  I have an array of checkboxes in a complex dynamic-html form. Whenever a user clicks one checkbox, a fairly expensive query is generated and submitted to a remote server. I want to delay this submit action depending on the users next action. If the user clicks several checkboxes quickly, all of the first clicks should be discarded, only the last one is processed and eventually submitted after 1 second or so. maybe this is a common problem but I have never worked with timeouts before.

  Each day an application creates a file called file_YYYYMMDD.csv where YYYYMMDD is the production date. But sometimes the generation fails and no files are generated for a couple of days. I'd like an easy way in a bash or sh script to find the filename of the most recent file, which has been produced before a given reference date. As a last resort I'm willing to create them myself - a move that might make them (and my whole application) look amazingly bad. I know that setting up object access auditing may be an option, but if I use that I then have the problem of trying to match up event log entries to specific files... sounds messy!   Using the return keyword in Java code will return execution to the last piece of calling code in the call stack. If object foo calls baz.bar(), the return keyword in the bar method will continue code execution in foo. Let's say I have object foo that calls foofoo that calls foofoofoo in the above scenario, and foofoofoo calls baz.bar(). Is there anyway in Java to use the return keyword, or something else, so that the code in the bar method can return all the way back up to foo? (WITHOUT THROWING AN EXCEPTION)

  At the moment I have a regular expression that looks like this: ^(cat|dog|bird){1}(cat|dog|bird)?(cat|dog|bird)?$ It matches at least 1, and at most 3 instances of a long list of words and makes the matching words for each group available via the corresponding variable. Is there a way to revise this so that I can return the result for each word in the string without specifying the number of groups beforehand? ^(cat|dog|bird)+$ works but only returns the last match separately , because there is only one group.

  I have an application that performs a little slow over the internet due to bandwidth reasons. I have enabled GZip which has improved download time by a significant amout, but I was also considering whether or not I could switch from XML to JSON in order to squeeze out that last bit of performance. Would using JSON make the message size significantly smaller, or just somewhat smaller? Let's say we're talking about 250kB of XML data (which compresses to 30kB).
