• TFS: how to change custom field allowed values

  I have my custom field of string type with predefined set of values: "1 - Cool", "2 - Good", "3 - Average",... Now it is necessary to remove "2 - Good" value and rename "3 - Average" into "2 - Average". I see easy solution: just delete 2 existing "2 - Good" and "3 - Average" and create the new "2 - Average". Question: Q1: What will happens with issues that contain values to be deleted? Probably, system won't accept such work item change? Q2: What is a good approach to do what I need? Thanks a lot! Any thoughts are welcome!

• is NATURAL JOIN any better than SELECT FROM WHERE in terms of performance ?

  Today I got into a debate with my project manager about Cartesian products. He says a 'natural join' is somehow much better than using 'select from where' because the later cause the db engine to internally perform a Cartesian product but the former uses another approach that prevents this. As far as I know, the natural join syntax is not any different in anyway than 'select from where' in terms of performance or meaning, I mean you can use either based on your taste.   I have a string from a text file that look something like this: long_str = "returns between paragraphs 20102/34.23" - 9203 1232 "test" "basic HTML" Note: Quotes are part of the string. int match(char *long_str){ char * str; if ((str = strchr(long_str, '"')) != NULL) str++; // last " ? else return 1; return 0; } Using strstr I'm trying to get the whole substring between the last two quotes: "basic HTML". I'm just not quite sure what would be a good and efficient way of getting that match. I'm open to any other ideas on how to approach this. Thanks

• Access .ldb file & multiple connection.

  I have an API which opens an access database for read and write. The API opens the connection when it's constructed and closes the connection when it's destructed. When the db is opened an .ldb file is created and when it closes it's removed (or disappears). There are multiple applications using the API to read and write to the access db. I want to know: Is ldb file used to track multiple connections Does calling an db.close() closes all connections or just one instance. Will there be any sync issues with the above approach.

• JAAS : on Callback ( Interesting based on HTTP headers )

  I am using NameCallback and PasswordCallback for username and password.For username and password, popup comes on browser and when i enter username ans password, JAAS authenticates my request. On the wireshark, I have seen that 401 Unauthorized message (WWW-Authenticate header)comes and when i enter username/password HTTP request with credentials generate ( with Authorization header) and goes to server. My requirement : I don't want pop up to come.My application on other server having username / password, so once it received 401 then based on some logic it will generate HTTP request with Authorization header / credentials and sent it back. FLow : User - Other Server - My Tomcat5.5 Here on Other Server, nobody is available to enter username/password manually.Application is deployed and it will only generate HTTP request with credential and sent it back to tomcat. Can we have any other callback which behave like this.Need your help.Please provide me feedback as well related to approach.

• How to handle request/response propagation up and down a widget hierarchy in a GUI app?

  Given a GUI application where widgets can be composed of other widgets: If the user triggers an event resulting in a lower level widget needing data from a model, what's the cleanest way to be able to send that request to a controller (or the datastore itself)? And subsequently get the response back to that widget? Presumably one wouldn't want the controller or datastore to be a singleton directly available to all levels of widgets, or is this an acceptable use of singleton? Or should a top level controller be injected as a dependency through a widget hierarchy, as far down as the lowest level widget that might need that controller? Or a different approach entirely?

• rails 3.1 partial_updates doesn't seem to work with password

  i have a user model with a password attribute, which gets saved as password_digest. What i want to do is have the edit user page and the edit password page separated, so that the admin doesn't need to input the password everytime he needs to change something else. For this i have made an extra action / view. My problem is that when i update the user info, i get password validation errors even though i have no password field in the form. Which leads me to the conclusion that partial_updates isn't working with the password attribute (as i have already tested in the console that it is enabled, and it is) Is this me doing something wrong, or should i approach this differently?

