  • How would you handle making an array or list that would have more entries than the standard implemen

    - by faceless1_14
I am trying to create an array or list that could handle in theory, given adequate hardware and such, as many as 100^100 BigInteger entries. The problem with using an array or standard list is that they can only hold Integer.MAX_VALUE number of entries. How would you work around this limitations? A whole new class/interface? A wrapper for list? another data type entirely?

  • C# Process flow - Datastream, XML and datagrid

    - by Farstucker
Im looking for some advice/suggestions on how I should setup the work flow of a small application Im building. When the application is launched the datagrid will be populated via the XML file. Once running the application will receive a datastream that I hope to update the file and datagrid. So Im curious what you would suggest on how I setup the workflow (ie, split the data from the data stream and simultaneously populate the file and grid or would you suggest populating the XML file first and setting up a timer to have the grid read the file?) Im really looking for optimal performance.

  • Convert doc/docx to semantic HTML

    - by sandstrom
I would like to convert doc/docx documents to semantic HTML. Some wishes/requirements: Semantic HTML such that headers in the document are <h1>, <h2> etc., tables are <table> and so forth. Should preferably be possible to handle headings, lists, tables and images. Graphs and math formulas is a nice extra. • Doesn't have to be converted straight from doc/docx to html, could use an intermediary format, such as xml or docbook. • Should work programatically, and with large number of documents. The closest thing to a solution I've found so far is http://holloway.co.nz/docvert/index.html, but unfortunately there are many a few bugs, small user base and it can't handle a lot of documents. More of a proof of concept.

  • iPhone Options for reading item from XML?

    - by fuzzygoat
I am accessing this data from a web server using NSURL, what I am trying to decide is should I read this as XML or should I just use NSScanner and rip out the [data] bit I need. I have looked around the web for examples of extracting fields from XML on the iPhone but it all seems a bit overkill for what I need. Can anyone make any suggestions or point me in the right direction. In an ideal world I would really like to just specify [data] and get a string back "2046 3433 5674 3422 4456 8990 1200 5284" <!DOCTYPE tubinerotationdata> <turbine version="1.0"> <status version="1.0" result="200">OK</status> <data version="1.0"> 2046 3433 5674 3422 4456 8990 1200 5284 </data> </turbine> any comments / ideas are much appreciated. gary

  • Binary search in a sorted (memory-mapped ?) file in Java

    - by sds
I am struggling to port a Perl program to Java, and learning Java as I go. A central component of the original program is a Perl module that does string prefix lookups in a +500 GB sorted text file using binary search (essentially, "seek" to a byte offset in the middle of the file, backtrack to nearest newline, compare line prefix with the search string, "seek" to half/double that byte offset, repeat until found...) I have experimented with several database solutions but found that nothing beats this in sheer lookup speed with data sets of this size. Do you know of any existing Java library that implements such functionality? Failing that, could you point me to some idiomatic example code that does random access reads in text files? Alternatively, I am not familiar with the new (?) Java I/O libraries but would it be an option to memory-map the 500 GB text file (I'm on a 64-bit machine with memory to spare) and do binary search on the memory-mapped byte array? I would be very interested to hear any experiences you have to share about this and similar problems.

  • How to decompress/inflate an XML response from ASP

    - by krisg
Can anyone provide some insight into how i'd go about decompressing an XML response in classic ASP. We've been handed some code and asked to get it working: Set oXMLHttp = Server.CreateObject("MSXML2.ServerXMLHTTP") URL = HttpServer + re_domain + ".do;jsessionid=" + ue_session + "?" + data oXMLHttp.setTimeouts 5000, 60000, 1200000, 1200000 oXMLHttp.open "GET", URL, false oXMLHttp.setRequestHeader "Accept-Encoding", "gzip" oXMLHttp.send() if oXMLHttp.status = 200 Then if oXMLHttp.responseText = "" then htmlrequest_get = "Empty Response from Server" else htmlrequest_get = oXMLHttp.responseText end if else ... Apparently now that the response is compressed using gzip, we have to un-compress the XML response before we can start to work with the data. How should i go about this?

  • Looking for the most painless non-RDBMS storage method in C#

    - by NateD
I'm writing a simple program that will run entirely client-side. (Desktop programming? do people still do that?) and I need a simple way to store trivial amounts of data in a structured form, but really don't see any need to use a database system. What's more, some of the data needs to be serialized and passed around to different users, like some kind of "file" or perhaps a "document". (has anyone ever done that before?) So, I've looked at using .Net DataSets, LINQ, direct XML manipulation, and they all seem like they would get the job done, but I would like to know before I dive into any of them if there's one method that is generally regarded as easier to code than others. As I said, the amount of data to be stored is trivial, even if one hundred people all used the same machine we're not talking about more than 10 MB, so performance is not as large a concern as is codeability/maintainability. Thank you all in advance!

