  • Rails: Extracting the raw url from the request

    - by pankajbhageria
    I am working with Rails 2.2. The required behaviour is as follows: I have a link(with a ajax link embedded) xyz.com/admin#page1 When I go to the above page, I should be redirected to the login page, if I am not logged in. After I log in, I should be taken back to xyz.com/admin#page1 For this I need to store the url in session when I visit any page. The problem is that when I do request.uri, I get xyz.com/admin But I want to store xyz.com/admin#page1 Regards, Pankaj

  • ASP.Net File Upload Network Issue

    - by John Delate
    I have tried both the .net FileUpload control and the ajax Asyncfileuploadcontrol to upload a file less than 500kb. It seems that when I tried to go through my wireless router (att.bellsouth) that the uploads always fail, however when I plug my droid into my laptop and use my pda connection it works perfectly fine. I'm wondering if the network connection from my house to my server could be causing this issue, and if anyone had any solutions to this problem. Tomorrow I'm going to try and upload from other networks and pray it works.

  • Should I invest time in learning about OR\M or LINQ?

    - by Peter Smith
    I'm a .NET web developer primarily who occasionally writes console applications to mine data, cleanup tasks, etc. Most of what I do winds up involving a database which I currently design via sql server management studio, using stored procedures, and query analyzer. I also create a lot of web services which are consumed via AJAX applications. Do these technologies really help you in speeding up development times? Do you still have to build the database or object code first?

  • Special technology needed for browser based chat?

    - by orokusaki
    On this post, I read about the usage of XMPP. Is this sort of thing necessary, and more importantly, my main question expanded: Can a chat server and client be built efficiently using only standard HTTP and browser technologies (such as PHP and JS, or RoR and JS, etc)? Or, is it best to stick with old protocols like XMPP find a way to integrate them with my application? I looked into CampFire via LiveHTTPHeaders and Firebug for about 5 minutes, and it appears to use Ajax to send a request which is never answered until another chat happens. Is this just CampFire opening a new thread on the server to listen for an update and then returning a response to the request when the thread hears an update? I noticed that they're requesting on a specific port (8043 if memory serves me) which makes me think that they're doing something more complex than just what I mentioned. Also, the URL requested started with /tcp/ which I found interesting. Note: I don't expect to ever have more than 150 users live-chatting in all the rooms combined at the same time. I understand that if I was building a hosted pay for chat service like CampFire with thousands of concurrent users, it would behoove me to invest time in researching special technologies vs trying to reinvent the wheel in a simple way in my app. Also, if you're going to do it with server polling, how often would you personally poll to maximize response without slamming the server?

  • js works inside the page but not in code behind

    - by Cristian Boariu
    Hi guys, I have this function put in a MasterPage, which shows up an mp3 player: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { var stageW = 500; var stageH = 216; var cacheBuster = Date.parse(new Date()); var flashvars = {}; var params = {}; params.bgcolor = '#F6F6F6'; params.allowfullscreen = 'true'; flashvars.stageW = stageW; flashvars.stageH = stageH; flashvars.pathToFiles = ''; flashvars.settingsPath = '../mp3player/mp3player_settings.xml'; flashvars.xmlPath = '<%# getRestXmlPlayerUrl() %>'; flashvars.keepSelected = 't'; flashvars.selectedWindow = '4'; flashvars.slideshow = 't'; flashvars.imageWidth = '130'; flashvars.imageHeight = '130'; swfobject.embedSWF('swf/preview.swf?t=' + cacheBuster, 'myContent', stageW, stageH, '9.0.124', 'swf/expressInstall.swf', flashvars, params); }); </script> All works great. But, because i have some ajax on the page with update panel, the flash in not rendered when ajax requests occurs so i need to register this function and i've tried something like this: protected void Page_PreRender(object sender, EventArgs e) { Type cstype = this.GetType(); String csnameForPlayer = "applyStyleToMp3Player"; if (!Page.ClientScript.IsClientScriptBlockRegistered(cstype, csnameForPlayer)) { StringBuilder cstextForPlayer = new StringBuilder(); cstextForPlayer.Append(" $(document).ready(function() { " + " var stageW = 500;" + " var stageH = 216;" + " var cacheBuster = Date.parse(new Date());" + " var flashvars = {};" + " var params = {};" + " params.bgcolor = '#F6F6F6';" + " params.allowfullscreen = 'true';" + " flashvars.stageW = stageW;" + " flashvars.stageH = stageH;" + " flashvars.pathToFiles = '';" + " flashvars.settingsPath = '../mp3player/mp3player_settings.xml';" + " flashvars.xmlPath = '<%# getRestXmlPlayerUrl() %>';" + " flashvars.keepSelected = 't';" + " flashvars.selectedWindow = '4';" + " flashvars.slideshow = 't';" + " flashvars.imageWidth = '130';" + " flashvars.imageHeight = '130';" + " swfobject.embedSWF('swf/preview.swf?t=' + cacheBuster, 'myContent', stageW, stageH, '9.0.124', 'swf/expressInstall.swf', flashvars, params);" + "}); "); ScriptManager.RegisterStartupScript(this.Page, this.Page.GetType(), csnameForPlayer, cstextForPlayer.ToString(), true); } } Well, this does not work. The flash player does not appear any more, so, i assume that is something wrong in the cstextForPlayer. I've spent over one hour to figure it out but i've failed. Does anyone see the problem? Thanks in advance.

  • How to receive Email in JEE application

    - by Hank
    Obviously it's not so difficult to send out emails from a JEE application via JavaMail. What I am interested in is the best pattern to receive emails (notification bounces, mostly)? I am not interested in IMAP/POP3-based approaches (polling the inbox) - my application shall react to inbound emails. One approach I could think of would be Keep existing MTA (postfix on linux in my case) - ops team already knows how to configure / operate it For every mail that arrives, spawn a Java app that receives the data and sends it off via JMS. I could do this via an entry in /etc/aliases like myuser: "|/path/to/javahelper" with javahelper calling the Java app, passing STDIN along. MDB (part of JEE application) receives JMS message, parses it, detects bounce message and acts accordingly. Another approach could be Open a listening network socket on port 25 on the JEE application container. Associate a SessionBean with the socket. Bean is part of JEE application and can parse/detect bounces/handle the messages directly. Keep existing MTA as inbound relay, do all its security/spam filtering, but forward emails to myuser (that pass the filter) to the JEE application container, port 25. The first approach I have done before (albeit in a different language/setup). From a performance and (perceived) cleanliness point of view, I think the second approach is better, but it would require me to provide a proper SMTP transport implementation. Also, I don't know if it's at all possible to connect a network socket with a bean... What is your recommendation? Do you have details about the second approach?

    - by aspdotnetuser
    I want to use jQuery to make a call to a c# web service called c.ashx which checks whether that username is valid and returns an error message as a string. What should I put for data: and content type: if the return value of the c# webservice is a string value? jQuery.ajax({ type: "GET", url: "/services/CheckUserName.ashx", data: "", contenttype: "", success: function (msg) { alert("success"); }, error: function (msg, text) { alert(text); } });

  • Disable Internet Explorer 8 Developer Tools

    - by Steve Brouillard
    Is there a way to either disable Internet Explorer 8 Developer Tools, or at least change the shortcut key mapping? I'm working on an ASP.NET AJAX app that has used the F12 key for a function for years (it's actually a hold over from the original DOS app). Customers have used this key for the sam function for nearly 15 years and we'd really like to avoid having to move that function. Cheers
