• Security of PHP script, embedded or otherwise

  Hi all, I am curious about the security of PHP on an HTML webpage where PHP code is embedded (a webpage that would exist on the server as "webpage.php") or on a PHP script that may be referenced by an HTML page (that is, a PHP script that is not actually part of a webpage that exists on the server as "something.php" and is referenced by "webpage.html"). Getting to the point, let us say that if the source code of my PHP script is known by anyone it would be a very big problem. I know that when you view the source of a PHP page in a browser the PHP script is not shown, but what if the PHP server failed and the HTML still loaded (is this even possible), would a user be able to see the PHP script? To be more general, is there ANY possible way that a user could access the source of a PHP script from a web browser, and if so, how do I prevent it?

  My friend wants to store electrically her school -notes and process them fast, with backups. She has over 2GB -size repo already and growing all the time (mostly appended material i.e. more school notes, different formats, pdf, pictures and scanned, some text -files, etc). The goal of my friend is to process fast the notes. I suggested command like this here i.e. "# crontab -e @weekly wget --random-wait -e robots=off -U mozilla -mirror http://VeryLong.com". But I think plugging in Rsync somewhere could make it much better with Git. How would you help my friend to process and store the school -material under Git-version-controlling and still keep the size reasonable? • Is c++ explicit conversion really that bad?

  My knowledge in c++ at this point is more academic than anything else and in all my reading thus far, the use of explicit conversion with named casts (const_cast, static_cast, reinterpret_cast, dynamic_cast) has come with a big warning label (and it's easy to see why) that pretty much implies explicit conversion is symptomatic of bad design and should only be used as a last resort in desperate circumstances. So i have to ask: Is explicit conversion with named casts really just jury rigging code or is there a more graceful and positive application to this feature? Is there a good example of the latter?   Hi, I'm writing an app in pure C which expects two line at input: first one, which tells how big an array of int will be, and the second, which contains values, separated by space. So, for the following input 5 1 2 3 4 99 I need to create an array containing {1,2,3,4,99} Now, my question is - what is the fastest (yet easy ;)) way to do so? My problem is "how to read multiple numbers without looping through the whole string checking if it's space or a number" ? Thanks m.

• Why does internet explorer 8 fail to locate jpg files that other browsers can find?

  The following URL doesn't display for me in Internet Explorer 8. I even tried compatibility mode and it didn't fix the issue. http://beat.com.au/sites/default/files/images/_DSC5596.jpg It appears just fine in Chrome/Safari/Firefox. I suspect it has something to do with the filename starting with _ but that seems like a fairly big stretch to me. Is this error repeatable on other people's computers? And why on earth would such a strange thing happen anyway?

• interfacing: simplified

  i've been doing some research on interfaces and a simple layman's explanation for what it truly is. For some reason people love using overly complex explanations and jargon to explain truly simple concepts (guess it makes them feel big) and i have a gut feeling it's the same in this case. so from what i could grasp, it seems like interfaces are nothing more than a way to reserve method names, their return type if any, and the type and amount of arguments they accept. so when a class implements an interface (or interfaces) it is forced to define the body of each method from the interface(s). Am i on the nose with this one or do i need to keep digging? p.s. i know javascript doesn't have support for interfaces, but i still need to understand the concept because there are quite a few places where it's shown how to emulate to an extent.

  I wanted to solve a question from project euleur about finding the largest prime number of a big number. I run my code on a virtual machine on Visual studio 2012, and the code seems froze. When I step into the loop, the code works well, but when I execute it, the console is always there. It is as if the program is still running. Could it be that the program takes time to execute? • Should I move client to Lamp or develop on Wamp?

  I have never developed for WAMP, the hosting guy for my new client says they are using Windows servers, they can setup PHP and MySQL for me, but they cannot switch to a *nix server. He said there are some nuances from PHP on *nix Vs. win. So my question is, if I have never programmed PHP on win, should I go through the hassle of switching hosts (since they cannot do *nix themselves), or are the differences slight enough that it shouldn't be too big a problem for me? (side note: the state of the clients website has no effect since it is a static all-flash site and is going to be completely rebuilt) Thanks!

  Hi, How can I determine whether xml serializer can serialize a file which is in a shared location and monitored by a file monitor. The file monitor has a list of parsers which are used to parse files in the shared folder. Once a file gets dropped into the folder, the file monitor will ask the registered parsers whether any of them can handle this file, if yes, the monitor will move the file out from the shared folder and assigns the task to the parser. Since some of the files are quite big, so I need to have a quick check on each parsers. How can I determine my xml parser can serialize the file without loading the full file into the memory?

  I need to generate large images (A4 image at 200 DPI, PNG format would be fine) in my compact framework application. This is impossible to do in standard way due to memory limitations (such big image will throw OOMException). Is there any library which offers file-backed stream image generation? Or I could generate many smaller stripes of images (each stripe representing a row of the large image) using standard Bitmap approach, but I need to merge them together afterwards - is there any method how to merge many smaller images into one large without having to instantiate large Bitmap instance (which would again cause OOM)?

• How can I implement lazy loading on a page with 500+ images?

  I basically have a booking engine unit results page which must show 40 units and per each unit there's 1 large image of the first thumbnail and an X number of accompanying thumbnail images. I've been using the jquery lazy load plugin, but it's not thorough enough ( I'm invoking it on DOM Ready ), plus it doesn't really work in IE ( 50% of the clients use IE so it's a big issue ). What I think I really need to do is not really spit out the image but a fake element such as a span, and possibly modify my code such that if the user views the span, render it into an image element. <span src="/images/foo.gif"> The booking engine relies on JS so I think I might be forced to just rely on ajaxifying all the thumbnails and have event handlers on window scroll, etc in order for the page to be "usable" and load at an average time ( 2-3 seconds instead of 5-30s on high speed DSL/Cable ). I'd appreciate any examples or ideas.

