• string replace in file using C

  I haven't yet implemented this, I'm still in the thinking stage, but I have to go through a file and replace a certain string with another string. For example, <img src="/images/logo.gif" ... should become <img src="/proxy/www.example.com/images/logo.gif" ... Any advice on how I can approach this? Perhaps there exist some "string replace" C functions that would do this for me that I don't know about...? Right now, if I had to write this function myself, I would give it as parameters the file, string to replace, replacement string. Then I would manually go through the file and look for an occurrence of the string and recreate it. This, however, seems very inefficient. Are there better ways to do this? Thanks, Hristo

  In the context of C# 4, ASP.NET MVC 2, and NHibernate; I've got the following scenario: Let's assume an entity Product that have an association to ProductType. In a product edit view; how do I implement that only a sub-set of the product's properties are shown in an elegant and DRY way? Use a product view model builder, and from different view models automagically generate the view with my own Html.EditorForModel() (including drop-downs and other stuff not out-of-the-box)? Attribute the properties of one view model and use the Html.EditorForModel() way aforementioned? Use one model, but implement different web controls (view strategies) (can it be done DRY?)? Something else entirely?

• Rails equivalent of respond_to |format| with a straight render

  I'm working with ActiveResource a lot so my service models are only using XML. Thus, I have no need for a respond_to block, I literally just render :xml => @model I can't however figure out how to render a 404 header using this. I've had to resort to respond_to, which I think adds a few unnecessary method calls. Here's what I'm using: respond_to do |format| if (record_found) render :xml => @some_record else format.xml{ head :not_found } end end but I just want something like render :xml => head :not_found which doesn't work. Can anyone tell me the proper syntax?

  Dear Devs I have a wcf service deployed on IIS with basicHttpBinding and aspNetCompatibilityEnabled=true I have a test client as well which invokes multiple service functions simultaneously. To check the performance of service call on client and server I calculated the Avg time it takes to complete a service request on client(in proxy code) and on server as well. after a test of 8 hrs (server and client were on the same machine) i came to know that average response time on client is around 34ms where as the Avg execution time on server is around 3ms so the difference is 31ms. I would like to know why every call is taking 31ms is it justified? and how can i reduce this?

• git-svn on subset of large svn repo

  repo layout: a/1 a/2 a/3 ... b/1 b/2 ... c/1 c/2 ... git-svn works perfect for me if I work on 1 svn repo subdir. But right now I'm facing the need to work on several subdirs (like, a/1, a/2, and b/1), and there's much shit in repo besides them. I've managed to write a regexp for this, but git-svn with --ignore-paths seems to check each file's name against this regexp, instead of skipping entire folders, so it's too slow. /* Probably I should file a bug report about this */ So -- any ideas of handling this? If some Mercurial svn agent can do selective clones, it's OK too, but I'd better stick with git. My another idea was some selective svn proxy, but I haven't succeeded in googling anything like that. • Overriding as_json has no effect?

  I'm trying to override as_json in one of my models, partly to include data from another model, partly to strip out some unnecessary fields. From what I've read this is the preferred approach in Rails 3. To keep it simple, let's say I've got something like: class Country < ActiveRecord::Base def as_json(options={}) super( :only => [:id,:name] ) end end and in my controller simply def show respond_to do |format| format.json { render :json => @country } end end Yet whatever i try, the output always contains the full data, the fields are not filtered by the ":only" clause. Basically, my override doesn't seem to kick in, though if I change it to, say... class Country < ActiveRecord::Base def as_json(options={}) {foo: "bar"} end end ...I do indeed get the expected JSON output. Have I simply got the syntax wrong?

  I have a couple of queries related to Cache-Control. If I specify Cache-Control "max-age=3600, must-revalidate" for a static html/js/images/css file, with Last Modified Header defined in HTTP header, a. Does browser/proxy cache(liek Squid/Akamai) go all the way to orgin server to validate before max-age expires? Or will it serve content from cache till max-age expires? b. After max-age expiry(that is expiry from cache), is there a IMS check or is content re-downloaded from origin server w/o IMS check?

• WCF - WebReferences not working

  At the client end, I have generated a Proxy using SvcUtil.exe and it is working fine. Then I have added a WebReference to the client assembly and calling the same method. But it is not working. My program is running in console mode and the method is suppose to return a string. It is not returning the string. I just see a blank console window. No exception is thrown. And after setting a debug point on the method call I see that, program is halted on the method call for ever. What should I look for to solve the problem? I am using VS2005. And adding the webReference by right-clicking the client project and then clicking "Add Web Reference" pop-up menu.

