• A datastructure for Robotic Sort

  I am trying to solve this problem : https://www.spoj.pl/problems/CERC07S/ I have identified that i need a datastructure in which reversing operations have lesser time complexity. I tried to create one using a doubly linked list, in which (i thought) reversing can be done in O(1) by just changing a value associated with the starting and ending node which indicates the direction of traversing the list. I tried to implement it but got stuck. Maybe the approach is wrong! Are trees applicable here? If yes, how? Any ideas or links are appreciated? Thanks in advance.

• How do you create multiple versions of an ActiveX control?

  Hopefully this is a straightforward question, but googling has proved fruitless (and frustrating, to say the least). Links to good documentation would be greatly appreciated. Here's the problem. We have a web application with an associated ActiveX control. (The control wraps a crufty old MFC application if it matters.) Moving forward, we expect to release multiple versions of this application, and each will have a corresponding version of the control. If someone accesses two versions of the web application, then that user should end up with two different versions of the control on his system. (The controls should play nice and not clobber each other.) In addition, I want to automate this process. Our system has a global version number that applies to all components. If we change the version number, the next build should produce a new version of the control. What's the best way to do this?

  Python is compiled into an intermediate bytecode(pyc) and then executed. So, there is a compilation followed by interpretation. However, long-time Python users say that Python is a "late-binding" language and that it should`nt be referred to as an interpreted language. How would Python be different from another interpreted language? Could you tell me what "late-binding" means, in the Python context? Java is another language which first has source code compiled into bytecode and then interpreted into bytecode. Is Java an interpreted/compiled language? How is it different from Python in terms of compilation/execution? Java is said to not have, "late-binding". Does this have anything to do with Java programs being slighly faster than Python? Itd be great if you could also give me links to places where people have already discussed this; id love to read more on this. Thank you.

• C++ library for Coordinate Transformation Matrices (CTM)?

  I'm looking for a C++ library which allows for easy integration of Coordinate Transformation Matrices (CTM) in my application. You might know CTMs from PDF or PostScript. For one project we are using C++/Qt4 as a framework, which offers a QTransform class, which provides methods like .translate(double x, double y) or .rotate(double degrees). After doing some transformations, it would allow me to get all 6 CTM values, which I could feed into a PDF library or use a transformation matrix in export files. Qt's API also allows for arbitrary mapping of polygons (QPolygon), rectangles (QRect) and other primitive data structures into transformed coordinate systems. So basically I'm looking for something similar to what Qt provides, but without the need of using Qt. I know I could do the matrix multiplications myself, but I'm not really interested in doing so, as I'm very sure that someone already solved this problem, so please no links to books or other guides on how to multiply matrices. • [Three20] How to adjust width of TTStyledTextLabel ?

  Hi I am implementing an IM app on iOS. I found that three20 library has a TTStyledTextLabel which provides cool features like showing images and url links. However I want to embed the TTStyledTextLabel in a message bubble (just like the sms app shipped with iphone does), where I need the label to adjust its size according to the text length. I found that TTStyledTextLabel can adjust its height according to its width, but I don't know how to make it shrink horizontally when the text is very short and can't fill up a whole line. Any suggestions?

• Link to pdf within app

  I've got an iOS app that at one point opens a link to a website in a webview. These links are kept in a plist file (so it is easy to maintain them as the app evolves). What I want to do next is to also link to PDF's (or any picture of text file format, of even a html format, this is flexible) that are kept within the app. And I would like to do this as much as possible from within the existing app structure. So, is it possible to create a link that can be put in the plist as a web-link, but instead opens a file on the device itself (possibly in the webview)? And how would I go about that? Any ideas? • wordpress servlet mapping not working

  I have the latest wordpress running in tomcat 6.0.26 virtual host with Quercus Servlet php servlet. It works, except when I try to use perm links. A url such as /index.php/my-page-name doesn't seem to ever hit the php server. It gets a browser error that request resource is not available. It's like it isn't matching the servlet urlmapping. I'm using a standard method in the web.xml <servlet-mapping> <servlet-name>Quercus Servlet</servlet-name> <url-pattern>*.php</url-pattern> </servlet-mapping> I see nothing showing up either in the tomcat logs when I use that url above. Any ideas please?

