• TypeScript first impressions

  Anders published a video of his new project today, which aims at creating a superset of JavaScript, that compiles down to regular current JavaScript. Anders is a tremendously clever guy, and it always shows in his work. There is much to like in the enterprise (good code completion, refactoring and adoption of the module pattern instead of namespaces to name three), but a few things made me rise an eyebrow. First, there is no mention of CoffeeScript or Dart, but he does talk briefly about Script# and GWT. This is probably because the target audience seems to be the same as the audience for the latter two, i.e. developers who are more comfortable with statically-typed languages such as C# and Java than dynamic languages such as JavaScript. I don’t think he’s aiming at JavaScript developers. Classes and interfaces, although well executed, are not especially appealing. Second, as any code generation tool (and this is true of CoffeeScript as well), you’d better like the generated code. I didn’t, unfortunately. The code that I saw is not the code I would have written. What’s more, I didn’t always find the TypeScript code especially more expressive than what it gets compiled to. I also have a few questions. Is it possible to duck-type interfaces? For example, if I have an IPoint2D interface with x and y coordinates, can I pass any object that has x and y into a function that expects IPoint2D or do I need to necessarily create a class that implements that interface, and new up an instance that explicitly declares its contract? The appeal of dynamic languages is the ability to make objects as you go. This needs to be kept intact. More technical: why are generated variables and functions prefixed with _ rather than the $ that the EcmaScript spec recommends for machine-generated variables? In conclusion, while this is a good contribution to the set of ideas around JavaScript evolution, I don’t expect a lot of adoption outside of the devoted Microsoft developers, but maybe some influence on the language itself. But I’m often wrong. I would certainly not use it because I disagree with the central motivation for doing this: Anders explicitly says he built this because “writing application-scale JavaScript is hard”. I would restate that “writing application-scale JavaScript is hard for people who are used to statically-typed languages”. The community has built a set of good practices over the last few years that do scale quite well, and many people are successfully developing and maintaining impressive applications directly in JavaScript. • C# Dev - I've tried Lisps, but I don't get it.

  After a few months of learning about and playing with lisps, both CL and a bit of Clojure, I'm still not seeing a compelling reason to write anything in it instead of C#. I would really like some compelling reasons, or for someone to point out that I'm missing something really big. The strengths of a Lisp (per my research): Compact, expressive notation - More so than C#, yes... but I seem to be able to express those ideas in C# too. Implicit support for functional programming - C# with LINQ extension methods: mapcar = .Select( lambda ) mapcan = .Select( lambda ).Aggregate( (a,b) = a.Union(b) ) car/first = .First() cdr/rest = .Skip(1) .... etc. Lambda and higher-order function support - C# has this, and the syntax is arguably simpler: "(lambda (x) ( body ))" versus "x = ( body )" "#(" with "%", "%1", "%2" is nice in Clojure Method dispatch separated from the objects - C# has this through extension methods Multimethod dispatch - C# does not have this natively, but I could implement it as a function call in a few hours Code is Data (and Macros) - Maybe I haven't "gotten" macros, but I haven't seen a single example where the idea of a macro couldn't be implemented as a function; it doesn't change the "language", but I'm not sure that's a strength DSLs - Can only do it through function composition... but it works Untyped "exploratory" programming - for structs/classes, C#'s autoproperties and "object" work quite well, and you can easily escalate into stronger typing as you go along Runs on non-Windows hardware - Yeah, so? Outside of college, I've only known one person who doesn't run Windows at home, or at least a VM of Windows on *nix/Mac. (Then again, maybe this is more important than I thought and I've just been brainwashed...) The REPL for bottom-up design - Ok, I admit this is really really nice, and I miss it in C#. Things I'm missing in a Lisp (due to a mix of C#, .NET, Visual Studio, Resharper): Namespaces. Even with static methods, I like to tie them to a "class" to categorize their context (Clojure seems to have this, CL doesn't seem to.) Great compile and design-time support the type system allows me to determine "correctness" of the datastructures I pass around anything misspelled is underlined realtime; I don't have to wait until runtime to know code improvements (such as using an FP approach instead of an imperative one) are autosuggested GUI development tools: WinForms and WPF (I know Clojure has access to the Java GUI libraries, but they're entirely foreign to me.) GUI Debugging tools: breakpoints, step-in, step-over, value inspectors (text, xml, custom), watches, debug-by-thread, conditional breakpoints, call-stack window with the ability to jump to the code at any level in the stack (To be fair, my stint with Emacs+Slime seemed to provide some of this, but I'm partial to the VS GUI-driven approach) I really like the hype surrounding Lisps and I gave it a chance. But is there anything I can do in a Lisp that I can't do as well in C#? It might be a bit more verbose in C#, but I also have autocomplete. What am I missing? Why should I use Clojure/CL?

