• Why does text look so Horrible in my HD monitor???

  I just bought a 1080p 22" Samsung HD monitor (connected via HDMI) and the picture and video quality is great but the text quality is absolutely horrible. Even as I type now all the text in this text box as well as in the browser toolbar and start menu, etc looks weird - like it all has a white outline around it that makes it jagged and hard to read. It hurts my eyes just to look at it. I am running my PC in the suggested native resolution of 1920 by 1080, so what's the problem? Is this one of the unavoidable downsides of using a HD monitor? Is there a solution to the problem?

  Right now I'm running Wordpress w/ W3 Cache on nginx with varnish front end. I'm trying to use the WP Touch Pro plugin for wordpress to display mobile sites, but it is not working. Shows the desktop theme still. I've put the mobile user agents in the rejected user agents box in w3 cache. • Installing Software from a CD onto a Netbook

  I apologize if this question has come up before - I can't seem to find it. Tonight my wife and I purchased a small samsung netbook and have been enjoying it for a light-weight solution around the house. My wife has a game she loves to play that was installed on her last laptop, but we'd like to put it on the netbook. The problem is, there's no cd-drive on the netbook and the game must be installed from a CD. What other ways can I install software from a CD onto the netbook lacking a local cd-drive on the device itself? I would prefer to not have to create image files, and mount virtual drives, etc.

• How can I make my monitor run at it's native resolution under Kubuntu 9.10?

  Hi, I have installed Kubuntu 9.10 afresh on an HP desktop computer with a Samsung SyncMaster 2243 and Intel integrated graphics card. • QuickTime X incorrect aspect ratio for H.264 video

  I'm running Snow Leopard and have a serious issue with QuickTime X. I have a Samsung HMX-H100N/XAA camcorder that records H.264 video in either 720p or 1080i. In either of these resolutions, QuickTime X (and, by extension, all QuickTime-associated applications like FCP, iMovie, etc.) displays an incorrect aspect ratio for all video produced by this camcorder. For example, 720p video is reported as being 1280x720 in the movie inspector (which is normal), but the displayed size is always at an aspect ratio of something like 63:20 (never heard of such a ratio) with sizes like 1700x539. If I open the video in QuickTime 7 player on the same computer, it is displayed correctly. If I process the video through something like MPEG Streamclip to transcode it, it displays correctly. As it stands right now I have to transcode all of my video in order to use it in any iLive (or other QT-based application) unless I want it to look ridiculous. I've tried installing Perian, but that seemed to have no effect.

  Hi, I build my new computer yesterday and I noticed, when computer is shut down, I mean the exact time its looses power from PSU, relativelly loud CLICK sound occurs. Please does anyone knows from where? I think MB, SSD, VGA, CPU nor coolers are not cousing this. I would guess maybe Samsung 1TB HDD (maybe when heads go back to LZ) or some hard safety switch or relay in PSU? Or just the MB speaker? (Yes, its actually installed).   CONUNDRUM: A laptop review in the UK talks about how brilliant the "ASUS ABCDE 55" is, but in America, France, etc there is no such laptop name. In fact it's called "ASUS 12345 AB" - AAARRGH! QUESTION: Is there a way of finding out all the diverse names for the same laptop all over the world? Example: if Samsung create a R2D2500, then what is that spec laptop called in all the other countries (if they release it of course). Or if it's not released, what is their similar spec laptop called in the other countries? I understand that specs may be different, but if I read a review on my trusted UK website, but live in say Australia, I want to be able to find the name of the same laptop in Australia and then check out local places to buy it. So if anyone knows if there is a technique, specific website, or even how to use a company website to find out these annoying name changes I'd really appreciate it.

• Bad Resolution. Running Three screens at the same time

  Hi I am currently using three screens at the same time with my ATI 5770 & an active displayport converter. The thing is that the third screen ( the one that is using the active displayport converter ) is showing terrible resolution compared to my other two screens. ( Samsung syncmaster p23 ) two of my screens got a max resolution of 1920* 1090, meanwhile the third on is only capable of 1600 * 1200. Do any of u guys got any solution to this problem? • How to get Atheros ar242x wireless adapter working under Debian Linux?

