• IIS Smooth Streaming Manifest Bad Request Error

  Hi, I installed IIS Media Services 3.0, and the Big Buck Bunny sample, but when I try to get the manifest file (http://localhost/Big_Buck_Bunny/Big Buck Bunny.ism/Manifest), I get 400.0 Bad Request error from the SmoothHandler. So the default.html appears in the browser, but the SL player shows error while trying to read the manifest. Anyone knows what can be the problem?

  I have TMG Forefront with Proxy installed and configured. However, whenever I make internal HTTP requested to servers on the internal network with a fully qualified dns name, the proxy denies the connection. • Keyboard doesn't work after upgrade to Debian Wheezy

  After upgrade from lenny to wheezy keyboard and mouse don't work in X (keyboard available before it starts). • Rosetta Stone Network V3 doesn't recognize built-in microphone in OSX Lion

  I am using Rosetta Stone Network V3 on an early 2011 MacBook Pro running OSX Lion 10.7.3. When I log in, select a language and level, and then a lesson, I am prompted to select a microphone. The built in microphone doesn't show up, yet I've used it multiple times for other applications. I heard from another user that it doesn't work if headphones with a built-in microphone are used. I have not yet tried a USB microphone. Is there some free work around to this? I would prefer to not have to buy a USB microphone, but if that is the only solution, then I'll live. Edit: I noticed that Rosetta Stone tells me that if I don't have a microphone I should disable speech to move on, but that option is grayed out for me.

  We are sending routes to Mappoint 2013 from our application using an access database. It seems to happen with Mappoint 2010 and 2011 also. It doesn't happen on all of our clients either and it happens randomly on those who it does happen.   I tried setting up ZF2 on the GoDaddy shared servers, though it doesn't work. I tried to download it directly, and using the git composer (which I managed to install successfully on the server). • Mac OS X Server Open Directory does not push Software Update settings to clients

  I have an Xserve G5 running Mac OS X Server 10.5.8 configured as an Open Directory master. I have also enabled and configured Software Update service on the machine. The SUS is configured to serve Tiger, Leopard and Snow Leopard clients (see http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10297359#10297359) The clients bound to the OD are a variety of Mac's running OS X 10.4, 10.5 or 10.6. In Workgroup Manager, I have created 3 machine groups for each client OS. Each group is configured with a custom SUS URL, and the managed client computers are members accordingly (see http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=10493154#10493154) My problem is that the server pushes the SUS settings to some of the client machines, but not all. When I first configured all this stuff on the server (a few weeks ago) I was closely monitoring a few of the client machines to confirm that they received the custom settings. I noticed that some of the clients (10.4/5/6 alike) seemed to get the settings immediately, others didn't show the new settings until after a reboot. As I said, results are mixed across OS's, but some clients will not "sync" at all. My immediate thought was to unbind/rebind the problematic machines. I did this on several client computers with no success. For example, today I was working on one of the Tiger clients. I noticed it was not pointed at my local SUS, so I checked the OD binding; it was fine. Just to be sure I unbound the machine. Next, I checked WM and confirmed the computer record was gone. I noticed the machine group still had a residual (broken?) member from the unbound client; I manually removed this. Finally, I re-bound the client to OD and re-added the machine to it's correct group in WM. Unfortunately, the client still pings apple's SUS for updates. Just to play it safe I rebooted the client, but to no avail, it will not see my local SUS. To confirm that there is nothing wrong with the server, or the client's connection to it, forcefully pointed the machine at my SUS: sudo defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate CatalogURL "$LOCAL_SUS_URL" and the machine successfully updated off my local server. Great, successful updates, but problem not solved. I've done exhaustive reading on discussions.apple.com (not saying I read everything, I'm just saying I have read a lot) without a good answer. The discouraging thing is that a lot of OD problems I've read about only result in the sysadmin completely reinstalling the server, or OD, or some other similarly heavy-handed operation. At this point, I am not willing to go that route. I still have hope that I can find the reason for this flaky behavior. If anyone can point me in a helpful direction it would be much appreciated. EDIT: Indeed, some files are being pushed to the client: # from client machine: $ sudo find /Library -type f -name com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist /Library/Managed Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist /Library/Managed Preferences/username/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist A few weeks ago, prior to my (previously mentioned) modifications, the SUS was still running "stock". Which meant it could not serve SL (10.6) machines. At that time, the Software Update settings were setup in WM under User Groups. This didn't make any sense because some users work on multiple machines with different OS's. Before creating Machine Groups in WM, I deleted all the SU settings from the User Group Preferences. This just makes the whole thing more confusing, because when I see a file here: /Library/Managed Preferences/username/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist I assume it's still remaining from the "old" settings, because I wouldn't think a Machine Setting belongs there. • Why unchecked jQuery UI radio button's label appears "checked" after refresh in FF and IE?

  I've got 2 radio buttons with labels: button A is checked by default in HTML (checked="checked"). They're then processed with jQuery UI Radio Button. When I check button B and refresh the page, B's label is displayed as checked (it has CSS ui-state-active class). And A's label is displayed as unchecked, even though it's A button that is actually checked. It happens in Firefox (3) and IE (8). • Im getting the "Console Window Host has stopped working" popup in a few places.

