• Using SetWindowTheme() on controls in WindowsFormsHost in WPF?

  I have an application I'm developing which closely mirrors Windows 7's Device Stage. In Device Stage, beneath the main banner there is a ListView containing actions embodied as ListViewItems. In my WPF application, I used WindowsFormsHost to host a WinForms ListView so that I could use SetWindowTheme() on it and apply Windows Vista/7 styling to it. This, however, does not work and doesn't achieve the same effect it does when used in Windows Forms. How can I achieve the Windows 7 look on a ListView in WPF? I'm not looking to create a custom style then apply it because frankly that's too much of a pain in the ass to continue using WPF for this app. Thanks! :)

• Windows phone 8.1 emulator not loading OS

  I am trying to launch the emulator (Emulator 8.1 WVGA 4 inch 512 MB, or any other as a matter of fact) but it fails to launch. It goes to the "Loading OS" screen then throws an error box with the text "DEP6100". On VS, it says at the bottom Error1 Error : DEP6100 : The following unexpected error occurred during bootstrapping stage 'Connecting to the device': ObjectDisposedException - 0x80131622 and Error2 Error : DEP6100 : The following unexpected error occurred during bootstrapping stage 'Connecting to the device': ObjectDisposedException - 0x80131622 Looked in the internet but haven't found an answer yet.   I'm getting the following error in Xcode 3.2.1 on Snow Leopard 10.6.2 whenever I try to compile any iPhone application generated by Appcelerator's Titanium . However , the build error only appears when I select iPhone simulator on the architecture menu , and if I select iPhone device , I am able to run the app on my device . Further , the iPhone simulator launches successfully and executes the program directly from the Titanium environment , which uses Xcode to build . • Hyper-V + RRAS NAT + Port Forwarding + RDP, can I get it all working together?

  I am running a Windows 2008 R2 server with various services running natively and two virtualised servers running on Hyper-V. The hardware server, I'm going to call it REAL1, has one external NIC, to which I can assign any of the following IP addresses: 1.2.3.4, 1.2.3.5, 1.2.3.6, etc... I need to achieve the following: I would like to be able to connect to REAL1 via remote desktop (RDP / port 3389) on one IP address (say 1.2.3.4), but also to the virtualised servers (I'm going to call them VIRTUAL1 and VIRTUAL2) on the other available IP addresses (say 1.2.3.5 and 1.2.3.6). The easiest way of doing this is to connect the virtual servers directly to the external interface and assign them each their own IP address. REAL1 will have 1.2.3.4, VIRTUAL1 will have 1.2.3.5 and VIRTUAL2 will have 1.2.3.6. Unfortunately, although I don't directly manage the two virtual servers, I have responsibility for their security. I would like to have some kind of firewall between the virtual servers an the internet. I have tried running a virtual machine firewall, but have found the performance on Hyper-V pretty terrible. The alternative I am now trying is Routing and Remote Access (RRAS): I have set up a virtual network called 'Internal' and REAL1 has a virtual network adapter connected to this virtual network I have connected each of the virtual servers to this network too I have assigned each server static IP addresses on this virtual network (REAL1 has 10.1.1.1, VIRTUAL1 has 10.1.1.2 and VIRTUAL2 has 10.1.1.3) I have installed RRAS and set up a NAT. The external interface is the external NIC, the internal interface is the virtual NIC connected to the internal network I have assigned all the available external IP addresses to the external NIC on REAL1. The virtual servers have been set up appropriately such that their default gateway is pointing to 10.1.1.1 and they can both access externally. Success! The RRAS is routing packets. The problem I have is that when I try to port forward services from the external IP address on REAL1, it only works if there is not already a service bound to the port. Remote desktop 'greedily' binds to every available IP address on port 3389 on REAL1 so I can't selectively forward incoming traffic for 1.2.3.5:3389 to 10.1.1.2:3389. RRAS will allow me to set up this port forwarding, and no errors come up. It just doesn't work. So the question I have is: Is there a better way of doing this? Or at least is there a way of resolving the apparant conflict between RRAS and everything else on the physical server?

