• How can I represent URL (possibly including query string) as a filename in Java without obscuring the original URL?

  Is there any real way to represent a URL (which more than likely will also have a query string) as a filename in Java without obscuring the original URL completely? My first approach was to simply escape invalid characters with arbitrary replacements (for example, replacing "/" with "_", etc). The problem is, as in the example of replacing with underscores is that a URL such as "app/my_app" would become "app_my_app" thus obscuring the original URL completely. I have also attempted to encode all the special characters, however again, seeing crazy %3e %20 etc is really not clear. Thank you for any suggestions.

  I have inherited a very long set of macros from some C algorithm code.They basically call free on a number of structures as the function exits either abnormally or normally. I would like to replace these with something more debuggable and readable. Should I just leave well alone if it works? This macro set is called twelve times in one function. I'm on Linux with gcc.

Lets say you have an image of a a few trees in say jpg format. How would you go about finding the heights of each of these trees. The photo is the only input you have.   I'm using FILE type in my MFC project but after compiled, it shows the following errors: Error 23 error C4430: missing type specifier - int assumed. Note: C++ does not support default-int Error 24 error C4430: missing type specifier - int assumed. Note: C++ does not support default-int Error 22 error C2146: syntax error : missing ';' before identifier 'm_pFileW' Those errors are referring to this code: FILE *m_pFileW; Did I missing any library header to use FILE syntax? Do I need to use different approach and replace FILE syntax? This errors are only generated when I placed it into my MFC project. This is not happening in C++ Console. Please help. Thank you.

The approach I am considering is for each string look at all other strings and find the common characters and where differing characters are, trying to find sets of strings that have the most in common, but I fear that this is not very efficient and may give false positives. Note that this is not the same as 'How do I detect groups of common strings in filenames' because that assumes that a string will always have a series of digits following it. • Distribution of many small classes

  Hi All, I have a base class called EventArgs. Derived from this are many, many specializations that represent event arguments for a particular kind of event. Consumers of these events may need some, many, or very few of these argument classes. My question is, would you provide a header file for each type (e.g, 50+ header files for the varying ones), would you try to group them in to families and have a 'common' header file for those, or would you throw caution to the window and throw them in to one easy-of-use header file that can just be included? Another approach might be to have 50 header files, and then I could introduce some "family" header files that included particular ones. Not sure about the naming conventions for these kinds of things so it is obvious what is where. I know there may not be a hard and fast rule, but wondering what other developers have done when they find themselves writing many little classes. Thanks in advance.

So i get error that says: this.getHoveredObject is not a function What is correct approach at that stuation?

• How can I find if an arbitrary process is running under wow64?

  I need a tool which will discover whether an arbitrary process is running in x86 or x64 mode on a machine. I need to do this programatically from C++, based on a process ID. There has to be some way to do this (as you can clearly see it from the task manager). Does anyone know of a windows api that will tell you, given a process ID, whether the application is running under wow64? Another approach would be to figure out, based on the process id, the executable name/path that is running and try to read the PE headers out of the file. Does anyone have a code snippet that would accomplish that?

Another requirement is that each of those fields be a different font and color. For that reason, I was thinking of creating labels and attaching them to the cell but I haven't had much luck getting this working. My question is, can this be done? However when the data gets saved to db, ActiveRecord appends "--- " to each status. So when I retrieve back the status is screwed. What should be the correct approach?

  Is there a good way in Django to convert an entire model to a dictionary? I mean, like this: class DictModel(models.Model): key = models.CharField(20) value = models.CharField(200) DictModel.objects.all().to_dict() ... with the result being a dictionary with the key/value pairs made up of records in the Model? • Is there any way around the Chrome 5 breakage of Ajax for local files?

