• Why can't I get to a shared folder from Windows

  I want to access a folder on my new Ubuntu 12.10 box from any machine on my network without the need to provide credentials. My machine name is Ubuntu1 I have a 2TB disk that formatted NTFS that has media on it The mount point is mount1 I have numerous folders on the disk and I want to share each of them individually I have enabled folder1 and folder2 for sharing I have enabled shared access, Allow others to create and delete files in this folder and guest access is allowed. The folder icon now has arrows so I assume all is good. From windows I can see under network Ubuntu1folder1 Ubuntu1folder2 When I click to open the folder from windows I get the error "You cannot access \Ubuntu1\folder1 You do not have permission to access \Ubuntu1\folder1 I have them both on the same workgroup. Your assistance would be appreciated

• 12.04 in Virtualbox is keep losing my wireless connection

  I've Windows 7 as the Host OS, Ubuntu 12.04 as the guest and a Netgear WG111v2 as the USB Wireless device. Its connected to an open Wi-Fi network at work to bypass my works crazy strict filtering, When on the domain. I currently have network eth0 turned off in the virtualbox settings so the only network source would be through the USB device at wlan1. Its odd but the wireless seems extremely temperamental, I constantly have to ifconfig wlan down then ifconfig wlan1 up to get it back online. I know this might be super vague just curious if anyone has tried something like this or run into anything like it to point me in a direction I might not be seeing.

I can either: Keep displaying full-content for Search Engines. Can this be considered cloaking? Keep the real content in the background, and a pop-up that makes it not-viewable (like quora does). Can this make pages rank lower?

• Higher screen resolution in VirtualBox?

  I've just installed Ubuntu 10.04 into VirtualBox on Windows 7. Unfortunately the only options showing for screen resolution are 640x480 and 800x600 and the monitor is showing as 'Unknown'. How would I go about upping the resolution to 1280x1024 (I'm on a 1600x1200 monitor)? Update I tried mounting the VirtualBox 'Guest Additions' ISO (from the VBox 'Devices' menu) and doing sudo sh ./VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run from the mounted drive, which gave 2 new listed resolutions after a reboot (1024x768 and the 16:9 version of that resolution). These worked when I selected them but disappeared when I switched back to another resolution. I tried rebooting and running VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run again but onlu the 2 low res options listed this time. I think I'm going to reinstall... Seems to be a VBox problem rather than an Ubuntu problem as after reinstalling 10.4 overwriting the original virtual partition, sudo sh ./VBoxLinuxAdditions-x86.run now has no affect at all.

• Can't login after forced shutdown

  I am on ubuntu 12.04 and forced a shutdown (hardware switch). Now I can't login anymore. In particular, after entering my password I get sent back to the login screen. The error message is to fast for me to read. I am, however, able to login into the Guest account through the usual login screen, and able to login into my own account on tty1 after pressing Ctrl+Alt+F1. What should I try to get back into my own account via the login screen and get back to a working desktop? Update: I can login with gdm, but not with the (default) lightdm. So the forced shutdown seems to have broken lightdm. The question now is, how do I fix a broken lightdm?

Once the profile is logged out and back in the results would reset to their original settings; displaying all the results without filtering. How can I make the results filtering more permanent?   Register by March 31st and save $200.  On April 1st we increase the price.  On July 1st we increase it again.  We have regular price bumps all the way through to the Summit.  You can save yourself $200 if you register by Thursday. In two years of marketing for PASS and a year of finance I’ve learned a fair bit about our pricing, why we do this and how you react to it.  Let me help you save some money! Price bumps drive registrations.  We see big spikes in the two weeks prior to a price increase.  Having a deadline with a cost attached is a great motivator to get people to take action. Registering early helps you and it helps PASS.  You get the exact same Summit at a cheaper rate.  PASS gets smoother cash flow and a better idea of how many people to expect.  We also get people that are already registered that will tell their friends about the conference. This tiered pricing lets us serve those that are very price conscious.  They can register early and take advantage of these discounts.  I know there are people that pay for this conference out of their own pockets.  This is a great way for those people to reduce the cost of the conference.  (And remember for next year that our cheapest pricing starts right after the Summit and usually goes up around the first of the year.) • messed up PATH and can't login

  I was screwing around and trying to add some environment variables to my path. I must have made a type or something because once I logged out, I could not lob back in. I know I'm not on caps lock or anything and in fact if I type the wrong password I am informed of this. However, when I type the correct password the desktop starts to load and then loops back to the login prompt. There also no other users on the machine for me to log in as other than guest which does not have the right permissions for me to fix things. Any ideas on where to go from here?

Same thing when I use the "Broadcast Address" or "Default Route/Primary DNS". When I use the "subnet mask", ssh just hangs. However, when I use the "secondary DNS" I recieve a "Connection refused" message. :^( Someone please help me figure out how to make this work.

• Please Help to bring back power to my machine

  I Have a samsung N150plus netbook That I have been using for a while now. I left it on and plugged to a wall outlet and went to bed. I dual boot ubuntu and win7. I tried to update the win7 to sp1 and I dozed off. I woke up and saw the machine has been booted to ubuntu and logged in as guest, which translate to mean one of my room mates have tried to use the machine and they all have denied using my machine. I tried to reboot to windows and then it appears to have no cpu, hard disk and cpu fan activity. only one led seems to come on when i plug it in. its only the led that indicate the machine is powered on powers steadily. I really cant afford to buy a new machine now and I need the machine to complete my last project in school for my last year. Help Please