  My application has two different modes I am switching between by replacing the two views in a UISplitViewController. This involves instantiating the new views and a new UISplitViewController. I then set the new detail view as the UISplitViewController's delegate. I'm running into an issue where when I replace the view controllers and splitview controller, they are not properly sized or added for the current orientation. For instance, if I have my iPad in UIDeviceOrientationPortraitUpsideDown the view will be upside down when I call addSubview, but will rotate to the proper orientation after a second. In another instance, if I have the device in landscape mode and swap the views, the detail view controller is not fully stretched to the size of the view. If I rotate the device to portrait and back to landscape, its resized properly.   Hi, When I set the backgroundColor for my UITableView it works fine on iPhone (device and simulator) but NOT on the iPad simulator. Instead I get a light gray background for any color I set including groupTableViewBackgroundColor. Steps to reproduce: Create a new navigation-based project. Open RootViewController.xib and set the table view style to "Grouped". Add this responder to the RootViewController:- (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; self.view.backgroundColor = [UIColor blackColor]; } Select Simulator SDK 3.2, build and run. You will get a black background (device and simulator). Select your target in the project tree. Click on Project : Upgrade Current Target for iPad. Build and run. • UIScrollView issue with autorotation and content scaling

  Hi, I'm building a new (autorotating) iPad app that consists mainly of a screen sized UIScrollView that contains an UIImageView for an image which is 5 times the iPad screen resolution while in portrait mode (3840x1024). What I haven't been able to accomplish is that whenever the device rotates (to whichever orientation) the imageView bounds and the scrollView contentSize asjusts the image for the new height (maintaining its aspect ratio), making the height of the image to always fit the device height for the given orientation (so in the particular case of this image, it would get shown as 2880x768). I tried different combinations of autoresizingMask and contentMode for the imageView but the closer I've been able to get is to effectively display the image at the desired size but with a white padding around it and into the scrollView content (to make up for the original orientation contentSize). I also tried recalculating the scrollView contentSize in the didRotate.../viewWillAnimate... rotation-related methods in my viewController class, with no avail. Best regards and thanks for your time

I have a UIView which is supposed to cover the whole device (UIWindow) to support an image zoom in/out effect I'm doing using core animation where a user taps a button on a UITableViewCell and I zoom the associated image. The zooming is performing flawlessly, what I haven't been able to figure out is why the subview is still in portrait mode even though the device is in landscape. • What is the difference between Anycast and GeoDNS / GeoIP wrt HA?

