• Which databases support parallel processing across multiple servers?

  I need a database engine that can utilize multiple servers for processing a single SQL query in parallel. So far I know that this is possible with the some engines, though none of them are feasible for me either because of pricing or missing features. The engines currently known to me are: MS SQL (enterprise) DB2 (enterprise) Oracle (enterprise) GridSQL Greenplum Which other engines have this feature? Do you have any experience with using this feature? Edit: I have now proposed a method for creating one myself. Any input is welcome. • Remote JMX connection

  I'm trying to open a JMX connection to java application running on a remote machine. The application JVM is configured with the following options: com.sun.management.jmxremote com.sun.management.jmxremote.port=1088 com.sun.management.jmxremote.authenticate=false com.sun.management.jmxremote.ssl=false I'm able to connect using localhost:1088 using jconsole or jvisualvm. But I'm not able to connect using xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:1088 from a remote machine. There is no firewall between the servers, or on the OS. But to eliminate this possibility I telnet xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx 1088 and I think it connects, as the console screen turns blank. Both servers are Windows Server 2008 x64. Tried with 64-bit JVM and 32-bit, neither work.

  I've found some references, when looking for information on WAIK installs of windows 8 of a varient called windows 8 core, that can be installed off the professional edition disk. There's also a mention of it on winsupersite that says The cheapest, called MSDN Operating Systems, costs $699 a year ($499 renewal), and of course includes Windows 8 (Core), Windows 8 Pro, and Windows 8 Enterprise. You get five licenses each for Windows 8 Core and Pro, and one Multiple Activation Key (MAK) for Windows 8 Enterprise. What is windows 8 core? Is it the new 'home' edition or something else? What differentiates it from the pro and enterprise editions?

• Remote application monitoring through Visual GC

  I am trying to monitor an application available on remote machine using VisualVM & Visual GC. I have enabled the jmxremote on the remote side as follows: -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote, -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.port=8888, -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.ssl=false, -Dcom.sun.management.jmxremote.authenticate=false While monitoring through VisualVM, everything runs fine but VisualGC doesn't displays any stats (getting Not Supported for this JVM error). While tried to monitor one local application, VisualGC runs fine... Got success with the remote app once started jstad on the remote jvm. Is this a known issue with VisualGC...? • RMO on Windows 7 - The Specified module could not be found

  My machine: Windows XP (x86), VS2008, .net 3.5, sql server 2005, WinForms - App works fine. Production Machines: Windows 7 (x64), SQl Server 2005 Express - App Starts but throws exception Visual Studio Targeting x86 on setup project and RMO project. Visual Studio gives me a a couple warnings but I can still build: Unable to find dependency 'MICROSOFT.SQLSERVER.MANAGEMENT.SQLPARSER' (Signature='89845DCD8080CC91' Version='10.0.0.0') of assembly 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Smo.dll' Unable to find dependency 'MICROSOFT.SQLSERVER.MANAGEMENT.SQLPARSER' (Signature='89845DCD8080CC91' Version='10.0.0.0') of assembly 'Microsoft.SqlServer.Management.SmoMetadataProvider.dll' This is a simple RMO (Replication Management Objects) app that initiates a pull subscription in SQL Server 2005 and displays status. Works fine on my machine, but fails on the production machine. I'm using a setup project to install the app on the production machine, but I think I'm missing a dependency somewhere, but I can't figure it out. On the production machine the app starts fine, but when I try to synch the subscription i get: System.IO.FileNotFoundException: The Specified module could not be found. (Exception from HResult: 0x8007007E)

• Cannot Generate ParameterSetMetadata While Programmatically Creating A Parameter Block

  I'm trying to programmatically create a parameter block for a function ( along the lines of this blog post ). I'm starting with a CommandMetadata object (from an existing function). I can create the ParameterMetadata object and set things like the ParameterType, the name, as well as some attributes. The problem I'm running into is that when I use the GetParamBlock method of the ProxyCommand class, none of my attributes that I set in the Attributes collection of the ParameterMetadata are generated. The problem this causes is that when the GetParamBlock is called, the new parameter is not annotated with the appropriate Parameter attribute. • Setup non-MS email (gmail) in Windows 8 Mail app

  All documentation I have found online seems to apply to an older or different version of Windows 8. I am using the 90 evaluation copy of Windows 8 Enterprise (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/evalcenter/jj554510.aspx). Is it disabled because it is enterprise edition? Basically, I can start the mail app, bring up the settings (windows+i), but all I am given for options are Permissions and Rate and Review. In other documentation I've seen this is where you add an account. Is this possible? If this is a restriction to Windows 8 Enterprise, is there a trial version of normal Home editions somewhere?

