This is more of a design question. I have a template class, and I want to add extra methods to it depending on the template type. uint8_t and unsigned char linking error

I'm using template function: template<typename T> void func(const T& value) { obj->func(value); } where obj is object of class: void my_object::func(int64_t value) { ... } void my_object::func(uint64_t value) { ... } void my_object::func(uint32_t value) { ... } void my_object::func(uint16_t value) { ... } void my_object::func(uint8_t value) { ... } The problem is with uint8_t overload of my_object::func() override. Linker complains about unresolved external symbols to overloads, which should have unsigned char parameter. Should I replace uint8_t overload with unsigned char overload? Edit: Just now noticed, that linker complains about uint64_t and int64_t too. I compile on Windows using MSVC++ 2008 Express.

I would like to add a datetime column to a table and have all the values set to anything (perhaps 1970 or year 2000) but it seems like i cant use not null without a default and i cant remove a default once added in. So how can i add this column? (once again just a plain datetime not null)

Where in memory are stored nullable types?

This is maybe a follow up to question about nullable types. Where exactly are nullable value types (int?...) stored in memory? First I thought it's clear enough, as Nullable<T> is struct and those are value types. Then I found Jon Skeet's article "Memory in .NET", which says: Note that a value type variable can never have a value of null - it wouldn't make any sense, as null is a reference type concept, meaning "the value of this reference type variable isn't a reference to any object at all". I am little bit confused after reading this statement. So let's say I have int? a = null;. As int is normally a value type, is it stored somehow inside struct Nullable<T> in stack (I used "normally" because I don't know what happens with value type when it becomes nullable)? Or anything else happens here - perhaps in heap?

Hi, everyone: I am also open to just straight-up refactoring what I'm finding to be pretty repetitive, but to give a baseline of how it's working.... I have for every contact a Campaign, which has_many of three types of Models: Email, Call, and Letter. When an Email (Call or Letter) has been executed for a specific contact, I have a Contact_Email(_or_Call_or_Letter) which belongs to both the Contact and the Model (Email_or_Call_or_Letter). Each Contact_Email for example pairing has a :date_sent attribute. So does each Contact_Call and Contact_Letter. How do I find the latest of all of them? C# getpixels() gets the correct value on xp and vista but is slightly off when used on windows 7

I have a C# program that works correctly on xp and vista but it needs to be used on windows 7, I have not been able to come up with a solution, it appears that getpixels just doesn't work right on windows 7. I am getting one of the RGB values because I am dealing with tiff grayscale images. System.Drawing.Bitmap image;// this is in a separate class image = new Bitmap(destination);// this is in the constructor Color t = image.GetPixel(j, i); // this is in a separate function int s = t.R when I print s, for example, image(0,0), it is supposed to be 220, it will be 221 I am doing edge detection on an image and I have to go through the image pixel by pixel, I have run the exact same program on XP,Vista,windows7 and windows 7 got different values. It wouldn't let me post images at all and only one link. The first image is the original image, the second is the correct image, also the one I get with XP and Vista, the final image is the image when running the same program in Windows 7. There is not much of a visible difference but it matters for what I am doing. Thanks for the help, it seems that I am having a hard time explaining my problem.

MySQL, how can I SELECT WHERE one field value doesn't occurs in another?

I'm trying to do a search on my test server, speed isn't so important. I want to find if a phrase, the whole contents of one field, occurs in any part (as a whole) doesn't occur in another field. Heres my current query which finds if the phrase does occur SELECT pads.padid, pads.programname, keywords.word FROM Pads JOIN keywords ON Pads.Padid = keywords.Padid WHERE pads.Programname = keywords.word AND RemoveMeDate = '2001-01-01 00:00:00' My problem is that the field word contains other words too. I need to produce a count of where there isn't a keywords record with keywords.word equal to pads.programname ? Inverse relationship of two variables

this one is maybe pretty stupid.. Or I am just exhausted or something, but I just cant seem to solve it.. Problem : two variables X and Y, value of Y is dependent on value of X. X can have values ranging from some value to some value (lets say from 0 to 250) and y can have different values (lets say from 0.1 to 1.0 or something..) - but it is inverse relatonship (what I mean is: if value of X is e.g. 250, then value of Y would be 0.1 and when X decreases up to 0, value of Y raises up to 1.0.. So how should I do it? lets say I have function: -- double computeValue (double X) { /computation/ return Y; } Also, is there some easy way to somehow make the scaling of the function not so linear? - For example when X raises, Y decreases slower at first but then more rapidly in the end.. (rly dont know how to say it but I hope you guys got it) Thanks in advance for this stupid question :/
