    I'm designing a multiplayer turn-based game for Android (over 3g). I'm thinking the clients will send data to a central server over a socket or http, and receive data via GCM push messaging. I'd like to know if anyone has practical experience with GCM for pushing 'real-time' turn data to game clients. What kind of performance and limitations does it have? I'm also considering using a RESTful approach with GAE or Amazon EC2. Any advice about these approaches is appreciated.

    I would like to show a second image appearing while a "door" is closing on my character. I've got my character in the middle of the screen and a door coming from the left. When the door passes my character, I would like to have this second image appearing little by little. So far, I've gotten by with fadingOut the character and then fadingIn my second image of the character at the same position when the door is completely closed, but I would like to have both of them at the same time. (the effect that image 1 becomes image 2 when the door is sliding from left to right). Would you know how to do this with Cocos2d?     Possible Duplicate: What is the best stucture of SEO friendly URL? I am working on a job board, and i'm trying to figure out a good design for URL structure. Some things that I have found through research: 100 - 150 Chars long is ideal 3-5 words in your url, according to Matt Cutts Use .htaccess to force clean urls Do not duplicate data (important) Clean and precise, describing the content Use hyphens On the homepage, I try to detect the users location based on IP, but this isn't always accurate, and not always reliable. So until they put in their city/location, I can't always use this structure but this is potentially work-able. For Searching, a form post to a results page: domain.com/jobs/[city]/[search] ie: domain.com/jobs/toronto/sales manager/ OR domain.com/search/jobs/toronto/sales manager/ or do I remove the word JOBS and just use Search. I trying to keep good search terms in the URL, but also keep it clean and concise. Can someone give me some feedback and thoughts to 'why'...

  • Will many links to the same page without nofollow penalize the host site in the search engine rankings?

    May be a silly question, but I'll give it a shot :). On my forum app I would like to allow users with sufficiently high reputation display links to their home pages under every post - without the nofollow attribute (while lower rep users will have the nofollow) I am happy to help the site contributors improve rankings of their own, but not sure if this can actually deteriorate the rank of the host (the site that hosts those links) - as potentially the same link to the user's home page may be peppered in the pages of the host. What do you think? Thanks.

  • How does Google Analytics aggregate the Count of Visits (Frequency & Recency Report)?

    Here's my simple understanding of Count of Visits: Each person that comes to my site gets one "count" for each visit. They are put into a bucket of people with the same number of total counts -- if you visit twice, you are in the two bucket, if you visit six times, you are in the six bucket. From there, a report (Frequency & Recency) makes a line for each bucket and reaches into the bucket and totals the number of people in that bucket, putting that total in the second column. My Question: Will a two month report automatically put someone into two buckets, and put them on two separate lines in the Count of Visits table? This explaination makes it seem like a two-month long report will put the same person into a bucket twice, one bucket for each month. The two-month report will then show that person's visits on two different lines, instead of aggregating them. Example for Clarification: Bob comes to my site three times in January and seven times in February. I run a report for Jan 1 -- Feb 28. Will Bob be on both the Three Count line and the Seven Count line, or will he be on the Ten Count line?

It's clear to understand, but I don't get why the docs are misleading? They implicitly propose to use: # Set Employee as Address entity's parent directly... address = Address(parent=employee) But Model expects key. And what's worse the parent=user.key() swears that key() isn't callable. And I found out the user.key works. EDIT 1 After reading the example form the docs and trying to replicate it — I got type error: TypeError('Model constructor takes no positional arguments.'). This is the exacto code used: user = User('[email protected]', 'password', 'First', 'Last') user.put() stamp = UserLogin(parent=user) stamp.put() I understand that Model was given the wrong argument, BUT why it's in the docs?

    Say I have a simple structure: app = webapp2.WSGIApplication([ (r'/', 'pages.login'), (r'/profile', 'pages.profile'), (r'/dashboard', 'pages.dash'), ], debug=True) Basically all pages require authentication except for the login. If visitor tries to reach a restrictive page and he isn't authorized (or lacks privileges) then he gets redirected to the login view. The question is about the routing design. Should I check the auth and ACL privs in each of the modules (pages.profile and pages.dash from example above), or just pass all requests through the single routing mechanism: app = webapp2.WSGIApplication([ (r'/', 'pages.login'), (r'/.+', 'router') ], debug=True) I'm still quite new to the GAE, but my app requires authentication as well as ACL. I'm aware that there's login directive on the server config level, but I don't know how it works and how I can tight it with my ACL logic and what's worse I cannot estimate time needed to get it running. Besides, it looks only to provide only 2 user groups: admin and user. I have slow internet where I live, I always relied on the Alternative CD. But now with it gone for 12.10, so I looked for alternatives (DVD Image). So where can I find a DVD image, or is the only way to get one is to buy a DVD from the shop?

    Oracle's Secure Enterprise Search is part of PeopleSoft now.  It is provided as part of the Peopltools platform as an appliance, and is used with applications starting with release 9.2.  Secure Enterprise Search is a rich and powerful search product that can enhance search and navigation in PeopleSoft applications.  It also provides useful features like facets and filtering that are common in consumer search engines.Several questions have arisen about the deployment of SES and how to administer it and insure optimum performance.  People have also asked about what versions are supported on various platforms.  To address the most common of these questions, we are posting this list of tips.Platform SupportSES 11.1.2.2 does not support some of the platforms supported by PeopleTools, such as Windows 2012 and AIX 7.1. However, PeopleSoft and SES can use different operating system platforms when SES is deployed on a separate machine.SES 11.2.2.2 will have the required platform support for PT 8.53 in the future. We are planning to certify PT 8.53 once the testing is complete in 8.54 development and all platform support is released for 11.2.2.2.ArchitectureWe recommend running SES on a separate machine (from your apps) for two reasons:1.    SES bundles specific WebLogic, Java, and Oracle DB versions and might need different OS patches at a minimum than PeopleSoft. By having SES run on a different machine, these pre-requisites can be managed better through their lifecycle independenly for PeopleSoft and SES.2.    SES is resource intensive - it runs it's own WebLogic and Oracle database. By having SES run on its own machine, sufficient resources can be allocated to SES and free the PeopleSoft servers from impacts of SES load patterns.We will be providing a comprehensive red paper covering PeopleSoft/SES administration in the near future, but until that is published, we'll post tips on this blog.

    I get 18,000 access denied error showing in Google Webmaster Tools every day! So strange it shows for URL's with www and not no-www. Fetch as Google works perfectly for pages got that error. Google starts to downgrade my website - impressions have dropped from 35,000 to 18,000. I am using cloud flair CDN and .htaccess mod_rewrite. Any help will be extremely appreciated as I am really loosing control.