  • Struts2: Validation between 2 dates (By -validation.xml)

  • Current state of client-side XSLT

    - by Casey
Last I heard, Blizzard was one of the few companies to put client-side XSLT into practice (2008). Is this still the case in 2011, or are more people now exploring this technique in production?  It seems that modern browsers (IE9, FF4, Chrome) and client processing power are primed to exploit this standard for tangible savings in server CPU power and bandwidth on large scale properties. Am I missing something? The negative aspects I'm aware of include * additional rendering time * additional assets required on uncached page load * additional layer of complexity * noticably less developer experience than server-side template techniques The benefits I perceive include * distributed template composition (offloaded on the client) * caching of common template fragments offloaded on the client * logical separation of document structure and data * well-documented web standard supported by all modern browsers Finally, although I know it's impossible to predict the future, I am curious to know opinions on whether or not client-side XSLT's day will come. With interest in HTML5 driving users to upgrade their browsers and developers to explore new techniques, I would say yes. How about you? Thanks in advance, Casey

  • search & replace on 3000 row, 25 column spreadsheet

    - by Deca
I'm attempting to clean up data in this (old) spreadsheet and need to remove things like single and double quotes, HTML tags and so on. Trouble is, it's a 3000 row file with 25 columns and every spreadsheet app I've tried (NeoOffice, MS Excel, Apple Numbers) chokes on it. Hard. Any ideas on how else I can clean this thing up for import to MySQL? Clearly I could go through each record manually, row by row, but would like to avoid that if at all possible. Likewise, I could write a PHP script to handle it on import, but don't want to put the server into a death spiral either.

  • How do quickly search through a .csv file in Python

    - by Baldur
I'm reading a 6 million entry .csv file with Python, and I want to be able to search through this file for a particular entry. Are there any tricks to search the entire file? Should you read the whole thing into a dictionary or should you perform a search every time? I tried loading it into a dictionary but that took ages so I'm currently searching through the whole file every time which seems wasteful. Could I possibly utilize that the list is alphabetically ordered? (e.g. if the search word starts with "b" I only search from the line that includes the first word beginning with "b" to the line that includes the last word beginning with "b") I'm using import csv. (a side question: it is possible to make csv go to a specific line in the file? I want to make the program start at a random line) Edit: I already have a copy of the list as an .sql file as well, how could I implement that into Python?

  • Can not set Character Encoding using sun-web.xml

    - by stck777
I am trying to send special characters like spanish chars from my page to a JSP page as a form parameter. When I try get the parameter which I sent, it shows that as "?" (Question mark). After searching on java.net thread I came to know that I should have following entry in my sun-web.xml <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!DOCTYPE sun-web-app PUBLIC "-//Sun Microsystems, Inc.//DTD Sun ONE Application Server 8.0 Servlet 2.4//EN" "http://www.sun.com/software/sunone/appserver/dtds/sun-web-app_2_4-0.dtd"> <sun-web-app> <locale-charset-info default-locale="es"> <locale-charset-map locale="es" charset="UTF-8"/> <parameter-encoding default-charset="UTF-8"/> </locale-charset-info> </sun-web-app> But it did not work with this approach still the character goes as "?".

  • iPad/iPhone: Form filling application pointers

    - by raj.tiwari
Folks, I am starting work on an iPad/iPhone application that is essentially a form-filing UI. The requirement is to present a (rather large) form to the user. The form is composed of sections and questions, like so: Form Question 0.1 Question 0.2 Section 1 Question 1.1 etc. The user can take various paths down the form based on answers to questions. I would like to architect this by defining a declarative markup that can be used to author the form questionnaire including traversal rules. My questions are: Can anyone recommend a markup/language that would satisfy the declaration requirement? Is there any existing library that would ease the implementation as described above? Thanks for your time.

  • load complex class/nested xml file into dataset

    - by iTayb
    I want to create a dataset and bind it with a repeater. My datasource is a class, which is itself loaded from an nested xml file. I can use both as datasources. How can I do it? This is my sample XML file: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <BookStore xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xmlns:xsd="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <Book> <Name>??????? ????? 035006</Name> <Imageurl>math1.jpg</Imageurl> <Subject>???????</Subject> <Author>??? ????</Author> <Level>5</Level> <Year>2002</Year> <Rating>4</Rating> <BookSellers> <string>????? ?????</string> <string>?.?. ????? ??"?</string> <string>??? ?? ???? ????? ??????? ??"?</string> <string>?? ?????? ???? ?'????</string> <string>???? ??? ?????</string> <string>Garbage Collector</string> <string>???? ??????? ??????</string> </BookSellers> <BookPrices> <double>25</double> <double>48</double> <double>37</double> <double>52</double> <double>34</double> <double>22</double> <double>60</double> </BookPrices> </Book> </BookStore> Plus, how will I refer to this data? for example, DataBinder.Eval(Container.DataItem, "Imageurl" will bring me the url? Thank you very much!