• Size doesn't matter

  Whenever I start a new project I *always* break up my code in different projects. Also known as n-tier solution. The scale of  the project doesn't matter, but make sure that each project is responsible for himself (or herself if you prefer). I make sure that i ....At least thought about how the project should work on the toilet or in a project team meeting.Have a solution directory and create my projects within. I like to name my project (and it's folders by the namespaces). For instance: When i'm creating a piece of (web)software called: ChuckNorris, i always include the software name in my projects. Start off with designing the DataAccess project. I name it: ChuckNorris.DataAccess which lets me easily identify the project incase the project scales alot.Build the classes which represent the database structure. Don't stop working on a class untill it's finished for now. Also, don't over-do the methods. Build stuff only when it's needed, and not think: "Hm, that would be cool to have". Cause most of the time you end up with unused code, and we don't want that.Build a unittest project and make sure you create the folder inside the project that it's testing. So, create the ChuckNorris.DataAccess.UnitTest project inside the folder of the dataaccess project. I would suggest using the nUnit testframework.Incase you though, hm i skip unittest: Don't! Just build it - it will safe you alot of time later onNow, read 5 again. Build that bloody unittest. Don't skip. (i cant emphasize this enough)Now, every class in the dataaccess project is responsible for itself. They don't rely on each other. This is where we use the BusinessLogic project for. Start creating the ChuckNorris.BusinessLogic project. (not inside the data-access project ofcourse, but withing the ChuckNorris folder.Combine stuff from data-access. This usual involves alot of copying the data-access classes and feels silly at first. (we'll get to that later on)Now you come up to a point of creating a service project. You might not always see why to use it, but see it as a way to expose your businesslogic to any application (including your own). Sometimes i use it as a so-called "Factory". Every call goes through this factory, so that's the only thing i'm exposing to any program, and make sure that those methods are the only ones that I allow you to invoke.Build any UI (website, phoneapp, forms application, silverlight, wpf or whatever) and reference it to you service project. Fall in love (cough) with this approach.It's possible that it doesn't seem to make much sense, and very incomplete. Well, that last part is correct. Next post will go in to detail of setting up your Data-Access project and use the entity framework.

• Is MongoDB a good choice or not for my application?

  I have a Reporting application which stores the reports in xml format as recieved from source (XML schema is not defined, it can be any format) and those reports contain some keys and values. Like jobid, setid be keys for 1 type of report and userid, groupId for another type of report etc. The type of keys that can be referred from the document is determined by the namespaces used in the xml doc. These keys are stored on the basis of namespace used in the xml document. For e.g. If a tag in xml fragment uses namespace= "myspace1", then I have keys A and B for myspace1 stored in another table. It will fetch those keys from that table for this namespace, look for their values in xml doc and store it in another table along with the pointer to this xml document (Id of a record storing complete xml document in a cell). Use cases: When the user comes and queries for that key and value, I return the document or a set of documents that are having those key/value pairs. When the user comes and queries for a certain key and provide a name for xslt (pre stored), I fetch the set of documents fulfilling that criteria and convert that xml to html with the specified xslt. When the user comes and asks for a particular fragment of a doc then it can fetch a subset from a particular document also. When the user comes and queries for top x values of a certain key, I return the set of documents that are having top 10 values of that key. I am using DB2 database for its support of xml along with relational capabilities. That makes easier for me to run xpath expressions and fetch values of keys and also aggregate a set of documents fullfilling a criteria, all on the database side. Problems: DB2 stores XML doc of upto 2GB in size. Retrieval is very slow. If some thing involves many documents, then it takes significant time for things to show up in browser, and the user has to wait. Can MongoDb help in this case, as it is document oriented? can I do xml related xpath queries and document transformations on db side? Or is it ok to use both in such a case?

