• "DNS not responding" error with D-Link router and PPTP internet connection

  I have a D-Link DIR-615 router since around six months. My internet connection is VPN (PPTP) based, i.e. I have been given a username and password from my ISP and my IP address is dynamic. Since a few days I am experiencing a serious problem. My router connects normally (I can see the yellow light), but my computer is giving me a "DNS not responding" error. I have tried everything (reset, reboot etc.) but no success.

• Error in joining 4 AVI files

  I have 4 avi files. Each file can be played properly in VLC player, Windows media player. Video-Audio Codec type in each of this avi file is Xvid-Mpga. I used below avi joiners: Quick AVI joiner, AVI join, BoilSoft Video Joiner(trial version), but all of them gave an error when i select the first part avi file saying : "format of the part1.avi file cannot be recognized".. What could be the problem. How do i join these AVI files. Any pointers will help. Thanks. -AD.

• HTTP 401 error in Windows Authentication disappears after swapping Providers

  The IIS 7 on Windows 2008 R2 is acting really weird. We deploy our web apps as web sites with appcmd.exe. After they are deployed, if I browse to them, I'll get HTTP 401 errors. The web sites are only have Windows Authentication enabled and the providers are Negotiate and NTLM in such order. But if I swap the providers, the HTTP 401 error goes away. Even if I swap it back, the errors are still gone. So the order of the providers doesn't seem to matter, what matters is the swapping. It must have triggered something. Even if we delete the web site and application pool and reinstall the web sites, the errors are still gone. So far, we can't reproduce it easily since it happens randomly. Has anyone experienced this? How do I go about to troubleshoot it?

  Hi! I have a Win2K3 machine which I want to access via remote desktop. When I try remote desktop on another machine the session just ends as soon as it attempts connection. I never see the log-on sceeen or anything. It just returns to the remote desktop connection dialog. I have checked the service on the target machine and it's up and running, so how can I determine the error? Is there any way to re-install terminal services and see if it just fixed?

• Installing ruby 1.9.1 on OS X with RVM, getting error I can't make sense of

  I'm trying to update my ruby install on Leopard to at least 1.9.1. I found a tutorial that tells me how to do it with RVM and I get as far as downloading, configuring and compiling the version I want, but during the compile I get errors.   We get this error from out citrix server: Your user profile was not loaded correctly! You have been logged on with a temporary profile. Changes you make to this profile will be lost when you log off. Please see the event log for details or contact your administrator. I am well aware there is a workaround by Citrix, that can be found here, but that doesn't permanently fix our issue. It seems to come back. Any idea why that happens? Any suggestions on how to fix it? Citrix version is 4.5 running on Windows 2003 x32 EDIT 14.IX.2012 @ 16.03 CT I am sorry, let me clarify, it happens to some users, not all and not all the time.

• Error accessing other groups files in apache

  I am using Cloud9 IDE on my server, which creates files with default permission 640. As a result when I try to open those file via HTTP, apache shows permission denied error. When IDE is running as root user, files created belong to root:root. Also, when I see as what user is apache running, all its processes are shown to be running as root user. I cannot understand why still it cannot access files. I know if I add apache's user to group of file owner, it will work. But, I don't know which user to add. PS: I don't want to change permission of each file I create. I want less troubling solution.

  I have the same problem with this topic! How to resolve BackgroundContainer.dll error on startup? The thing is i did everything that says in answer but i)I found nothing when i started regedit.exe and searched (F3 or CTRL+F) for BackgroundContainer.dll ii)I made a full scan with AntiVirus Scanner like Microsoft Security Essentials/ Defender and also i scaned my PC with Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware,but i found nothing. • Getting error code -41 when copying files to external drive

  I'm having trouble copying some files from my mac to an external hard drive: I keep getting the nondescript "error code -41". I noticed some of the files with an additional "@" permission bit had the "com.apple.quarantine" flag set. I used the "xattr" command from this article What should I do about com.apple.quarantine? to take care of the quarantine flag and sort that out (these files were copied over from another mac on my network, so I guess OS X flagged them as quarantine). That took care of the problem for those files but I still have some that I can't manually copy over to the external drive. The only other thing I've noticed is that some of these files have a an extra permission bit: "drwxr-xr-x+" which I haven't been successful in googling. Aside from that I don't see anything else. Also, Disk Utility says everything's fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Ubuntu dual boot and grub error 18

  I've attempted to install 9.04 on an older toshiba laptop with a new 300GB drive and am getting the dreaded Grub error 18 that indicates that grub is looking beyond the bios readable area of the HD and failing. I just let ubuntu roll with its default selections when installing and ended up with this: Drive layout /dev/sda1 -ntfs 128GB -boot /dev/sda2 -extended 170GB -lba /dev/sda5 -ntfs 167.59GB /dev/sda6 -ext3 2.33GB /dev/sda7 -linux-swap 172MB I'd like make the system dual bootable without having to reinstall windows (real pain since I would have to go through an obstructionist IT dept). I know I can make windows bootable with a rescue disk and fixmbr but is there something I can do to make it dual bootable using the ubuntu livecd? Alternately, what should I have done at the partition stage of ubuntu installation to avoid this?

