  • Windows Server 2008 R2 Domain Controller DNS Reverse lookup zone needed?

    - by Joost Verdaasdonk
When I create a new Domain Controller with dcpromo then the wizard will also add a DNS Role to the server because the first domain controller must be the global catalog server for the forest. After the install when I look at the DNS then I see the forward lookup zone for the newly created domain. However no zone is created for the Reverse lookup zone. So my question is: Is this an advisable endresult or not? In other words is it a good idea to add my domain to the reverse lookup zone as well? Just curious to hear how other people use this zone in the domain controller. Thanks

  • Canadian English on Apple products

    - by thepurplepixel
Apple is an American company. As many of you probably know, Canadian English is different from American English, and closer to British English (e.g. colour instead of color). I use iWork and Microsoft Office for Mac (along with many other applications on OS X), and OS X, nor my iPhone, have an option to switch to Canadian English. Yes, you can select Canadian English as an input language in the language bar, but any program that uses the central OS X spell checking (from Mail to Office to iWork to Chrome) will check words against an American English dictionary. I know asking a question that involves an iPhone component is borderline off-topic, but I know on my iPhone I can select British English, but that turns my $ into £ and has a few other weird spelling quirks. Simple question: Is it possible to make OS X (and maybe the iPhone) use a Canadian English dictionary for its spell checking? Because British English just doesn't cut it anymore. Thanks!

  • How to prevent Spell checking code in MS Office?

    - by Aaron
We use MS Office. Outlook for emails, Word for some documentation and I use OneNote a lot for my own note taking. What bugs me is when I drop some code or use key words or even camel case into these apps the spell checking picks them up and I have red squiggles everywhere. Ignore is pretty much useless, so either I have to turn off Spell Check altogether start adding these to the custom dictionary. What would be good is if I can use the Set Language function to mark a whole block of text to just not be spell checked. Has anyone found a nice solution to this or do you know of a blank dictionary is best to use? I found using "Mohawk" kind of does that... might just use that for now. Maybe create a macro to switch between them.

  • Check availability of my websites

    - by DeChinees
Hi, How can I check the availability of websites from hosted by company? Ping the server and checking if the services for IIS or Apache/Tomcat is not enough. I want to see if the sites are responsive, if I can login. My idea is to build a script using cURL to access the websites and parse for certain words. However using cURL to access a secure site (HTTPS://www.fleetagent.be) doesnt seem to work. cURL might not be the best tool! Any ideas how to check the availability of this website? Thanks in advance, Darrell

  • Connect android to database

    - by danny
I am doing a school project where we need to create an android application which needs to connect to a database. the application needs to gain and store information for people's profiles on the database. But unfortunatly we are a little bit stuck at this point because there are numerous ways to link the application such as http request through apache or through the SOAP/REST protocol. But it's really hard to find good instructions or tutorials on the problem since I can't really find them. Maybe that's cause i'm probably using the wrong words on google. Unfortunately I have little relevant information. So if anyone can help me with finding relevant links to good online tutorials or howto's than those are very welcome.

  • Protocol Security With PPTP

    - by why
I find these words in pptp client source : Summary by Peter Mueller PPTP is known to be a faulty protocol. The designers of the protocol, Microsoft, recommend not to use it due to the inherent risks. Lots of people use PPTP anyway due to ease of use, but that doesn't mean it is any less hazardous. The maintainers of PPTP Client and Poptop recommend using OpenVPN (SSL based) or IPSec instead. (Posted on [1]2005-08-10 to the [2]mailing list) But as far as i know, there are many people use PPTP as a VPN, because there is no need to install client on windows, what do you think about pptp ?

  • How can I move the clear button in a UITextField?

    - by Jake
For some reason, when I add a UITextfield as a subview of the contentview of a tablecell, the clearbutton does not align with the text typed in the field, and appears a bit underneath it. Is there any way I can move the text of the clearbutton to stop this from happening? Thanks for any help,

  • iphone in-app purchases not working after rejection

    - by Joey
I recently had an issue with my in-app purchases, so had them rejected. I found that upon creating new ones and approving them, I am getting no products back from my SKProductsRequest. Do new in-app purchases require some delay to be updated on their servers or is there some common reason that they stop working when an app is rejected?

