• phpBB - Reducing Spam

  I've installed phpBB Forums last week and the past 2 days I've been getting users sign up and posting spam chinese emails on each topic. I have:- Added captcha on registration Made sure users have to verify subscription by email before allowing to post What else can I do to stop this from happening? I've banned their IP addresses but this doesn't stop them from using a proxy to keep spamming the forums. I've read I can block all chinese IP addresses through ACP but is this the best step to block all this? Seems to be all chinese spam at the minute, any help would be much appreciated.

• Should I design and then look for a CMS or vice versa? [closed]

  I am currently designing an e-commerce site, and unfortunately my PHP is garbage at the moment so open source CMS's are out of the question. I am debating between Joomla and Big Commerce and as the title states I am unsure of whether to build first or try the CMS first to see what limitations I will face. I have seen that Koha and Evergreen needs root access and does not meet compatibility standard on my hosting package. Is there any good open source ones that can be ran with PHP and MySQL and community maintained and updated?

• Which is the best way to catch an expiring domain name? [closed]

  I know a similar question has been asked, but I really don't know what to do. There is this .com domain which is currently on redemption period and should likely be available again within a month. I was wondering which is the best way to get it at a reasonable price. I don't think it's a highly valuable domain, it shows to have very bad ranking and has 0 exact same searches according to adwords. Why it is valuable to me is very simple: I have a project responding to this name. I already own the .net domain and would love to have the .com. I discovered the domain was going to be available thanks to an email I received by a backorder site. I did some research and these guys have a bad reputation on the web. I did further research and found that more reputable (at least in theory) companies should be the likes of snapnames, pool, namejet, godaddy, etc. I am a bit suspicious using these drop cathing services: What if they shill bids? What if they make it go into auction even if I'm the only person interested? What if I raise attention and interest to the domain by backordering? I just would rather wait for it to be deleted and available again to register it manually. It is really not an interesting domain name, and I don't think anyone would care to have it. But what if the domain is already being watched by the domain industry sharks? I did a whois research and my desired domain nameserves point to domcollect.com, which appears to be an auction site. What if I decide to wait for manual registration and I miss the chance to get it? I'm willing to spend the 60/70$ fees these sites require, but not really more than that. Suggestions? Thank you very much. I'm a bit confused and undecided.

• Webcam Q&A page with guest "speakers" ideas?

  I want to host one way webcam Q&A's/AMA's and embed it on my sites webpage. I must be able to have specified hosts for these Q&A's connect quickly and easily to the webpage, and read user posted messages (questions) for interaction. I know there are some systems out there, like tinychat, but I'm unaware if there is anything exactly used for what I am looking for. Perhaps requiring a specific account/password before allowing streaming on the page, where I can email the host a password or directions to create an account to begin live streaming. Most of these people doing the question and answers on webcam will have little technical knowledge, so extra cookie points goes to ease of use! Thanks for ideas in advance! • SEO Influenc search result per device class (mobile/desktop)

  We're currently building a new responsive website and while working on the site map figured that we don't want to show certain sections on mobile devices. This can be easily done by hiding the navigation parts using css/media queries. However, trouble is that the hidden sites would still show up in search engines' search results. If a user happens to click on one of these links she might happen to see a badly formatted page as we'd use desktop/tablet only code to show images and video. Is there any way to "influence" to exclude certain pages if the search is done on a mobile device? Do search engines crawl pages once or with a device specific view twice? Could we set a noindex meta tag for a specific device class?

• External link tracking when opening the link in a new window in Google Analytics?

  OK, so this seems like a really simply problem, but I have yet to find a solution that accomplishes the following: Opens the link in a new window Tracks the event in GA (obviously) Doesn't trigger pop-up blockers (uses target="_blank" instead of window.open) Most of the code I've seen, including Google's, doesn't take into account the case of opening in a new window - they just window location.href. Even GAAddons (http://gaaddons.com/), which charges for commercial use, doesn't seem to work for me. Perhaps, I'm missing something simple - I'd be relieved if so and would thank profusely whoever points it out to me! If no one is able to provide an example, I'll post some of the test cases I've created to illustrate the problem. Thanks.

