  • JQuery div tag has children in FireFox but not Chrome

    I am using JQuery ajax to load images from a url, display them, and then place a button on top of each image. The code works in firefox, but in chrome, the div parent "photos" that should have all the children(one child div "photo" for each image received from the url) is 0. I have tried read() and load(), but nothing seems to work. If I run alert($('#photos').children().size()); in the Chrome console it returns the children. But at execution it returns 0.   • Easy way to compute how close an auto_increment is to its maximum value?

    So yesterday we had a table that has an auto_increment PK for a smallint that reached its maximum. We had to alter the table on an emergency basis, which is definitely not how we like to roll. Is there an easy way to report on how close each auto_increment field that we use is to its maximum? The best way I can think of is to do a SHOW CREATE TABLE statement, parse out the size of the auto-incremented column, then compare that to the AUTO_INCREMENT value for the table. On the other hand, given that the schema doesn't change very often, should I store information about the columns' maximum values and get the current AUTO_INCREMENT with SHOW TABLE STATUS?

    When an external JavaScript file is referenced, <script type="text/javascript" src="js/jquery-1.4.4.min.js"></script> is the JavaScript source (lines of code before interpretation) available from the DOM or window context in the current HTML page? I mean by using only standard JavaScript without any installed components or tools. I know tools like Firebug trace into external source but it's installed on the platform and likely has special ability outside the context of the browser sandbox.

  • What's the best way to do Ruby gemspec creation and dependency management?

    Over the last few months, there have been a number of rapid developments in the state of Ruby dependency management and gem creation, to the point where I've been having trouble keeping up with everything. If I'm writing a new gem, what's the best tool for me to use to create my gemspec? Are there disadvantages of using this tool over competitors? I've used Bundler a few times on applications and for me it's been a lifesaver. Is the consensus that it is suitable for use with production apps? Are there quirks or idiosyncracies people should be aware of? Links to resources you've used and have found helpful would also be much appreciated.

    Is there an easy way to get a summary string of the errors that have been added to a controller's modelstate? I'm looking to return this in an Ajax method and want the validation errors etc to be returned to the client (i.e. the view does not exist for this method call). Or do I have to loop through the modelstate and look at each object and extract the error text manually?

  • Which ISO format should I use to store a user's language?

    Should I use ISO 639-1 (2-letter abbreviation) or ISO 639-2 (3 letter abbrv) to store the user's language? Both are official standards, but which is the de facto standard in the development community? I think ISO 639-1 would be easier to remember, and is probably more popular for that reason, but thats just a guess.     Hi, I have some code where the model contains some classes like (vb.net pseudocode, but could be any OO language): Enum AttributeType Boolean Date String End Enum MustInherit Class Attibute Must Override Function Type As AttributeType End Class Class BooleanAttribute: Attribute Function Type As AttributeType Return AttributeType.Boolean End Function End Class And the view contains some code like: Select Case AttributeType Case Boolean //Display checkbox control Case Date //Display date picker control Case String //Display textbox control End Select I don't really like the code in the view, for the hopefully obvious reasons (what happens when I get a new attribute type etc). My question is, how should I replace it? I could easily add a method to the concrete classes, but that pollutes the model with UI stuff so that's a horrible idea. I could move the select into a factory, but that seems to be just hiding the problem. Can anybody advise a better approach?

    I feel a little stupid for having to ask this… But I can't seem find it documented anywhere. If I've got a Model with FileField, how can I stuff an uploaded FILE into that FileField? For example, I'd like to do something like this: class MyModel(Model): file = FileField(...) def handle_post(request, ...): mymodel = MyModel.objects.get(...) if request.FILES.get("newfile"): mymodel.file = request.FILES["newfile"] But that doesn't appear to work.