  • How to give dynamic file name in the appender in log4j.xml

    - by Bittu
Hi I am using log4j.xml to log the informations. I have used log4j.xml file for creating the log files. I have given the absolute path for each log file in param tag value. eg : appender name="FA" class="org.apache.log4j.DailyRollingFileAppender" param name="DatePattern" value="'_'yyyyMMdd"/ param name="File" value="D:/logFiles/GPreprocessor.log"/ layout class="com.dnb.genericpreprocessor.common.log.AppXMLLayout"/ /appender I do not want to give "GPreprocessor.log" directly.Actually that file name is dynamic based on my project. However the location will always remain same as "D:/logFiles/" . Please help me in this as this is very urgent and important for me.

  • XML strings in JAXB

    - by OOO
I have a JPA entity class mimicking a table. Something like this: @XmlType(name="MyClassElementType") public class MyClass { String name; String xmlDesc; public MyClass() {} @XmlElement String getName() { return name; } void setName(String name) { this.name = name; } @XmlElement String getXmlDesc() { return xmlDesc; } void setXmlDesc(String xmlDesc) { this.xmlDesc = xmlDesc; } } In a Jersey REST get call I'm trying to return this class: @Get @Produces("application/xml") public MyClass get() { return myClass; } Now I'm expecting the already xml string(xmlStr) to be returned as is, but Jersey/JAXB escapes it... So anyway around this?

  • Performing Aggregate Functions on Multi-Million Row Tables

    - by Daniel Short
    I'm having some serious performance issues with a multi-million row table that I feel I should be able to get results from fairly quick. Here's a run down of what I have, how I'm querying it, and how long it's taking: I'm running SQL Server 2008 Standard, so Partitioning isn't currently an option I'm attempting to aggregate all views for all inventory for a specific account over the last 30 days. All views are stored in the following table: CREATE TABLE [dbo].[LogInvSearches_Daily]( [ID] [bigint] IDENTITY(1,1) NOT NULL, [Inv_ID] [int] NOT NULL, [Site_ID] [int] NOT NULL, [LogCount] [int] NOT NULL, [LogDay] [smalldatetime] NOT NULL, CONSTRAINT [PK_LogInvSearches_Daily] PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED ( [ID] ASC )WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON, FILLFACTOR = 90) ON [PRIMARY] ) ON [PRIMARY] This table has 132,000,000 records, and is over 4 gigs. A sample of 10 rows from the table: ID Inv_ID Site_ID LogCount LogDay -------------------- ----------- ----------- ----------- ----------------------- 1 486752 48 14 2009-07-21 00:00:00 2 119314 51 16 2009-07-21 00:00:00 3 313678 48 25 2009-07-21 00:00:00 4 298863 0 1 2009-07-21 00:00:00 5 119996 0 2 2009-07-21 00:00:00 6 463777 534 7 2009-07-21 00:00:00 7 339976 503 2 2009-07-21 00:00:00 8 333501 570 4 2009-07-21 00:00:00 9 453955 0 12 2009-07-21 00:00:00 10 443291 0 4 2009-07-21 00:00:00 (10 row(s) affected) I have the following index on LogInvSearches_Daily: /****** Object: Index [IX_LogInvSearches_Daily_LogDay] Script Date: 05/12/2010 11:08:22 ******/ CREATE NONCLUSTERED INDEX [IX_LogInvSearches_Daily_LogDay] ON [dbo].[LogInvSearches_Daily] ( [LogDay] ASC ) INCLUDE ( [Inv_ID], [LogCount]) WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, SORT_IN_TEMPDB = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, DROP_EXISTING = OFF, ONLINE = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY] I need to pull inventory only from the Inventory for a specific account id. I have an index on the Inventory as well. I'm using the following query to aggregate the data and give me the top 5 records. This query is currently taking 24 seconds to return the 5 rows: StmtText ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SELECT TOP 5 Sum(LogCount) AS Views , DENSE_RANK() OVER(ORDER BY Sum(LogCount) DESC, Inv_ID DESC) AS Rank , Inv_ID FROM LogInvSearches_Daily D (NOLOCK) WHERE LogDay DateAdd(d, -30, getdate()) AND EXISTS( SELECT NULL FROM propertyControlCenter.dbo.Inventory (NOLOCK) WHERE Acct_ID = 18731 AND Inv_ID = D.Inv_ID ) GROUP BY Inv_ID (1 row(s) affected) StmtText ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |--Top(TOP EXPRESSION:((5))) |--Sequence Project(DEFINE:([Expr1007]=dense_rank)) |--Segment |--Segment |--Sort(ORDER BY:([Expr1006] DESC, [D].[Inv_ID] DESC)) |--Stream Aggregate(GROUP BY:([D].[Inv_ID]) DEFINE:([Expr1006]=SUM([LOALogs].[dbo].[LogInvSearches_Daily].[LogCount] as [D].[LogCount]))) |--Sort(ORDER BY:([D].[Inv_ID] ASC)) |--Nested Loops(Inner Join, OUTER REFERENCES:([D].[Inv_ID])) |--Nested Loops(Inner Join, OUTER REFERENCES:([Expr1011], [Expr1012], [Expr1010])) | |--Compute Scalar(DEFINE:(([Expr1011],[Expr1012],[Expr1010])=GetRangeWithMismatchedTypes(dateadd(day,(-30),getdate()),NULL,(6)))) | | |--Constant Scan | |--Index Seek(OBJECT:([LOALogs].[dbo].[LogInvSearches_Daily].[IX_LogInvSearches_Daily_LogDay] AS [D]), SEEK:([D].[LogDay] > [Expr1011] AND [D].[LogDay] < [Expr1012]) ORDERED FORWARD) |--Index Seek(OBJECT:([propertyControlCenter].[dbo].[Inventory].[IX_Inventory_Acct_ID]), SEEK:([propertyControlCenter].[dbo].[Inventory].[Acct_ID]=(18731) AND [propertyControlCenter].[dbo].[Inventory].[Inv_ID]=[LOA (13 row(s) affected) I tried using a CTE to pick up the rows first and aggregate them, but that didn't run any faster, and gives me essentially the same execution plan.   • Noob LINQ - reading, filtering XML with XDocument

