• Trigger event on click except for checkbox + label

  I have a table row, which triggers an event when clicked. There are (not displayed) checkbox + its styled label inside the row. What i want is to prevent (i guess with :not or .not() but cant figure it out) the execution if checkbox/label is clicked. • LoaderLock was detected, and turning off the warning does not help

  I am trying to write an application that takes in sound from the default audio recording device on a computer. When running any code that accesses DirectX from my managed code i get this error: DLL 'C:\Windows\assembly\GAC\Microsoft.DirectX.DirectSound\1.0.2902.0__31bf3856ad364e35\Microsoft.DirectX.DirectSound.dll' is attempting managed execution inside OS Loader lock. Do not attempt to run managed code inside a DllMain or image initialization function since doing so can cause the application to hang. DevicesCollection coll = new DevicesCollection(); and Device d = new Device(DSoundHelper.DefaultCaptureDevice); and Capture c = new Capture(DSoundHelper.DefaultCaptureDevice); all cause the LoaderLock MDA to pop up and tell me there is a problem. I have scoured the internet (stackoverflow included) for solutions to this problem, but most people just say to turn off the warning, which does not work. When I turn off the warning, a generic ApplicationException is thrown, which is even less useful. I have seen the answers to this question as well, which didn't help because he said to remove the code that is causing the error. Others have said "fix your code." My questions are: how can I call any (preferably managed) DirectX code from C# without getting this error?

• Entity Framework with MySQL - Timeout Expired while Generating Model

  I've constructed a database in MySQL and I am attempting to map it out with Entity Framework, but I start running into "GenerateSSDLException"s whenever I try to add more than about 20 tables to the EF context. An exception of type 'Microsoft.Data.Entity.Design.VisualStudio.ModelWizard.Engine.ModelBuilderEngine+GenerateSSDLException' occurred while attempting to update from the database. The exception message is: 'An error occurred while executing the command definition. See the inner exception for details.' Fatal error encountered during command execution. Timeout expired. The timeout period elapsed prior to completion of the operation or the server is not responding. There's nothing special about the affected tables, and it's never the same table(s), it's just that after a certain (unspecific) number of tables have been added, the context can no longer be updated without the "Timeout expired" error. Sometimes it's only one table left over, and sometimes it's three; results are pretty unpredictable. Furthermore, the variance in the number of tables which can be added before the error indicates to me that perhaps the problem lies in the size of the query being generated to update the context which includes both the existing table definitions, and also the new tables that are being added to it. Essentially, the SQL query is getting too large and it's failing to execute for some reason. If I generate the model with EdmGen2 it works without any errors, but the generated EDMX file cannot be updated within Visual Studio without producing the aforementioned exception. In all likelihood the source of this problem lies in the tool within Visual Studio given that EdmGen2 works fine, but I'm hoping that perhaps others could offer some advice on how to approach this very unique issue, because it seems like I'm not the only person experiencing it. One suggestion a colleague offered was maintaining two separate EBMX files with some table crossover, but that seems like a pretty ugly fix in my opinion. I suppose this is what I get for trying to use "new technology". :(

The problem is that I am not able to use performSelector:onThread:withObject:waitUntilDone: method with a thread that I' instantiated for this. UPDATE: I don't need this multithreading for separating costly operations to another thread. In this case I could use the performSelectorInBackground as mentioned in few answers. The main reason for this separate thread is the need to perform all the actions in the API (TTS by Loquendo) from one single thread. Meaning that I have to create an instance of the TTS object and call methods on that object from the same thread all the time.

  I am implementing instrumentation within an application and have encountered an issue where the value that is displayed in Windows Performance Monitor from a PerformanceCounter is incongruent with the value that is recorded. I am using a Stopwatch to record the duration of a method execution, then first i record the total milliseconds as a double, and secondly i pass the Stopwatch's TimeSpan.Ticks to the PerformanceCounter to be recorded in the Performance Monitor. Creating the Performance Counters in perfmon: var datas = new CounterCreationDataCollection(); datas.Add(new CounterCreationData { CounterName = name, CounterType = PerformanceCounterType.AverageTimer32 }); datas.Add(new CounterCreationData { CounterName = namebase, CounterType = PerformanceCounterType.AverageBase }); PerformanceCounterCategory.Create("Category", "performance data", PerformanceCounterCategoryType.SingleInstance, datas); Then to record i retrieve a pre-initialized counter from a collection and increment: _counters[counter].IncrementBy(timing); _counters[counterbase].Increment(); ...where "timing" is the Stopwatch's TimeSpan.Ticks value. When this runs, the collection of double's, which are the milliseconds values for the Stopwatch's TimeSpan show one set of values, but what appears in PerfMon are a different set of values. For example... two values recorded in the List of milliseconds are: 23322.675, 14230.614 And what appears in PerfMon graph are: 15.546, 9.930 Can someone explain this please?

