I am aware of using lsof for checking the files currently accessed by a process. Does there exist a way to see all files that an application opens in it's lifetime?
I have just installed Snow Leopard and now my PHP/MySQL program ends in a "Segmentation fault". I have been searching the web for a solution, I realize that there are some issues with SL/PHP/MySQL, but I have not found anything that works yet.
I downloaded the binary MySQL package mysql-5.1.42-osx10.6-x86_64. I have updated the php.ini file as suggested at various posts.
When I run PHP and connect to the MySQL server the behavior is a bit random. In many cases it works fine to connect and read data. In my specific case the PHP program constructs a
LOAD DATA LOCAL INFILE ...
statement to load data from a text file. It should do several such queries after each other in a loop. It works one time but the halts in a "Segmentation fault". The program worked fine in Leopard, but not now.
My versions are: OS 10.6.2, PHP 5.3.0, MySQL 5.1.42

I'm a normal-sighted person and I would like to view pages at 100% all the time. I use keyboard shortcuts that involve CTRL a lot, so about twenty times a day I accidentally hit CTRL at the same time that I'm scrolling, which results in the page being reflowed and repainted. This in is annoying because it can take up to 30 seconds to fix the issue, depending on how complex the site layout is. On sites with dynamic layout such as Google Docs the problem is more serious; accidentally hitting CTRL+mouse wheel corrupts the display and forces me to refresh the page entirely, sometimes causing me to loose information in the process.
I would like to either decouple CTRL+mouse wheel from zoom, or disable zoom functionality altogether. This is possible on Firefox by using about:config; is there a similar way to edit detailed settings in Chrome? Would I have access to the detailed settings if I used Chromium instead of Chrome? I'll probably jump ship back to Firefox if I can't solve this problem.
There is a superuser question that asks basically the same thing I'm asking, but for Firefox and Internet Explorer exclusively. Other people on the Chrome forum have had related issues, but none have the same problem. "I would really like it if I could deactivate the auto zoom in/out." had "something with laptops and Windows 7", not the feature built into Chrome. Other people have had PDF specific issues, which doesn't concern me.
I've also tried searching for extensions that allow you to disable the scroll; I had hoped that "Zoom Lock" would have the ability to lock the zoom at 100% and prevent CTRL+scroll wheel from distorting the display, but it doesn't work for my use case.

I have a Postfix server and using it with Outlook (POP/SMTP).
I have different sender addresses for an account.
Now I want to configure a relay for a specific sender address.
For example I have postfix for my main domain domain1.com.
Now I have a sender address that is domain2.com.
For that sender address I want that postfix to relay mail to a second SMTP server.
I think that should be possible without problems.
But the problem is that I have to create a SSH tunnel to the second server to connect to the
SMTP server.
But I cant use a persistent SSH connection so I want to know if it is possible that postfix executes some script before relaying the mail to the second SMTP server.
I already found some information for executing a script when incomming emails but I only want to establish the SSH tunnel before postfix relays the mail to the second SMTP server.
I need a good multi monitor tool mainly to gain control over the windows positioning. I have problem that closed window/application remembers at which monitors it was (closed). I have disconnect this monitor (this is often LCD TV) I have problem with this "remembering" windows/applications that was closed in LCD TV are out of sight when LCD TV is disconnected.
What is the best practice to deal with this problem other that that not to close windows on this monitor)? Are there any good multi-monitor software to deal with this?
Hi all,
Like many people, I have accounts on facebook, twitter, tumblr and this and that...
I'm looking for the ultimate solution for combining social networking sites. Something like Ping.fm. Update in one place and the others get updated automatically.
Is Ping.fm the only solution? How do you update your various social sites? How do you keep updated?
Thanks.
