  • Connection: Keep-Alive and PHP sessions not working

    We have a VB application that needs to run an specific flow on a PHP page. This application was correctly catching the PHPSESSID cookie and using it for all subsequent requests. However, PHP wasn't able to restore any changes made on $_SESSION variable. The variable was changed, saved, and on the next request it was restored as an empty array. We found out that changing the Connection header from "Keep-Alive" to "Close" fixed the issue. I couldn't find anything on the web saying that PHP sessions shouldn't be restored under Keep-Alive connections. Does anyone know why this was happening? PS: We didn't find anything weird or different on Apache, ModSecurity or PHP configuration settings.

    I got a questions asked from one of my delegates the other day, "how did you get to where you are in programming?" I'm now at a java application realm - and I'm just about OK at it. the path that brought me there: BASIC VB6 PHP javascript actionscript java/objective-C I still live in the web development but I now prefer java - I see this as a good flow but I was wondering how you guys got to where you are and the best path to take? Edit: reword I guess I've asked the question wrong - I was wondering how to progress to a top level application from starting off in development. Where good paradyms connect languages. I won't have considered C++ as my first language see.

    I recently went through a period of frustration, "churning" as I tried to set up my environment to work effectively on a task. By the time I broke through and started to make actual progress, I felt tired and kind of angry. (I'll admit: in this case, it took me several days of banging my head and ultimately starting from scratch to finally get around the problems.) This experience made me wonder: When a roadblock happens to other programmers, how long do they churn before finally becoming productive and beginning what feels like actual work?

  • What's the best way to debug AJAX to PHP calls?

    I'm having a miserable time debugging one small function on my new project. Essentially I'm having a user log out via an AJAX call to my log out script on my server called "userfFunctions.php" I'm using AJAX so that I don't have the headache of writing more regex to match my mod_rewrites. Anyway, every so often, it seems as though my Post data just flat out dies and since the PHP is running behind the scenes, I feel like I have no way of finding out where the data flow is being disrupted. BTW This function works 19 hrs of the day. For editing an admin has to log in with forms authentication. Can I hold the admin somewhere in the web.config with membership provider ? Or do I need to install SQL Server somewhere for that task ?   • CakePHP: Accessing the controller or model from a view helper

    I have a view helper that manages generating thumbnails for images. The images are stored using a unique ID and then linked to a file resource in the database. I am trying to find out if it is possible for the view helper that generates these images to access the model or controller directly, as it is not possible to load the image data at any other point in the controller work flow. I know this is a bit of a hack really, but it is easier than trying to rebuild the entire data management stack above the view.

    I have created tabbar based project in MT and I have following flow in my storyboard; Tabbarcontroller -> 1) MainViewController -> CustomerViewController; 2) SettingViewController The problem I am having is that when I use PrepareForSegue function in CustomerViewController and pointing it to MainViewController. Tab Bar UI is missing from MainViewController. I know that if I point to TabBarController it is going to be fine. But I need to pass some data exactly to MainViewController.     The constant 0 is used as the null pointer in C and C++. But as in http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2389251/pointer-to-a-specific-fixed-address there seems to be some possible use of assigning fixed addresses. Is there ever any conceivable need, in any system, for whatever low level task, for accessing the address 0? If there is, how is that solved with 0 being the null pointer and all? If not, what makes it certain that there is not such a need?

Now I am shifting to web programming so I just stuck in understanding the fundamentals of web programming, after googling I came to StackOverflow to learn from all of you great guys. My confusion is about how messages flow between systems in distributed enviornment ? I mean suppose I want to send a message "Hello" to a system connected to LAN or Internet, then what will be the steps taken to send the message. Second thing is suppose my system is "A" and I wana send message to system "B" which is connected via a wire, so how the message flows on wire and how system "B" reads it from the wire ?     How can I detect if a file is binary or a plain text? Basically my .NET app is processing batch files and extracting data however I don't want to process binary files. As a solution I'm thinking about analysing first X bytes of the file and if there are more unprintable characters than printable characters it should be binary. Is this the right way to do it?     Question: In Flash I have the below function. Now the problem is SaveFurniture, SavePolygons and SaveComments all save to the same XML file. Now SaveFurniture sends JSON encoded data to a ashx handler, which saves it in the xml on the server. The problem is, because flash sends the data asynchronous, the polygons get sent to the polygonsave ashx handler, but before saving of the furniture has completed, thus access error, write process already in progress... // cSaveData.SaveData(); public static function SaveData():void { trace("cSaveData.SaveData"); //NotifyASPXofNewScale(cGlobals.nPlanScale); SaveFurniture(); SavePolygons(); SaveComments(); } What's the best way to process this list, ONE AFTER ANOTHER ? Making a callback in all of them does make the program flow structure very confusing...

    I have two servers - one Django, the other likely to be written in Python - and one is putting 'tasks' into a database and another is processing these tasks. They share a database, but I want the processor to react quickly to new tasks rather than polling periodically. Are there any straightforward ways for two Python servers to talk to one another, or does the task processor have to have web-hooks or something? It feels there ought to be a blessed way to do this...