• Creating a shared library that might be used with desktop applications and web projects

  I have been involved in a number of MVC.NET and c# desktop projects in our company over the last year or so while also managing to kept my nose poked into other projects (in a read-only learning capacity of course). From this I've noticed that across the various projects and teams there is a-lot of functionality that has been well designed against good interfaces and abstractions. Because we tend to like our own work at times, I noticed a couple of projects had the exact same class, method copied into it as it had obviously worked on one and so was easily moved to a new project (probably by the same developer who originally wrote it) I mentioned this fact in one of our programmer meetings we have occasionally and suggested we pull some of this functionality into a core company library that we can build up over time and use across multiple projects. Everyone agreed and I started looking into this possibility. However, I've come across a stumbling block pretty early on. Our team primarily focuses on MVC at the moment and we have projects mainly in 2.0 but are starting to branch to 3.0. We also have a number of desktop applications that might benefit from some shared classes and basic helper methods. Initially when creating this DLL I included some shared classes that could be used across any project type (Web, Client etc) but then I started looking at adding some shared modules that would be useful in our MVC applications only. However this meant I had to include a reference to some Microsoft Web DLL's in order to leverage some of the classes I was creating (at this stage MVC 2.0). Now my issue is that we have a shared DLL that has references to web specific libraries that could also possibly be used in a client application. Not only that, our DLL referenced initially MVC 2.0 and we will eventually move onto MVC 3.0 for all projects. But alot of the classes in this library I expect to still be relevant to MVC 3 etc Our code within this DLL is separated into it's own namespaces such as: CompanyDLL.Primitives CompanyDLL.Web.Mvc CompanyDLL.Helpers etc etc So, my questions are: Is it OK to do a shared library like this, or if we have web specific features in it should we create a separate web DLL only targeted at a specific framework or MVC version? If it's OK, what kind of issues might we face when using the library that references MVC 2 in a MVC 3 project for example. I would be thinking that we might run into some sort of compatibility issue, or even issues where the developers using the library doesn't realize they need MVC 2.0 libraries. They might only want to use some of the generic classes etc The concept seemed like a good idea at the time, but I'm starting to think maybe it's not really a practical solution. But the number of times I've seen copied classes and methods across projects because they are proven tested code is a bit unnerving to be perfectly honest!

• Self-Executing Anonymous Function vs Prototype

  In Javascript there are a few clearly prominent techniques for create and manage classes/namespaces in javascript. I am curious what situations warrant using one technique vs. the other. I want to pick one and stick with it moving forward. I write enterprise code that is maintained and shared across multiple teams, and I want to know what is the best practice when writing maintainable javascript ? I tend to prefer Self-Executing Anonymous Functions however I am curious what the community vote is on these techniques. Update When I asked this question I didn't truly see the importance of what I was trying to understand. The real issue at hand is whether or not to use new to create instances of your objects or to use patterns which do not require constructors of the use of the new keyword. • A Simple Entity Tagger

