• How to monitor screen updates?

  I am trying to write a program that monitors when the screen has been redrawn. Meaning if any part of any window is redrawn, then the program is notified. As far as I understand I should use a journal record hook like at http://www.vbaccelerator.com/home/vb/code/libraries/Hooks/Journal_Record_Hooks/article.asp However, I do not understand which MSG type would get me the WM_PAINT events (WH_CALLWNDPROC and WH_CALLWNDPROCRET do not seem to do the job). I'm not even sure that WM_PAINT is what I'm looking for... Basically, if I knew when the DC associated with GetDesktopWindow() has changed then my problem would be solved. Question is: How do you monitor screen updates?

  Is there a set of open standards technologies that I can use to achieve the same way of development as in Flex and Sivlerlight? I am talking about componentization, separation of concerns, rich graphics, states and effects . Please point out some tutorials and other resources if possible. P.S. I KNOW that this is technically possible, so please do not respond by sending google search results or general JQuery tutorials. I've seen those already. I need to know how a Flex / Silverlight developer could design and implement an application in roughly the same way (imagine a rich HTML tag set, much like XAML/MXML, behind which stands JavaScript responsible for handling events and business logic. • Mac OS X pygame input goes to Terminal instead of Python

  I'm having trouble running a pygame based app on Mac OS X via Terminal. Input events such as keystrokes go to the Terminal instead of my Python app, and are detected by pygame. For example, I have the following test script: import pygame pygame.init() screen = pygame.display.set_mode((640, 480)) done = False while not done: pygame.event.pump() keys = pygame.key.get_pressed() if keys[pygame.K_ESCAPE]: done = True if keys[pygame.K_SPACE]: print "got here" Neither K_ESCAPE nor K_SPACE will be handled by this script when I run it from a Mac OS X Terminal, but Terminal will echo back the spaces. I'm running the MacPorts port of pygame (py-game), which depends on Python 2.4, and I've also used python_select to make python24 the active version.

The warning I get when I run this is that coord and icoord are unused, but I used them in the viewDidLoad implementation, is there a reason why this does not work?   0 vote down star I am using GridView in asp .net and editing data with edit command field property (as we know after updating the edited row, we automatically update the database), and I want to use transactions (with begin to commit statement - including rollback) to commit this update query in database, after clicking in some button (after some events for example), not automatically to insert or update the edited data from grid directly to the DB...so I want to save them somewhere temporary (even many edited rows - not just one row) and then to confirm the transaction - to update the real tables in database... Any suggestions are welcomed... • How to debug .net error where message is masked in Ajax call

  Hi, I'm currently working on a page which makes use of the MS Ajax UpdatePanel. However I've run into a strange problem. If I simply compile and view my page, one of the button click events results in an error. However, because the button affects items inside an UpdatePanel the actual exception is hidden from me: all I'm getting is a HTTP 500 error returned to me through the UpdatePanel Javascript. What's odd about this is that if I step through the code line by line in Visual Studio, I don't get the error. The button doesn't cause the behaviour I'm expecting, but it throws no errors. Because the step through isn't causing an error to be thrown, I'm at a loss how I can get to the actual exception message so I can find out where the error is being thrown and debug it. What sort of interface would it be?Is it all about using a MOM(message-oriented middleware) like JMS and deploying it withing an application server on a website using publish/subscribe model?Is it the correct way how to meet these sort of requirements?And if it's not a web-based interface,would kind of interface would it be then for the users? • Ms Access Save record in subform

  I have a main form with a tab control containing multiple subforms. I need to be sure that the data in a subform is saved when the user switches tabs. The problem is that DoCmd.RunCommand acCmdSaveRecord seems only applies to the current form so it doesn't save the data in the subform. I have tried different events on the subform such as deactivate, OnLostFocus etc but they don't fire until another field somewhere else gets the focus. The ideal solution would seem to be to put something on the OnChange event of the tab control to be sure that all the data is saved. That is my question, how to do I save the record in a subform?

  I'm playing around with building a new web application using DB4O - piles of fun and some really interesting stuff learned. The one thing I'm struggling with is DB4O's current lack of support for stateless applications (i.e. web apps, mostly) and the need for automatically-generated IDs. There are a number of creative and interesting approaches that I've been able to find that hook into DB4O's events, use GUIDs rather than numeric IDs or for whatever reason avoid using any system of ID at all. While each approach has its merits, I'm wondering if the less-elegant approach might equally be the best fit. Consider the following pseudo-code: If ID == 0 or null Set ID = (typeof(myObject)).Count myObject.Save It seems like such a blindingly simple approach, it's usually about here that I start thinking, "I've missed something really obvious". • UIWebViewNavigationTypeLinkClicked event not getting fired for certain links

  Hi, I am using a UIWebView as an embedded browser within my iphone app. I am using the shouldStartLoadWithRequest function to handle UIWebViewNavigationTypeLinkClicked events for links clicked by a user. It is working as expected for a number of sites, but not for all. For example: when I click on any of the links on website http://www.foxnews.mobi, the UIWebViewNavigationTypeLinkClicked event is not getting fired. Same thing happens for some other sites. I read somewhere that links with blank target do not fire the event, however this is not the cause of the problem in my case. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

  I have an IKImageBrowserView that I want to be able to pinch-zoom using a multi-touch trackpad on a recent Mac laptop. The Cocoa Event Handling Guide, in the section Handling Gesture Events says: The magnification accessor method returns a floating-point (CGFloat) value representing a factor of magnification ..and goes on to show code that adjusts the size of the view by multiplying height and width by magnification + 1.0. This doesn't seem to be the right approach for zooming IKImageBrowserView, whose zoomValue property is clamped between 0.0 and 1.0. So, does anyone know how to interpret the event in -[NSResponder magnifyWithEvent:] to zoom IKImageBrowserView?