  So I have this code and I need it to only redirect when the correct password is added. Only problem is that I dont know what to add that will make it only redirect if the password is "hello" I understand that using "view-source" would reveal the password, I don't mind that, its the way I want it. I basically just need to know what to add and where to add it. Sooo: Redirects if "hello" is typed into password field.   Are there any services that sell 'packs' of domain names? What I'm looking for is a service that will allow me to buy, for example, 50 random domain names. I don't care what the names are, they could be kjsgadkj286.mobi for all I care. Does anything like this exist? I am not interested in registering them myself. I thought that maybe domain squatters or someone similar might have leftover worthless names they want to get rid of.

• Is there any problem with using two slashes in the middle of a URL? [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: What does the double slash mean in URLs? I'm working on a mod_rewrite URL structure as follows: http://example.com/search/filter1/filter2/filter3/filter4 There are some conditions where it is OK for the first attribute to be blank, but i want to keep the other attributes in the same position. (Otherwise I can't assume that the attribute in the second position represents what I want it to represent.) However this results in some URLs like this: http://example.com/search//filter2/filter3/filter4 This seems to work in all browsers I've tested (Chrome,Firefox,IE9,IE compatible) and I'm not seeing any errors on the server side, so I can't think of any problems in using it. But it just looks wrong and weird to me and I'm not used to seeing it. Are there any potential downsides to using a structure that encourages URLs like this, or any major reasons no one seems to use it? (Everything I search in Google assumes I'm talking about the two slashes after http:)

• Google Analytics Request URI to Event advanced filter

  I have a query string attached to a Request URI. Whilst I can see this data within the pages report and it works, I was thinking about setting up an advanced filter to convert the request URI to an Event, with the hope this would clean up my pages report and sit this query with related events in my data. I can see in advanced filters that this is possible, but seems limited to specifying a single event area, so Cat, action or Label, not all 3. Does any one know how I could set up an advanced filter to find any URIs that contain a specific query string, say example below. www.example.com?querystring=123 and convert this into an event, where I can set the Cat, action and label.

• Should my web app have its own domain name?

  I'm going to get a domain name for my personal web page. It will contain my blog, photos and other personal stuff, plus different web apps and tools that I'm working on. I have put quite a lot of work in one of the web apps, and I think it has great potential. It covers a niche in a way that no other page has done before and I can see great possibilities to expand it. Via links to webstores and ads I think it could even make some money, and if I play it right this could be the place to go when you're into the specific niche that it covers (sorry for being so vague). My question is, would it be better for a (potentially great) web app like this to have its own domain name (nameofmyapp.com) instead of being a subpage of my personal page (mypersonaldomain.com/nameofmyapp)? Is the web app more likely to be found by others, via Google etc, with its own domain name? Could a "subpage" give more attention (visitors) to my personal page? pros and cons?

  I had an old domain with a WordPress setup hosted by GoDaddy. I changed the business name and moved everything over to a new site, new domain, and new host a couple of years ago. I let the old domain expire. It was recently purchased by someone for cheap, article spun content. Now, anytime they post a new article, it's automatically posted to my Twitter account. I contacted them to remove this, but given the quality of their spun articles, I doubt they will remove it. Is there any recourse I have through Twitter or the host to get this removed?