  Based on the Wikipedia description of Anycast, it includes both the distribution of a domain-name-to-many-IP-mapping across many DNS servers as well as replying to clients with the most geographically close (or fastest) server. In the context of a globally distributed, highly available site like google.com (or any CDN service with many global edge locations) this sounds like the two key features one would need. DNS services like Amazon's Route53, EasyDNS and DNSMadeEasy all advertise themselves as Anycast-enabled networks. Therefore my assumption is that each of these DNS services transparently offer me those two killer features: multi-IP-to-domain mapping AND routing clients to the closest node. However, each of these services seem to separate out these two functionalities, referring to the 2nd one (routing clients to closest node) as "GeoDNS", "GeoIP" or "Global Traffic Director" and charge extra for the service. If a core tenant of an Anycast-capable system is to already do this, why is this functionality being earmarked as this extra feature? What is this "GeoDNS" feature doing that a standard Anycast DNS service won't do (according to the definition of Anycast from Wikipedia -- I understand what is being advertised, just not why it isn't implied already). I get extra-confused when a DNS service like Route53 that doesn't support this nebulous "GeoDNS" feature lists functionality like: Fast – Using a global anycast network of DNS servers around the world, Route 53 is designed to automatically route your users to the optimal location depending on network conditions. As a result, the service offers low query latency for your end users, as well as low update latency for your DNS record management needs. ... which sounds exactly like what GeoDNS is intended to do, but geographically directing clients is something they explicitly don't support it yet. Ultimately I am looking for the two following features from a DNS provider: Map multiple IP addresses to a single domain name (like google.com, amazon.com, etc. does) Utilize a DNS service that will respond to client requests for that domain with the IP address of the nearest server to the requestee. As mentioned, it seems like this is all part of an "Anycast" DNS service (all of which these services are), but the features and marketing I see from them suggest otherwise, making me think I need to learn a bit more about how DNS works before making a deployment choice.   Hello all, a short question. I've created an app for the iPad, much like a utility app for the iPhone (one mainView, one flipSideView). The animation between them is UIModalTransitionStylePartialCurl. shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation is returning YES. If I rotate the device BEFORE entering the FlipSide, everything is okay and the PartialCurl is displayed okay. But if I enter the FlipSide and then rotate the device, while the UIElements do rotate and position themselves just fine, the actual "page curl" stays with its initial orientation. it just won't budge :) Is it a known issue? am I doing something wrong?   I created a bare bones iPhone app with a UIWebView (Scales Page to Fit = YES, shouldAutorotateToInterfaceOrientation = YES) and loaded a webpage, e.g. http://stackoverflow.com/ Rotating the device shows that UIWebView is auto-resized to fit the width. Good. Incorrect: Zoom into the page and zoom out. Now rotating the device shows UIWebView in a weird width in one of the orientation (if u zoom in landscape, the portrait width is weird, vice versa). This behavior is fixed only when you navigate to another page. Correct: Load the same URL in Mobile Safari. Rotating works & the width fits regardless of the zooming exercise. Is this a UIWebView bug (probably not)? Or is there something that needs to be done to make things "just work" like in Mobile Safari?

To me, it looks as if the Cisco AnyConnect VPN client intercepts DNS queries from the clients. Can someone confirm that the AnyConnect VPN client in fact does this (intercepts DNS traffic)? Where is this configured on the VPN server?   I have built a blog application using Ruby on Rails. In the application I have posts and tags. Post has_many :tags and Tag belongs_to :post. In the /views/posts/index.html view I want to display two things. First is a listing of all posts displayed 'created_at DESC' and then in the side bar I am wanting to reference my Tags table, group records, and display as a link that allows for viewing all posts with that tag. With the code below, I am able to display the tag groups and succesfully display all posts with that tag. There are two problems with it thought. /posts view, the code seems to be referencing the Tag table and displaying the post multiple times, directly correlated to how many tags that post has. (i.e. if the post has 3 tags it will display the post 3 times). /posts view, only displays posts that have Tags. • Use IPtables or null route for blacklisting about 1 million IP addresses?

  I've come across a situation where a client needs to blacklist a set of just under 1 million individual IP addresses (no subnets), and network performance is a concern. While I would conjecture that IPTables rules would have less of a performance impact than routes, that's just conjecture. Does anyone have any solid evidence or other justification for favoring either IPTables or null routing as solution for blacklisting long lists of IP addresses? In this case everything is automated, so ease-of-use isn't really a concern.

  Hey, I have a UITextField in a .xib file with the secure option marked as YES. I have several international keyboards on my device. When the secure option is set to NO, I have no problem using all of the international keyboards on my device, but when it is set to YES, I am only able to use the English keyboard. Is there a way to an option I can use to enable this feature, or would I have to do this manually (don't mark the secure option and replace the text the user enters with *'s)? Thanks,