  Im running Windows 7 on a 17 inch Macbook Pro, late 2011. Last Saturday I opened my laptop(It was either asleep or shutdown before hand) and suddenly had a whole bunch of problem. First off I got a few of pop-errors, my macbook was out of battery. I also had problems with my trackpad(no scrolling or right-click), which I fixed by reinstalling bootcamp. Now a days when ever I run cmd I get the popup Console Window Host has stopped working If I chose the Close the program I get another popup The application was unable to start correctly (0xc0000142) Click OK to close the application. This doesnt happen just with cmd if un/install a program I get similar popups(first one). And in some other case like in visual studio when i was working on class work.

• Debian Squeeze Upgrade Breaks Apache SSL

  I upgraded my Debian from Lenny to Squeeze. BIG MISTAKE. Now I get: [Tue Feb 08 16:34:57 2011] [error] Server should be SSL-aware but has no certificate configured [Hint: SSLCertificateFile] ((null):0) littered throughout /var/log/apache2/error.log. How to fix? Looking through a mess of forums it is easy to see that Apache changed the way it reads configurations around 2.2.13. Great. But not great for me or the millions of other web administrators who now have web servers that simply won't start, and an error message that says NOTHING about the problem or how to fix. Anybody else actually solved this issue? I had perfectly working virtual servers with SSL before (for years actually).

• MySQL is killing the server IO.

  I manage a fairly large/busy vBulletin forums (~2-3k requests per second, running on gigenet cloud), the database is ~ 10 GB (~9 milion posts, ~60 queries per second), lately MySQL have been grinding the disk like there's no tomorrow according to iotop and slowing the site. The last idea I can think of is using replication, but I'm not sure how much that would help and worried about database sync. I'm out of ideas, any tips on how to improve the situation would be highly appreciated. Specs : Debian Lenny 64bit ~12Ghz (6 cores) CPU, 7520gb RAM, 160gb disk. • Can I copy the CollapsiblePanelExtender in jQuery as one method?

  I am beginning the process of moving away from the AjaxControlToolkit and toward jQuery. What I want to do is have one function that duplicates the functionality of the CollapsiblePanelExtender. I thought by using the namespaces array I could handle that issue but its not working. • Hybrid Shutdown in Windows 8

  Referring to this article published September 8, 2011, it gives instructions on how to to do a full (non-hybrid) shutdown in Windows 8 from the command line. We have an option in the UI to revert back to the Windows 7 shutdown/cold boot behavior, or since that’s likely a fairly infrequent thing, you can use the new /full switch on shutdown.exe. From a cmd prompt, run: shutdown /s /full / t 0 to invoke an immediate full shutdown. shutdown /s /full /t 0 I tried this in W8 Enterprise RTM trial, but did not work, so I did a shutdown /? and noticed they have changed the command for a Full shutdown It appears the /s switch now does the full shutdown as explained in the MS article, and the /hybrid switch does the hybrid shutdown for fast startup. Can anyone confirm this change in other RTM versions of Windows 8? Any Microsoft docs on this change are welcome.

  What does 'this' keyword refer to when used in gloabl object? But it works when called from timer scope!! • built in "Offer Remote Assistance" not working because of permissions

  I'm trying to enable permissions for a user on a Windows7 machine to use the built in feature called "Offer Remote Assistance" or "Windows Remote Assistance". This feature works fine if the user is added to the "domain admins" security group, but for security reasons, I cannot leave him in that group. This is within a SBS2003 Domain. I have added the user and also a group that he is apart of to the Small Business Server Remote Assistance Policy, after following some documentation I was able to find, but this has not worked. • Slapd service won't start, unable to open pid file

  I'm trying to set up a test LDAP-server for some developers but I'm running into some trouble. service slapd start errors so I run /usr/sbin/slapd -d 1 and this gives me the following error at the end: unable to open pid file "/var/run/ldap/slapd.pid": 13 (Permission denied) slapd destroy: freeing system resources. slapd stopped. The rights for /var/run/ldap are as follows: root@pec:/var/run/ldap# ls -ld drwxr-xr-x 2 openldap openldap 60 2012-07-04 20:45 So I don't get why there is still a permission denied. • Tools to make CSS sprites?

  Are there any good tools to make css sprites? IDEALLY I'd want to give it a directory of images and an existing .css file that refers to those images and have it create a big image optimized with all the little images AND change my .css file to refer to those images. At the least I'd want it to take a directory of images and generate a big sprite and the .css necessary to use each as a background. Are there any good photoshop plugins or fully blown apps to do this?

• layout analysis of text based pdf without ocr

  Before recognizing a pdf, OCR software do document layout analysis to determine which parts are texts, tables or images, as shown in the picture below. ![papercrop]http://cache.gawkerassets.com/assets/images/17/2011/07/papercrop.jpg I want to use some parts of the text while leaving out the others. So having a software marking those zones comes in handy. Papercrop does a decent job, but it has a bug of now showing some of the text in the pdf file. And OCR software can also do layout analysis, marking out "zones" which I can add or delete. But you have to OCR to do that. Since my pdfs are already text based, I don't want to waste so much time OCRing. So my question is, is there any software that automatically mark out those zones and let me manually manipulate them, without having to OCR? Thanks! Waiting for your help.
