• C++ code visualization

  A sort of follow up/related question to this. I'm trying to get a grip on a large code base that has hundreds and hundreds of classes and a large inheritance hierarchy. I want to be able to see the "main veins" of the inheritance hierarchy at a glance - not all the "peripheral" classes that only do some very specific / specialized thing. Visual Studio's "View Class Diagram" makes something that looks like a train and its sprawled horizontally across the screen and isn't very organized. You can't grok it easily. I've just tried doxygen and graphviz but the results are .. somewhat similar to Visual Studio. I'm getting sweet looking call graphs but again too much detail for what I'm trying to get. I need a quick way to generate the inheritance hierarchy, in some kind of collapsible view.

• Simple Communication between 2 instances of application

  I have a WPF application that can take a few optional command line arguments. This application is also a single instance application (using a mutex to close any instances if one is already open). What I want for it to do though, is if something tries to open the application with some cmd line args, that the application will do what it's suppose to do with those (in my application it opens different dialogs based on the cmd line). What is the easiest way to achieve this? • No mapping for LONGVARCHAR in Hibernate 3.2

  I am running Hibernate 3.2.0 with MySQL 5.1. After updating the group_concat_max_len in MySQL (because of a group_concat query that was exceeding the default value), I got the following exception when executing a SQLQuery with a group_concat clause: "No Dialect mapping for JDBC type: -1" -1 is the java.sql.Types value for LONGVARCHAR. Evidently, increasing the group_concat_max_len value causes calls to group_concat to return a LONGVARCHAR value. This appears to be an instance of this bug: http://opensource.atlassian.com/projects/hibernate/browse/HHH-3892 I guess there is a fix for this issue in Hibernate 3.5, but that is still a development version, so I am hesitant to put it into production, and don't know if it would cause issues for other parts of my code base. I could also just use JDBC queries, but then I have to replace every instance of a SQLQuery with a group_concat clause. Any other suggestions?

  Paperclip is generating wrong URLs in Heroku. I have an Audio model which has a mp3 field as follows: class Audio < ActiveRecord::Base has_attached_file :mp3, :storage => :s3, :s3_credentials => S3_CREDENTIALS, :bucket => S3_CREDENTIALS[:bucket], :path => ":rails_root/public/system/:attachment/:id/:style/:filename", :url => "/system/:attachment/:id/:style/:filename" I am calling audio.mp3.url from a controller, and it returns http://s3.amazonaws.com/MyApp/audios/mp3s//original/96a9ae89302fdf8462ee05eb829f2e17578b144e20120908-2-11f61zr.mp3?1347135050 instead of http://s3.amazonaws.com/MyApp/audios/mp3s/000/000/004/original/96a9ae89302fdf8462ee05eb829f2e17578b144e20120908-2-11f61zr.mp3?1347135050 (which works) Why is it missing the '000/000/004' part of the route? The same model is generating the right URL when used in a view. Any help? I am using paperclip 3.2.0 and Rails 3.1.8. Any help?

I guess this is a general design patterns question, but I'll base my example on a game engine or something that renders objects to the display. Consider the following: How can this sort of separation between physical objects (e.g., cubes, spheres, etc.) and the rendering mechanism be achieved in an extensible manner? This design is not set in stone, and perhaps I've got something wrong from the start. I'm just curious as to how a problem like this is solved in real world code.

  Hey guys I'm putting data from website (json) to sql base. In db i have these rows. ID | PostId | Name | Message Id is auto-increment primary key. PostId also has a unique values. Name and Message are nothing special. When I run my script / click on the button in form / ... , the program saves all the values into database (lets say there are 25). Next time I'm going to press the button there will be added 25 more records (all duplicates), and so on... Is there a way that the program can check through 'PostIds' if the value already exists before adding it to the db? Thanks

  Well, not my server. My friend found it and sent it to me, trying to make sense of it. What it appears to be is a PHP IRC bot, but I have no idea how to decode it and make any sense of it. Here is the code: <?eval(gzinflate(base64_decode('some base 64 code here')))?> So I decoded the base64, and it output a ton of strange characters, I'm guessing either encrypted or a different file type, like when you change a .jpg to a .txt and open it. But I have no idea how to decode this and determine its source. Any help?

  Say I have a ClassWithManyDependencies. I want to write a Guice Provider for this class, in order to create a fresh instance of the class several times in my program (another class will depend on this Provider and use it at several points to create new instances). One way to achieve this is by having the Provider depend on all the dependencies of ClassWithManyDependencies. This is quite ugly. Is there a better way to achieve this? Note - I certainly don't want the Provider to depend on the injector. Another option I considered is having ClassWithManyDependencies and ClassWithManyDependenciesProvider extend the same base class, but it's butt ugly.

  I have a Team class that inherits from a Group class. Both Team and Groups have memberships through the same association. However, I need to run a method after a Team memberships is added but not a Group. The client databases and server database structure is different because we need to add client ID column to some tables in server data base. I use this way to sync databases; use another application and use C# bulk copy with transaction to sync databases. My server database sql server is too busy and parallel task cannot be run. I work on this solution: I use triggers after update, delete, insert to save changes in one table and create sql query to send a web service to sync data. But I must send all data first! Huge data set (bigger than 16mg) I think can't use replication because the structure and primary keys are different.

  I have created a ContentProvider for my main Sqlite table, pretty much following NotePad example from SDK (although I am not sure whether I will ever be exposing my data to other apps). However, I need to create lots of other, non-trivial queries on that and other tables and views. A good example would be queries to extract some statistics from the base data, averages, totals etc. So what's the best place for this code in an Android project?