• iPhone hitTest broken after rotation

  Hi all, I have a UIView that contains a number of CALayer subclasses. I am using the following code to detect which layer a touch event corresponds to: - (void)touchesBegan:(NSSet *)touches withEvent:(UIEvent *)event { UITouch *touch = [touches anyObject]; CGPoint touchPoint = [touch locationInView:self]; NSLog(@"%@,%@",NSStringFromCGPoint(point),[self.layer hitTest:point].name); } This works fine until the device is rotated. When the device is rotated all current layers are removed from the superlayer, and new CALayers are created to fit the new orientation. The new layers are correctly inserted and viewable in the correct orientation. After the rotation the hitTest method consistently returns nil when clearly clicking on the newly created layers and registers for locations of layers which are incorrect. The coordinates of the hit test are correct, but no layers are found. Am I missing a function call or something after handling the rotation? Cheers, Adam

• Dynamically load nib for iPhone/iPad within view controller

  Hello I have converted an iPhone application using the wizard like thing in XCode into a universal app. It builds fine but obviously looks a bit rubbish in some areas :) I need to load nibs according to which device is being used. I dont wish to create my view controllers using initWithNib as I already have code to create the controllers with some data (initWithMyLovelyData) which doesnt do anything to do with nib loading. I know to find out the device you use UI_USER_INTERFACE_IDIOT() so I tried overriding the initWithNibName within the actual view controllers themselves, assuming they get called internally somehow. But it's not working as I guess I am unsure of the syntax. I have tried if(ipad..) self = [super initWithNibName:@"MyIpadNib" bundle:nibBundleOrNil]; And that doesnt work :/ EDIT - I know I have massively edited this, made my question a bit more specific after doing some more research - apologies!

• 2-Bay External HDD Enclosure in JBOD mode fails to detect both drives (Linux & Windows)

  I recently purchased a couple of USB 3.0 External HDD Enclosures to use for storage and backup; the idea was to have one act as backup to the other, with 4 x 3TB drives in total. However, the second drive in each is not accessible in either Linux nor Windows, and I could not determine the reason. 1. Situation The two enclosures are slightly different (couldn't find them in stock at the same time) yet from many little details appear to be the same Chinese base design with a tweaked outer shell. The models are: Sharkoon 2-Bay RAID Box Fantec MR-35DU3 The drives are Seagate 3TB Barracuda ST33000651AS, firmware CC44, all identical. From reading manuals and online sources, I determined that JBOD would be the optimal setup for my needs -- addressing the two drives separately in each enclosure would be important, making it easy to swap drives and mix&match them if needed; all the other modes implied the controller doing a combination of the drives. The software used was Debian GNU/Linux - testing/wheezy - kernel 2.6.39-2 and Windows 7 Ultimate. 2. Description of the problem Now, here comes the problem: every time I connect either of the enclosures to a PC using the supplied cable (tried a different one as well), only the HDD in the top bay is readable, the one below is detected yet errors out in various ways. According to the manuals, it should not happen: in JBOD, the system should be able to "see" two separate drives upon connection. This happens with both enclosures and any combination of HDDs (i.e. if I swap them, the same thing happens), so the HDDs are good and I think so are the enclosures (two different companies making similar products that failed in an identical fashion would be very unlikely). The top HDD can be used fine every time, I actually tried a speed test from Linux and got about 150MiB/s reads, so all is working as it should; the one below refuses to work every time. So the failure is consistent. To make sure this was not some obscure Linux bug, I tried the same under Windows 7, and the system also only created one drive letter for a drive of 3TB size (so it was only seeing one instead of both). Placing an older, known good, 2TB drive in the top bay made that the one recognised, so we have the same issue under Windows as well. Log entries under Linux (tested here with a 3TB and a 2TB drive so I could differentiate them; either one works in the top enclosure, in the test setup the 3TB one is on top). • Using WSUS Admin Console from outside domain