• Django equivalent for latest entry for each user

  Hi, I'm surprised this question hasn't come up. Couldn't find much on the web. Using Entry.objects.latest('created_at') I can recover the latest entry for all Entry objects, but say if I want the latest entry for each user? This is something similar to an SQL latest record query. But how do I achieve this using the ORM? Here is my approach I'm wondering if it is the most efficient way to do what I want. First I perform a sub query: Objects are grouped by user and the Max (latest) created_by field is returned for each user (created_at__max) I then filter Entry objects based on the results in the subquery and get the required objects. Entry.objects.filter(created_at__in=Entry.objects.values('user').annotate(Max('created_at')).values_list('created_at__max')) or using a manager: class UsersLatest(models.Manager): def get_query_set(self): return Super(UsersLatest,self).get_query_set().filter(created_at__in=self.model.objects.values('user').annotate(Max('created_at')).values_list('created_at__max')) Is there a more efficient way? possibly without sub query? • WCF over named pipes

  Hi I have a problem with following scenario: There is a windows service running which spawns several processes. These processes open a WCF service host over a named pipe binding. Now the parent windows service tries to ping (connect) to the child processes using the wcf proxy over the well known named pipe. This, however fails saying: "Endpoint not found" If I run the parent process as a console application it works fine. Any ideas? I was thinking about permissions but the child processes should inherit the permission of the service, besides they are in the same session as well. thanks, Christoph

• "org.json.JSONArray implements Serializable": What's the best option to achieve this?

  I am using Grails Webflow, what ever object I pass to a view, it must be Serialized. My domain models "implement Serializable", so they work. The problem is when I get a response from a WebService. It is of the org.json.JSONArray class. I just want to pass the whole Array over to the view yet it doesn't implement Serializable, so it fails, Any thoughts on how I can pass this, or my best option? Can I just edit the source of the org.json library and make every class "imp Serializable"? Or process the result into Domain objects that do "imp Serializable"

• ActiveScaffold complains about association

  I'm using ActiveScaffold to create an Admin UI. I have two models: Post and Comments. A Post has-many Comments, and a Comment belongs-to a post. There's a validates_presences_of :text validation the Comment model. The problem is that when I create a new Post from the Admin UI without creating a new Comment in the subform, ActiveScaffold complains about the validation. I can create the Post if I also create a Comment associated with it, which is not what I Want. I can create a new Post manually from script/console. What gives?

• What is the purpose of Managers / Transactions?

  I'm building a spring application for the first time. I'm running into lots of problems with concurrency, and I suspect that there is something wrong with the way I'm managing the backend. The only difference I can see between my backend code and examples I've seen are manager classes. In my code, I have my model (managed by hibernate) and my DAOs on top of that to do CRUD/searching/etc on the models. In example code I have looked at, they never use the DAO directly. Instead, they use manager classes that call the DAOs indirectly. To me, this just seems like pointless code duplication. What are these manager classes for? I've read that they wrap my code in "transactions," but why would I want that?

• Limit a user to view only associated records in rails

  I have an application with three Models (Profile - SubModel - SubSubModel) chained together with has many relationships. I am trying to limit a user, after logging in, to only retrieving records that are associated with their Profile. I am very new to rails and this is what I had been trying in the Profile model has_many :submodels, :conditions => {:profile_id => self.id} but this is returning an empty data set when calling with Profile.find_by_id(1).submodels, how else could I achieve what I am trying to do. Or should I handle this in the controller or view instead, I thought it sounded well suited for the model to handle this.

• Carrier Wave not completing upload to Rackspace Cloud Files

  Hello, I have been attempting to get file uploads to Rackspace Cloud Files online all night, and finally tried the Carrierwave Plugin. Although the plugin worked right away, when I tried viewing the file uploaded (an image) it was broken. Upon further testing, I found out that files would upload to Cloud Files, however were just a fraction of their original size. I can't seem to figure out what's worng, and any help would be greatly appreciated.   Can Automapper map values from a NameValueCollection onto an object, where target.Foo receives the value stored in the collection under the "Foo" key? I have a business object that stores some data in named properties and other data in a property bag. • How can I run a user script before any inline scripts run on a webpage?

  I want to make a greasemonkey type script for firefox that runs before the scripts on the page. Greasemonkey scripts run after scripts on the page, so that won't work. The reason I need this is because I want to edit one of the scripts on the page. Specifically, I want to delete a script that forces the page to load inside a frame since having the page inside a frame breaks F5 (Pressing F5 makes the page jump back to the front page instead of reloading the current page). Also, I don't want to load the page through a proxy with AJAX and switching to chrome/opera is not an option either. I was thinking maybe the Jetpack add-on would work but it seems to only have the same event that greasemonkey uses, DOMContentLoaded. Any ideas?

  ...what options are there now with .NET 4.0, in a way that does support NAT for the client side (i.e. client behind NAT). I would prefer to use something HTTP based, but that is a weak condition - I think mid term I will have some non http communication outside WCF anyway, so proxy traversal is something I could delay. Pre .NET 4.0 there was the issue that basically the server-client channel would be opened from the server, which made NAT something non-traversable. Polling is not acceptable - we talk time sensitive information here. So, what are my options now?