  In the REST world, ETags are your gateway to performance boosts by letting clients cache responses. In the non-REST world, you may also want to add an ETag to an entity definition inside a traditional service contract – think of a scenario where a consumer persists its own representation of your entity, and wants to keep it in sync. Rather than load every entity by ID and check for changes, the consumer can send in a set of linked IDs and ETags, and you can return only the entities where the current ETag is different from the consumer’s version.  If your entity is a projection from various sources, you may not have a persistent ETag, so you need an efficient way to generate an ETag which is deterministic, so an entity with the same state always generates the same ETag. I have an implementation for a generic ETag generator on GitHub here: EntityTagger code sample. The essence is simple - we get the entity, serialize it and build a hash from the serialized value. Any changes to either the state or the structure of the entity will result in a different hash. To use it, just call SetETag, passing your populated object and a Func<> which acts as an accessor to the ETag property: EntityTagger.SetETag(user, x => x.ETag); The implementation is all in at 80 lines of code, which is all pretty straightforward: var eTagProperty = AsPropertyInfo(eTagPropertyAccessor); var originalETag = eTagProperty.GetValue(entity, null); try { ResetETag(entity, eTagPropertyAccessor); string json; var serializer = new DataContractJsonSerializer(entity.GetType()); using (var stream = new MemoryStream()) { serializer.WriteObject(stream, entity); json = Encoding.UTF8.GetString(stream.GetBuffer(), 0, (int)stream.Length); } var guid = GetDeterministicGuid(json); eTagProperty.SetValue(entity, guid.ToString(), null); //... There are a couple of helper methods to check if the object has changed since the ETag value was last set, and to reset the ETag. This implementation uses JSON to do the serializing rather than XML. Benefit - should be marginally more efficient as your hashing a much smaller serialized string; downside, JSON doesn't include namespaces or class names at the root level, so if you have two classes with the exact same structure but different names, then instances which have the same content will have the same ETag. You may want that behaviour, but change to use the XML DataContractSerializer if you think that will be an issue. If you can persist the ETag somewhere, it will save you server processing to load up the entity, but that will only apply to scenarios where you can reliably invalidate your ETag (e.g. if you control all the entry points where entity contents can be updated, then you can calculate and persist the new ETag with each update).

• From 20,663 issues to 1 issue&ndash;style-copping C5.Tests

The tools I used were the latest versions of: My 64-bit development PC running Windows 8 Update with 8Gb RAM Visual Studio 2013 Ultimate with SP2 ReSharper GhostDoc Pro My first attempt had to be abandoned due to collision of class names which broke one of the unit tests. So being aware of this duplication of class names, I started again and planned to prepend the class names with the namespace name. In some cases I additionally prepended the item of the C5 collection that was being tested. So what was the condition of code at the start? Besides the sprawl of C# code not written to style cop standard, there was: 1) Placing of many classes within one physical file. 2) Namespace within name space that did not follow the project structure. 3) As already mentioned, duplication of class names across namespaces. 4) A copyright notice that spawled but had to be preserved. 5) Project sub-folders were all lower case instead of initial letter capitalised. The first step was to add a stylecop heading plus the original heading contained within a region, to every file. The next step was to run GhostDoc Pro using its “Document File” option on every file but not letting it replace the headers, I had added. This brought the number of issues down to 18,192. I then went through each file collapsing each class and prepending names as appropriate. At each step, I saved the changes to my local Git. The step was to move each class to its own file and to style-cop each file. ReSharper provides a very useful feature for doing this which also fixes missing “this.” and moves using statements inside the namespace. Some classes required minimal work whereas others required extensive work to reach the stylecop standard. The unit tests were run at each split and when each class was completed. When all was done, one issue remained which I will need to submit to stylecop team for their advice (and possibly a fix to stylecop). • Cannot start listening on a certain TCP port, but there's nothing currently listening on it

  I have Windows Service that uses a WCF service host to listen for connections on TCP port 61000. When I try to start the service, I get the error: Service cannot be started. System.ServiceModel.AddressAlreadyInUseException: HTTP could not register URL http://+:61000/ because TCP port 61000 is being used by another application. ---> System.Net.HttpListenerException: The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process at System.Net.HttpListener.AddAll() at System.Net.HttpListener.Start() at System.ServiceModel.Channels.SharedHttpTransportManager.OnOpen() --- End of inner exception stack trace --- at System.ServiceModel.Channels.SharedHttpTransportManager.OnOpen() at System.ServiceModel.Channels.TransportManager.Open(TransportChannelListener channelListener) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.TransportManagerContainer.Open(SelectTransportManagersCallback selectTransportManagerCallback) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.HttpChannelListener.OnOpen(TimeSpan timeout) at System.ServiceModel.Channels.CommunicationObject.Open(TimeSpan timeout) at System.ServiceModel.Dispatcher.ChannelDispatcher.OnOpen(TimeSpan timeout) at... Any other ideas as to why I'm getting this message? This service is running on 64-bit Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard.

