  I'd like to create a regular expression that will match and return based on the following criteria: 1) I have N search terms entered by a user 2) I have a body of text. 3) I want to return a list of all the occurrences of all the search terms entered by the user plus surrounding context. I think (\w+\W+){,4}(", ")(\W+\w+){,4} might work. 4) I don't know how to use RegexKitLite at all. Do I invoke a RegexKitLite class? or does it interface into NSString somehow?

  What is the best way to index a datetime in MySQL? Which method is faster: Store the datetime as a double (via unix timestamp) Store the datetime as a datetime The application generating the timestamp data can output either format. Unfortunately, datetime will be a key for this particular data structure so speed will matter. Also, is it possible to make an index on an expression? For example, index on UNIX_TIMESTAMP(mydate) where mydate is a field in a table and UNIX_TIMESTAMP is a mysql function. I know that Postgres can do it. I'm thinking there must be a way in mysql as well.

• Django design question: extending User to make users that can't log in

  The site I'm working on involves teachers creating student objects. The teacher can choose to make it possible for a student to log into the site (to check calendars, etc) OR the teacher can choose to use the student object only for record keeping and not allow the student to log in. In the student creation form, if the teacher supplies a username and a password, it should create an object of the first kind - one that can log in, i.e. a regular User object. If the teacher does not supply a username/password, it should create the second type. The other requirement is that the teacher should be able to go in later and change a non-logging-in student to the other kind. What's the best way to design for this scenario? Subclass User and make username and password not required? What else would this affect?

  I am trying to port my usage meter from a JavaScript Gadget (win) / Widget (OSX) to Android. Total newbie when comes to JAVA + Eclipse + Android 2.1 SDK. Essentially what I want to do is load a page, pass through a username and password and load the resulting page into a array that I can then run some regular expressions through. • jquery disable rule validation on a single field

  I am using mvc to create forms that are generated at runtime. For validation, I am trying my hand at the jquery validation library which is very convenient to use. I have the validation expression of each field in the cdata attribute of the tag <input type="text" name="xyz" id="xyz" class="defaultTextBox" cdata="{validate:{required:true, decimal:true, messages: {required:'Please enter an decimal value', decimal:'Please enter a valid decimal'}}}"> This works beautifully. Now one more requirement I have is that some fields are being shown and hidden according to the logic on the page and I need to disable the validation on the hidden fields such that they do not interfere with the form submission. Just toggling the required:true to false and back to true should be enough. Only i do not know how. Anyone has any experience with that?

  I am very new to Fluent NHibernate and I have a problem that I cant find the answer to. I have a string column in my database table, containing a mathematical expression i.e: "10 + 15 * 5". On my entity I have a property that I call Formula and this returns a class that contains the mathematical "formula" (not as a string). I beleive this post http://intellect.dk/post/Implementing-custom-types-in-nHibernate.aspx explains how to solve it for NHibernate. But I am not sure... How do I get this working with Fluent NHibernate?

  I'm fairly sure this is possible, but what I want to do is have a generic method where I can pass in an object along with a Expression that will tell the method which Property to use in it's logic. Can anyone get me started on the syntax for something like this? Essentially what I would like to code is something like: Dim firstNameMapper as IColumnMapper = new ColumnMapper(of Author)(Function(x) x.FirstName) Dim someAuthorObject as new Author() fistNameMapper.Map("Richard", someAuthorObject) Now the mapper object would know to set the FirstName property to "Richard".   Can you have a parent class shared pointer return type of a function and then return a new child class without it being a shared pointer? I'm not sure how shared pointers work in these situations, do they act like a regular pointer? Here is my example: BaseEventPtr Actions::getEvent(const std::string& nodeName) { if(asLowerCaseString(nodeName) == "action") return new ActionEvent(&m_interface); return nullptr; } ActionEvent is the subclass of BaseEvent in this situation. • aacplus frame alignment problems

  I have an application that rips aac+ audio streams, cutting them at every regular interval (i.e. 10 minutes). Sometimes files are playable OK, but sometimes, Windows Media Player just closes when trying to build DirectShow graph. I am using Orban aacplus plugin, and it works under directshow. When I play this file with winamp or vlc, that have it's own aacplus decoding engine, it works fine. However, I need it to work under directshow. Anyway, problematic file is here: http://www.videophill.com/files/00272-20100418100002.aac I know that there is frame alignment error and I confirmed my theory by filling first 256 bytes with 0x00, tried to play it again, and it worked. Is there any info on aacplus frames available on the web, so I can try to find the beginning of the frame manually and cut the rest off?

  I have a virtualenv where I've installed two packages, both using the company.project_name namespace. So the first package is importable from company.project_name.one and the second from company.project_name.two. The challenge is that I can't seem to be able to run PyLint on either one of them. If I issue: $ pylint company.project_name.one I get: ************* Module company.project_name.one F: 1, 0: No module named project_name.one(fatal) I suspect that I'm probably doing something wrong. Is there a proper way to do this? Edit: I should have made it clear that company.project_name and company are namespace packages and not regular packages.

  Is there a quick and easy way to load textual C# into a program. I would like to load the LINQ from the database as an Expression and run it against some data (SQL or Array/List don't mind). I know I can do it using the C# CodeDom/ExpressionTree builder with Assembly Loading and Creating AppDomains, but this seems very long winded. Is there an easier way. I thought with the advent of .net 3.5 that the ExpressionTree would come to my aid, but I now realise that I have to write a parser to use this. Maybe there is a new trick in 4.0? Something along the lines of a dynamic languages Parse would be great. Any suggestions greatly appreciated.

I'd like to learn how to write powerful and yet short programs like the ones you know from the code-golf challenges here. What would be the best place to start out? • k-means clustering in R on very large, sparse matrix?

  Hello, I am trying to do some k-means clustering on a very large matrix. The matrix is approximately 500000 rows x 4000 cols yet very sparse (only a couple of "1" values per row). The whole thing does not fit into memory, so I converted it into a sparse ARFF file. But R obviously can't read the sparse ARFF file format. I also have the data as a plain CSV file. Is there any package available in R for loading such sparse matrices efficiently? I'd then use the regular k-means algorithm from the cluster package to proceed. Many thanks

  Hi all. I'm working on a stored procedure. Inside this one, there are many call to the other stored procedures. There are a bunch of them. I was wondering if there is a option to be able to have the execution time of every stored procedure involved, every function (with a start and end time, ior something like that). The idea is that I need to optimise it and I should touch every part, and since I not sure where is the longest execution time, is a bit difficult. And after a modification I would like the see the hole process if it's shorter or not. If I call the procedure from unix, using sql plus, I have no log. If I call it from TOAD, it's blocked until the end. Any idea? I'm not a dba, so I don't have many rights on the database, I'm just a regular user. Thanks for any advice. C.C.