• Internal Server Error when using eForm with ModX

  One of our clients is using modx v.0.9.6.3 with eForm. They also have their own exchange server and web hosting is done through us. We used the eForm v.1.4.4.5 to send out emails. However, they cannot get any emails from this form and when addressed to [email protected] it instantly gets to 500 Internal Server Error when the form is submitted. Note: the eForm is successfully sent when the receiver is anyone but the client. I have successfully received the email form report from a work email, and also personal email.

  I made a website on which i need to be able to upload video files and it has worked for quite a while. However after a while it just stopped working and now it will give me the following IIS error message when i upload a video. Images do work (possibly due to their smaller size). I use an html form with PHP server sided script to upload. I have already set the user permissions for the entire inetpub to allow all actions for the IIS user.   I have a network drive mapped to a share on a Window Server 2003. I have a shortcut to this drive stored in my Windows 7 favorites. When I double click the shortcut and then rename a file on the drive, if the file is longer than 8 chars or contains spaces then I get this error The drive that this file or folder is stored on does not allow long file names, or names containing blanks or any of the following characters:... If I get to the network drive by click on it in the tree under computer then it works fine. Is there a way to get round this?

  I have setup WDS on Windows 2008 server in a Vmware box so I can practise setting up WDS,the server has DNS and DHCP as well as AD, the boot image is confirmed as working but when my clients try to boot up it does not work. I have checked the following: Clients can ping the WDS server. The WDS service is started Boot images for X86 and X64 are deployed. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\WDSServer\Providers\WDSPXE UseDhcpPorts has been set to 0 My clients just receive Error: PXE-E53: No boot filename received.   When running any sudo command from Jenkins I get the following error: sudo: no tty present and no askpass program specified I understand that I can solve this by adding a NOPASSWD entry to my /etc/sudoers file which will allow user jenkins to run commands without needing a password. I can add an entry like this: %jenkins ALL=(ALL)NOPASSWD:/home/vts_share/test/sudotest.sh ...but this leads to the following issue: how to avoid specifying full path in sudoers file? I can add an entry like this: %jenkins ALL=NOPASSWD: ALL ...but this allows user jenkins to avoid the password prompt for all commands, which seems a bit unsafe. I'm just curious what my options are here, and if there are any best practices I should consider.

  Hello I am using Xmail server at IP 65.75.241.26 hosted at www.softmail.me using which I can send and receive email to/from all email service providers but unable to receive back from Gmail. This error lies only with Gmail. Experts says that Gmail requires proper working MX records where as for other emailing providers do not bother much. Is MX records the solution for my problem? When the download is about to complete, i was ask to reboot the computer, i click "OK". after my computer restart , there was a pop out say "AVG Installer- Error A system restart is required in order to continue with the installation. Please restart your system and try again." Since the only option was "OK" i click it, and restart my computer. After restarting, the same pop-out appear.   So I've managed to setup bind9 and a mail server, but it seems there is something wrong. I don't quite under stand this error: The configuration of your mail servers and your DNS are not ok! The report of the test is: mail.domain.com. - mail.domain.com - 208.xxx.xxx.xxx - lisa.domain.com Spam recognition software and RFC821 4.3 (also RFC2821 4.3.1) state that the hostname given in the SMTP greeting MUST have an A record pointing back to the same server. Can anyone explain this to me in a bit more detail, and maybe point me in a direction to solve this?

• greengeeks drupal install imagemagik 'path /usr/bin/convert' does not exists error

  I just signed up with greengeeks. I have a drupal install (6.19) on my public_html directory. The ImageMagic Toolkit can't find the binary - the error I get is "the path /usr/bin/convert" does not exist. when I use a terminal and do 'which convert' it shows /usr/bin/convert also, I have a second drupal install in an addon domain - it's home directory is above the public_html directory (in a directory called '/home/myusername/addons/seconddomain') The drupal install in the addon domain finds the imagemagick binary just fine. I am at a total loss as to why the original install cannot find the binary. The tech support guys at greengeeks have no clue either. Any ideas of things to try?

  After installing Ubuntu 12.04, I'm trying to mount a samba share from Windows under Linux, using a scripted command that's always worked, and the server hasn't changed. The error is as follows: $ mount -t cifs //<host>/<share> /media/<share> -o username=<user>,password=<pass> mount: block device //<host>/<share> is write-protected, mounting read-only mount: cannot mount block device //<host>/<share> read-only $ I've read a lot of discussions about permissions, but unfortunately, that wasn't the issue. I'm submitting my own answer below for reference, hope this helps someone else.

• Error 1069 the service did not start due to a logon failure

  Our CruiseControl.NET service on Win2003 Server (VMWare Virtual) was recently changed from a service account to a user account to allow for a new part of our build process to work. The new user has "Log on as a service" rights, verified by checking Local Security Settings - Local Policies - User Rights Assignment, and the user password is set to never expire. The problem I'm facing is every time the service is restarted, I get the 1069 error as described in this questions subject. I have to go into the properties of the service (log on tab) and re-enter the password, even though it hasn't changed, and the user already has the appropriate rights. Once I enter the password apply the changes, a prompt appears telling me that the user has been granted log on as a service rights. The service will then start will no problems. Not a show stopper, but a pain none-the-less. Why isn't the password persisting with the service?