• F5 Networks iRule/Tcl - Escaping UNICODE 6-character escape sequences so they are processed as and r

  We are trying to get an F5 BIG-IP LTM iRule working properly with SharePoint 2007 in an SSL termination role. This architecture offloads all of the SSL processing to the F5 and the F5 forwards interactive requests/responses to the SharePoint front end servers via HTTP only (over a secure network). For the purposes of this discussion, iRules are parsed by a Tcl interpretation engine on the F5 Networks BIG-IP device. As such, the F5 does two things to traffic passing through it: Redirects any request to port 80 (HTTP) to port 443 (HTTPS) through HTTP 302 redirects and URL rewriting. Rewrites any response to the browser to selectively rewrite URLs embedded within the HTML so that they go to port 443 (HTTPS). This prevents the 302 redirects from breaking DHTML generated by SharePoint. We've got part 1 working fine. The main problem with part 2 is that in the response rewrite because of XML namespaces and other similar issues, not ALL matches for "http:" can be changed to "https:". Some have to remain "http:". Additionally, some of the "http:" URLs are difficult in that they live in SharePoint-generated JavaScript and their slashes (i.e. "/") are actually represented in the HTML by the UNICODE 6-character string, "\u002f". For example, in the case of these tricky ones, the literal string in the outgoing HTML is: http:\u002f\u002fservername.company.com\u002f And should be changed to: https:\u002f\u002fservername.company.com\u002f Currently we can't even figure out how to get a match in a search/replace expression on these UNICODE sequence string literals. It seems that no matter how we slice it, the Tcl interpreter is interpreting the "\u002f" string into the "/" translation before it does anything else. We've tried various combinations of Tcl escaping methods we know about (mainly double-quotes and using an extra "\" to escape the "\" in the UNICODE string) but are looking for more methods, preferably ones that work. Does anyone have any ideas or any pointers to where we can effectively self-educate about this? Thanks very much in advance.

• Can't resolve offline file conflicts

  We use roaming profiles on our Server 2008 R2 domain, with folder redirection for 'desktop', 'my documents' and 'application data'. But as our network is split across two sites, we have one file server at each site, which are configured to use domain based DFS namespaces and DFS replication to keep things in sync. The DFS path for the replication folder is as follows: \\domain\folderredirection$\<username>\<redirected-folder-name> The real paths are \\site-1-server\folderredirection$\<username>\<redirected-folder-name> and \\site-2-server\folderredirection$\<username>\<redirected-folder-name> As our users all switch between sites (sometimes several time per day), our folder redirection policy has to redirect to the DFS roots rather than hardcoded to a specific server. Both DFS and DFS-R have been proven to be working perfectly. On our laptops, we use offline files for the redirected folders, and this also works fine, however the problem is as follows: When conflicts occur in offline files, it is impossible to resolve the conflicts. I'm given the usual conflict resolution options (i.e. 'Ignore', 'Keep Both', 'Keep network' and 'Keep local'), however, not one of these options will resolve any conflict, yet no error is produced. We only use offline files on laptops, which have either Windows XP Professional or Windows 7 Professional installed. The problem is not specific to any one laptop, it affects every laptop and every conflicting file in exactly the same way. I would have thought the set up we have is common for companies that have multiple sites, so I'm hoping someone will have seen this before?