  The recent Chrome 5.0 release completely blocks XMLHTTPRequest requests for local files comming from a local file. Here is just one of the many related bug reports and here is the code change (there is also a SO question caused by this). This breaks a lot of production code, e.g. for documentation systems. Users must be able to browse local documentation without the need to install anything or run executables. My question is if there is any way around this restriction? I'm only interested in solutions that don't require any fancy actions on the users side (nothing beyond a confirmation dialog). Is there any way the HTML5 File API could be used, or maybe postMessage()? Of course this whole issue is very frustrating for many people. Firefox takes a fare more reasonable approach and allows requests inside the directory. So it seems unlikely that other browser vendors will follow Chrome.

  Hello Guys, I am playing around with CouchDB to test if it is "possible" [1] to store scientific data (simulated and experimental raw data + metadata). A big pro is the schema-less approach of CouchDB: we have to be very flexible with the metadata, as the set of parameters changes very often. Up to now I have some code to feed raw data, plots (both as attachments), and hierarchical metadata (as JSON) into CouchDB documents, and have written some prototype Javascript for filtering and showing. But the filtering is done on the client side (a.k.a. browser): The map function simply returns everything. How could I change the (or push a second) map function of a specific _design-document with simple browser-JS? I do not think that a temporary view would yield any performance gain... • reading files provided via $_GET

  I have a php script which takes a relative pathname via $_GET, reads that file and creates a thumbnail of it. I dont want the user to be able to read any file from the server. Only files from a certain directory should be allowed, otherwiese the script should exit(). Here is my folder structure: files/ <-- all files from this folder are public my_stuff/ <-- this is the folder of my script that reads the files My script is accessed via mydomain.com/my_stuff/script.php?pathname=files/some.jpg. What should not be allowed e. g.: mydomain.com/my_stuff/script.php?pathname=files/../db_login.php So, here is the relevant part of the script in my_stuff folder: ... $pathname = $_GET['pathname']; $pathname = realpath('../' . $_GET['pathname']); if(strpos($pathname, '/files/') === false) exit('Error'); ... I am not really sure about that approach, doesnt seem too safe for me. Anyone with a better idea?

• Best way to handle different panels occupying same area

  I have this application: I want to change the marked area when the user is clicked one of the navBarItems (like Microsoft OUTLOOK). I've been doing some research and a lot of people said that I can add several panels and show/hide them when user is clicked a navBarItem. But the area will contain a lot of gridviews and a lot of other controls. I don't know if I want to initialize all of them when application starts because it's gonna be hard on the cpu and memory to keep all the controls running at the same time. And I don't think it's an elegant solution for this kind of situation. But if I choose to initialize controls when user is clicked to corresponding navBarItem, it's gonna be laggy for the user. What is the best design approach for this situation? PS: I can use commercial libraries too. Thank you.

I want the process of merging files,running R and then storing to HBase to run continuosly on the downloaded data. For running R,we are running R script from java program.We have used Runtime.getRuntime().exec() method to run R program but it doesn't wait for R program to complete and method in the next line starts executing.Using p.waitFor() did not help . What approach should I use to do merge then run R and finally store results in Hbase?Should I use timer class??

  We have a requirement of reading/writing more than 10 million strings into a file. Also we do not want duplicates in the file. Since the strings would be flushed to a file as soon as they are read we are not maintaining it in memory. We cannot use hashcode because of collisions in the hash code due to which we might miss a string as duplicate. Two other approaches i found in my googling: 1.Use a message digest algorithm like MD5 - but it might be too costly to calculate and store. 2.Use a checksum algorithm. [i am not sure if this produces a unique key for a string- can someone please confirm] Is there any other approach avaiable. Thanks.

  For me, compact discs and these customized auto-start dialogs are somewhat outdated and waste... However, I have to create such a dialog as an index for a CD consisting of a few PDF files. Making one to work on Microsoft Windows is quite easy. As there might be users from different platforms (Unix, Apple,...), the question raises how to offer them such a (auto-starting) dialog as well. Java is of course an option, but I think it's overloaded and naturally too slow for this purpose. Now, I think of a single webpage that will appear in the local browser. Using all these web standards this could a very creative, light-weight approach working on most systems. Do you see any problems that might occur here? Probably, there is a different and more elegant solution to this issue?