• Calling finish() After Starting a New Activity

  The first Activity that loads in my application is an initialization activity, and once complete it loads a new Activity. I want to ensure if the user presses 'Back' they go straight to the Launcher, and not the initialization screen. Side note, is this even the best approach, or would this be better done with some kind of Intent Flag? Is it correct to call finish() after calling startActivity() on the new activity? onCreate() { ... startActivity(new Intent(this, NextActivity.class)); finish(); ... } I'm still taking in the whole 'Message Queue' method of doing things in Android, and my assumption is that calling startActivity() and then finish() from my first Activity's onCreate() will log each respective message in the message queue, but finish execution of onCreate() before moving on to starting the next Activity and finishing my first one. Is this a correct understanding?

• Lucene case sensitive & insensitive search

  I have a Lucene index which is currently case sensitive. I want to add the option of having a case insensitive search as a fall-back. This means that results that match the case will get more weight and will appear first. For example, if the number of results is limited to 10, and there are 10 matches which match my case, this is enough. If I only found 7 results, I can add 3 more results from the case-insensitive search. My case is actually more complex, since I have items with different weights. Ideally, having a match with "wrong" case will add some weight. Needless to say, I do not want duplicate results. One possible approach is to have 2 indexes. One with case and one without and search both. Naturally, there's some redundancy here, since I need to index twice. Is there a better solution? Ideas?

  Hi All, Is there an elegant way to make a program detect a new computer that is connected to the network? I would like my program to "auto-sense" a new computer being connected on the network (they're on the same network). Like a USB device being connected to the computer. What I'm doing now is to save a list of all computers in the network from time to time. Another approach is to PING all available IPs on the subnet. Are there any other elegant approaches? Thanks!

• Entity Framework 4 and 0:1, 0:1 relationships

  I'm using the Model First approach with EF 4 and hit a snag with two tables, Participant (singular because pre-existing from another app) and ActiveParticipants. A Participant may or may not be associated with exactly one ActiveParticipant and vice versa. When I create an association, everything seems to go well on the surface, but then I get a runtime error complaining that Participant does not contain the column ActiveParticipant_Id. It does contain a column ActiveParticipantId (no underscore). When I view the diagram as XML, there's a line like this: <Property Name="ActiveParticipant_Id" Type="uniqueidentifier" Nullable="true" /> Why is it adding an underscore? Is there anything special I need to do for 0:1, 0:1 relationships?

• How to add javascript to YII correctly?

  I want to create several javascript function that will be needed on different pages. Most will be relevant only to one page, but some to several. I know if I add general conversion functions, it would be a good idea to just create a new javascript file and put all these generic functions into that one file. Bringing me to my first question: Where would you store the generic javascript file? In "protected"? Which subfolder? Then, I need to address the placement of other javascript code. If I have javascript that will only be used on one page, should I use this technique or should I stick to a similar approach as above? The emphasis is on doing it correctly. I want to fall exactly in line with the yii framework.

• Stacking multiple slideshows using Jquery

  Hi, JQuery newbie here! I'm having difficulty stacking more than one slideshow with each it's own individual controls. The one slideshow works just fine. • Need help with a sub query/group/order (get latest comment for each ordered topic)

  Hey guys I have a query that currently finds the latest comment for each of a user's topics and then orders topics by that comment's timestamp. What I want to do is expand on this query's use and print the latest comment for each topic. The problem with this query is that while it orders the topics correctly, it prints seemingly random comments for each topic. I am trying to implement a sub query but I am not quite sure how to approach it. I was thinking that I just had to somehow use this query to get the comments. If anyone has any ideas I would really appreciate it.   The Rules: An employee accrues 8 hours of Paid Time Off on the day after each quarter. Quarters, specifically being: Jan 1 - Mar 31 Apr 1 - Jun 30 Jul 1 - Sep 30 Oct 1 - Dec 31 The Problem Employees will use an automated system to request paid time off, possibly occurring in the past, as well as the future. Requests should only be accepted if the employee has (or will have) that time available. For instance, if an employee only has 1 Day of Paid Time Off currently available (currently being January 20th), but is requesting 2 Days of Paid Time Off, beginning September 20th, the system should take into account that the employee would have accrued enough time off by then and allow the request. (Obviously ignoring that the employee may use up existing time before that date). I'm currently using Python, and wondering what the correct approach to something like this would be. I'm assuming that using DateTime objects, and possibly the dateutil module, would help here, but my brain isn't wrapping around this problem for some reason.