• Strategy for unsubscribing event handlers

  In my WPF application I have a View that is given a ViewModel, and when given this View it adds event handlers to the ViewModel's PropertyChanged event. When some action occur in the GUI I remove the View and add another View to the holding container - where this new one is bound to the same ViewModel. After this has happened the old View still keeps handling PropertyChanged events in the ViewModel. I'm assuming this happens because the View hasn't been collected by the Garbage Collector yet, and therefore is alive? Well - I need it to stop. My assumption is that I need to manually detach the event handler from the ViewModel? Is there a best-practice on how to handle this?

• iPhone Text entry with completion and DONE button (not search)

  Using iPhone SDK 3.0, I wish to allow text entry with (optional) completion options that appear as typing is occurring, i.e. also allowing freeformat entry. As such I am using a UISearchBar (which has the text change events) and a UISearchDisplayController to present options. The problems is I want the DONE button to say DONE and not SEARCH, however I cannot find a way to set that. Clearly I feel I am missing something, or Interface Builder of the SDK API would have some property to set. I have seen other apps (in the store) that have achieved the result I want (free format entry, completion, DONE button) so maybe there is an alternative approach I am missing. • Ctrl+Click / Command+Click not working with analytics

  Hi All, I created my own analytics for my site to track outbound click events using jquery. Now the thing with preventDefault() is that it does not allow for the Ctrl+Click or COmmand+click operation in the browser to open the link in new tab/window. So my solution was to detect e.metaKey || e.ctrlKey and use window.open. This does not work very great with safari unless the user changes browser behavior. I am wondering if anyone here knows what other analytics users do - like how does google etc deal with this problem in tracking outbound links? • DataGridView lags for a second with large data updates

  I have a DataGridView with about 400 rows and 10 columns. When the user first displays this table, it receives all of the data from the server and populates the table. The DGV uses a DataTable as it's data source, and when updating the DataTable I use row.BeginEdit/EndEdit and acceptChanges, but when the View itself is updated it lags for a second while all of the DGV is being updated. I am wondering if there is a way to make this smooth, so that for example, if the user is scrolling through the data and it updates, it won't interrupt the scrolling. Or if the user is moving the display around the screen and it updates, it won't interrupt. Is there an easy way to do this? If not, is there away to prevent the DGV from updating the view until all events have ended so it won't be repainted until the user stops scrolling, dragging, etc ?

• How does the momentum/inertial scroll work with the Magic Mouse on NSScrollView?

  When you scroll with the newer Apple Magic Mouse (at least on 10.6, I can't confirm any previous Mac OS) you get inertial scroll like scrolling on iPhone (that is, after a flick of the finger to scroll, it doesn't abruptly stop, but instead gradually slows down). This behaviour is "for free" with all NSScrollViews, it would appear. There are exceptional cases, such as Tweetie for Mac (I've heard Tweetie was written with a custom Table View class that works akin to how UITableView works on iPhone). My question is, how do the scroll views know how to do this inertial scrolling? My guess is the mouse [driver] repeatedly sends scroll events with a dampening scroll magnitude (or something like that) over the scroll period. But I'm not really sure how it works. I am having some scrolling problems in my scrollview class and I'm trying to figure out why (obviously we don't have the source code to Tweetie to see why it doesn't get the proper scrolling), but just trying to better understand how it works in order to fix my own problems.

  Hi everyone, I'm working on establishing a two-way communication between an Activity and a Service which runs in a different process. Querying the process from the Activity is no big deal. But I want the process to notify the Activity on events. The idea behind it is this: the service runs independently from the actual app. It queries a webserver periodically. If a new task is found on the webserver the process should notify the activity. I found this thread over at AndDev.org but it doesn't seem to work for me. I've been messing around with BroadcastReceiver. I've implemented an interface which should notify the Activity but the problem is that the listener is always null since the Broadcast from the process is done via Intent, hence the class that extends BroadcastReceiver will be newly instantiated. How can I establish a 2-way communication? This has to be possible. Thanks for any help, steff

  Hello again, I was doing some reading and have even gotten a "master" SPI working on my microcontroller. Here is my question, basically if the master wants to initialize a write to the slave we write to the SSPBUF, how do we control what the slave responds with? The datasheet doesn't seem really clear to me the order of events in that case. I.E. Master puts a char into the SSPBUF, this initiates the SPI module to send data to the slave, during the shift, the slave returns a byte. In the slave side, is there something that tells you you have incoming data, and you can write to your SSPBUF first, THEN accept the data? OR Do you have to write to the SSPBUF the first "return value" you want sent back before the master can have an opportunity to initiate a transfer?

  I have a text box on a web page, whose value I want to send to a XMLHttpRequest. Now I want the user to just type the value, without pressing a button. But If i just send the request int he keyboard events, it will fire every time a key is pressed.
