• Hardening Word and Reader against exploits

  I have recently heard a lot about exploits for PDF and DOC files on Windows, which when opened in Reader or Word would infect the computer. I'm assuming most of those exploits rely on some kind of active content, I've heard that Reader allows JavaScript for example. I already have antivirus, but I've heard they often don't catch those types of exploits, so I want to try a little proactive defense. Is there a way to harden Reader and Word by disabling plugins or options that are often used by exploits?

• How do I find out from which fonts windows is pulling substitute glyphs?

  When a given font does not provide a glyph for a unicode character, windows pulls glyphs from a font which does provide it (see screenshot showing charmap and text editor displaying glyphs missing from calluna; the missing glyphs are (not) shown in the pdf visible in the same document. Fontforge also reveals that the glyphs are indeed not in that font). How can I work out from which font windows is pulling the substitute glyph? (I'm using windows 7)

• Can someone access my locally ran website even if I haven't specified any port forwarding?

  I am using Xampp so I can test my web application directly on my own computer. I am concerned that someone can access my Xampp site since I am still connected to the internet. However, I have NOT explicitly enabled any port forwarding with respect to my Xampp site in my router firewall settings. Furthermore, I am using a dynamic ip address. Given the factors already stated, can someone from outside my local network still access my locally ran website?

• Need to open port in a router for two internal PC's

  I have two PC's behind a comon internet router and one service running in another network that needs to connect with both PC's through internet using a specific port. To avoid dynamic IP issues I have configured NO-IP accounts in both computers and opened the port in their respective Windows Firewalls. My problem is that when I open the port in the router it only allows me to assign it to one of the computers, but not to both of them. Is there any solution to this?

  I want to extend my volume. However the unallocated space lies ahead of the volume. Is it possible to extend this volume without converting it to a dynamic volume? I can't include images yet, so here you go: http://www.abload.de/img/unbenannttboxq.png I tried to use diskpart with the extend command but it doesn't work. Makes sense because the instructions says that the unallocated space has to be behind the volume.

• Caching issue with Centos forwarding DNS server

  I installed a Forwarding DNS server on Centos 5.10 and it is resolving addresses e.g google.com. When I stopped named (service named stop) and tried to dig (dig @localhost A google.com) there was a failure to resolve the address. I checked and see the caching daemon nscd is running. Does this mean the server is not caching at all?   i really need your advice folks since i'm experiencing some troubles with nginx & apache2 subdomains configs first of all, there's a site (say, site.com) and two subdomains (links.site.com and shop.site.com) whose files are physically located at the same level of FS hierarchy as the site.com itself my hoster has configured both apache and nginx by my request, but it still doesn't work as it used to both of subdomains point to the main page of site.com for some unknown and implicit (for me) reason :( my assumption is that's happen because site.com record is placed first in both configs?!.. please help me solve this out!
