• How do I wait until a console application is idle?

  I have a console application that starts up, hosts a bunch of services (long-running startup), and then waits for clients to call into it. I have integration tests that start this console application and make "client" calls. How do I wait for the console application to complete its startup before making the client calls? I want to avoid doing Thread.Sleep(int) because that's dependent on the startup time (which may change) and I waste time if the startup is faster. Process.WaitForInputIdle works only on applications with a UI (and I confirmed that it does throw an exception in this case). I'm open to awkward solutions like, have the console application write a temp file when it's ready.

• Can I use android.os.* libraries in a standalone project?

  I'm trying to develop an external library (not sure if that's the right term) to provide prepackaged functionality in Android projects. Working in Eclipse, I've added the appropriate android.jar file to the build path, and everything is happy both while editing and upon compilation. However, when I use Android's Handler and Message classes (android.os.Handler, android.os.Message) for inter-thread communication, I get exceptions unless I'm running within an Android app, on the emulator or a device. I can no longer test my library in a "standalone" way without having to go through a running Android target. Is there any way for me to include these two Android classes and still be able to test my library standalone? Do I need to have the Android source available? Or would it require some sort of conditional compilation hand-waving?

  Hi folks, I am new to django. I am trying to use django.contrib.comments, I saw the table in the database like this, but how can I integrate it with user_id, user_photos, user_name, user_email....and those things with the django commenting system? I also tried to use thread-comments, but I can't configure it properly, is the django threadedcomments table similar to following ? Please let me know if any of you have done this before....all I need is a user login, and post comments, and then show list of comments with users' profile photos and username, as well as there comments. I think shouldn't be that hard. • CodedUI null reference exception even when object exists

  Hi, I have created a coded ui test that checks something in my software. It worked fine, but now I keep getting null reference exception when I try to interact with the UITestControl. The starnge thing is, that the UITestControl's 'Exist' property returns true, which means that the control had been found. I've searched and found this topic: http://social.msdn.microsoft.com/Forums/en/vsautotest/thread/c2e6e5c3-2503-4506-9963-733fd84fbd25, But I have checked in my project, and the 'Copy Local' propert of these assemblies is set to false. I think that this execption first occurred after I have added an app.config file to my project. Maybe this might be the problem? If so, how can I fix this without deleting my app.config file? • memory usage in C# (.NET) app is very high, until I call System.GC.Collect()

  I've written an app that spins a few threads each of which read several MB of memory. Each thread then connects to the Internet and uploads the data. this occurs thousands of times and each upload takes some time I'm seeing a situation where (verified with windbg/sos and !dumpheap) that the Byte[] are not getting collected automatically, causing 100/150MB of memory to be reported in task manager if I call System.GC.Collect() i'm seeing a huge drop in memory, a drop of over 100MB I dont like calling System.GC.Collect() and my PC has tons of free memory. however if anyone looks at TaskManager they're going to be concerned, thinking my app is leaking horribly. tips?

I would create the class car. Every car has his own color, position and so on. And I could create the road with an array. But how to tell the car where to go? Could I hear your ideas?   I have developed the application for windows mobile 5.0 and .net compact framework 2.0 sp2. This application communicates to the hardware device using serial port. This application works fine in windows mobile 5.0 based PDAs. I have handled data received event to get the data from serial port. But when I run my application on windows mobile 6.1 and .net compact framework 3.5, my application hangs on serial port close API call. There are many workarounds mentioned in the .net compact framework blog like (closing the com port on different thread, opening the port in the beginning of the application and close once application exists, polling for data instead of event handling), but nothing is working consistently.