  Sometimes I need to UNREGISTER some ModelAdmins from the admin site, because I don't want them to be there as they are, eg. if I'm using the Sites framework, and I dont want it to appear in the admin. It's no big deal to e.g. call admin.site.unregister(Site) to do so. In most cases I put it in admin.py of some related app that I have made, but sometimes I end up putting it in a place that hasn't much to do with the original app; another possibility would be making a "dummy app" and put it there... Does anybody know a more descent place where these calls can live?

  hi there I have a big dataframe with columns such as: ID, time, OS, IP Each row of that dataframe corresponds to one entry. Within that dataframe for some IDs serveral entries (rows) exist. I would like to get rid of those multiple rows (obviously the other attributes will differ for the same ID). Or put different: I only want one single entry (row) for each ID. Could anyone be so kind and help me out on this one? When I use unique, on the ID column, I only recieve the levels (or each unique ID), but I want to keep the other attributes as well... I have tried to use apply(x,2,unique(data$ID)), but this does not work either... Any help is highly appreciated!

  I want to learn Web UI design. (I know, I know. Being a programmer puts me at a disadvantage. But I want to try anyway.) Thus, I would like to "debug" my CSS files. Once of the biggest annoyances I have found is that I cannot test a change in my CSS files without reloading the whole page. Sometimes, the page is too big. Sometimes, a lot of elements were brought to the page after lots of clicks, because my pages rely too heavily on AJAX. Sometimes, I just hate hitting Command+R all the time. Is there any extension for any of the major browsers (preferably Safari and/or Chrome) that re-renders the page using an updated version of the CSS file, without reloading the whole page itself?

  Since I have given up on using the entity framework 4 as my ORM (getting it to work with MySQL and mapping table/field names like this_table/this_field to object naming like ThisTable/ThisField is POCO) I am now looking at NHibernate as it seems the the next big well know ORM for C# that probably with not die off any time soon. I am trying to lookup some tutorials and a lot of them in the configuration section have 2-2 in it and was wondering if those configuration would work with NHibernate 3? I am just curious if the 2-2 refers to the version of NHibernate or something different.

• perl script grabbing environment vars from "someplace else"

  On a Solaris box in a "mysterious production system" I'm running a perl script that references an environment variable. No big deal. The contents of that variable from the shell both pre and post execution are what I expect.   We're struggling with a policy to correctly handle exceptions in our application. Here's our goals for it (summarized): Handle only specific exceptions. Handle only exceptions that you can correct Log only once. We've come out with a solution that involves a generic Application Specific Exception and works like this in a piece of code: try { // Do whatever } catch(ArgumentNullException ane) { // Handle, optinally log and continue } catch(AppSpecificException) { // Rethrow, don't log, don't do anything else throw; } catch(Exception e) { // Log, encapsulate (so that it won't be logged again) and throw Logger.Log("Really bad thing", e.Message, e); throw new AppSpecificException(e) } All exception is logged and then turned to an AppSpecificException so that it won't be logged again. Eventually it will reach the last resort event handler that will deal with it if it has to. I don't have so much experience with exception handling patterns... Is this a good way to solve our goals? Has it any major drawbacks or big red warnings?

  Hi Everyone. I am experiencing an odd issue. I just switched to FastCGI (Apache) because of the big performance boost. Everything is working great, except when I attempt to use sendmail (Codeigniter Class or just raw PHP). I have tested with and without CI and still get a 500 internal server error when trying to send. Could this be getting caused by a discrepency in how FastCGI utilizes sendmail? Has anyone else experienced this issue? Also, the email will send, it just errors afterwards. Please let me know a solution if you have one! Thanks! :)

  I am trying to retrieve file path for a html file that is embedded in resource (resx file) in VS2008 C# project. I want to give path of this file to native webbrowser control (PIEHtml) to be able to navigate (DTM_NAVIGATE) in my application. I know I can pass the string to this control using DTM_ADDTEXTW but since html text size is so big, I dont want to pass string to the control. I need to somehow extract the file path for this html file embedded inside resource manager. I tried using but this does not give the file path of html inside assembly: private ResourceManager resManager = new ResourceManager("AppName.FolderName.FileName", System.Reflection.Assembly.GetExecutingAssembly()); this.lbl.Text = resManager.GetString("StringInResources"); and also read Retrieving Resources in Satellite Assemblies but it did not solve my problem. Can somebody please provide info as to how to achieve this ?

• windows control library in c sharp

  I have just added a textbox, button, label to validate ID of 12 characters. The library is called check_ID. It works fine. The only problem is i have to access the forecolor of label, backcolor of textbox , forecolor of button as per color scheme of the project. But it seems that none of the properties of the objects in check_ID are available for modification. I have even changed the modifier to public of all objects by repoening the check_ID project. Is there another way to access the properties of these objects that are created using windows control library?. A very big thanks in advance.

  I'm a little lost as how to run two mysql queries as one(return one result set to be sorted etc). I understand how to do multiple JOINS but need to combine the below which is more than just a multiple join - it would include a multiple where etc. 1st query sql = "SELECT s.id, s.song_name FROM `songs` as s INNER JOIN `artists` as a ON s.artist_id = a.id WHERE ((`a`.id = #{search}))" 2nd query sql = "SELECT s.id, s.song_name FROM `songs` as s INNER JOIN `similarments` as si ON s.artist_id = si.artist_id WHERE ((`si`.similar_id = #{search}))" And then run both queries at once so I can ORDER them etc. Or combine them as one big query (maybe put an OR somewhere)?