• Trying to limit IMAP folders/mailboxes my iPhone/iPad sees

  (Note: I am using dovecot 1.0.10 on Ubuntu 8.04.4 LTS. Yes, I know I need to upgrade before next year :) (Note: The SMTP/IMAP server in question only serves my family, so there's only a very few users. Certainly what I propose below, even it it works, would be a logistical nightmare with any significant number of users). I have noticed (and have confirmed via google) that the iOS mail app is terrible in its handling of IMAP subscriptions, namespaces, etc. For example, my iPhone and iPad will see EVERYTHING (all mailboxes, folders, etc.), whereas clients like Thunderbird, alpine, etc. only see what I tell them to see. This makes it an incredible pain to move mail between mailboxes because I have to scroll through a gazillion things. The mail_location in dovecot.conf is: mail_location = mbox:%h/Mail/:INBOX=/var/mail/%u To get around this, I've been considering doing the following for user foo: Create a dovecot userdb with a foo-ios virtual user in it, whose UID is identical to that of the real (in /etc/passwd) foo user and with a homedir of /home/foo-ios. ln -s /var/mail/foo /var/mail/foo-ios mkdir -p /home/foo-ios/Mail cd /home/foo-ios/Mail ln -s /home/foo/Mail/mailbox-i-want-visible mailbox-i-want-visible Make symlinks for the rest of limited set of mailboxes/folders I want visible to the iOS mail app. chown -R foo:foo /home/foo-ios Change iOS mail app settings to log in as user foo-ios instead of user foo. Will this work or will there be some index/file corruption hell because there will be two sets of indexes (one set living in /home/foo/Mail/.imap and other set living in /home/foo-ios/Mail/.imap) indexing the same underlying mbox files? And I'd be more than happy to hear of a better way to do this with dovecot! (Or to hear that dovecot 2.x works better with iOS devices).

• How can I switch from a custom linux network namespace back to the default one?

  With ip netns exec you can execute a command in a custom network namespace - but is there also a way to execute a command in the default namespace? For example, after executing these two commands: sudo ip netns add test_ns sudo ip netns exec test_ns bash How can the newly created bash execute programs in the default network namespace? There is no ip netns exec default or anything similar as far as I've found. My scenario is: I want to run a SSH server in a separate network namespace (to keep the rest of the system unaware of the network connection, as the system is used for network testing), but want to be able to execute programs in the default network namespace via the SSH connection. • asp.net mvc 3 iis 7.5 404 error

  Well works fine on my dev machine. Deploys fine from visual studio 2010 using msdeploy to IIS 7.5 with a site named apps.mydomain.com/myapp. So essentially I want to browse to http://apps.mydomain.com/myapp but when I do I get 404 error. I have Windows authentication enabled only on the site everything else is disabled. I have installed hotfix http://support.microsoft.com/kb/980368. App pool .NET 4 integrated pipeline. I have tried classic pipeline also but doesn't work.   Hi Everyone, I want to query the DB through LINQ writing manual SQL, my linq method is: var q = db.TableView.Where(sqlAfterWhere); returnValue = q.Count(); this method queries well if the value passed to variable "sqlAfterWhere" is: (this variable is String type) it.Name = 'xyz' but what if i want to use IN clause, using a sub query. (i need to use 'it' before every column name in the above query to work), i cant use 'it' before the sub query columns as its a separate query, so what should i do, if i dont use any thing, and use column names directly it gives error saying " could not be resolved" where is my column names with out 'it' at the begining. So the query not working is: (this is a string passed to the variable above): it.Name IN (SELECT Name FROM TableName WHERE Address LIKE '%SomeAddress%') the errors come out as: Name could not be resolved Address could not be resolved The exact error is: "'Name' could not be resolved in the current scope or context. Make sure that all referenced variables are in scope, that required schemas are loaded, and that namespaces are referenced correctly., near simple identifier, line 6, column 25." Same error for "Address as well if i use 'it.' before these columns it gives error as: "The element type 'Edm.Int32' and the CollectionType 'Transient.collection[Transient.rowtype(GroupID,Edm.Int32(Nullable=True,DefaultValue=))]' are not compatible. The IN expression only supports entity, primitive, and reference types. , near WHERE predicate, line 6, column 14." Thanks for the help

• How to pass SOAP headers into python SUDS that are not defined in WSDL file

  Hello, I have a camera on my network, I am trying to connect to it with suds but suds doesn't send all the information needed. I need to put extra soap headers not defined in the WSDL file so the camera can understand the message. All the headers are contained in a SOAP envelope and then the suds command be in the body of the message. I have checked the suds website and it says to pass in the headers like so: from suds.sax.element import Element client = client(url) ssnns = ('ssn', 'http://namespaces/sessionid') ssn = Element('SessionID', ns=ssnns).setText('123') client.set_options(soapheaders=ssn) result = client.service.addPerson(person) Now I am not sure how I would implement this, say for example I have the below header: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <SOAP-ENV:Envelope xmlns:SOAP-ENV="http://www.w3.org/2003/05/soap-envelope" xmlns:SOAP ENC="http://www.w3.org/2003/05/soap-encoding" xmlns:p1="http://www.website.org/ver10/p/wsdl"> .<SOAP-ENV:Header> Using this or a similar example does anyone know hos I would get this passed into the soap command so my camera understands? • Using IIS Application Request Routing (ARR) for ASP.NET MVC

