  • How can I order my entries by sum from a separate table?

    I am wondering how I can order posts in my PostController#index to display by a column total in a separate table. Here is how I have it set up. class Post < ActiveRecord::Base :has_many :votes end and Class Vote < ActiveRecord::Base :belongs_to :post end I user can either vote up or down a particular post. I know there are likely better ways to do what I am currently doing but looking for a fix given my current situation. When a user votes up a post, a value of 1 is passed to the Vote Table via a hidden field. When a user votes down a post a value of -1 is passed to the same column (names vote). I am wondering how I can display my posts in order of the sum of the vote column (in the vote table) for a particular post. Another way to say that is, if a particular post has a net vote sum of 5, I want that to appear above a post with a net vote sum of 4. I am assuming that I need to affect the PostController#index action in some fashion. But not sure how to do that.

    So just a quick intro, I am starting to explore Vaadin, and it's absolutely perfect. Previously, I was juggling PHP, Perl, Ruby, and Jquery for designing rich client web application. It didn't work out too well, as I've burnt out from trying to fix cross browser issues (aka get-it-to-work-on-IE-damn-it), handling server-side, client-side, and building a robust communication between the two tier had lot of code not related to application logic....by the time I was burnt out, only tiny bit of application logic was implemented. Vaadin seems like the answer to my problem as it only requires Java and built on top of GWT. However, I am curious how I can incorporate Cross-Domain Javascripting ? Back in LAMP environment, I had a CGI proxy script that loaded external URL, and injected JS into the proxy-loaded page. I used the CGI proxy script, as it rendered Javascript of the external URL well. Is there a class or package for Java or a specific Java web framework similiar to Vaadin that makes this possible ? I've worked a fair amount in ASP.NET but it's been a few years -- is this a large gap in my knowledge? Something that's been replaced by more current technology?

    More specifically I'm looking for something, perhaps an add-on for firefox, once enabled it logs all of this information as it's passed to and from the server. I'm doing some web scripting and this would be really handy. If anyone is wondering specifically what I'm doing currently I'm trying to make a script to repost my craigslist ad every 2 days since I handle a few things on there. Might even go so far as to make a simple gui to manage the submissions. I do suspect this goes against the ToS, for that reason I don't plan to release the code. Besides cl is already bad enough with spam, I'm not trying to contribute further to it, figured I'd say what I'm doing for the sake of being honest though. I don't have any bad intentions with this, just some things I've been trying to sell an ad for my pc repair business. I've been reposting some things for months now and so often I just forget to do it.

  • How does one receive and post text messages on a website, a la Twitter?

    I've looked around at pretty much all the SMS posts here on SO and the best answer I've come up with so far is ZeepMobile. The only problem is, they're "in beta" and aren't readily accepting users. Is there a workaround for this, maybe receiving an email via text (kind of like how TwitPic does it?) somehow and parsing it? Basically all I want to do is have people text the site so that their message posts... I don't need to send any messages (actually I would prefer not to). Pretty much the same functionality as Twitter (same functionality, but no I'm not building a Twitter-esque service because I am not crazy). PS this will be a VB.NET ASP.NET 3.5 solution. Anyone have any ideas? Thanks

    I have installed windows server 2003 and configured Domain controller (domain name - xyz.com) and DNS service. for that I have configured fully qualified domain name as server.xyz.com also I have installed apache tomcat with port 8080 on that server and accessed link successfully using "http://localhost:8080", "http://ip address of server:8080", "http://server.xyz.com:8080". but its working for local machine, and when I tried to access it from another machine in same network using "http://ip address of server:8080" its worked for me. but when I tried it using fully qualified domain name i.e. "http://server.xyz.com:8080" it's giving me error, "Could not connect to server.xyz.com" Please guide me getting this setup done. I need to be able to access this link "http://ip address of server:8080" as "http://server.xyz.com:8080" outside my network Any suggestion are highly appreciated..

If I take out the URL from JSON object and write the iterator with students.comments.data, it works.   • How to process a large post array in PHP where item names are all different and not known in advance

    I have a PHP page that queries a DB to populate a form for the user to modify the data and submit. The query returns a number of rows which contain 3 items: ImageID ImageName ImageDescription The PHP page titles each box in the form with a generic name and appends the ImageID to it. Ie: ImageID_03 ImageName_34 ImageDescription_22 As it's unknown which images are going to have been retrieved from the DB then I can't know in advance what the name of the form entries will be. The form deals with a large number of entries at the same time.   • How many SQL queries per HTTP request is optimal?

    I know the answer to this question for the most part is "It Depends", however I wanted to see if anyone had some pointers. We execute queries each request in ASP.NET MVC. Each request we need to get user rights information, and Various data for the Views that we are displaying. How many is too much, I know I should be conscious to the number of queries i am executing. I would assume if they are small queries and optimized out, half-a-dozen should be okay? Am I right? What do you think?

    Running Maven, Eclipse, and Weblogic, when I try to Run As Server onto my local server, I get this error: "Cannot find the declaration of element 'beans'. at mvc-dispatcher-servlet.xml" Then, when I go back into the xml, select all, copy, delete, and paste, error goes away and I'm able to run the web app just fine on the server.   • Nautilus can't start due to segmentation fault

    Out of the blue I can't start nautilus today. When I try to open any directory it tries to open it, and sometimes I even can see the content of directory, but finally it's closed, after that there are no icons on desktop. When I tried to launch nautilus from terminal, I got: $ nautilus . Initializing nautilus-dropbox 0.7.1 Initializing nautilus-gdu extension Segmentation fault (core dumped) I've tried to move ~/.local/share/gvfs-metadata folder, I don't have nautilus-open-terminal package and don't have file /usr/local/lib/libgtk-3.so.0 Also I can't update system right now.
