• Web host that handles excess php mailing [closed]

  Possible Duplicate: How to find web hosting that meets my requirements? I'm having trouble choosing a host that meets my application's needs. Please kindly inform me what I should look for when choosing a web host. My application is similar to a reminder service that reminds users of events that they scheduled. I'm sending emails to users through a PHP script. I'm not sending one email to multiple recipients. Each recipient receives a different message. I plan to use cron jobs every minute and expect the application to send roughly 200 individual emails in 1 hour (for a small user base that may grow). I don't have hosting experience with this type of application. I plan to start on a shared host and move up in the future to vps or dedicated. Most shared hosts that I looked into allow 50-100 emails per hour with delays between mailings. What do you recommend?

  I've been searching for a great looking wordpress theme to use on a small magazine website idea that I had and I've just found one that would be ideal, with lots of blank spaces specifically designed for adverts - But then when I came to download it there was a notice: License: GPLv2 or later. Type: Non-Commercial Does this mean that you can use the theme but not use the advert space? What are the limitations?

• Google Analytics API data for goals (funnels) doesn't match - how do they reconcile?

  I have a Google Analytics account with a well-functioning funnel made up of 4 goals. I can query the API and get the data out, but it does not match the funnel report in Analytics. Without getting into specific values, I can give you an example with faked data. Here's how the funnel might look: Shopping Cart 100 > 100 > 20 80 (80%) Address Page 5 > 85 > 25 60 (71%) Payment Page 2 > 62 > 10 52 (84%) Checkout 1 > 53 (49.07% funnel conversion rate) Okay, so you would expect the API to output data something like this: goal1Starts goal1Completions goal1Abandons 100 80 20 goal2Starts goal2Completions goal2Abandons 85 60 25 goal3Starts goal3Completions goal3Abandons 62 52 10 goal4Starts goal4Completions goal4Abandons 53 53 0 Instead, it's different. Firstly, the abandons are associated with the following goal (so goal1 always has 0 abandons and goal4 always has 0 abandons. Okay, I can work with that. What's confusing is that the numbers are always a little different. The goal1Completions always match the report, as do the goal4Completions, but everything else is off by a small amount. Sometimes it's only 2 visits, other times it's off by 50. So, here's my question: What data do I need to pull from the API in order to recreate the counts in the Funnel report in Google Analytics? • How can I register a domain that requires country residency?

  I tried to register a .pm domain from ovh.co.uk, but they e-mailed me saying they want valid proof that I am a resident of the United Kingdom. I currently live in the United States though. I am aware that I have to be a resident. That's not the question I'm asking. I want to know if it's possible, whether through some website that will get residency or some 'hacking' method, to register the domain I am interested in without having to physically be a resident of the country. I will try and find out if ovh.co.uk will charge me an extra fee, but until then I am curious to know if there is any way I could do this. Also, is there any other website I could purchase .pm domains from?

• CSS padding displays in FF and Chrome, but not in IE 8? [migrated]

  I'm updating the CSS on a page design, trying to put borders around my images, with 7px of padding between the image and the border. It seems to be working fine in Firefox and Chrome, but IE displays the border directly against the image, with no padding. Any suggestions?   I have a form where I ask for email addresses. Usually I'd use <input type="email" ...> but I want to allow a user to type foo rather than [email protected] in the (likely) case that they are using an @mycompany.com email address. Is there a way to get around the validation (if format matches this regex, accept; otherwise, validate normally), or should I just use <input type="text" ...> and ignore the semantics and so forth?

I recieved a message in webmasters tools in and I have removed the copyright content from my site but traffic from Google is not increasing. What is the problem? Do I need to tell Google that I have removed the copyright content from my site? If yes then why I have lost my site traffic from Google forever?

• Server Setups for Agencies [closed]

  We are considering consolidating our server administration by cutting down on the number of systems we currently use to manage all our websites(~65 websites). Currently we have a testing server and 3 production servers. (2 - cherokee(linode), 1 - apache (mt)) We don't have a dedicated server admin, so I am stuck with managing all these servers, and as a developer, I don't want to deal with all the server hassle. So my main goal is to cut down on the time spent messing with the servers. We have looked at Pagoda Box and AppFog as possibilities. I am not sure if Pagoda Box would be cost effective. With 65+ websites we may end up paying anywhere from 0 to $50+ per website per month. Right now we page about $250 per month for the 4 VPS servers mentioned above. We already use Capistrano for deployment. I have the opportunity to completely overhaul the entire setup and I would like some feedback on where you found your information for large scale server management or how you currently do it. Articles are welcome. In summary: What is new (past 2 years) in simple server management arena? If you work at an agency or have had agency experience, how do/did you manage your sites? a. What is the level of effort for SSL, new site setup, database management, and extension management. b. How did you handle datacenter outages. Anyone with Pagoda Box experience, do you like it and did you have problems with Wordpress, Cakephp, Drupal, Expression Engine or Magento? a. Is it expensive for you? b. How has server uptime been? • Transferring users and search engines to a new domain