• How do I change the background image of my app?

  Hello I have looked around and found some code which so called chooses an image from an array of image objects, but cant find an explanation. I would like to make my app have a background image and the user can select next and previous buttons to scroll through some full screen images, setting them as the background image as they scroll. I know how to do this in java, but cant seem to do it for this app. How or what code is linked to a next button to grab the next image in the array and reverse for the back button? Then that needs to be displayed obviously. I have used a layered architecture with a MVC style approach but cant seem to put it together with Objective-C. Would the buttons call the appropriate methods of the so called delegates, which the delegates handle fetching and returning the Images? Would the buttons use the returned images and actually handle the redrawing? I would really appreciate the help. Regards Jarryd

  Hi everyone I am new to mongo, this is my db design: product := { name: str group: ref, comments: [ ref, ref, ref, ref ] } comments := { ... a bunch of comments stuff } tag := { _id: int, #Need this for online requests tag: str, products: [ {product: ref, score: float}, ... ], comments: [ {comment: ref, score: float}, ...], } So my usage pattern is: GIVEN a product, find comments that have certain tag and sort them accordingly. My current approach involves: Look for that tag object that has tag=myTag pull all the comments out, sorted look for that product where product.name=myProduct pull all the comments out (which are dbrefs by the way) loop through the result of 2, and checking if they are in 4, (this I can do a limit 10) etc. It's pretty inefficient. Any better methods?

  I have a legacy C library, written in an OO type form. Typical functions are like: LIB *lib_new(); void lib_free(LIB *lib); int lib_add_option(LIB *lib, int flags); void lib_change_name(LIB *lib, char *name); I'd like to use this library in my C++ program, so I'm thinking a C++ wrapper is required. The above would all seem to map to something like: class LIB { public: LIB(); ~LIB(); int add_option(int flags); void change_name(char *name); ... }; I've never written a C++ wrapper round C before, and can't find much advice about it. Is this a good/typical/sensible approach to creating a C++/C wrapper?

  Hi, I have this app I'm working on, which on a second view asks (textfield) the name for a button to be created on first view. After specifying the name and pressing OK button, the first view pops up (as demanded) but there's no new button, although created indeed. Can I use the following code in a second view method, to "refresh" the first view before presenting itself. What's wrong with this code? Any other approach? • Want to 'sandbox' user form submitted HTML

  Hi all. I have a user form with a textarea that allows users to submit html formatted data. The html itself is limited by PHP strip_tags, but of course that does no completion checking etc. My basic problem is that should a user leave a tag unclosed, such as the tag, then all the content following that, including page content that follows that is 'outside' the user content display area, could now be malformed. Checking for proper tag completion is one solution I will look at, but ideally I'd like to firewall the user htmlified content away from the rest of the site somehow. Any suggestions on the best approach? Thanks!

I want to change Text property of each control. Because HyperLink doesn't implement (why??)   I want to be able to search within the commit logs of svn. I know you can do that on tortoise, but couldn't find a way using the command line. We are moving to a two-tiered repository approach, so that the stable branch will only get stories fully completed and tested. To achieve that, we would need a way to search within the commit messages for the story code (eg:#s1322) and get a list of the revisions to be used in a subsequent merge command. Ex: searchsvnapp http://[repo location root] #s1322 result: 4233,4249,4313

  I have the following C# Class/Function: class Hand { private List<Card> myCards = new List<Card>(); public void sortBySuitValue() { IEnumerable<Card> query = from s in myCards orderby (int)s.suit, (int)s.value select s; myCards = new List<Card>(); myCards.AddRange(query); } } On a card Game. This works fine, however, I had trouble at first, instead of using myCards = new List(); to 'reset' myCards, I would use myCards.clear(), however, once I called the clear function, I would not be able to call myCards.add() or myCards.addRange(). The count would stay at zero. Is my current approach good? Is using LINQ to sort my cards good/bad?
