  • What can I use to set up a 100% cloud based python IDE + Hosting environment?

    I'm working a side project and I can't always be on "my" machine to code/deploy the web application. I am aware of various cloud IDEs (e.g., Cloud 9 IDE) and independent Django/Flask etc., hosting services (e.g., Heroku). What is the best way to completely shift my development/deployment environment to the cloud so that I can code/deploy from anywhere? I don't mind using paid services but I'm not sure which cloud IDEs play nice with which hosting services. Has anyone tried this setup before? What has or hasn't worked? I want to minimize the manual intervention in 'connecting the two services' as much as possible. I'm going to be using Django, MySQL and Redis for the web-app

  • Test Doubles : Do they go in "source packages" or "test packages"?

    I've got a couple of data access objects (DefaultPersonServices.class, DefaultAddressServices.class) which is responsible for various CRUD operations in a database. A few different classes use these services, but as the services requires that a connection is established with a database I can't really use them in unit tests as they take too long. Thus, I'd like to create a test doubles for them and simply do FakePersonServices.class and FakeAddressService.class implementations which I can use throughout testing. Now, this is all good (I assume)...but my question relates to where I put the test doubles. Should I keep them along with the default implementations (aka "real" implementations) or should I keep them in a corresponding test package. The default implementations are found in Source Packages : com.company.data.services. Should I keep the test doubles here too, or should the test doubles rather be in Test Packages : com.company.data.services?

The line exporter.setParameter(JRPdfExporterParameter.PDF_JAVASCRIPT, "this.print({bUI: true,bSilent: false,bShrinkToFit: true});"); adds JavaScript to send the PDF document directly to the printer. The expected behavior is that a print dialog will come up with a preview of the PDF document. This works fine most of the time - except I am having problems about one out of every 5-6 times in Internet Explorer 8 and Firefox. What happens is - the print preview dialog with the PDF document does not appear or it appears with a blank document in the preview window. -I've tried a number of different JavaScripts (different params to this.print() via exporter.setParameter -I've tried setting different response headers such as response.setContentType("application/pdf"); response.setHeader("Content-disposition","inline; filename=\"" + reportName + "\""); response.setContentLength(baos.size()); these did not seem to help This seems to be an IE and FF issue. Has anyone ever dealt with this problem? I need to get it to work across all browsers 100% of the time. Perhaps a different approach to accomplish the goal of sending the PDF document export directly to the printer? or a third party library that will work across browsers?

  • My Brother printer doesn't accept quality settings anymore - what can I do?

    I have a Brother MFC-465CN network printer. It uses the brother-cups-wrapper-bh7 and brother-lpr-drivers-bh7drivers. Now, when I print (which works perfectly fine) I try to print in "fast normal" settings to save some ink. I use LibreOffice and Ubuntus default PDF-viewer to print and set the settings in the print dialog manually. "Fast normal" is the default printing setting (in the Ubuntu GUI printing config). But the printer always prints in "normal" or even "fine" quality settings which takes forever and uses much more ink. So, what can I do about that? Thanks for your help in advance!

    You’ve likely heard about how Office 365 and Windows Intune are great applications to get you started with Cloud Computing. Many of you emailed me asking for more info on what Cloud Computing is, including the distinction between "Public Cloud" and "Private Cloud". I want to address these questions and help you get started. Let's begin with a brief set of definitions and some places to find more info; however, an excellent place where you can always learn more about Cloud Computing is the Microsoft Virtual Academy. Public Cloud computing means that the infrastructure to run and manage the applications users are taking advantage of is run by someone else and not you. In other words, you do not buy the hardware or software to run your email or other services being used in your organization – that is done by someone else. Users simply connect to these services from their computers and you pay a monthly subscription fee for each user that is taking advantage of the service. Examples of Public Cloud services include Office 365, Windows Intune, Microsoft Dynamics CRM Online, Hotmail, and others. Private Cloud computing generally means that the hardware and software to run services used by your organization is run on your premises, with the ability for business groups to self-provision the services they need based on rules established by the IT department. Generally, Private Cloud implementations today are found in larger organizations but they are also viable for small and medium-sized businesses since they generally allow an automation of services and reduction in IT workloads when properly implemented. Having the right management tools, like System Center 2012, to implement and operate Private Cloud is important in order to be successful. So – how do you get started? The first step is to determine what makes the most sense to your organization. The nice thing is that you do not need to pick Public or Private Cloud – you can use elements of both where it makes sense for your business – the choice is yours. When you are ready to try and purchase Public Cloud technologies, the Microsoft Volume Licensing web site is a good place to find links to each of the online services. In particular, if you are interested in a trial for each service, you can visit the following pages: Office 365, CRM Online, Windows Intune, and Windows Azure. For Private Cloud technologies, start with some of the courses on Microsoft Virtual Academy and then download and install the Microsoft Private Cloud technologies including Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V and System Center 2012 in your own environment and take it for a spin. Also, keep up to date with the Canadian IT Pro blog to learn about events Microsoft is delivering such as the IT Virtualization Boot Camps and more to get you started with these technologies hands on.   • Windows Azure v1.7 Spring Release Today&ndash;New Management Dashboard