  Does anybody know how to get the Atheros ar242x wireless adapter working under Debian Linux (5.0.2 and/or 5.0.3)? My Debian live CDs and install CDs both don't like this card at all. Curisouly, it seems to work on other, Debian-based, Linuxes. Is this a free/non-free Driver issue? I know Debian gets mardy about that. Although for what it's worth, the Live CD doesn't seem to detect my wired LAN connection either... Specifically this is on a Samsung R610 laptop (some version of which seem to have an intel wireless adapter - this one definitely doesn't!) I've tried all sorts of things but obviously on a live CD installing software is limited. I've also tinkerering with network config files and kernel modules etc but to no avail.

• How to configure 1080p HDTV as a monitor

  I've read several posts that almost answer my question, but not quite. I have a Samsung LN32C530 1080p HDTV I'd like to use as a monitor. I was reasonably successful getting the prior 720p model to work ok using SwitchResX, but I think I just got lucky with the parameters (1360x768@60Hz). I tried the expected (1920x1080@60Hz) values and "nearby" ones, with no luck. Older 720p params actually work, but I get the same small real estate as the older model TV. Trying values near 1080p always displays an image that doesn't match the screen size and is very jagged which makes me think interpolation is making things worse. Also, SwitchResX has a bunch of parameters other than H x W ("porch" etc), and I don't know how they all work together. Any help?

In the Bios it shows as one drive Hitachi hts545050a7e380 When I try to install Windows 7 it show 2 drives in the setup Drive 0 with 15 GB Drive 1 with 460 GB Guess it is a hybrid of SSD and normal harddrive, right? I tried to install it on the second drive, but after restarting it goes back into the beginning of the Windows 7 installation. The installation routine automatically activated a 100 MB partition on Drive 0. I guess for the bootmanager. Second try: Installation on the 15GB drive. The same. After reboot it wants to install win7 all over again. If I remove the USB Stick I get the message "Missing operation system" Any ideas?

• How to erase a SSD to restore factory performance in Linux?

  Due to big performance issues with an mdraid-1 array I'd like to pull down from the array one of the devices (Samsung 840 Pro), erase it to restore factory performance and re-add it to the array. The reason I want to do this to one of the SSDs is because the poor performance seems to be related to one specific SSD out of the two (although they are the same brand, model and firmware ver). But how do I erase a SSD from Linux? I mention that hdparm indicates that both drives are frozen at this time. Maybe because they are part of an md array? Thanks in advance!

  I'm trying to connect my Elitebook 8440p laptop to my Samsung HDTV. The laptop does not have a HDMI connection, but it does have DisplayPort. I bought a DisplayPort-to-HDMI adapter here http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002CSRFD8/ref=oss_product, and connected it with a 3' HDMI cable. The video shows up fine, but there is no audio. DisplayPort, HDMI, and the adapter all support audio. I contacted HP tech support, who told me to update my sound drivers. I installed the driver and rebooted. Supposedly, I should see a "HD Audio" tab. No luck, even after installing the driver again and rebooting. HP closed the case. I'm using XP Pro.

  I am just trying some hdparm magic with my new ssd (samsung 840 pro). However I don't want to change my drive over and over so it would be great if I could connect it externally to my laptop. I have a cheap sata-usb Adapter, but I feel it doesn't support the ATA commands send by hdparm. So what's the best way to do this? Are there sata-usb Adapters which fully support the hdparm things? • CPU Affinity on ARM processors

  I am using some RaspberryPI boards for a data acquisition system. They are nice boards, with plenty of community support around them, but they are really slow. I am thinking of gradually replacing them with ODROID multicore boards, with the Samsung Exynos processors. I have some experience using taskset to set CPU affinity on my servers because I am always running Node.js applications that are by definition single threaded. Now, is it possible to do this on an ARM board? I do not see why it would not in theory, but I have doubts over how well it is going to work. Does anyone have experience with this kind of hack? Also, I would appreciate any comments about ARM CPUs and how they differ from x86.