• Redirect failing - "...will never complete"

  I am trying to redirect a blog page to a newly updated page. The old entry is gone, but it is indexed in Google, and other people have links to it. I get this error: "The page isn't redirecting properly" "Firefox has detected that the server is redirecting the request for this address in a way that will never complete." The (deleted) link looks like this: "http://mysite.com/blog/?p=158" I want to redirect that to "http://mysite.com/blog/?p=194" I used CPANEL to do a permanent (301) redirect. (I have other redirects working.) I gues the ? is causing a problem. How do I fix it so the page redirects? (Please give instructions for CPANEL - the server has Frontpage extensions, and I don't bother with re-researching how to do it manually - the multiple files that need updated.)

• How do I make the Drupal-Core Forum display only to members, and ask for login details otherwise

  I'm trying to create a website, that has a menu based on Primary Links on the top of the site. The one menu item is for a 'Members Forum'. I want this menu item visible to all users (Anonymous/Authorized), but if an Anonymous user clicks on the item, instead of displaying "Access Denied", I'd prefer to show a custom message "such as please login to access the forum". If an Authorized user clicks it, obviously I want them to go straight to the page. In the Forum module, I've set up a container for the forum that is only viewable for Authorized users, so that when an Anonymous user clicks the menu item, they get the Access Denied error.   I’m looking for a solution to send DRY multipart emails in Rails. With DRY I mean that the content for the mail is only defined once. I’ve thought about some possible solutions but haven’t found any existing implementations. The solutions I’ve thought about are: load the text from I18n and apply Markdown for the html mail and apply Markdown with a special output type for the text mail where links are put in parenthesis after the link text bold, italic and other formatting that doesn't make sense are removed ordered and unordered lists are maintained generate only the html mail and convert that to text according to the above conditions Is there any available solution out there? Which one is probably the better way to do it?

• Using PUT/POST/DELETE with JSONP and jQuery

  I am working on creating a RESTful API that supports cross-domain requests, JSON/JSONP support, and the main HTTP method (PUT/GET/POST/DELETE). Now while will be easy to accessing this API through server side code , it would nice to exposed it to javascript. From what I can tell, when doing a JSONP requests with jQuery, it only supports the GET method. Is there a way to do a JSONP request using POST/PUT/DELETE? Ideally I would like a way to do this from within jQuery (through a plugin if the core does not support this), but I will take a plain javascript solution too. Any links to working code or how to code it would be helpful, thanks.

• Strategy for developing a multi function asp.net web application

  I'm about to start a new project and want some advice on how to implement. I need a web application which contains a booking module for reserving timeslots, and a time management module which will enable employees to clock in / clock out. If I am writing an update to the time managment module, I don't want to disrupt the booking engine availability by releasing a new solution containing both modules. to make things more difficult, there is some shared functionality like common users, roles and security. Here's a suggestion I've gotten, which sounds a bit cruddy, but may be functional. Write a 'container' web application which consists of basically a frame, and authentication / security features. This then has links which, will load the 2 independantly built and released web applications into the frame. I can see that say, if I wanted to update the time management module, I would only need to build and release this separately, and the rest of the solution would be 'untouched' Any better alternatives?