  Hey there, when trying to implement an Aspect, that is responsible for catching and logging a certain type of error, I initially thought this would be possible using the AfterThrowing advice. However it seems that his advice doesn't catch the exception, but just provides an additional entry point to do something with the exception. The only advice which would also catch the exception in question would then be an AroundAdvice - either that or I did something wrong. Can anyone assert that indeed if I want to catch the exception I have to use an AroundAdvice? The configuration I used follows: @Pointcut("execution(* test.simple.OtherService.print*(..))") public void printOperation() {} @AfterThrowing(pointcut="printOperation()", throwing="exception") public void logException(Throwable exception) { System.out.println(exception.getMessage()); } @Around("printOperation()") public void swallowException(ProceedingJoinPoint pjp) throws Throwable { try { pjp.proceed(); } catch (Throwable exception) { System.out.println(exception.getMessage()); } } Note that in this example I caught all Exceptions, because it just is an example. I know its bad practice to just swallow all exceptions, but for my current use case I want one special type of exception to be just logged while avoiding duplicate logging logic.

• Visual Studio 2010 Crashes when Creating or Editing a Report (.rdlc) with the Report Designer

  This is an issue I had with VS 2010 RC and was hoping would be solved with the first official release. Sadly it wasn't. What I have is a number of reports originally created with VS 2008. When opening any of these for editing in VS 2010's Report Designer VS hangs for about two minutes and then shuts down. Same happens when creating a new report using the wizard. Only difference is that a dialog opens up showing a "Loading ..." message then hangs for about the same amount of time and crashes. Running devenv /log gives nothing of value.   I have N people who must each take T exams. Each exam takes "some" time, e.g. 30 min (no such thing as finishing early). Exams must be performed in front of an examiner. I need to schedule each person to take each exam in front of an examiner within an overall time period, using the minimum number of examiners for the minimum amount of time (i.e. no examiners idle) There are the following restrictions: No person can be in 2 places at once each person must take each exam once noone should be examined by the same examiner twice I realise that an optimal solution is probably NP-Complete, and that I'm probably best off using a genetic algorithm to obtain a best estimate (similar to this? http://stackoverflow.com/questions/184195/seating-plan-software-recommendations-does-such-a-beast-even-exist). I'm comfortable with how genetic algorithms work, what i'm struggling with is how to model the problem programatically such that i CAN manipulate the parameters genetically.. If each exam took the same amount of time, then i'd divide the time period up into these lengths, and simply create a matrix of time slots vs examiners and drop the candidates in. However because the times of each test are not necessarily the same, i'm a bit lost on how to approach this. currently im doing this: make a list of all "tests" which need to take place, between every candidate and exam start with as many examiners as there are tests repeatedly loop over all examiners, for each one: find an unscheduled test which is eligible for the examiner (based on the restrictions) continue until all tests that can be scheduled, are if there are any unscheduled tests, increment the number of examiners and start again. i'm looking for better suggestions on how to approach this, as it feels rather crude currently.

  I have been using eclipse-pdt in conjunction with xdebug and apache without problems, for over one year. Things worked flawlessly and I could do all the interactive debugging I wanted from within eclipse (using my own machine as a server). Now I switched from apache to nginx (and therefore PHP runs now not as an Apache service but as fast-cgi) and I can't find a way to configure eclipse to work nicely with xdebug. I am neither sure if the problem is with xdebug or with eclipse (or both) to be sure. In the eclipse configuration I already changed the reference to the PHP configuration file to /etc/php5/cli/php.ini. Attempts with php.ini version 1 With the following php.ini file zend_extension=/usr/lib/php5/20060613/xdebug.so I see that xdebug is working (for example if I do a var_dump() I get the xdebug version of it, not the plain PHP one) I can't have the interactive debugging from eclipse: the browser opens up and loads the page completely with the typical URL containing ...?XDEBUG_SESSION_START=ECLIPSE_DBGP&KEY=..., but the program execution does not stop at breakpoints In the bottom-right corner of eclipse I see a suspicious message: *"Launching =put_the_name_of_my_project_here=: 57%"* that alternates with the "refreshing workspace" one.   I am trying to make a custom control in WPF. I want it to simulate the behavior of a LED that can blink. There are three states to the control: On, Off, and Blinking. I know how to set On and Off through the code behind, but this WPF animation stuff is just driving me nuts!!!! I cannot get anything to animate whatsoever. The plan is to have a property called state. When the user sets the value to blinking, I want the control to alternate between green and grey. I'm assuming I need a dependency property here, but have no idea. I had more xaml before but just erased it all. it doesn't seem to do anything. I'd love to do this in the most best practice way possible, but at this point, I'll take anything.   As per the thread title I want to programmatically set the ContextKey of an AutoComplete Extender placed in a gridviews footer row. Background is I have a data model that has Territory and Journey Plans for those territories. Customers need to be added to the journey plans but only those customers that belong to the Territory that owns the Journey Plan. In the footer row of my grid I have added a textbox which allows a user to enter account code of customer. Attached to this textbox is an autocomplete extender. I need to do a select against the db for customers with account code like prefix where customer in territory. But there is no way to provide territory id. • Instantiate an .aspx that is an embedded resource of an assembly