• Best FFDShow settings for upscaling SD content to 1080p HD?

  Hi there, I'm running Windows Media Center 7 with ffdshow-tryouts for the decoding of many of the popular video formats. It works great. I've now upgraded my television from SD to 1080p HD and, naturally, I've still got a large number of existing MP4/XviD/DivX items of content which is in SD. I'd like, therefore, to modify the settings of ffdshow so that they are upscaled to 1080p as best as possible. I appreciate that they won't be as good as their HD equivalent - but on the flip side, I'm pretty certain I can do more than just resizing the picture to get the best possible output. Can anyone recommend the best settings in ffdshow to do this? For example, should I apply a sharpen mask? Or Noise Reduction? Or Deinterlace? Alternatively, would it be better to keep them at their current resolution and let the TV (Samsung Series 5 LE32C580) do the upscaling? Thanks.

• VLC 2.0: can't enable UPnP support

  I'm attempting to use VLC 2.0.1 (Intel 64 bit) to connect to a UPnP server (Serviio 0.6.2 on OS X Snow Leopard). I've tried to enable the feature by right clicking the "Universal Plug 'n Play" node in the LOCAL NETWORK section of the Main Window. While I am able to select 'Enable', the setting doesn't seem to 'stick'. Moreover, UPnP isn't listed in the Playlist Service discovery section of the preferences. The 'Service discovery modules' is currently set to upnp_intel:sap. I am able to connect to the UPnP server with my Samsung TV, so I know that the service works.

• Unable to diagnose Windows 7 lockup

  Basic info: Laptop Dell Studio XPS 13 (Intel P9600, 4GB RAM, NVidia 9400M card, 256G Samsung PM800 SSD) Windows 7 Ultimate, as well as Fedora 14 Here's the deal - Windows would just lock up out of nowhere, no log entries, no dumps, no BSOD, it just freezes. This happens mostly when idle (but it happened when I was using it too) and does not follow a concrete time frame. No input is accepted - only solution is to hold the power button. Although this sounds like a clean cut hardware issue, the reason I'm willing to rule this out is that my primary OS is Fedora 14. It's been working fine for the past 2 years and I've been stress testing the hardware (intentionally or not) every once in a while with no issues. I would like to ask if there's any way to get a diagnostic output from Windows in a situation such as this. The next step in my testing is to leave it in Safe Mode overnight and see if it locks up but even if I do that, I still need to figure out what component freezes it up during normal operation.

• SSD install - what do I need to watch out for when reconfiguring SATA ports?

  I installed a Samsung 840 SSD in a Windows 7 machine. It seems to be working fine, but I'm not seeing the expected performance. The AS SSD benchmark gives 76 for read and 138 for write. At the upper left of the benchmark it says "pciide - BAD" and "31K - BAD". I'm assuming the "pciide BAD" means the motherboard (Gigabyte GA-P35-DS4) is configured as IDE emulation and needs to change to native SATA. I don't know what the "31K" refers to. The bios settings look like this: I saw this article that indicates that changing the SATA mode of the boot drive can cause problems (Blue Screen): Error message occurs after you change the SATA mode of the boot drive What is the correct procedure to change the SATA Mode without causing a system failure? Apply the registry change from the MSFT article above first, then reboot and change the SATA mode? Will the SATA mode change in the BIOS affect other drives?

We want the ability to load presentations with out having to have a computer to do so. Our hope is to put things on to network drives and access and display them from there. • Shortcut Keys for external monitor with XP

  Last night my laptop (samsung nc20 running XP) fell off the table and the screen cracked leaving me unable to see anything. I have arranged for a it to be repaired but want to make a back up of several folders before it gets sent away. I was planning to use my parents LG LCD tv as an external monitor so I can see what I am doing when copying things to but after plugging it in nothing seems to happen (works instantly on another laptop running vista) and hotkeys seem to be of no use at all.
