  • UITextField for Phone Number

Hello everyone, I was wondering how I can format the textField that I'm using for a phone number (ie like the "Add New Contact" page on the iPhone. When I enter in a new mobile phone, ex. 1236890987 it formats it as (123) 689-0987.) I already have the keyboard set as the number pad. Thanks!

  • Collision detection on sub views contained in 2 separate parent UIViews?

    - by Chris
Hi All, I originally setup some conditions using CGRectIntersectsRect for some collision detection which worked fine. In the greater scale of things I only need part of the view to be detected. So originally within the ViewController it was comparing 2 UIviews. Now what I need to do is collision detection of subViews within 2 different UIViews that are contained in a view in which the view controller does the logic. My script is no longer working as I suspect CGRectIntersectsRect only compares frames within the same view? I'll keep digging to confirm this. Any ways around this? Is it possible for example to get the x and y pos of the sub view in relation to the main view that's performing the logic?

  • UITableViewCell get nil

    - by MTA
I create a UITableView with custom UITableViewCell, this is how i create the cell in cellForRowAtIndexPath: static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"SongsCell"; SongsCell *cell = (SongsCell*)[tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil){ UIViewController *vc = [[[UIViewController alloc] initWithNibName:@"SongsCell" bundle:nil] autorelease]; cell = (SongsCell *) vc.view; } now i want to get all cells in the table info (parameter from cell) when a button pressed: for (int i = 0; i < [songTable numberOfRowsInSection:0]; i++) { NSIndexPath *indexPath = [NSIndexPath indexPathForRow:i inSection:0]; UITableViewCell *cell = [songTable cellForRowAtIndexPath:indexPath]; } Now i have a problem that this loop give me for cell a nil for all the cell that currently not seen in the table.

  • Include Obj-C++ header from C++ source file

    - by Schwitzgabel
    Consider the followng situation: MacFont.h struct MacFont : Font { // ... NSFont* font; }; MacFont will be implemented in MacFont.mm FontEngine.cpp: #if defined(OS_MAC) #include "MacFont.h" #elif // ... #endif //... In order to make it compiling, I should rename FontEngine.cpp to FontEngine.mm but I'm not allowed to. So what now?

  • Completely Removing Views from memory

    - by cannyboy
I have a view which is set up to train 'voiceprints' of words (this voiceprint code is not mine), and another view which has a slideshow which is controlled by the voiceprint. Unfortunately, these views conflict because they are still in memory. As far as I know, viewDidUnload and dealloc are only called in low-memory situations, and dealloc should not be called directly, so how do I completely remove a view. These views are within uinavigationcontrollers by the way.

  • How does one access subviews and handle groups of them?

    - by david
If I want to manipulate a view I get it with [self viewWithTag:5];. Is there a better way to do this? Sometimes I need to manipulate a bunch of view (e.g. move them all out of the way. I do this by adding a UIView (e.g. UIView iHoldViews) and then adding the views, buttons, etc to this view. Then I can move the iHoldViews view and all its subviews move with it. Is there a better way to do this? (I have a feeling there is :) Maybe storing them in a NSArray or NSMutableDictionary ?