I had a weird problem this morning with my router - it's an Alice Gate VoIP 2 Plus WI-FI - not connecting to the internet after more or less 1 hour online (I'm always connected with the ethernet cable). The led status lights for Power, WI-FI, ADSL, Internet, Service should be on in order to be connected and navigate online. The problem was that the leds ADSL, Internet were off and I did not know why because it never happened before.
I looked at the stats in the settings and the numbers for Bytes/Packages for both Sent/Received were there and increasing but I couldn't connect to the internet. I called tech support, they checked and told me to keep the router on for 48 hours because they were checking it.
I've reset it twice before and after I called tech support and it still did not work so after about 2 hours of waiting I tried connecting using WI-FI and the leds 'magically' turned on, first the ADSL and Internet(Internet led always turns on last). At this point I'm curious what could of caused this and I'm doubting that the tech-support guys did something. What could of been the problem with the ethernet cable not connecting in the first place? It always works.
What do the tech support guys normally do when they tell me to keep the router on so they can 'check it'?
PS: I'm using ubuntu 32 bit
Suppose I am visiting a page in Firefox and decide to go somewhere else and type the new URL manually into the address field, but the page fails to load, either because it times out, or because I hit Escape. Then Firefox removes my laboriously entered URL and replaces it with the URL of the current page.
This is outrageous!
I am pretty sure Firefox has changed this behavior lately, because this was one of the reasons I chose Firefox over IE back in the day.
How can I turn off this annoying behavior?
OS: Windows 7
Firefox version: 22
My setup is as follows:-
Main ADSL modem / router (switch) configured as DHCP server with address range 192.168.0.25-60
The office machines are configured with fixed IP ( not in the same address pool of course ) and hard wired to this router.
A wireless access point ( Router ) is connected to provide Internet access for guests in a separate area. This router is NOT configured as a DHCP server. Wireless authentication is turned off.
IP address lease times are set to 4 hours.
Sometimes guests are able to connect to the wireless access point but they are not given a valid IP. They get 169.x.x.x addresses.
Rebooting their machines does not resolve the problem.
The only way to resolve is to reboot the main ADSL/router which is often frustrating for other users who are successfully connected with valid IP and DG.
The problem seems to occur more frequently to Apple/Mac guests although it also sometimes occurs with Win machines.
I personally use Ubuntu on my Laptop and thus far, never have had any problem connecting and getting a valid IP address in the guest area.
One further point of note which may give a clue is that certain guests ( always Apple/Mac ) get lease times of 90 days. However, this does not 'stack out' the number of available addresses and of course, rebooting the router clears them until the next time they login.
Hi,
I have one of these 'Vantec NexStar LX - NST-475LX-BK' drive enclosures. It is a NAS drive.
When I write a file to the device using eSata, or a SMB share I cannot write files over 2GB. I think this is because the drive is formatted with FAT32.
But when I access the device using FTP it doesn't matter. I can write files of any size. E.g. I wrote one on there last night which was 30GB.
Does this make any sense? Why? I guess the most important thing for me is data integrity.
I am building a twitter app and need the web hosting account for learning purposes. I also need to work on MySQL databases. Since I am still a student I need a hosting service that is dirt cheap or cheap.
Currently I am using standard Dvorak on Ubuntu 13.10 and Gnome 3.10. Unfortunately, writing Umlauts (ä,ö,ü) in German requires me to switch to QWERTY/QWERTZ frequently or forces me to not write those umlauts (which looks strange to German native speakers).
Is there a way to use Dvorak Type 2, including the umlauts, but otherwise using the standard English layout on Ubuntu with Gnome? I'm a fast typer on standard English Dvorak and would like to avoid fully switching to German Dvorak as this would (at least temporarily) reduce my typing speed.
I'm looking for a way to manage my academic workflow for reading e-books in .epub or .mobi formats on OSX.
My requirements:
- continuous scrolling mode
- ability to highlight text (e.g. in yellow, using a single keyboard shortcut)
- ideally, the ability to make annotations as well
Amazon Kindle reader for OSX offers annotating, but not continuous scrolling mode. Calibre offers continuous scrolling mode, but does not allow highlighting or annotating.
