• Failure to install NetFX3 on Windows Server 2012: Error 3017 -- Am I missing something here?

  I am really struggling to get this installed. I have tried the suggestions here in an attempt to rectify any possible corruption. I mounted the disk image to 'G' to do an offline install. • Windows 7 x64 "upgrade" repair fails

  I've been running into issues with Windows Update, which I can't seem to fix. The hotfixes don't work, nor does the Windows update readyness tool, or the manual SP1 upgrade. I get various esoteric errors which nobody seems to have a fix for. Looks like some of the update cache is corrupt and digital signatures seem to be broken on some packages / Windows Update components. Long story short, I have discovered the only option is to do a repair operation on the OS, to repair everything. It's so corrupt that only a complete replacement will fix it. According to various sources (including MSKB) one can perform a repair by running an in-place upgrade. I've got the Windows 7 Ultimate retail disc, which I've inserted into my machine. I ran setup.exe and went through in the following order: Install now Go online to get latest updates (I've also tried not getting updates) Wait for updates to be downloaded Select Windows 7 Ultimate (x64 architecture) and click next Accept the T&Cs, click next Click Upgrade At this point it spends a minute on the "checking compatibility" screen, after which I get the following error: The following issues are preventing Windows from upgrading. Cancel the upgrade, complete each task, and then restart the upgrade to continue. You can’t upgrade 64-bit Windows to a 32-bit version of Windows. To upgrade, obtain a 64-bit version of the installation disc, or go online to see how to install Windows 7 and keep your files and settings. 32-bit Windows cannot be upgraded to a 64-bit version of Windows. To upgrade, obtain a 32-bit version of the Windows installation disc. It also mentions a warning about potential conflicts with a storage driver and VS2010, but that doesn't seem to be the blocking issue. My currently installed version of Windows is Ultimate 64-bit (absolutely sure of this) and the disc is definitely a x86 / x64 combined Ultimate retail disc. There seem to be a few people who have run into this (e.g. this question), but I've not seen any answers. I've checked the event viewer, but can't spot anything in there that's related. Any idea how I can get this working? P.S: Just to pre-empt the inevitable "are you suuuuuuuuuuuuure it's x64 Ultimate?" questions:

I mean, i have an online flash based multiplayer game ( http://haxball.appspot.com ) and i want to connect to game with elinks installed on my shell server to create an always-present game room. All get me connected and I can see all folders, but not all files within these folders appear. Someone else using a Mac can see all files which is very odd. Any help much appreciated. C

  has anyone ever run into a dirty cache issue with a Equallogic SAN. Even after replacement of the controller cards in the Equallogic Storage Array fails offline with a dirty cache.   Hi, We are moving to the dataceneter and planning to have tiered storage on EVA4400 - FC RAID 10 for SQL databases and RAID5 across 24 FATA 1TB disks form VMware ESX guests.HP is describing FATA disks as suitable for near online storage, however I am not convinced that 24 spindles will not be enough for running VMWare for 3 ESX servers.   I just created a new app using angular-fullstack yeoman generator, edited it a bit to my liking, and ran it with grunt on my localhost, and immediately upon starting up I get this flood of requests to paths that I haven't even defined. Is this a hacking attempt? And if so, how does the hacker (human or bot) immediately know where my server is and when it came online? Note that I haven't made anything online, it's just a localhost setup and I'm merely connected to the internet. (Although my router does allow 80 port incoming.) Whois shows that the IP address belongs to a SoftLayer Technologies. Never heard of it. • What does the -R flag do for chflags?

  I'm not clear on exactly what the -R flag does for chflags. I was wondering if someone might be able to help me. The man page says this: Recurse: Change the file flags of file hierarchies rooted in the files instead of just the files themselves. I don't understand what that means.   We have a sever that shares all the printers. The PC's that are running on XP professional get a error message quoting (Connect to Printer). The only way I can find to get around the problem is by restating the printer and as soon is it comes online you can then add it but you have not got long. do you think it could be anything to-do with updates on the sever? the sever system is running Windows Server 2003 any help would be much appreciated. • Windows crashes when I try to compress large .MOV file from iPhone

  I have a 40 minute, 6 gigabyte .MOV file that I transferred from my iPhone to my PC. I need to upload the video to Youtube but the file is too large. When I try to compress the video, my computer will shut off when the process reaches 3 or 4 percent. This has happened in Windows Live Movie Maker, Riva FLV encoder, and VLC. Any ideas on how I can get this file down to a reasonable size so I can upload it online?

• Unable to connect to SVN server on VPS : Subversion Configuration Problem

  Hello everybody, I purchased a VPS account (centos-5-x86_64) from Hostgator mainly for the purpose of setting up an online Subversion Server. This is the first time I am managing a VPS and my linux skills are not so great, but I have basic knowledge of the OS and have been using it on and off as desktop from last few years. So after foxing through a few tutorials online, as the first step I logged in using SSH root account provided by Hostgator and tried to run, yum install mod_dav_svn subversion As it turns out my account has Cpanel/WHM and since it some concept of easy apache straight forward procedure of yum install mod_dav_svn subversion won't work. After that I found out how it can be worked out by compiling the source and stuff. But the whole procedure looked long and scary. [I am just a linux nub]. so I decided I would just skip whole apache integration stuff and just access the server using svn:// protocol, anyways that's how I configure svn on our LAN. So I installed subversion using yum install subversion It installed fine. Then I created a folder /svn_repos/testproject and ran svnadmin create /svn_repos/testproject/ No Problems Using vi I changed svnserve.conf and passwd files for the repository and added a user with my name. Anonymous users don't have any access, authenticated users have write access. Then I started svnserve using svnserve -d then in same terminal window svn list svn://localhost/svn_repos/testproject Asks for authentication for realm, provided root password then for svn username and password. Provided both. The command returns nothing but exists properly. Returns nothing is understood I didn't import anything. But if try to access svn remotely using in another terminal: svn list svn://ip.add.of.server/svn_repos/testproject svn: Can't connect to host 'ip.add.of.server': Operation timed out Is what I get. Parallels Power Panel that I got from Hostgator reports that: The firewall is not active now. To activate the firewall, choose one of the firewall operation modes. So if firewall is not running and I can access svn using localhost, why the operation is timing out when I try to access svn from a remote machine? Experienced network admins please help. Thanks in advance. Also please suggest a good book which gives detailed information on configuring Dedicated servers + WHM and CPanel.