  I've been asked to take over the maintnance of an existing site that's being reworked. At present it's serving localised content for several languages, but via a fairly unhelpful mechanism that means essentially search engines only have it indexed in English and any deep links will de facto appear in English as well. So, new localised sites are being built under separate domains - not just for this, there's other benefits. What we're then looking to do is to redirect users correctly to the new site, where appropriate. For humans this isn't a problem. We can send them through a gateway page on their first site visit, grab their language preference and put it in a cookie, then redirect them to the new localised content as soon as it's available. For search engines, this isn't so good... In principle I'm happy to simply bypass the gateway page and redirect known spiders to the new site, but this means we're serving radically different content (different URL even!) to human and robot users. Won't this therefore be regarded as cloaking and cause us grief? Anyone know a better way to handle this?

• How would a search engine see url encoded characters?

  I've got my URL however some of the strings would contain &. Obviously I can't use them as best practice so I've replaced them with +. However if I encoded my & instead it would become %26. How would a search engine see that? Would it see %26 as a & so still bring back the URL or would it just see it as a %26? ie. Would www.example.com/sweet?m&m show as that, or would they see it as www.example.com/sweet?m%26m

  I have 3 rotating banners on one 728x90 position on my website, so every time a page is loaded another banner is shown. One of these is AdSense. Is it legal, I mean is this strictly prohibited or not? Because, the code is basically stored in db table in my CMS module in Wordpress, so I guess it is OK. But I am asking to be sure. • Should I be concerned about hAtom tags on my blog?

  I am using a theme that automatically adds hatom-entry, hatom-feed classes on my WordPress blog. I read that such tags/classes should be used for syndicated content. Anyway, then I ran a Rich Snippet Tool, which threw a "HAtomfeed" error. So I removed a "hfeed" div tag. Now, should I be concerned? Can this cause any problems? I still have a couple of these classes (listed below), and I just hope they do not effect my site's ranking. • Remove home page from Google cache

  The Google Webmaster Tools Remove URL section allows you to specify a page URL to be removed from the index, or cache, or both. However, I want to remove just the home page, which is / I want to remove it from the cache because it is indexed when the "under construction" page was up. This URL is not recognised by the Remove URL section as an individual page. Instead Google assumes you want to remove the entire website from the index. I've specified /index.php and /index.html to be removed from the cache, but this is not the URL listed in the search results for the home page I want removed from the cache.

I know what Wikipedia says is the definition of a content farm (low quality paid articles and spammy text across the page to catch search engines). • How can I make these Google Analytics numbers add up? (Frequency & Recency)

  Here's a screen shot from Google Analytics. It's my last months traffic, and this is the 'Frequency & Recency' tab. So I believe that if I add up all the numbers under 'visits' I get 11,432, which is right, and if I add up all the numbers under 'pageviews' I get 14,785 and that's right as well. But, let's take the last line - the last line appears to say that 71 people, visited more than 51 times each, and they viewed a total of 243 pages between them - that doesn't seam to make any sense - did they view 9% of a page each time? So that's clearly wrong - what's the error in my calculation?

• Dropbox and IIS

  I'm running into the problem of using Dropbox and IIS. I am using the Dropbox Folder Sync plugin to sync a folder outside the Dropbox folder. They are synced into my inetpub\root\downloads\ directory. The problem is not that it doesn't sync. The problem is that the files that get synced have no permissions attached to them. I can't open any of them on IIS. Initially the downloads were to be only PDFs but they don't open so I tried an .ASPX file and it fails to load as well. Is there any way around this or another program I can use to sync files but allow them to be opened on an IIS server. Thanks for any help!

  I have one domain, www.example.com, and www.example.com/sales. the analytic code on both urls are different. so when i login to google account, it will show two separate analytic accounts. on www.example.com/sales, i have a banner linked back to www.example.com. i clicked that banners, and i am sure there are other people have clicked the banner as well. but when i check the analytic of www.example.com, i don't see any thing come from my example.com/sales.   Anyone know of a reputable domain name company which deals in .museum domain names? Previously we had used DomainBank without much issue. DomainBank was bought by Dotster and am having nothing but trouble since the switch. Currently the website has been down for two days and it is a MAJOR issue. I know .museum is a seldom used domain name but I really need to switch to a reputable company. GoDaddy doesn't work with them unfortunately. Anyone know of a good company that does?