Is there a solution that will allow me to do this?
I'm also open to workarounds, e.g. using Calibre to convert to HTML, then reading the book in a browser---but I would still need the ability to highlight using a single keystroke.
I recently installed tilda and I would like to open it and close with the same keyboard shortcut. I wrote little something in bash that closes tilda if it is open and opens tilda when there is no such a process in ps -ef. It looks like this:
a=ps -ef | fgrep -i tilda | cut -d' ' -f4 | head -1;if [ $a ] ; then kill $a; else tilda; fi
It seems to be working (at least partially) when I commit this in terminal, but when I assign this command to specific keyboard shortcut (for example alt+1) it does nothing. Any suggestions?
btw. is it possible to assign this shortcut for button '`' like in Quake?
Apache 2.2 seems to be ignoring instructions to return a 410 status.
This happens for both mod_alias's Redirect (using 410 or gone) and mod_rewrite's RewriteRule (using [G]), being used inside a .htaccess file.
This works:
Redirect 302 /somewhere /gone
But this doesn't:
Redirect 410 /somewhere
That line is ignored (as if it had been commented) and the request falls through to other rules (which direct it to an unrelated generic error handling script).
Similarly, trying to use a RewriteRule with a [G] flag doesn't work, but the same rule rewriting to a script that generates a 410 does - so the rules aren't the problem and it seems instead to be something about 410/gone that isn't behaving.
I can workaround it by having a script sending the 410, but that's annoying and I don't get why it's not working.
Any ideas?
I'm pretty sure the options consist of
Just don't do it (use a nice open standard file format). Not great when someone sends you something.
Translate the format on Windows. I think you need Publisher, the viewer won't even print. But you can download a trial version for a once off (been there, done that).
Submit the file for online translation to PDF. www.pdfonline.com/convert-pdf/
Use a Windows VM, wine, crossover office, Win4Lin, or otherwise run Publisher "under" linux.
What I really want to do is convert it to something nicer natively under Linux.
I am basically looking for a good guide on how to set up my home network with this set of hardware. I need:
Dynamic DNS
Firewall + port-forwarding
VPN
Wake-on-LAN from outside firewall
VOIP would be nice
QoS would be nice (make torrents take lower priority to other services when those other services are happening)
DHCP
Wireless + WPA2 security
Ability to play multiplayer computer games
I am not a networking or computing neophyte, but the last time I messed with network gear was a few years ago, so am needing to dust off knowledge I kinda half have.
I have read that I should be wanting to set up the AM200 in half-bridge mode, so that the WRT54GL gets the WAN IP - this sounds like a good idea, but I'd still like to be advised.
I have read that the dd-wrt firmware will meet my needs (though I gather I'll need the vpn-specific build, which appears to preclude supporting VOIP), but I'm not wedded to using it.
My ISP supplies me with:
a block of 8 static IPs, of which 5 are usable to me
a PPPoA ADSL2+ connection
I am building a video time calculator and need to use the number of frames instead of milliseconds.
e.g
25FPS
HH:MM:SS:FR
00:00:10:24 <-- Last frame of 10 seconds
00:00:11:00 <-- First frame of 11 seconds
My problem is that if the start frames are lower than my end frames it can't calculate the time.
00:00:10:05 <-- Start
01:00:10:10 <-- End
00:59:59:05 <-- Answer which I can't get!!
