• How and when is old-releases.ubuntu.com updated?

  The old-releases.ubuntu.com mirror hosts the repositories for EOL Ubuntu releases. The main page currently lists up to 11.10 (or 12.04.3 if you count point upgrades), but the dists page lists up to 13.04. Why the discrepancy? When will the main page be updated? When will the newest EOL release (13.10) be shifted here? I'd like documentation backing up answers, please. • Oracle Solaris Events at Oracle OpenWorld 2012

  When Oracle OpenWorld kicks off at the end of this month, it will mark the third year that we've participated as an integrated part of Oracle. (In 2009 we were there in "coming soon!" mode, which was an interesting experience in itself.) As in the last few years, we've got lots of sessions related to Oracle Solaris, which you can see on the Focus On Oracle Solaris page: hands-on labs, sessions on multiple topics, two Oracle Solaris general sessions, and demos. We'll also have an Oracle Solaris and System Partner Pavilion, where you can see what other companies are doing to leverage the new features in Oracle Solaris 11.   I finished building a website for an online chess club which I am a member of. This is my first website. The site has blogging feature so the members can log in and write blog posts and comment on other posts. The membership is limited to users of an online chess site (freechess.org) and any member of that site can join this site as well. I was wondering, is it needed to put up a terms and conditions for my new website? If so, can I have a model of that? I searched and found some models but they are all for big sites that have e-commerce etc.

• Fitting an established site into a CI framework

  I manage a rather large, feature full nightmare of a site which has no end of feature creep settings/options/etc. Up to now its been coded in a procedural/functional way and would like to move to an OO,MVC setup. I'm quite new to it all but have done alot of research and feel that CodeIgniter is a code choice of framework to use to help quicken the transfer. Before looking at a framework, I started constructing a list of objects to create classes out of: photos users forum topics forums blogs blog posts comments The trouble I have now, is I do understand where these generic/universal objects fall into the CI MVC setup. What is the best way to organise this kind of stuff? These classes can generally be used on multiple models/views/controllers.

• Yet another GlassFish 3.1.1 promoted build

  Promoted build #9 for GlassFish 3.1.1 is available from the usual location. This is the "soft code freeze" build with only the "hard code freeze" build left before the release candidate. So if you have bugs you'd like to see fixed, voice your opinion *now*. As a quick reminder, GlassFish offers Web Profile or Full Platform distributions in ZIP or installer flavors (some more details in this blog post from last year but still relevant). If you've installed previous promoted builds or simply have the "dev" repository defined, then the Update Center will simply update the existing installed bits. In addition to the earlier update on 3.1.1 it's probably safe to say that this version was carefully designed to be highly compatible with the previous 3.x versions, thus leaving you with little reasons not to upgrade as soon as it comes out this summer.

  Go ahead, laugh. I forgot to remove the default admin/admin account on my blog. SOmebody got in and has replaced my homepage with some internet graffiti. I've used .htaccess to replace the page with a 403 error, but no matter what I do, my wordpress homepage is this hacker thing. How can I setup my server so that ONLY MYSELF can view it while I'm fixing this via .htaccess? What steps should I take to eradicate them from my server? If I delete the ENTIRE website and change all the passwords, is he completely gone? Thanks.

• Covering Yourself For Copyrighted Materials [on hold]

  I was thinking about developing a small community website where people of a certain profession can register and post their own blogs (Which includes an optional photo). I then got to thinking about how people might use this and the fact that if they are given the option to add a photo, they might be likely to use one that they simply find on Google, another social network or even an existing online blog/magazine article. So how do I cover myself from getting a fine slapped on me and to make it purely the fault of the individual uploader? I plan on having an option where the user can credit a photo by typing in the original photographers name & web link (optional) and to make them tick a check box stating that the post is their own content and that they have permission to use any images but is that enough to cover myself? How do other sites do it?

This would be useful for people who want to use the Pi as a general-purpose computer, with multiple large applications running concurrently, and would enable some interesting embedded use cases (particularly using Java) which are slightly too heavyweight to fit comfortably in 256MB.The downside of this suggestion for us is that we’re very attached to $35 as our highest price point.   Hm ... you might ask yourself why there are no Oracle Database 12c slides available for download, neither in the OOW 2012 content system nor on our blog (and I believe nowhere else). Simple reason: As long as Oracle Database 12c is not released and available we are not allowed to offer slides for download. Therefore people were simply taking pictures during the 12c sessions with their phones, iPods and cameras. Roy took a nice shot: Sorry for that - we'll make the content available as soon as Oracle Database 12c gets released. In between you can download our OOW 2012 talk Database Upgrades on Steroids: Real Speed, Real Customers, Real Secrets as PDF (3.4MB) - but the 12c content is currently not in that PDF. But a lot of information applies to your source database and/or to any upgrade - so it still might be helpful.