  • Security of BitLocker with no PIN from WinPE?

    - by Scott Bussinger
Say you have a computer with the system drive encrypted by BitLocker and you're not using a PIN so the computer will boot up unattended. What happens if an attacker boots the system up into the Windows Preinstallation Environment? Will they have access to the encrypted drive? Does it change if you have a TPM vs. using only a USB startup key? What I'm trying to determine is whether the TPM / USB startup key is usable without booting from the original operating system. In other words, if you're using a USB startup key and the machine is rebooted normally then the data would still be protected unless an attacker was able to log in. But what if the hacker just boots the server into a Windows Preinstallation Environment with the USB startup key plugged in? Would they then have access to the data? Or would that require the recovery key? Ideally the recovery key would be required when booted like this, but I haven't seen this documented anywhere.

  • I am trying to write an htaccess file performs authentication and redirects authenticated users to a

    - by racl101
This is what I have so far but I can't get the RewriteCond and RewriteRule properly. RewriteEngine On RewriteCond %{LA-U:REMOTE_USER} (\d{3})$ RewriteRule !^%1 http://subdomain.mydomain.com/%1 [R,L]. AuthName "My Domain Protected Area" AuthType Basic AuthUserFile /path/to/my/.htpasswd Require valid-user This is what I mean the ReWriteCond and RewriteRule to say: "If the REMOTE_USER has a username ending in 3 digits then capture the three digits that match and for whatever url they are trying to access if it does not start with the 3 digits captured then redirect them to the sub directory with the name equal to those captured three digits." In other words, if a user named 'johnny202' is authenticated then if he's requesting any directory other than http://subdomain.mydomain.com/202/ then he should be redirected to http://subdomain.mydomain.com/202/ The only thing I can think of that is wrong is the first instance of '%1'.

  • Capture documents in bitonal, or grayscale then downsample

    - by Jason R. Coombs
I'm about to embark on a document archival process. I'm going to spend a lot of good money to archive some paper (actually microfiche) to TIFF images. I have a choice of 300-dpi bitonal (2-bit, black/white) or 300-dpi grayscale (8-bit). Cost is the same for either format. Data volume (and thus image size) is not a factor. It seems to me that the grayscale, since scanned at the same resolution as the bitonal, would always contain more information and could always be downsampled to the equivalent bitonal image. Are there any downsides to selecting grayscale, and then later downsampling to bitonal if desired? In other words, is it possible that the scanning software will perform a more accurate (or more legible) representation than a grayscale image converted to bitonal?

