• Best solution for language documentation.

  I'm developing a new object oriented scripting language and the project itself is quite ready for audience now, so i'm starting to think about a serious (not as "drafty" as it is right now) way of document its grammar, functions from standard library and standard library classes. I've looked a bit around and almost every language hash its own web application for the documentation, Python uses Sphinx for instance. Which is the best PHP (don't have the time/will to install mod_who_knows_what on my server) application to accomplish this? I've used mediawiki a bit but i found its tag system a little bit hard to use in this context. Thanks for your answers.

• Newbie Question: Read and Process a List of Text Files

  I'm completely new to .NET and am trying as a first step to write a text processing program. The task is simple: I have a list of 10,000 text files stored in one folder, and I'm trying to read each one, store it as a string variable, then run it through a series of functions, then save the final output to another folder. So far I can only manage to manually input the file path like this (in VB.NET): Dim tRead As System.IO.StreamReader Public Function ReadFile() As String Dim EntireFile As String tRead = File.OpenText("c:\textexample\00001.txt") EntireFile = tRead.ReadToEnd Return EntireFile End Function Public Function Step1() ..... For example, I can use gotoandplay and gotoandstop functionality. I tried something like: var m:MovieClip = new movieFire() as MovieClip; but it turns out when I tried to get totalFrames, m.totalFrames, it gives me zero, and gotoand* functions don't work either. How can I correctly control the swf file embedded in actionsript 3.0 (No Flex component)?

• Can I make valgrind ignore glibc libraries?

  Is it possible to tell valgrind to ignore some set of libraries? Specifically glibc libraries.. Actual Problem: I have some code that runs fine in normal execution. No leaks etc. When I try to run it through valgrind, I get core dumps and program restarts/stops. Core usually points to glibc functions (usually fseek, mutex etc). I understand that there might be some issue with incompatible glibc / valgrind version. I tried various valgrind releases and glibc versions but no luck. Any suggestions?

• JSObject-like stuff in ActionScript 3?

  I would like to ask if there is a liveconnect equivalent for ActionScript 3. I understand that there is the ExternalInterface class inside AS3 but it only supports calling a method by name. The really cool thing about Java and LiveConnect is that you can do something like function jsFunc(name) = { this.name = name; this.talk = function(){ alert('hello world my name is ' + this.name); } } javaapplet.function(new jsFunc("bob")); The above approaches pseudo code since I never tested it but I've seen it in action. In AS3, while I am able to pass in an instance of JavaScript "object" into AS, it is often converted into an ActionScript Object instance which does away with all the functions as far as I'm aware. I saw an implementation of JSInterface but I don't think it does specifically that. Is there any way to make OO like javascript work with ActionScript 3?

  I would like to pass a vector of strings from C++ to matlab. I have tried using the functions available such as mxCreateCharMatrixFromStrings but it doesn't give me the correct behavior.   I am new to C# and am trying to write a program that navigates the local file system using a config file containing relevant filepaths. My question is this: What are the best practices to use when performing file I/O (this will be from the desktop app to a server and back) and file system navigation in C#? I know how to google, and I have found several solutions, but I would like to know which of the various functions is most robust and flexible. • c++ Using const in a copy constructor?

  I have never written copy constructor, so in order to avoid pain i wanted to know if what i have coded is legit. It compiles but i am not sure that it works as a copy constructor should. Also do i have to use const in the copy constructor or i can simply drop it. • Are there .NET Framework methods to parse an email (MIME)?

  Is there a class or set of functions built into the .NET Framework (3.5+) to parse raw emails (MIME documents)? I am not looking for anything fancy or a separate library, it needs to be built-in. I'm going to be using this in some unit tests and need only grab the main headers of interest (To, From, Subject) along with the body (which in this case will always be text and therefore no MIME trees or boundaries). I've written several MIME parsers in the past and if there isn't anything readily available, I'll just put together something from regular expressions. It would be great to be able to do something like: MailMessage msg = MailMessage.Parse(text); Thoughts?

It only needs to be called once. arrayoftextboxes.each(function(i){foo(arrayoftextboxes[i]);}); I tried arrayoftextboxes.load(function(){foo(this)}); and arrayoftextboxes.bind(function(){foo(this)}); but the functions dont seem to be called.

• Creating a Mac OS application that interacts with all text fields

  What would be the first step to creating an application for Mac OS X that would take user interaction from any text field in the system? A couple examples of apps that do this are TextExpander and Typinator. What I want to do would be using similar functions to access Text fields throughout the computer during user input to give other additional options, I'm just not sure where to even start in Xcode and with what type of project to use. • Why not speed up testing by using function dependency graph?

  It seems logical to me that if you have a dependency graph of your source code (tree showing call stack of all functions in your code base) you should be able to save a tremendous amount of time doing functional and integration tests after each release. Essentially you will be able to tell the testers exactly what functionality to test as the rest of the features remain unchanged from a source code point of view. If for instance you change a spelling mistake in once piece of the code, there is no reason to run through your whole test script again "just in case" you introduced a critical bug. My question, why are dependency trees not used in software engineering and if you use them, how do you maintain them? What tools are available that generate these trees for C# .NET, C++ and C source code?

  I'm currently porting a heap of code that has previously only been compiled with Visual Studio 2008. If it was something besides the return type that differentiated these function specializations, I could obviously just use overloads, but that's not an option. How do I solve this without having to change all the places the convert functions are called?

  Using utimes, futimes, futimens, etc., it is possible to set the access and modification timestamps on a file. Is there a function to set change timestamps? (I understand the cyclic nature of wanting to change the change timestamp, but think archiving software - it would be nice to restore a file exactly as it was.) Are there any functions at all for creation timestamps? (I realize that ext2 does not support this, but I was wondering if Linux did, for those filesystems that do support it.) If it's not possible, what is the reasoning behind it not being so?

But it sucks that WordPress does not enable pages with all the little extras you get with posts. For example, while the post editor gives you convenient access to Tags, Categories, and a Post excerpt field, pages get left out in the cold. I'm willing to take suggestions for this, if I'm doing it the completely wrong way, or if there's a better way. The idea is that the API will take some sort of request object, use it to make a request in a thread via http, and when the response has been made, somehow signal back to the caller if the request was a success or an error. The request/error functions have to be executed on the main thread.

  Does anybody know a good web framework that includes an ORM mapper and allows straight forward implementation of web services? I'm looking for a framework written in PHP or C++. I'm looking for the following features (not all of them required, some will do nicely) data definition in one place used by database and web service WSDL generation XML output/JSON output boilerplate code generation So what I would like is a framework that let's me specify the objects, the web service functions on those objects and then generate everything that is required leaving me to fill the business logic (connecting the database to the web service). Anything like that out there? Background information for why I need this: I'm looking into creating a web project: the client is a rich web application that fetches all its data using AJAX. It will be completely custom made using only a low level javascript library. The server back end is supposed to serve static content and javascript (basically the rich web application) and to provide a RESTful web service API (which I would like to implement using aforementioned framework).