    - by user316117
I'm just learning XDocument and LINQ queries. Here's some simple XML (which doesn't look formatted exactly right in this forum in my browser, but you get the idea . . .) <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <quiz xmlns:xsi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema-instance" xsi:schemaLocation="http://www.example.com/name XMLFile2.xsd" title="MyQuiz1"> <q_a> <q_a_num>1</q_a_num> <q_>Here is question 1</q_> <_a>Here is the answer to 1</_a> </q_a> <q_a> <q_a_num>2</q_a_num> <q_>Here is question 2</q_> <_a>Here is the answer to 2</_a> </q_a> </quiz> I can iterate across all elements in my XML file and display their Name, Value, and NodeType in a ListBox like this, no problem: XDocument doc = XDocument.Load(sPath); IEnumerable<XElement> elems = doc.Descendants(); IEnumerable<XElement> elem_list = from elem in elems select elem; foreach (XElement element in elem_list) { String str0 = "Name = " + element.Name.ToString() + ", Value = " + element.Value.ToString() + ", Nodetype = " + element.NodeType.ToString(); System.Windows.Controls.Label strLabel = new System.Windows.Controls.Label(); strLabel.Content = str0; listBox1.Items.Add(strLabel); } ...but now I want to add a "where" clause to my query so that I only select elements with a certain name (e.g., "qa") but my element list comes up empty. I tried . . . IEnumerable<XElement> elem_list = from elem in elems where elem.Name.ToString() == "qa" select elem; Could someone please explain what I'm doing wrong? (and in general are there some good tips for debugging Queries?) Thanks in advance!

  • What method should be used for searching this mysql dataset?

    - by GeoffreyF67
I've got a mysql dataset that contains 86 million rows. I need to have a relatively fast search through this data. The data I'll be searching through is all strings. I also need to do partial matches. Now, if I have 'foobar' and search for '%oob%' I know it'll be really slow - it has to look at every row to see if there is a match. What methods can be used to speed queries like this up? G-Man

  • English dictionary as txt or xml file with support of synonyms

    - by Simon
Can someone point me to where I can download English dictionary as a txt or xml file. I am building a simple app for myself and looking for something what I could start using immediately without learning complex API. Support for synonyms would be great, that is it should be easier to retrieve all the synonyms for particular word. It would be absolutely fantastic if dictionary would be listing British and American spelling of the words where they are differ. Even if it would be small dictionary (few 000's words) that's ok, I only need it for small project. I even would be willing to buy one if the price is reasonable, and dictionary is easy to use - simple xml wold be great. Any directions please.
