    I want (have) to write a Silverlight and (or) ASP.NET based webapplication with SAP in the backend (the usage of Silverlight and ASP.NET is a precondition) Is it possible to use the WCF RIA Services (and Silverlight) where the data-source are RFCs from SAP ? Makes this sense ? If yes, how the pattern/architecture could be shortly described ? Or should I take other architectures into considerations (usage of plan WCF services, WCF data services,...) ?

    I would like to know the number of users logged into my ASP.NET 2.0 application. Points to be considered: 1) Simplest way would be to use Application or Cache object to have the counts on Session start or end. However this would fail if there is a worker process recycle. Wouldn't it? 2) Should't make a difference whether the session is inproc/state server managed/ or SQL server managed. 3) Should preferably be seamless to a web-farm architecture.

    hi, I want to learn hadoop. However, I don't have access to a cluster now. Is it possible for me to learn it and use it for writing programs and learn it properly. Would it be helpful to run multiple linux VMs and then use them as boxes to run hadoop? Or you think that is more of a stretch and running it on a multiple hosts is the same as running in on single host (in terms of setup, Hadoop API used, the architecture of the map-reduce programs etc) Thanks,

    Dear All, I need to parallelize a CPU intensive Java application on my multicore desktop but I am not so comfortable with threads programming. I looked at Scala but this would imply learning a new language which is really time consuming. I also looked at Ateji PX Java parallel extensions which seem very easy to use but did not have a chance yet to evaluate it. Would anyone recommend it? Other suggestions welcome.   • Android: Quitting the Looper?

    I have a thread I use to periodically update the data in my Activity. I create the thread and start a looper for using a handler with postDelay(). In onDestroy() for my activity, I call removeCallbacks() on my handler. Should I then call handler.getLooper().quit()? Or not worry about it and let the OS deal with it? Or would it just run forever then, consuming CPU cycles?

    I am working on a solution that used DDD for architecture. I have a property in my ViewModel which points to a ValueObject, the view model also implements INotifyPropertyChanged interface. The value of the ValueObject will change as a user enters data on the front end. The problem I am running into is the value object is suppose to be immutable. How can I work around this issue? After paying a huge amount for a database, doing all the processing including batch at the app server and not using the power of the database seems to be a waste. I have a difficulty in convincing people that we need to use best of both worlds.

    Hi, I have a Microsoft LifeCam HD-5000 webcams. According to AMCap, the camera outputs a MJPEG stream at 30fps at 720p. I want to capture each JPEG frame in a small application without doing any preview or decompression/transcoding to minimize CPU utilization to the minimum possible. I'm a C# developer, but I'm new to DirectShow. Is there a simple way to capture the MJPEG stream frame by frame as its output from the camera in C#/.NET without decompressing it?

    I understand this is a subjective question and very likely could be closed, and although there is no right or wrong answer I do believe its a legitimate question. At what point do you no longer consider someone a beginner (ie knowledge of loops, encapsulation, instantiation), an intermediate (design patterns, reflection, delegates, interfaces) or an expert (architecture, multi-threadding). My rational for asking such a question is two-fold, first, when do I stop labeling my questions as beginner and during a job interview how should I categorize myself?

    With a customer web site we currently experiences performance problems. While analyzing the problem we found an unexpected amount of of 112 "Memory Hard Faults" per minute. Does anybody can interpret the meaning of this value? Does this happen, when memory swapping is necessary - so the root cause is not sufficient memory? Even if the CPU value seems high, it is not the main problem for the slow web site. Do you agree?

    I have an unmanaged DLL with a function that can run for a long time if the input parameter is a large value, sometimes that is desirable but not always. How can I in c# call this function so that I can abort it when needed? So far I have tried to put the call in a separate thread, but neither interrupt nor abort seem to stop the process, which runs at 100% CPU until the dll is done. Is it possible to terminate the running dll code?

Assuming that the service is scarcely used, does anyone know how many cpu hours that would eat up in a month just by sitting there and running?     I've been looking into writing a web app that will run on Google App Engine, but before I commit myself to the platform I'd like to know what, if any, limitations there are. I'm aware of the basic CPU/bandwidth restrictions that Google places on the free service, but I'm wondering more about development restrictions like how BigTable compares to a standard relational database and what Python libraries aren't available on the GAE platform (and what alternatives Google provides). Basically I'm looking for any hidden roadblocks before I commit to the platform. Thanks for your help!