  Environment: I have a workstation on our primary domain. We have a primary WSUS Server that is the upstream server of 8 different testing domains. The Primary WSUS server is not part of any domain. Routing is configured between my workstation and the Primary WSUS server. I can RDP to the Primary WSUS sever without any problem. The router is configured to forward any any between my workstation and the Primary WSUS server. This WSUS server cannot be part of a domain due to external requirements (I can't change them) on the lab I work in. The version of WSUS is WSUS 3.0 SP 2 What I want to do: I need to connect to the WSUS server with the WSUS Admin console from my local workstation. The end goal is to connect via Powershell and manage with that. I also need to take what I do here and port it to the 8 test domains so I can manage those WSUS servers. The routing is all in place so I can talk to the servers, it's just connecting to the WSUS console that is causing problems. The problem: I cannot get my workstation to connect to the WSUS Console. I get one of the following errors depending on the setup. 1st error: Cannot connect to 'WSUS'. You do not have the permissions required to access this WSUS server. To connect to the server you must be a member of the WSUS Administrators or WSUS Reporters security groups I also get the warning 7012 from the event log that says the same thing. 2nd error: Cannot connect to 'WSUS'. The server may be using another port or different Secure Sockets Layer setting. What I have tried: So far I have configured IIS for Anonymous Authentication on both the WSUS Administration and ApiRemoting30 using an account will call WSUS_User. With this in place, I get the 1st error. When I do this though, the local WSUS Console cannot be used either. Reverting back to only Windows Authentication allows the local console to work, but the remote console now give the 2nd error. I have confirmed the port, and that there is no SSL in use (which is a policy that is pushed from above, that I cannot effect). I have placed WSUS_User in the groups mentioned above, but it still does not connect. I made sure WSUS_User has full access on C:\Program Files\Update Services and C:\Program Files\Update Services\WebServices I am not very familiar with the workings of WSUS or IIS, and have gone as far as I can figure out on my own. Googling these errors all take me to the same steps about Anonymous Authentication and configuring permissions on folders. Note: I have cross-posted this to StackOverflow as well.

• XCode linking error when targeting armv7.

  I've already spent countless hours puzzling over this, utilizing Google searches and other Stack Overflow questions to no avail. I have an iPhone/iPad universal application, which seems to compile fine when the target is armv6. However, when the device is iPad, I get this warning: warning: building for SDK 'Device - iPhone OS 3.2' requires an armv7 architecture. Oddly enough, the app still runs great on iPad in spite of this warning. However, I do want to do things the "right way" what ever that means in this case. When I switch the target architecture to armv7, I get linking errors: "___restore_vfp_d8_d15_regs", referenced from: *redacted* "___save_vfp_d8_d15_regs", referenced from: *redacted* ld: symbol(s) not found collect2: ld returned 1 exit status The "redacted" portions of the errors are references to the static library to which I'm trying to link. Here's what I've tried from the many suggestions online. Each of these were suggested more than once without any explanation, which leads me to believe nobody quite understands this problem: "Never use the drop down menu in the upper left of the XCode window to choose the target. Instead, set this to Base SDK and then the Base SDK to iPhone OS 3.0 in the target configuration. Set the target device to your preferred target (iPad, iPhone OS 3.2 in my situation.)" This yields the error "Library not found for -lcrt1.3.1.o" "Make sure that GCC isn't linking against the wrong version of the standard library. (You'll have to make sure the LIBRARY_SEARCH_PATH doesn't have the wrong path in it.)" My LIBRARY_SEARCH_PATH is already empty, so this doesn't seem relevant. "Try compiling with GCC 4.0 rather than GCC 4.2." I get a syntax error inside a UIKit header file. The error is "Syntax error before 'AT_NAME' token." The line is "UIKIT_EXTERN @interface UILocalizedIndexedCollation : NSObject." Another project compiles just fine with the same target settings, which is really making me question my sanity. Could I be dealing with a corrupt XCode project? If anyone knows what's actually happening and has a reference or doesn't mind explaining it, I would be so very grateful. Cheers!

Now that I have it set up, it doesn't work when I try to connect off the local network. I realize that there must be some networking/routing that I need to do since it's running on a virtual machine.
