• Silverlight Html Placeholder now support OOB mode

  With the official Silverlight 4 release this week, one of the things we introduced in the Telerik Silverlight controls is the ability to use the Html Placeholder control in OOB in the same way you do when the control is hosted in the browser. The good news is that you don't need to do anything in order to enable this feature. It comes out of the box and if you have an app that is using the HtmlPlaceholder you just need to install it in OOB mode to see the same html that you are seeing when the application is hosted in the browser. When in OOB mode we are using internally the Microsoft WebBrowser control to render the Html - that's why this feature is SL4 specific and is not available in the SL3 binaries (which we still officially support).   Go play with it and if you have any questions ...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • How can I locate empty space next to polygon regions?

  Let's say I have the following area in a top-down map: The circle is the player, the black square is an obstacle, and the grey polygons with red borders are walk-able areas that will be used as a navigation mesh for enemies. Obstacles and grey polygons are always convex. The grey regions were defined using an algorithm when the world was generated at runtime. Notice the little white column. I need to figure out where any empty space like this is, if at all, after the algorithm builds the grey regions, so that I can fill the space with another region. Basically what I'm hoping for is an algorithm that can detect empty space next to a polygon.

Unfortunately most blogs put rel=nofollow on such links, but some blogs don't do that. What other ways are there to find quality pages to put keywords links back to your website? • Pls help Installation has ruined laptop

  Hi this was my time using Linux. So I installed Ubuntu from Windows 7 via USB. After booting into Ubuntu I proceeded to do a full install over windows. This seemed to be going fine but at the point where I was to sign up to Ubuntu one it froze. After awhile maybe 30 mins I realised nothing was going to happen, so I restarted. Now after the bios options bit passes all I get is a prompt flashing at the top left of a black screen. I have tried booting up via USB option but nothing happens, I have tried this 6 or 7 times with fresh usb each time and also with lubuntu. I'm not sure if I have correctly made a live usb obviously I believe I have been but being new I can't guarantee this. Can anyone help me get some functional out of my laptop. Thanks Ben

• How to use Google Analytics to track a development and production versions of the same site on different servers?

  I have a website with two versions, one for production and one for development (testing new features). All of the code is under version control and the websites are on separate servers. Currently, I have the same Google Analytics Tracking code used on both sites. Since the code is under version control, it would be ideal to either have an if I am on production, use this code; else if on development server use that code clause. But I suspect that Google makes it easier to do something like this. I see that there are many ways to configure a GA tracking code, e.g. "a single domain" vs. "multiple top level domains". But it is not clear to me how to set this up. Also, if tracking code configured for a single domain has been on the development server, have I been picking up traffic to both sites, or does GA just ignore the second domain that I haven't registered?

  Hi all. Does anyone know of a hosted version of Yahoo! Answers (or Stackoverflow/Superuser) that I could integrate with my site? I know that there are some open-source implementations (see http://meta.stackoverflow.com/questions/2267/stack-overflow-clones?page=1&tab=votes#tab-top) but I'd rather have some hosted if possible. I know there is http://stackexchange.com/ as well, but I really want some tight integration with the rest of my site. Failing that, has anyone got any experience with the open source versions? • Screencast several application windows at once in Microsoft Windows

  I have several (20+) applications running on a Microsoft Windows PC. What I would like is a solution that allows me to broadcast the window of each application in a webpage, in readonly mode (there's no need for the users to interact with it). This should work even if the application is in the background, seeing that there's no way to fit all of them on the screen. I performed very extensive searching, from simple screencasting apps such as Camtasia, CamStudio or VHScrCap to things like VNC (haven't found any server able to broadcast multiple windows at once, much less background windows) and even application virtualization, but in the end I haven't found anything that fits my needs. Most solutions that allow capturing a window instead of the whole desktop will not let you capture multiple windows but only a single window and on top of that they don't even work when the window is in the background.

  Eager loading with Entity Framework depends on the special ObjectQuery.Include method. We’ve had that from Day 1 (first version of ef). • Pros and cons of using Grails compared to pure Groovy

  Say, you (by you I mean an abstract guy, any guy in your team) have experience of writing and building java web apps, know about filters, servlet mappings and so on, and so on. Also, let us assume you know pretty well any sql db, no matter which one exactly, whether it mysql, oracle or psql. At last, let pretend we know Groovy and its standard libraries, for example all that JsonBuilder and XmlSlurper stuff, so we don't need grails converters. The question is - what are benefits of using grails in this case. I'm not trying to start flame war, I'm just asking to compare - what are ups and downs of grails development compared to pure groovy one. For instance, off the top of my head I can name two pluses - automatic DB mapping and custom gsp tags. But when I want to write a modest app which provides small API for handling some well defined set of data, I'm totally OK with groovy's awesome SQL support. As for gsp, we does not use it at all, so we are not interested in custom tags as well.

• How can I remove the Unity Launcher?

  I'm running Ubuntu Netbook. With the recent upgrade to 10.10 I was excited about the Application Menu/the global menu bar and its implications for screen real estate. Unfortunately, the Unity Launcher on the left hand side of the screen takes more valuable space away than the new menu bar gives. Is there any way to get rid of the Launcher? Alternatives I would be satisfied with include: Not having the Launcher at all Having the Launcher hide automatically Having applications open on top of the Launcher (not next to it) (edit:) Note that I am specifically looking for a way to keep the global menubar, while getting rid of the Launcher.

  at the moment i'm running ubuntu server 12.04 on top of a virtual box running as service in M$ w7x64, I've configured the shares on fstab with E /media/E vboxsf auto,rw,uid=1000,gid=1000 0 0 the mount is ok drwxrwxrwx 1 knoker knoker 16384 Sep 1 20:02 E but i cant change the permissions inside of /media/E ,chmod runs but doesn't do nothing. on a specific case /media/E/Docs/Downloads i have dr-xr-xr-x 1 knoker knoker 163840 Sep 1 19:30 Downloads and since i cant seem to be able to change from linux i tried it on the windows, and all users listed have full control... Often, a companies process management is total SWAG or they have Frames based websites written recently, .NET 1.1 based code, no separation of concerns, poor quality control...I could go on and on and on... Projects can succeed, but there tends to be so much waste I am amazed at how much time and money a company can throw away. I've seen it happen at several companies. • How to properly add webapps to unity on 13.10

  I'm new to ubuntu, and one of the features that made the change from windows was the integrated webapps. I installed ubuntu 13.10, installed the unity-webapps-service and the unity-chromium-extension via terminal. Once I opened Gmail, facebook, google docs, etc... they all offered me to install it on ubuntu. But all I get is the icon on the applications menu, there's no integration with the top bar or the HUD. Does anyone know how can I solve this?