HERE'S MY CODE
string Startdate = Dur_txtStart.Text;
string Enddate = Dur_txtEnd.Text;
string Startdate1 = Startdate.Substring(0, 8);
int Startframe1 = Convert.ToInt32(Startdate.Substring(9, 2));
string Startdate2 = Enddate.Substring(0, 8);
int Startframe2= Convert.ToInt32(Enddate.Substring(9, 2));
TimeSpan diff = DateTime.Parse(Startdate2).Subtract(DateTime.Parse(Startdate1));
int frameDiff = Startframe2 - Startframe1;
int Hour = Convert.ToInt32(diff.Hours);
int Min = Convert.ToInt32(diff.Minutes);
int Sec = Convert.ToInt32(diff.Seconds);
if (frameDiff < 0 && Sec > 0)
{
Sec -= 1;
string frameDiffBuild = string.Format("{0}:{1}:{2}:{3}",Hour.ToString("D2"), Min.ToString("D2"), Sec.ToString("D2"), (Convert.ToInt32(Dur_txtFPS.Text + frameDiff)).ToString("D2"));
Dur_txtOutTime.Text = frameDiffBuild;
}
else
{
string frameDiffBuild = string.Format("{0}:{1}:{2}:{3}",Hour.ToString("D2"), Min.ToString("D2"), Sec.ToString("D2"), frameDiff.ToString("D2"));
Dur_txtOutTime.Text = frameDiffBuild;
}
Hope you can help guys my head is mashed!
I want to force my Google Chrome web browser (version 21.0.1180.89, 64-bit) to use non-localized search (thus google in english) through address bar, using the default Google search engine.
To achieve that, I have to change value of the property last_known_google_url to https://www.google.com/?hl=en& in Local State file (for instance on Linux, the full path to the file is ~/.config/google-chrome/Local State).
In that file, there should be the property:
"browser": {
"last_known_google_url":
but it is not.
Even if I add there the property, it has no impact on search - Google Chrome does not use the property and still searches in localized version.
Another option is to put the property to Preferences file (for instance on Linux, the full path to the file is ~/.config/google-chrome/Default/Preferences) - which works perfectly when I start Google Chrome and do some search - but just after that, the property (actually the whole Preferences file) is overriden, so "the most important" trailing part ?hl=en& of the property value is removed - and without it, the non-localized search does not work anymore.
Why does Google Chrome ignore last_known_google_url property in Local State file?
I've just installed, on Vista 32-bit, a program which in my opinion shouldn't require administrator rights. It's not installed in a system directory, and its purpose shouldn't obviously require any special privileges. However, the .exe has a UAC shield on it, and it asks me to elevate privileges immediately upon execution.
I'm prepared to risk it doing nasty things with the privileges of my user account, but not prepared to risk elevating it. Is there anything I can do short of setting up a virtual machine for it (or downloading the source and compiling it myself)?
(FWIW, the program in question is Pencil - pencil.evolus.vn/en-US/Downloads/Application.aspx - but I'm more interested in general answers than app-specific ones).
I have 2 VMs that are failing to get veeam backups, and it appears that the culprit is vmware snapshots. We are running Vsphere ESXi 4.1 build 320092, we have multiple server 2008R2 machines that take snapshots fine, but when with these two VMs when I take a snapshot I get 2 identical snapshots a few seconds apart. The snapshot manager only shows 1 snapshot, but there are 2 files 1 number off, that are identical sizes. There is only one disk on each VM, so that isn't the problem. Has anyone seen this behavior before and know how to fix it?
Here are the files after a bad snapshot

I would like to block every mail that is coming in from a domain that is running on my server.
Example: I have domain1.com on my mail server and I'm getting a mail from outside with an email address of [email protected] Then I know it's a Spam, because domain1.com is on my server, so the sender cannot come from outside.
I want postfix to check for this, and simply block these kind of emails.
I know this is a function in postfix, just don't know which one.
Thanks.
This site for example: http://www.cultbox.co.uk/reviews/episodes/778-twenty-twelve-episode-3-review
Which has this CSS - http://www.cultbox.co.uk/style.css
body {
text-align: center;
font-size: 1em;
font-family: Helvetica Neue,Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;
color: #000000;

I think I first saw this problem on Tech Republic.
Also is it possible to find out which Font the browser chose to render in?