It is getting called when a user swipes, adds or rearranges, but I would like to call it manually/directly as a background thread changes my model. • Killing COM object from C#

  I have a COM object that we are calling from C#. This works great, and I have my own pool of objects that I can use whenever I want. Now I need to kill the object. I've tried releasing the COM object explicitly and then garbage collecting from another thread, but that does nothing. Does anyone have any other ideas to kill this object? Thanks for the help. • Python threads all executing on a single core

  I have a Python program that spawns many threads, runs 4 at a time, and each performs an expensive operation. Pseudocode: for object in list: t = Thread(target=process, args=(object)) # if fewer than 4 threads are currently running, t.start(). Otherwise, add t to queue But when the program is run, Activity Monitor in OS X shows that 1 of the 4 logical cores is at 100% and the others are at nearly 0. Obviously I can't force the OS to do anything but I've never had to pay attention to performance in multi-threaded code like this before so I was wondering if I'm just missing or misunderstanding something.   Hello Stackoverflow Users, Today I've tested the Kohana3, which has been changed a lot. I'm working so much with the Auth Module, and need this in my new Project also. Now I found a Bug, I think it is a bug, what can I do? Problem: After I'm deleting a user from the Database, who is at this Moment logged_in() in my Website, and he is refreshing the page, he will be logged_in() as the first user out of the PRAEFIX_users Table. Even if he is deleted. And 99% this is an Administrator. • Safe HttpContext.Current.Cache Usage

  Hello there, I use Cache in a web service method like this : var pblDataList = (List<blabla>)HttpContext.Current.Cache.Get("pblDataList"); if (pblDataList == null) { var PBLData = dc.ExecuteQuery<blabla>( @"SELECT blabla"); pblDataList = PBLData.ToList(); HttpContext.Current.Cache.Add("pblDataList", pblDataList, null, DateTime.Now.Add(new TimeSpan(0, 0, 15)), Cache.NoSlidingExpiration, CacheItemPriority.Normal, null); } I wonder is it thread safe? I mean the method is called by multiple requesters And more then one requester may hit the second line at the same time while the cache is empty. So all of these requesters will retrieve the data and add to cache. The query takes 5-8 seconds. May a surrounding lock statement around this code prevent that action? (I know multiple queries will not cause error but i want to be sure running just one query.)

• Have the default security settings changed in Windows 7 that would affect IPrincipal.IsInRole?

  We use NTLM auth in our application to determine whether a user can perform certain operations. We use the IPrincipal of their current Windows login (in WinForms applications), calling IsInRole to check for specific group memberships. To check that a user is a local administrator on the machine, we use: AppDomain.CurrentDomain.SetPrincipalPolicy(PrincipalPolicy.WindowsPrincipal); ... bool allowed = Thread.CurrentPrincipal.IsInRole(@"Builtin\Administrators") This works if the current user is the Administrator user, or is another user that is a member of the Builtin\Administrators group. In our testing on Windows 7, we have found that this no longer works as expected. The Administrator user still works fine, but any other user that is a member of the Builtin\Administrators group returns false for the IsInRole call. What could be causing this difference? I have a gut feeling that a default setting has changed somewhere (possible in gpedit), but cannot find anything that looks like the culprit.

• Sharing Jinja2 templates between Pylons and Django applications

  I'm writing a couple of Jinja2 templates that basically implement some common grid layouts. I'd like to be able to share this 'library' of templates between a Pylons app and Django app. I've hit a minor stumbling block in that Django's template context is accessible from the "top-level" of the template, whereas Pylons wraps your context inside the thread local c (or tmpl_context) variable. Here are some analogous examples that demonstrate this. Django from django.shortcuts import render_to_response ctx = {} ctx['name'] = 'John' return render_to_response('hello.html', ctx) hello.html: Hello {{ name }} Pylons from pylons import tmpl_context as c from myapp.lib.base import render c.name = 'John' return render('hello.html') hello.html: Hello {{ c.name }} What I'm trying to do is make it so that hello.html is the same across both frameworks. One way I see to do it is by wrapping the Django render_to_response and do something like this: ctx['c'] = ctx But that just doesn't feel right. Anybody see other alternatives to this? Thanks