  • How to loop a json array and update links

    - by azz0r
    Hello, On page load, I do one call to get the current status of all the favourite links (display the right message aka: click to subscribe, click to unsubscribe. So far I have the following code: $(InitFavorite); function InitFavorite(){ var jList = $(".favourite_link"); var ids_to_check = {};//new Array(); $.each(jList, function () { var id = this.id; var object = id.split("_"); if (!ids_to_check[object[1]]) { ids_to_check[object[1]] = []; } ids_to_check[object[1]].push(object[0]); }); //console.log(ids_to_check); $.ajax({ type: 'POST', url: '/user/subscription/favourite-listing', data: ids_to_check, dataType: 'json', beforeSend: function(x) { if(x && x.overrideMimeType) { x.overrideMimeType("application/j-son;charset=UTF-8"); } }, error: function() { alert(1); }, success: function(returned_values) { $.each(returned_values, function() { console.log($(this)); }) } }); } My returned data is: {"env":"development","loggedIn":true,"translate":{},"aaron":"{\"Playlist\":{\"10\":\"Stop Recieving Updates For This Playlist\"},\"Clip\":{\"26\":\"Recieve Updates For This Clip\",\"27\":\"Recieve Updates For This Clip\",\"28\":\"Recieve Updates For This Clip\",\"29\":\"Stop Recieving Updates For This Clip\",\"30\":\"Recieve Updates For This Clip\"}}"} I would like it to loop through the data and for example update the class <a href="/user/subscription/toggle/id/26/object/Clip" class="favourite_link" id="26_Clip"> <img src="/design/images/icon/subscribe.png"> Add Clip To Favourites</a> However eaching through returned_values equals this in firebug: ["{", """, "P", "l", "a", "y", "l", "i", "s", "t", """, ":", "{", """, "1", "0", """, ":", """, "S", "t", "o", "p", " ", "R", "e", "c", "i", "e", "v", "i", "n", "g", " ", "U", "p", "d", "a", "t", "e", "s", " ", "F", "o", "r", " ", "T", "h", "i", "s", " ", "P", "l", "a", "y", "l", "i", "s", "t", """, "}", ",", """, "C", "l", "i", "p", """, ":", "{", """, "2", "6", """, ":", """, "R", "e", "c", "i", "e", "v", "e", " ", "U", "p", "d", "a", "t", "e", "s", " ", "F", "o", "r", " ", "T", "h", "i", "s", " ", "C", "l", "i", "p", """, ",", """, "2", "7", """, ":", """, "R", "e", "c", "i", "e", "v", "e", " ", "U", "p", "d", "a", "t", "e", "s", " ", "F", "o", "r", " ", "T", "h", "i", "s", " ", "C", "l", "i", "p", """, ",", """, "2", "8", """, ":", """, "R", "e", "c", "i", "e", "v", "e", " ", "U", "p", "d", "a", "t", "e", "s", " ", "F", "o", "r", " ", "T", "h", "i", "s", " ", "C", "l", "i", "p", """, ",", """, "2", "9", """, ":", """, "S", "t", "o", "p", " ", "R", "e", "c", "i", "e", "v", "i", "n", "g", " ", "U", "p", "d", "a", "t", "e", "s", " ", "F", "o", "r", " ", "T", "h", "i", "s", " ", "C", "l", "i", "p", """, ",", """, "3", "0", """, ":", """, "R", "e", "c", "i", "e", "v", "e", " ", "U", "p", "d", "a", "t", "e", "s", " ", "F", "o", "r", " ", "T", "h", "i", "s", " ", "C", "l", "i", "p", """, "}", "}"] How would I successfully loop that json array?   • Why Outlook 2007 pasted images are larger than original?

    - by Jersey Dude
I have been using Outlook 2007 for over a year with no image problems. Around September 1st, images that I paste into messages are enlarged in the messages. This happends with WinSnap, the Vista Snipping Tool, or any jpeg pasted into the message I tried jpegs with 96dpi settings w/o sucess I tried different Outlook Format Picture ... and Size ... settings Problem happens with both RTF and HTML messages Attached images are ok Something mysteriously changed and I cannot figure it out. I googled this to death without any success (others have the problem but there is no solution). This is driving me nuts because I snap screenshots all day long ("a picture is worth a thousand words"). Thanks in advance.

  • Non-blocking MySQL updates with java?

    - by justkevin
For a multiplayer game I'm working on I'd like to record events to the mysql database without blocking the game update thread so that if the database is busy or a table is locked the game doesn't stop running while it waits for a write. What's the best way to accomplish this? I'm using c3p0 to manage the database connection pool. My best idea so far is to add query update strings to a synchronized list with an independent thread checking the list every 100ms and executing the queries it finds there.

  • Stick with MFC or go to .Net

    - by Jon Drnek
We have a largish MFC app that is our main product. This app is being actively developed and there are no plans to stop development. I am new to windows development, but I get the impression that MFC is dead and all the new growth and enhancements are in .net. Is this view accurate? What criteria should we consider when deciding if we should convert this application to .net. Here I'm asking why. I have asked the how question here

  • Configure IIS 6 to deny access to specific file based upon IP address

    - by victorferreira
Hello guys, We are using IIS 6 as our webserver. And we need to deny the access for one specif file, placed in only one specific URL, to everybody OUTSIDE the local network. In other words, if somebody is trying to access that filme/page from their own computer at home, using the internet, they must not succeed. But, if the same person try to do that at the same network of the web server, its ok. I am not sure about that, but Apache uses ORDER DENY,ALLOW. You specify the URL, allow or deny to all or to a range of IP. Any suggestions? Thanks!

  • Remove robot as an editor of a blip

    - by Lee
I have a Google Wave robot which makes changes to some blip content depending on what a user inputs. When this edit is made, the robot is listed in the blip as one of the people who have edited it (so shows its Avatar and robot name). I was wondering if anyone knew if it was possible (and if so how), to stop the robot being listed as an editor (either by it not happening in the first place, or removing it afterwards).
