  • Audio Midi Setup needs to be quit before able to be opened again in OS X Mountain Lion

    Since Mac OS X Lion (I'm using Mac OS 10.8.2 now) I have the exact same issue with audio midi setup software from Apple. It's not really a not working thing but it still is annoying: Every time I open audio midi setup to change something (e.g. change to my Apple TV for audio playback) and close the window afterwards the application doesn't quit – what would be OK if a click on the Icon (or the starting of the application over Spotlight) would cause the application to open a new window of audio midi setup, but it doesn't. So what I have to do to get the window back is first quitting the application manually and restarting it again. That's quite painful since I sometimes opened the application days ago and forgot that it's still opened... Does anyone have the same issue? Can someone explain this behavior to me? And most important: Does anyone know a workaround?

My asterisk .call file looks like this: Channel: SIP/flowroute/1234567890 Context: test Extension: 1234567890 Priority: 1 Here's my extensions.conf: [test] exten => _1NXXXXXXXXX,1,Set(CALLERID(num)=8005552222) exten => _1NXXXXXXXXX,n,Dial(SIP/${EXTEN}@flowroute) exten => _1NXXXXXXXXX,n,Playback(hello-world) When I receive the call, the caller id number is 1-206-445-6979, even though the CDR log has both src and clid set to 8005552222. I'm using flowroute as my carrier. Is there something wrong on their side?

    I have a few thousand FLAC files which I would like to transcode to OGG Vorbis, but I can't find any suitable tools for the job. To name a few I have tried so far and why they are unsuitable: oggenc is single-threaded and would require me to automate it myself, mencoder requires the input to also contain video, and abcde assumes the input is a CD. The ideal tool should be multi-threaded, and support inputing multiple files located in different directories simultaneously. CLI or GUI makes no matter. Does such a tool exist?

  • Audio not working in 12.10

    I did a clean install of 12.10, when I open Sound Settings in gnome the only device in the list is "Dummy Output", and sound is not working. Sound worked fine out of the box in 12.04 I ran alsamixer, it says my card is "HDA Intel", and chip is "Realtek ALC880". The alsamixer playback output was set to mute at first, unmuting did not fix. I checked out the info at http://www.unixmen.com/2012003-howto-resolve-nosound-problem-on-ubuntu/ as suggested on a similar question, I've done everything there except installing the ubuntu audio dev team driver. Should I try install this? Edit: I've been reading the sound troubleshooting guide at https://help.ubuntu.com/community/SoundTroubleshooting It looks like Ubuntu is finding my audio device correctly. mike@wucade:~$ lspci -v | grep -A7 -i "audio" 00:1b.0 Audio device: Intel Corporation 82801FB/FBM/FR/FW/FRW (ICH6 Family) High Definition Audio Controller (rev 03) Subsystem: Albatron Corp.   • Improving sound quality with remote ESD server

    Hi, I'm investigating low-budget ways to get audio from my PC (Ubuntu) to HiFi without wires. I'm currently testing a setup where Asus WL-500gP wireless router runs ESD daemon and has attached USB soundcard which is then plugged into HiFi. I'm testing playback on PC with mpg123-esd and Spotify under Wine. The sound is there, latency is unexpectedly low, but I also hear occassional clicks and some distortion from time to time. I suppose that's because of the low latency and wireless streaming of uncompressed audio--any packet drops, CPU temporarily being busy etc. will cause clicks in sound output. Is there a way around this problem, increasing latency / buffer size somehow perhaps? Streaming using shoutcast protocol seems to be a way out but I have feeling that would be a complex and brittle setup.