• 302 Redirect to Images in IE8 do not render image

  I am helping migrate a legacy application. One of the requirements is we are able to handle requests for old images. What we have is: New site on new.com Old site on old.com Images to links (imported content) point to /imgs/cat.png however the actual image is hosted on old.com/assets/images/cat.png (for now). <img src="/imgs/cat.png"/> I setup a redirect for all png, jpg, jpeg, gif that 302's requests for new.com/imgs/(.*).(png|jpg|jpeg|gif) to http://old.com/assets/images/$1.$2 Everything works find in Chrome, Firefox and IE9 - however it was noted in IE8 the image does not render. Its possible that it has the same issue in IE7, 6 and 5.5 however I have not been able to test this. Does anyone know why this is happening and how to fix? I tried setting the contentType header on the response of the 302's to image/(png|jpg|jpeg|gif) and this did not have any impact. Any insight would be appreciated.

• AS3: Removing EventListeners without knowing amount or names

First shortly about how my site works: When a link is clicked it checks if something is already displayed in either the Left or Right side of the screen (the website looks like a book, so I have a left page I want to display information on and a right page). If there is already something showing it hides it and displays the new object, together with this it enables all the buttons within that object (I have separate functions to set up each object). An example of such an EventListener would be: pathTo.Button1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, function():void {showText(side, object)}); What I'm trying to do is to remove all the previous set EventListeners without having to create separate functions for removing the links inside every object as well. Shorter version: How do I remove all EventListeners on all objects inside another object? The only variable I want to store is the object containing everything. There are however not always EventListeners within the objects.

  hi guys, im new in codeigniter. i have a project running perfectly in my localhost. when i deployed, my links seem to be broken. e.g. mysite.com displays the homepage without any error. now, i have a link let's say an about us link e.g. mysite.com/main/about where main is my controller and about is my function. the problem is the about us link is broken e.g. "Oops! • Render asp.net repeater as-and-when chunks of html is ready (streaming)

  The problem is to render huge reports. Basically we have lots of data that get rendered in html reports (mostly using repeater or gridview). As it so happens, the data started out small and now we have tons of it. There are lots of such reports already built so total rewrite is not an option. Heck, the business is not even letting us page the data. Now server memory is shooting up each time we try to render some reports. So the question is - is there some way we can bind data to repeater and have it stream html to browser as and when chunks are ready? That way we hope to not bring all that data into app server at once. I'm thinking we'll use a datareader or something to get parts of data and render it to browser. Any pointers, links, ideas?

• Using GET instead of POST to delete data behind authenticated pages

  I know you should use POST whenever data will be modified on a public website. There are several reasons including the fact that search engines will follow all the links and modify the data. My question is do you think it is OK to use GET behind authenticated pages in something like an admin interface? One example would be a list of products with a delete link on each row. Since the only way to get to the page is if you are logged in, is there any harm in just using a link with the product ID in the query string?

• Install windows service without InstallUtil.exe

  Hi, I'm trying to deploy a windows service but not quite sure how to do it right. I built it as a console app to start with, I've now turned it into a windows service project and just call my class from the OnStart method in the service. I now need to install this on a server which doesn't have Visual Studio on it, which if I've understood it correctly means I can't use the InstallUtil.exe and have to create an installer class instead. Is this correct? I did have a look at a previous question, http://stackoverflow.com/questions/255056/install-a-net-windows-service-without-installutil-exe, but I just want to make sure I've understood it correctly. If I create the class that question's accepted answer links to, what is the next step? Upload MyService.exe and MyService.exe.config to the server, double click the exe file and Bob's my uncle? The service will only ever be installed on one server. Thanks, Annelie

• cross-platform frameworks for storage + metadata?

  I don't quite know what to use for terminology, so bear with me... Are there any cross-platform frameworks out there that facilitate a kind of "virtual file storage" to encapsulate adding files along with a database of metadata? I'm thinking about something along the lines of iTunes or iPhoto, where the program manages a whole bunch of files (in those cases audio or image files) and has a database of metadata so you can organize/find those files easily. I'd like to cobble together something along those lines for files in general. edit: I am hesitant to store files in a database alone, e.g. MySQL, as there would be potentially tens of gigabytes in my application (this issue has been mentioned in several SO posts, see this one that gives several links to others). I'm looking at CouchDB though and maybe it has promise....
