• Image processing in a multhithreaded mode using Java

  Hi Folks, I am supposed to process images in a multithreaded mode using Java. I may having varying number of images where as my number of threads are fixed. I have to process all the images using the fixed set of threads. I am just stuck up on how to do it, I had a look ThreadExecutor and BlockingQueues etc...I am still not clear. What I am doing is, - Get the images and add them in a LinkedBlockingQueue which has runnable code of the image processor. - Create a threadpoolexecutor for which one of the arguements is the LinkedBlockingQueue earlier. - Iterate through a for loop till the queue size and do a threadpoolexecutor.execute(linkedblockingqueue.poll). - all i see is it processes only 100 images which is the minimum thread size passed in LinkedBlockingQueue size. I see I am seriously wrong in my understanding somewhere, how do I process all the images in sets of 100(threads) until they are all done? Any examples or psuedocodes would be highly helpful Thanks! • Does C99 guarantee that arrays are contiguous ?

  Following an hot comment thread in another question, I came to debate of what is and what is not defined in C99 standard about C arrays. Basically when I define a 2D array like int a[5][5], does the standard C99 garantee or not that it will be a contiguous block of ints, can I cast it to (int *)a and be sure I will have a valid 1D array of 25 ints. As I understand the standard the above property is implicit in the sizeof definition and in pointer arithmetic, but others seems to disagree and says casting to (int*) the above structure give an undefined behavior (even if they agree that all existing implementations actually allocate contiguous values). More specifically, if we think an implementation that would instrument arrays to check array boundaries for all dimensions and return some kind of error when accessing 1D array, or does not give correct access to elements above 1st row. Could such implementation be standard compilant ? And in this case what parts of the C99 standard are relevant.

• How to get window opened/closed/minimized messages from a native app?

  It's tough to write a good title for this one. I'm working on a WPF application which needs to know about the existence of all other open windows on the system. I'm able to do this by calling the native EnumWindows method just fine, and I can call other native methods to filter out just the windows I'm interested in. This works well. The problem I'm having is that I want to know when a window is opened or closed (and, ideally, minimized). I can do this by polling with EnumWindows, but I'm finding that to be pretty slow, even if I push it off to another thread. Is there a better way to get notifications of window opened/closed/minimized? Keep in mind that my knowledge of non-managed code is pretty limited.

  Hello, I have a problem reading OWL/XML files from Java using Jena. • How to build a setup package for a desktop application using SQL CE 3.5 and Entity Framework?

  I am having a WPF desktop application that uses SQL CE (compact edition 3.5 ) and using the Entity Framework as a Datalayer. As It turned out in (http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;958478&sd=rss&spid=2855 ) and (http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/sqlce/thread/b6bac277-cf66-4c74-a0b3-e48abedbd161/ ) There Is some problem with the Entity Framework and SQL CE and I had to get the hotfix (basically a new build of the SQL CE called 3.5.1) My problem now is how to build a setup package in order to make it work in case some users already had the SQL CE 3.5 installed on their machines? I have included the DLLs directly in the application but when the sql ce is installed, its DLLs are in the GAC and have precedence over the local ones and the application crashes. I need the build a setup that would work "even if" the user already had the old buggy version.

  Suppose I have a VFM full of both focusable and non-focusable fields. Since most of them are spread out far apart, the movement from one focused field to another is jerky at best, even with NullFields in between. In other words, it just sets the current y position to the next focused field without smoothly scrolling the screen. What I want to achieve is to be able to scroll at a fixed rate between fields, so it it doesn't just focus from one to another that instantaneously. After reading up on how to do this, it is a matter of overriding moveFocus and setting it via a TimerTask from an accessor method to set moveFocus, as per this link. However, I haven't seen a practical implementation of how to do this, complete with the routines that are called in the TimerTask's thread. Is there any way to achieve this type of behavior?

• Eclipse Problems View doesn't show Errors

  [Note: There is another thread about this problem but it did not answer the question.] For one specific project in Eclipse, the problems view does not show errors. It shows warnings but it does not show errors. The other projects do show errors (and everything else). For that problematic project, I can see the red squiggly error line in the files. However, the directory structure does not show an error icon and the error is not populated in the Problems View. Any ideas?

• Caching generated QR Code

  I use zxing to encode a qr code and store it as a bitmap and then show it in ImageView. Since the image generation time is significant I'm planning to move it to a separate thread (AsyncTaskLoader will be fine I think). The problem is - it's an image and I know that to avoid memory leaks one should never store a strong reference to it in an Activity. So how would you do it? How to cache an image to survive config changes (phone rotation) and generally avoid generating it onCreate()? Just point me in the right direction, please.

According to leiningens sample project.clj ;; Dependencies are listed as [group-id/name version]; in addition ;; to keywords supported by Pomegranate, you can use :native-prefix ;; to specify a prefix. This prefix is used to extract natives in ;; jars that don't adhere to the default "<os>/<arch>/" layout that ;; Leiningen expects. Question 1: What does that mean?