• CentOS drive mapping? [on hold]

  This is the first time I am posting on this particular StackExchange forum and I hope that I am using the right one for the present question. Briefly, this is what I need to do I am running a web service where users can, amongst other things, upload and store files on the server. What I want to do is to hive off user file storage to a different location so my server (CentOS 64 bit) can concentrate on what it does best - server side scripting and database management. As things stand all user files go into subdirectories in a folder called stash that lies above DOC_ROOT. What I would like to do is Transparently detect all attempts to read/write to stash/sub_folder and get/set file data on a remote server - ideally the latter would be one which replicates files like a CDN so they can be delivered from the closest/fastest location based on where the user's location. Even nicer would be if for all read accesses I could provide a URL that allows the user's browser to fetch the relevant file directly without having to funnel them via my server. I am a relative newbie when it comes to this sort of thing so I hope that I have phrased this question adequately well. From the little searching I done I gathered that WebDAV can be used to map drives to a different location on the web so perhaps that is a starting point. But if that will work I need to Establish how to get WebDAV up and running on my CentOS 64 bit server. Ideally, identify a service that allows this kind of file storage and provides an API I can use in my own scripting. I'd much appreciate any help with this.

• How to Automate Checking for Stolen Content?

  So I know about tools like Copyscape and Google Alerts.. great tools, but it's quite tedious for me to copy and paste an URL or phrase for every one of my pages in my sites. Is there any tool out there that monitors your website and emails you or alerts you whenever someone has stolen content from your site? The only service I know is CopySentry and honestly, it's too expensive for me since I got thousands of pages I want to monitor... Anyone else have this problem? or is it just me? Currently we don't have anything to measure site usage, but I would like to use Google Analytics to track usage and statistics about our users. What data is sent to Google when you use Analytics? If I put this on a page that contains any of the above information, will that data be sent to Google? Or are they just getting the necessary information like user agent and IP address?

  Anyone know of a reputable domain name company which deals in .museum domain names? Previously we had used DomainBank without much issue. DomainBank was bought by Dotster and am having nothing but trouble since the switch. Currently the website has been down for two days and it is a MAJOR issue. I know .museum is a seldom used domain name but I really need to switch to a reputable company. GoDaddy doesn't work with them unfortunately. Anyone know of a good company that does?

  Sometimes it can be for example 4500 requests, after a few hours it shows a few thousand less. What is wrong? It looks like analytics corrects itself. I changed from classic to Universal a few months ago, do not know if it has anything to do with this. This search cannot be based on local database, as it needs live data (of available domains). The only possible way (to me) is to fetch every query from the original NIC (e.g. nic.com), but I was unable to find an API for this service.   On the previous version of Facebook Pages I was able to specify in which language (or even countries) I wanted to publish a post. I've searched a LOT of time everywhere and I do not find anything like that since the timeline has landed on Facebook Pages. Do you know how I could publish something on a Facebook Page but only for ONE language? Because publishing things in several languages could get the "page fans" angry (too many new items that they could not read) and unlike the page. • Dropbox and IIS

  I'm running into the problem of using Dropbox and IIS. I am using the Dropbox Folder Sync plugin to sync a folder outside the Dropbox folder. They are synced into my inetpub\root\downloads\ directory. The problem is not that it doesn't sync. The problem is that the files that get synced have no permissions attached to them. I can't open any of them on IIS. Initially the downloads were to be only PDFs but they don't open so I tried an .ASPX file and it fails to load as well. Is there any way around this or another program I can use to sync files but allow them to be opened on an IIS server. Thanks for any help!

• Site loads Extremely slowly over HTTPS; loads perfectly over HTTP - Sudden and new issue

  My business' website suddenly started loading extremely slowly over HTTPS last night and continues through today. The facts: Page loadtime via HTTPS - 2 minutes +, HTTP - 3 seconds max. NO updates were done on any site files in the past 2 weeks. This is on Shared Hosting HTTPS has worked perfectly over the past 9 months then suddenly failed yesterday. Hosting company and SSL issuer say there are no problems on their end. - Searches for others having similar issues return no results, it appears to be just me... Site is primarily run via php/mysql Currently attempted troubleshooting: Tried all major browsers and different versions - same result. Tried 2 separate ISPs - same result. Tried proxies - same result. Tried 3 separate computers - same result. I'm basically at a total loss here. Does anyone know what could cause such a thing to happen? Please help guide troubleshooting.