    Today, Microsoft will be publicly releasing a new version of Azure for public consumption.  The web conference, at http://www.meetwindowsazure.com will be airing at 1 PM PST.  They have already released an update to the Service Dashboard that can be accessed by going to http://manage.windowsazure.com.  I have some images of the new dashboard here that I have gathered and removed any PII from.  Let me know what you think! Tutorial The first thing you get after signing in is the tutorial: Landing After the tutorial completes, you get a screen with services that are active on your account on the left, and a list of ALL services (db/blob/SQL Azure) on the right.  I like the quick access to services across any of my subscriptions: Service Information These are images from a running web site with several roles.  I love how easy they have made many of the features: SQL Azure They have given some great quick functionality for looking at your DB information: Storage Here is the basic information that they give you for any storage accounts you have: Adding Services Super quick and easy to add services with the new UI: Conclusion I am EXCITED!  As you may have seen in the left side of my blog, I am an MCPD in Azure Development, and I must say that I am excited to see Microsoft moving forward with the technology and not letting it stagnate.  After as much as I have fought the other Azure dashboard, I like the friendliness and fluidity of this one. The important thing to note about ALL of the images above: this is HTML, not Silverlight.  The responsiveness is FAST on all of the actions I completed, and I believe that this is a big step forward for Azure… So, what do you think?

    Today Oracle announced the Oracle Java Embedded Suite 7.0. What is the Java Embedded Suite (JES)? It's a middleware stack designed to be run on embedded devices. It's a suite which includes an application server (Glassfish for Embedded Suite), database (Java DB), and web services (Jersey Web Services Framework). Putting these services on the embedded device gives you the ability to provide a set of services at the device point. It also lets you aggregate data at the device point, which you can later sync with your enterprise systems.

  • Network printer problem with 12.04

    I had an HP LaserJet 3030 printer connected to an Ubuntu box. It worked fine with 11.10. I was able to print from Ubuntu as well as from Windows and Mac from the home network. About a month or so ago, I upgraded 11.10 to 12.04, then things started to falling apart. My Windows 7 laptop couldn't print to the printer any more. Today, I installed many updates on 12.04, hoping that would fix the printing problem. Unfortunately, it made the situation much worse. Now not only my Windows 7 laptop won't print, my XP desktop won't print either. Every time I print something from the Windows computer, the Ubuntu box logs an error message in /var/log/samba/log.'machineName' as: _spoolss_OpenPrinterEx: Cannot open a printer handle for printer \\server. It is interesting that it uses the server name as the printer, not the \\server\xyzprinter as the printer name. Anyone had a similar problem? Anyway to work around the problem?

    I have written one web services using Java. Its already live (Up & Running). During development I have SVN(repository) + Jira for task maintenance + Maven for building the web services. Now i have some small update for my web services and i have created that task in Jira and committed the files in svn with respect to Jira-Id after all testing, etc.. Say my web services is used by 10 clients, we did not give our source code to them. Is there any steps/procedure available to release patch/updates? Is there any way to render/create the change log at the build time (maven). How do i manage the change log for all version or Patch updates during build time? (Automatically)

    Today , I try to write a Silverlight app that talks to SharePoint 2010 using the REST API.However after deploy the silverlight app and run the code , I got the following error.In order to fix this I need to make the target framework of your caller application to 4.0,in this case I need to use Silverlight 4.0 instead 3.0.After I have done that and redeploy the solution to the SharePoint.It works like a charm.   Exceptions details: System.Data.Services.Client.DataServiceQueryException: An error occurred while processing this request. Request version ’1.0′ is too low for the response. The lowest supported version is ’2.0′. However , if you got the error like this: Could not load type ‘System.Data.Services.Providers.IDataServiceUpdateProvider’ from assembly ‘System.Data.Services, Version=3.5.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089′,then you need to install ADO.NET Data Services Update for .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 ,you can download here (for windowns 7 and server 2008 r2 ) or here (for windows vista of server 2008).

    I've been trying to get to grasps with Ruby (for all of an hour) and this is my first language. I've got the following code: var_comparison = 5 print "Please enter a number: " my_num = Integer(gets.chomp) if my_num > var_comparison print "You picked a number greater than 5!" elsif my_num < var_comparison print "You picked a number less than 5!" elsif my_num > 99 print "Your number is too large, man." else print "You picked the number 5!" end Clearly the interpreter has no way of distinguishing between accepting the rule 5 or 99. How do I make it so that any number between 6-99 returns "You picked a number greater than 5!", but a number 100 or greater returns "Your number is too large, man!"? Do I need to specifically state a range somehow? How would I best do that? Would it by the normal range methods e.g. if my_num 6..99 or if my_num.between(6..99) ?