  I have an ASP.NET (MVC) application in which I would like to load WebForms .aspx files that are embedded as resources in 3rd party assemblies. The reason I want to do this is to make a sort of "plug-in" system where a .dll file can be dropped in a folder and then picked up at runtime to provide additional functionality to the base application. I've gotten the plugin system to work (I'm using MEF) with plugins written in ASP.NET MVC (Views and Controllers), but for plain old ASP.NET (Pages), I've got myself into a bit of a problem. For the execution of the embedded .aspx file (which, in the usual WebForm way Inherits="My.BasePage") I've created a custom VirtualPathProvider, ResourceFile ControllerFactory and PageController. Within the PageController I've overridden the Execute(RequestContext) method and within it I'm trying to compile the .aspx with BuildManager.CreateInstanceFromVirtualPath(virtualPath, type). When doing this, I get the error message "Could not load type 'My.BasePage'", even though I'm giving the BuildManager the System.Type of My.BasePage in the call to CreateInstanceFromVirtualPath. I seem to be stuck at this point. I've tried to Server.Transfer() to the custom VirtualPathProvider handled URL to the same .aspx file, but that fails with the same error message. How can I help BuildManager find out where My.BasePage is defined and how come the Type requiredBaseType parameter of CreateInstanceFromVirtualPath seems to be ignored? I've tried to call BuildManager.AddReferencedAssembly(), but that only fails with "This method can only be called during the application's pre-start initialization stage". MSDN says: "The method must be called during the Application_PreStartInit stage of the application", but I have no such event in my HttpApplication object and find absolutely zero information about it on the internet. Either way, I don't want to be calling BuildManager.AddReferencedAssembly() in or before the Application_Start event, since that makes me have to recycle the whole application to be able to add new plugins to the system. Does anyone have any clues? Any other ideas on how I can "execute" an .aspx file that is embedded as a resource within an assembly through reflection? Can I for instance pre-compile the .aspx file within the same assembly as the base Page class it inherits?

  I'm trying to implement a ping to an xmlrpc server written in PHP under CodeIgniter. The system currently works as expected when receiving pings from WordPress-based blogs, but I'm unable to generate a successful ping from Rails. • Synchronizing Asynchronous request handlers in Silverlight environment

  For our senior design project my group is making a Silverlight application that utilizes graph theory concepts and stores the data in a database on the back end. We have a situation where we add a link between two nodes in the graph and upon doing so we run analysis to re-categorize our clusters of nodes. The problem is that this re-categorization is quite complex and involves multiple queries and updates to the database so if multiple instances of it run at once it quickly garbles data and breaks (by trying to re-insert already used primary keys). Essentially it's not thread safe, and we're trying to make it safe, and that's where we're failing and need help :). But instead they all seem to be running and conflicting with each other in the verifyClusters method. One solution would be to force our front end calls to be made synchronously. And in fact, when we do that everything works fine, so the code logic isn't broken. But when it's launched our application will be deployed within a business setting and used by internal IT staff (or at least that's the plan) so we'll have the same problem. We can't force all clients to submit data at different times, so we really need to get it synchronized on the back end. • How good is Dotfuscator Community Edition? What is "good enough obfuscator"?

  I plan to release one small, low priced utility. Since this is more hobby than business, I planned to use Dotfuscator Community Edition that is shipped with VS2008. How good is it? I could also use definition of "good enough obfuscator" - what features are missing from Dotfuscator Community Edition to make it good enough. Edit: I checked pricing on number of commercial obfuscators and they cost a lot. Is it worth it? Are commercial versions that much better protecting from reverse engineering? I'm not very afraid of my application being cracked (it will be disappointing if application is so bad that no one is interested in cracking it). It's not heavily protected anyway, not overly complex serial key and licence checks on few places in code. It just bugs me that without obfuscation, somebody can easily get source code, rebrand it and sell it as its own. Does this happens a lot? Edit 2: Can somebody recommend commercial obfuscator. I found lots of them, all of them are expensive, some even don't have price listed on web site. Feature wise, all products seem more or less similar. What is minimal set of features obfuscator should have?

  I've little experience with advanced OO practices, and I want to design this properly as an exercise. I'm thinking of implementing the following, and I'm asking if I'm going about this the right way. I have a class PImage that holds the raw data and some information I need for an image file. The trivial/inelegant solution would be to have a lot of messy control flow that identifies the type of image file (.gif, .jpg, .png, etc) and then parse the header accordingly. Instead of using vector<char> data_, I was thinking of having PImage use a class, RawImageStream data_ that inherits from vector<char>. Each type of file I plan to support would then inherit from RawImageStream, e.g. RawGifStream, RawPngStream. Each RawXYZStream would encapsulate the respective header-parsing functions, and PImage would only have to do something like height_ = data_.getHeight();. Am I thinking this through correctly? How would I create the proper RawImageStream subclass for data_ to be in the PImage ctor? Is this where I could use an object factory? Anything I'm forgetting?