  I use a simple ASP.NET MVC web (the template you use when you create a new site) and the web works as expected in my live environment. I now try to use IIS Application Request Routing version 2. I have a rule that send all reuqests to a different server that match a rule. The settings are a bit like this: http://blogs.iis.net/wonyoo/archive/2008/07/09/application-request-routing-arr-as-a-reverse-proxy.aspx My rule is just a bit different it is /shop(.*). Only requests that contain shop are send to a different server. I have to use rewrite, not redirect (The same as in the Picture) This works as long as the web the original requests go to is no ASP.NET MVC web. I tried to use a plain htm file in the webfolder and it worked. If put a compiled ASP.NET application into the webfolder it worked. But as soon as I put an ASP.NET MVC web into the folder, request arr served by this application. My understanding is that the ARR should kick in before the web application gets the chance to handle the request. Did anybody use ARR sucessfully as a reverse proxy for a ASP.NET MVC web? EDIT Here is the resulting web config when the rewrite roule is entered.   There are two similar namespaces and assemblies for speech recognition in .NET. I’m trying to understand the differences and when it is appropriate to use one or the other. There is System.Speech.Recognition from the assembly System.Speech (in System.Speech.dll). System.Speech.dll is a core DLL in the .NET Framework class library 3.0 and later There is also Microsoft.Speech.Recognition from the assembly Microsoft.Speech (in microsoft.speech.dll). Microsoft.Speech.dll is part of the UCMA 2.0 SDK I find the docs confusing and I have the following questions: System.Speech.Recognition says it is for "The Windows Desktop Speech Technology", does this mean it cannot be used on a server OS or cannot be used for high scale applications? The UCMA 2.0 Speech SDK ( http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd266409%28v=office.13%29.aspx ) says that it requires Microsoft Office Communications Server 2007 R2 as a prerequisite. However, I’ve been told at conferences and meetings that if I do not require OCS features like presence and workflow I can use the UCMA 2.0 Speech API without OCS. Is this true? If I’m building a simple recognition app for a server application (say I wanted to automatically transcribe voice mails) and I don’t need features of OCS, what are the differences between the two APIs?

  Hello I'm trying to create what I think should be a relatively simple business rule to operate over repeating elements in an XML schema. Consider the following XML snippet (this is simplified with namespaces removed, for readability): <Root> <AllAccounts> <Account id="1" currentPayment="10.00" arrearsAmount="25.00"> <AllCustomers> <Customer id="20" primary="true" canSelfServe="false" /> <Customer id="21" primary="false" canSelfServe="false" /> </AllCustomers> </Account> <Account id="2" currentPayment="10.00" arrearsAmount="15.00"> <AllCustomers> <Customer id="30" primary="true" canSelfServe="false" /> <Customer id="31" primary="false" canSelfServe="false" /> </AllCustomers> </AllAccounts> </Root> What I want to do is to have two rules: Set /Root/AllAccounts/Account[x]/AllCustomers/Customer[primary='true']/canSelfServe = true IF arrearsAmount < currentPayment Set /Root/AllAccounts/Account[x]/AllCustoemrs/Customer[primary='true']/canSelfServer = false IF arrearsAmount = currentPayment Where [x] is 0...number of /Root/AllAccounts/Account records present in the XML. I've tried two simple rules for this, and each rule seems to fire x * x times, where x is the number of Account records in the XML. I only want each rule to fire once for each Account record. • "The name 'WithTable' does not exist in the current context" using Fluent NHibernate

  Might be a really easy problem to fix, but it the solution is eluding me! I'm using Fluent NHibernate 1.0 RTM (and using NHibernate bins that ships with it). I'm trying to map my entities and cannot use the WithTable() method. It's not available in Intelligence and VS doesn't suggest any namespaces to reference.
