• How to copy QT folder to another folder without reinstalling it?

  I have QT installed on disc D (on Windows). And I want to move it to disc C. Is it possible to do that? If I just copy QT folder from C to D then I see lot of errors when I compile my applications that use QT. Errors are because qmake.exe contains full paths to include, bin and libs folders inside. So, when I create solution for Visual Studio 2005 using qmake - then this solution contains dependencies to old QT folder from disc D. And I found no way how to remove this dependencies without reinstalling of QT. It is not a big problem for one my single machine - I can reinstall. But I need to deliver this change then to tens and hundreds of other developers machines and I want to make it as easy as possible without need to reinstall QT.

• iPhone. How to intercept system dialogs?

  My app offers the user the opportunity to put an event in his native calendar. For that, I refer to an online webcal:// URL. Since the underlying .ics file is quite big (containing quite a few events), it sometimes (also depending on the network performance)takes a while before the "Do you want to subscribe"-dialog sequence kicks in. I would like to give the user some feedback in the mean time, like a spinner, or a changing graphic, for him to know that something is going to happen. Question: how does my app know, that the "Do you want to subscribe"-dialog has been shown, and that the user has chosen either a Cancel of OK button in that dialog, so I can stop the spinner?

• guide on crawling the entire web ?

  i just had this thought, and was wondering if it's possible to crawl the entire web (just like the big boys!) on a single dedicated server (like Core2Duo, 8gig ram, 750gb disk 100mbps) . I've come across a paper where this was done....but i cannot recall this paper's title. it was like about crawling the entire web on a single dedicated server using some statistical model. Anyways, imagine starting with just around 10,000 seed URLs, and doing exhaustive crawl.... is it possible ? I am in need of crawling the web but limited to a dedicated server. how can i do this, is there an open source solution out there already ? for example see this real time search engine. http://crawlrapidshare.com the results are exteremely good and freshly updated....how are they doing this ?

• UITableView: Need a liveUpdate (Huge amount of cells)

  Hey all, I have a UITableView which shows some information. The informations are from a XMLFile. The Xmlfile is pretty big, about 500 entries. I don't want that the user has to wait until the parsing has finished, i want to add cell by cell to the TableView.   How do YOU debug a Scala program? I mean YOU as in the person posting the Answer :) Please answer only from personal experience, not from stuff you've heard or read on the Internet. You should not believe everything you read on the Internet, especially tales of complex open-source software configurations that actually work :-) The are many Java tools which claim to support Scala in some way or another, but I have so far struck out in trying to get any one of them to actually let me set a breakpoint in Scala code and step through it. These are big, major open-source IDEs I'm talking about here. The main problem in getting a debugger to work seems to be the "version hell" with fast-changing IDEs, Plug-Ins, JDKs, and the Scala language itself. Hence, the more detailed re-statement of the question is appropriate: What is the exact version number of the IDE, Plug-In, JDK, Scala, and even Operating System, that you are successfully using? • 100+ tables to joined

  Hi guys, I was wondering if anyone ever had a change to measure how a would 100 joined tables perform? Each table would have an ID column with primary index and all table are 1:1 related. It is a common problem within many data entry applications where we need to collect 1000+ data points. One solution would be to have one big table with 1000+ columns and the alternative would be to split them into multiple tables and join them when it is necessary. So perhaps more real question would be how 30 tables (30 columns each) would behave with multitable join. 500K-1M rows should be the expected size of the tables. Cheers

  There is a strange behavior of delete-directory function with enabled flag delete-by-removing-to-trash. It deletes files one by one instead of applying move-file-to-trash to the directory. As a result emacs deletes big directories slowly and there are many files in the trash after deleting, so it is impossible to restore the directory. Example: Directory structure: ddd/ ccc/ 1.txt There are three files in the trash after deleting ddd: trash/ ddd/ ccc/ 1.txt instead of one: trash/ ddd/ It is very slow, because emacs traverse directory recursively. I can't restore deleted directory. What i need is exactly the same behavior as of move-file-to-trash. But it should be transparent (i.e. 'D x' in dired mode). How to solve the problem? As a temporary solution i see the making advice function for `delete-directory'.

I dont want hard locks) * Exception handling * memcache * xss and injection protections * javascript * html * ACLs * phonetics in search, match and find duplicates (for form validation) * Ajaxify!!! (I have snipped off the project specific items.) I know that each todo will be quite tied up to its project and technologies used. What I am wondering though, is if there is a pattern in your todo items as well as the sequence in which you experienced guys have come across them.

• How can I detect endianness on a system where all primitive integer sizes are the same?

  (This question came out of explaining the details of CHAR_BIT, sizeof, and endianness to someone yesterday. It's entirely hypothetical.) Let's say I'm on a platform where CHAR_BIT is 32, so sizeof(char) == sizeof(short) == sizeof(int) == sizeof(long). I believe this is still a standards-conformant environment. The usual way to detect endianness at runtime (because there is no reliable way to do it at compile time) is to make a union { int i, char c[sizeof(int)] } x; x.i = 1 and see whether x.c[0] or x.c[sizeof(int)-1] got set. But that doesn't work on this platform, as I end up with a char[1]. Is there a way to detect whether such a platform is big-endian or little-endian, at runtime? Obviously it doesn't matter inside this hypothetical system, but one can imagine it is writing to a file, or some kind of memory-mapped area, which another machine reads and reconstructs it according to its (saner) memory model.

• Did the OS X java update to 1.5u7 whack my 1.6.0 laf.jar?