.h file #import <UIKit/UIKit.h> @interface AddEventViewController : UIViewController <UITextViewDelegate> @end .m file @property (weak, nonatomic) IBOutlet UITextField *textField1; @property (weak, nonatomic) IBOutlet UITextField *textField2; @property (weak, nonatomic) IBOutlet UITextField *textField3; - (IBAction)textFieldReturn:(id)sender; @end @implementation AddEventViewController @synthesize textField1, textField2, textField3; - (id)initWithNibName:(NSString *)nibNameOrNil bundle:(NSBundle *)nibBundleOrNil { self = [super initWithNibName:nibNameOrNil bundle:nibBundleOrNil]; if (self) { // Custom initialization } return self; } - (IBAction)textFieldReturn:(id)sender; { [sender resignFirstResponder]; } - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; self.textField1.delegate = self; textField1.delegate = self; // Do any additional setup after loading the view. } - (void)didReceiveMemoryWarning { [super didReceiveMemoryWarning]; // Dispose of any resources that can be recreated. } - (void)touchesBegan: (NSSet *) touches withEvent: (UIEvent *)event { if (textField1) { if ([textField1 canResignFirstResponder]) [textField1 resignFirstResponder]; } [super touchesBegan: touches withEvent: event]; if (textField2) { if ([textField2 canResignFirstResponder]) [textField2 resignFirstResponder]; } [super touchesBegan: touches withEvent: event]; if (textField3) { if ([textField3 canResignFirstResponder]) [textField3 resignFirstResponder]; } [super touchesBegan: touches withEvent: event]; } - (BOOL)textFieldShouldReturn:(UITextField *)textField { [textField1 resignFirstResponder]; return NO; [textField2 resignFirstResponder]; return NO; [textField3 resignFirstResponder]; return NO; } @end Ok so im getting the yellow bug symbol on the lines: - (void)viewDidLoad { [super viewDidLoad]; self.textField1.delegate = self; textField1.delegate = self; } I don't know how to delegate all of my textFields? how do i make this textFieldReturn work for all of my textFields.. that viewDidLoad area has to be the problem, because everything else works good...

  • Error when changing or resetting FBProfilePictureView profileId

    - by Jeff Schwartz
I have programmatically added an FBProfilePictureView object to a view. When initially logging in, the user's profile picture displays as expected when setting the profileId of the object within the FBLoginViewDelegate method loginViewFetchedUserInfo:user:. However, when logging off the following line of code produces an error: profilePicture.profileId = nil; The error thrown is: [__NSCFNumber isEqualToString:]: unrecognized selector sent to instance Note: This was only an issue after I incrementally upgraded the iOS SDK from 3.5 to 3.8. If anyone has encountered this issue, please let me know. Thanks!

  • Subclassing Cocoa means no subclass ivars in some cases?

    - by Michael
The question is generally coming from self = [super init]. In case if I'm subclassing NSSomething and in my init's method self = [super init] returns object of different class, does it mean I am not able to have my very own ivars in my subclass, just because self will be pointing to different class? Appreciate if you could bring some examples if my statement is wrong.

  • Typecasting doesn't work. How to convert an object?

    - by Nastase Ion
Hi everyone! I need to convert a custom object to a different object. How can I do that? I know that typecasting doesn't work (the only thing is does is "shuts the compiler warnings off", but nothing more). Here is a sample code: MyType* obj1; MyOtherType* obj2; obj1 = [MyType initWithData: 1]; obj2 = (MyOtherType*) obj1; if ([obj2 isMemberOfClass: [MyOtherType class]]) { NSLog(@"OK"); } else if ([obj2 isMemberOfClass: [MyType class]]) { NSLog(@"Nope"); } The result is: Nope What can I do??

  • If I write a framework that gets information from the Internet, should I make a degelate or use blocks?

    - by Time Machine
Say I'm writing a publicly available framework for the Vimeo API. This framework needs to get information from the Internet. Because this can take some time, I need to use threadin to prevent the UI from hanging. Foundation uses delegates for this, like NSURLConnectionDelegate. However, Game Kit uses blocks as callback functions. What is the recommended way of doing this? I know blocks aren't supported in standard GCC versions, but they require less, much less code for the one that uses my framework. Delegates, on the other hand, are real methods and when protocols are used, I'm sure the methods are implemented. Thanks.

  • Shedule tasks question

    - by gabac
Hi everyone I have a though question :) Let's say you get some data which is due at a certain point int the future. You get A saying my task is due in 1h and other which says his task is due in 1.5h. The information is collected on your server. In which programming language or even how would solve that? So task a will be executed in 1h, task B in 1.5h. I read something about java scheduler but I'm not yet sure if this is the right way. What are ur ideas? Cheers