• IASA South East Florida Chapter Meeting Recap - June 2011

  Erik Russell and Giles Marino were our speakers for the June 2011 IASA South East Florida Chapter meeting.    Attendees filled all available seats at the Microsoft office conference room where the event was held. This highlights the high interest in Enterprise Architecture as a career track and chartered project role. Also in attendance were our Board of Directors and Alex Funkhouser, President, Sherlock Technology.   Rainer Habermann, Chapter President, kicked off the meeting by introducing our speakers and Board of Directors.   Alex Funkhouser, President of South Florida’s staffing firm Sherlock Technology spoke briefly about available Software Architect positions in the area. Alex also congratulated and presented this week’s Sherlock Raffle winner with $500 in cash.   Our speakers Giles and Erik then proceeded with their talk. Erik presented a business case in the government sector where Enterprise Architecture helped a government entity cut costs and streamline its various business operations. • 3DS Max 2012 OBJ file import missing polygons

  I started learning OpenGL. I got to a point I want to import some "real" objects. After "Googling" I decided I will go with OBJ file for start, since it is simple to understand, and there are plenty of tutorials on how to read them properly. I have from university access to 3DS Max 2012. So I tried to create very simple model (just deformated cube) and exporting it using OBJ file, just to vertices and triangles for the moment, without textures, so I can examine its structure by myself. But if I imported it right back to 3DS from OBJ file, now it renders somewhat strange, like its smoothen, and with lightsource, even I have none in scene. But the geometry, its wireframe is intact. So I thought maybe it is problem of exporting only vertices and triangles so I downloaded Enterprise-D model from internet, exported with everything on (normals, textures everything), and again imported it. Now, some polygons are missing. So, I want to ask, am I doing something terribly wrong, or is there some incompatibility issue between .max and .obj file ? Even it is only simple textured model without any lightsources, animation etc.? Thanks. Edit: I tried objects with MeshLab, the first, deformated cube was absolutelly OK. But still bothers me that 3DS Max doesen´t render it properly. In Enterprise-D model, there are polygons missing even in MeshLab. • MySQL Connect Conference: My Experience

  It was a great experience to attend the MySQL Connect Conference for the first time ever. Personally I was very much enthralled to present about "How to make MySQL Backups" besides attending different sessions to absorb more knowledge about the technical prospects of MySQL. One of the agenda items in my presentation was "MySQL Enterprise Backup" functionality and features. There were total of 40 attendees in the session, who were very much interested about the MySQL Enterprise Backup product and gave positive feedback as well as areas of improvements on our product. Some of our features brought lot of excitement and smile amongst our customers including,1. Performance improvements in MEB 3.8.02. Incremental Base option from MEB 3.7.1 where there is no need to specify the directory name of the previous backup to fetch the lsn values and instead can directly fetch from backup_history table using --incremental-base=history: last_backup3. only-innodb-with-frm option introduced in MEB 3.7 version. A true online hot backup of InnoDB tables.I also attended a session with similar topic "MEB Best Practices" conducted by Sanjay Manwani, where he double clicked all the features and best strategies of backup & restore. I also got an opportunity to attend other sessions including,* Enabling the new generation of web and cloud services with MySQL 5.6 replication* Getting the most out of MySQL with MySQL Workbench* InnoDB compression for OLTP* Scaling for the Web and Cloud with MySQL replication.Above all, had some special moments in the conference including meeting some of the executives / colleagues for the first time f2f. On a whole, the first MySQL Connect conference was a great success in terms of manifesting the features of our products, direct feedback from customer and team building.  We also had some applauding yahoo moments when Tomas Ulin announced different releases including MySQL 5.6 RC, Connector Python 1.0 and ODBC 5.2 release, MySQL Cluster 7.3, additions to MySQL Enterprise edition etc.

Actually, who doesn’t know or hasn’t heard of Symantec in the tech world?