    I am working on a program where each item can hold an array of items (i'm making a menu, which has a tree-like structure) currently i have the items as a list, instead of an array, but I don't feel like I'm using it to its full potential to simplify code. I chose a list over a standard array because the interface (.add, .remove, etc...) makes a lot of sense. I have code to search through the structure and return the path of the name (i.e. Item.subitem.subsubitem.subsubsubitem).     I have a need to design a system to track users memberships to groups with varying roles (currently three). class Group < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :memberships has_many :users, :through => :memberships end class Role < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :memberships has_many :users, :through => :memberships end class Membership < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :user belongs_to :role belongs_to :group end class User < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :memberships has_many :groups, :through => :memberships end Ideally what I want is to simply set @group.users << @user and have the membership have the correct role. I can use :conditions to select data that has been manually inserted as such : :conditions => ["memberships.grouprole_id= ? ", Grouprole.find_by_name('user')] But when creating the membership to the group the grouprole_id is not being set. Is there a way to do this as at present I have a somewhat repetitive piece of code for each user role in my Group model.

I need to find out who those users are, hence the first query. Once I find them, I throw them into an array. Then comes the difficult part. I want those newly partnerless users (5,6,7) to be randomly assigned new partners from everyone in the table. The current code is flawed in that it only assigns the newly partnerless users eachother.   • Using * Width & Precision Specifiers With boost::format

    I am trying to use width and precision specifiers with boost::format, like this: #include <boost\format.hpp> #include <string> int main() { int n = 5; std::string s = (boost::format("%*.*s") % (n*2) % (n*2) % "Hello").str(); return 0; } But this doesn't work because boost::format doesn't support the * specifier. Boost throws an exception when parsing the string. Is there a way to accomplish the same goal, preferably using a drop-in replacement?

  • How to troubleshoot "The server tag is not well formed. " error on sharepoint?

    I'm trying to edit a legacy wss3 sharepoint site. Messing around with a 700+ code lines aspx page I got a "The server tag is not well formed." error on sharepoint and The ?content=1 trick does not work. Anyone has a tip on how to get to the line that's causing the problem? I'm expecting something like the aspnet ysod, at least that's usefull. If it's worth something, I have access to the actual server.

  • Replacing mysql user authentication with openid

    So, I'm working with a really old system which uses a person's mysql database credentials to authenticate to a web site (the database was originally only accessed from the command line, but is now accessed from a php frontend). Because of some internal reasons (and to preserve the user's history), I have to leave the old authentication intact. I've been charged with adding openid authentication to this system. Somehow I need to be able to retrieve a users mysql username and password upon logging into the site through openid (using the Zend framework, by the way). I've thought of simply requiring registration at the first login, where the user must provide their mysql credentials, but I'd rather not store the password plain text. I've also considered blanking everyone's mysql passwords, and just setting the user's mysql username manually (rather than having the user provide this, since they could provide any username). This is turning into a security nightmare. Does anyone have any suggestions for alternatives? This is running on a Linux server, by the way. Also, I can't use mysql pluggable authentication because the mysql version is 5.0 (pluggable authentication requires mysql 5.5), and no, I can't update it.

Any suggestions on how to do this?

  • Xml with spaces as InnerText

    I'm parsing Xml data which has entries like this: <item name="UserText" type_name="gh_string" type_code="10"> </item> I'm supposed to read the 6 spaces as a String, but both the InnerText and InnerXml values of the System.Xml.XmlNode are zero length Strings. Is there any way I can get at this whitespace data in existing files and what do I need to do in the future to prevent this sort of screw up?

  • Binding Javascript Event Handlers to a an Ajax HTML Response?

    Let's say I have the following HTML code <div id="outer"> <div id="inner">Hello World</div> </div> At the end of my HTML page, I use javascript to attach event handlers like so, document.getElementById('inner').onclick = function() {alert(this.innerHTML);} document.getElementById('outer').onclick = function() { /* An Ajax Call where the response, which will be a string of HTML content, then goes into document.getElementById('outer').innerHTML */ document.getElementById('inner').onclick = function() {alert(this.innerHTML);} } In the above code, I am expecting <div id="inner">Hello World 2</div> to come back which requires me to re-attach the onclick event handler. This makes sense because the new response coming back is just a string, and I have to tell the browser that after converting to DOM, i also need some event handlers So my question is, is there a better way to manage event handlers on AJAX response that contains HTML content? I could use inline javascript within the html response, but then it prevents me from achieving non-intrusive javascript. So is there a way to achieve non-intrusive javascript and an efficient way to "maintain" event handlers of ajax html responses?