  This is the update that just came out this week (2010-05-18) Somebody moved my cheese. It appears that laf.jar is Look And Feel, so probably not a big deal for my java development. Eclipse got mad about the missing jar, and furthermore thinks the 1.6.0 VM disappeared, which it didn't. Had to redefine the VM library within eclipse and everything appears kosher, but was hoping somebody with more hit points than me could say so definitively. Am I all good? Was it really the OSX update for 1.5 that went and hunted down a file in my 1.6 VM? Haven't been able to google anything about this... if somebody could post a link to some info about this, that'd be appreciated too.

  What are the performance issues associated with generating 100's of dynamic methods in Ruby? I've been interested in using the Ruby Preferences Gem and noticed that it generates a bunch of helper methods for each preference you set. For instance: class User < ActiveRecord::Base preference :hot_salsa end ...generates something like: user.prefers_hot_salsa? # => false user.prefers_hot_salsa # => false If there are 100's of preferences like this, how does this impact the application? I assume it's not really a big deal but I'm just wondering, theoretically.

  Hello, Im executing sql query on my database. I have sql server 2008 installed on my D harddrive which has 55 GB free space. I have also C drive which has sth like 150 MB free (right now). While executing that query on quite a big table (16 GB) I have an error: An error occurred while executing batch. Error message is: Not enough disc space. I would like to know if there is any possibility that I can make Sql server to use D drive instead of C Or maybe there is any other problem with what Im doing ? Thanks for help

  Question 1 Do vertex buffer objects created under a certain VAO deleted once that VAO is deleted? The reason I'm asking is that I saw a few examples over the web that didn't delete those buffer objects. Question 2 What is the maximum amount of memory that I can allocate for buffer objects? It must be system dependent of course, but I can't seem find an estimation for it. What happens when video RAM isn't big enough? How would I know?

  I have a web reference for our report server embedded in our application. The server that the reports live on could change though, and I'd like to be able to change it "on the fly" if necessary. • How much memory is reserved when i declare a string?

  What exactly happens, in terms of memory, when i declare something like: char arr[4]; How many bytes are reserved for arr? How is null string accommodated when I 'strcpy' a string of length 4 in arr? I was writing a socket program, and when I tried to suffix NULL at arr[4] (i.e. the 5th memory location), I ended up replacing the values of some other variables of the program (overflow) and got into a big time mess. Any descriptions of how compilers (gcc is what I used) manage memory?

  I am working on a small bit of script that will allow for easy and flexible creation of buttons. My buttons are made of three parts, a left, a right and a streched middle piece. There are three different sizes and three different colours of each. I have written the code that resizes the button to fit the text. Now I am looking to add the ability to easily set the colour and size. I was thinking of using three classes something like <div class="button blue big"> My script already loops through the button classes using each. Now I need to find out what other classes are set and adjust the pictures and dimentions used to fit. So how can I find out what other class selectors an element has? Also I am fairly new to jquery/javascript so I am wondering if storing the design as class selectors is the best way.

• Is it possible to optimize maven dependencies automatically?

  I am working on a big project that consists of about 40 sub-projects with very not optimized dependencies. There are declared dependencies that are not in use as well as used but undeclared dependencies. The second case is possible when dependency is added via other dependency. I want to remove redundant and add required dependencies. I ran mvn dependency:analyze and got a long list of warnings I have to fix now. I wonder whether there is maven plugin or any other utility that can update my pom.xml files automatically. I tried to do it manually but it takes a lot of time. It seems it will take a couple of days of copy/paste to complete the task. In worse case I can write such script myself but probably ready stuff exists? • [java] Threading socket handler for two sided communication in tcp port

  I want to make a chat which will be programed in java. one computer will host the server and the other one will initiate the socket [tcp port]. now from what I read there should be a loop that will constantly read the socket which means it will make the code stuck. I have a button that is 'actionperformed' on mouse release, I want to know if it will work along with the loops that constantly reads the socket so that it will also send the infromation I wrote. If I must thread it, I want to know if the run() method must be void because if I thread it it will mean creating a new class, and the whole GUI is one big class which includes a text area, and it's private. also how can I extract the information from the socket directly to the text area? lets say the textarea variable is called "chatOutput". thx :)

Infor PM website It is apparently used by over 1,000 companies around the world, but I have found scant information about it on the net except for what's on their own website. It covers the whole range of data warehousing and BI functions with: an OLAP environment an ETL tool a report writer (called Application Studio) an add-on to Excel to connect to the data in the cubes through a pivot table etc Does anyone have any experience with using this package? How does it compare to the big players in BI (Cognos, Microsoft SSAS, Business Objects, etc). Any pitfalls I should know about? On the other hand, does it do anything better than its competitors?

  Hello all. I have a tree structure that can be n-levels deep, without restriction. That means that each node can have another n nodes. What is the best way to retrieve a tree like that without issuing thousands of queries to the database? I looked at a few other models, like flat table model, Preorder Tree Traversal Algorithm, and so. Do you guys have any tips or suggestions of how to implement a efficient tree model? My objective in the real end is to have one or two queries that would spit the whole tree for me. • Searching for the right pattern to handle login data

  Hi all, I'm working on a controller that handles logins for a Web app. These logins will come from multiple clients but will all contain the same data. However, depending on the client, this data will be interpreted into common entities for our webapp differently. For instance, we have a user code that gets sent in, and in one case we may use the first four digits of the code, and in another case 12 digits of the code to map to a field on a User entity. Instead of handling this all in the controller and having big nasty if blocks of logic, I would like to use a pattern to handle how this information gets ingested into our application. What are your opinions?
