• InstallShield 2009: Remove a dll (being used by explorer.exe for context menu) during uninstall with

  Install Shield Premier 2009: Basic MSI Project I have a dll that is supposed to be removed during uninstall. But this dll is being used by explorer.exe, it is used for generating windows explorer context menus with their icons(same as the menu items, icons we see when we right click on any file/folder and see the WinRAR items, icons). Manually, I have to unregister the dll and close explorer.exe from task manager and again run explorer.exe. Then I can delete the dll. So from Install Shield how to delete this dll without any problem(as we see while uninstalling WinRAR or other software there is no problem no message boxes shown and the related context menu icons also removed).

• NSNotification center may not respond to -object ?

  Hi, I'm trying to make simple use of the NSNotification center inside my iPhone application, but I seem to be doing something wrong in this case. I was under the impression that it was possible to retrieve an object associated with a particular message, or at least a reference to the object, but using the following example code I'm getting a warning, "NSNotification center may not respond to -object" - (void)addNewBookmark:(NSNotificationCenter *)notification { Bookmark *newBookMark = (Bookmark *)[notification object]; //Do some stuff with the bookmark object } Indeed, when I compile and run the code, basically nothing I try to do with the contents of the object actually gets carried out - it's simply ignored. The post code is as follows, - (IBAction)save:(id) sender{ //Sending the message with the related object [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] postNotificationName:@"addNewBookmark" object:bookmark]; } and the bookmark object itself is just a dictionary. I also tried using the "userInfo" argument and passing the bookmark object through that, but the result was the same. How should I be doing this? What am I doing wrong?

  Hi, all. I have application with 2 groups of models - content based (news, questions) and "something" based (devices, applications etc). I need to link all models between groups - for example question may belongs to 3 different things - one application and 2 devices. The same - for news. From other side - i need to see all news articles and questions related to some application or device. Any idea how to develop this in rails? I have only one idea - mixins that will add methods content_id and thing_id to models and join table.

• Stop propagating deletes

  Is it just me or is anyone else finding EF very difficult to use in a real app :( I'm using it as the data layer and have created custom business objects. I'm having difficulty converting the business objects back to EF objects and updating/adding/deleting from the database. Does anyone know a good, simple example of doing this? Actually the current problem that's driving me nuts is when I delete something EF tries to delete other related stuff as well. For example, if I delete an invoice it will also delete the associated customer! Seems odd. I can't figure out how to stop it doing this. // tried: invoiceEfData.CustomerReference = null; // also tried invoiceEfData.Customer = null; context.DeleteObject(invoiceEfData); context.SaveChanges(); // at this point I get a database error due to it attempting to delete the customer

• Dealing with Unity's Global Menu and Overlay Scrollbars under Free Pascal/Lazarus

  I've had some problems under the IDE that were fixed with unsettings and disabling Global menu and the Overlay Scrollbars. I've reported the problem in Lazarus' Mantis: #0021465, #0021467. There is also this bug report talking a bit more about it: #0019266 Their solution was to use unsettings to turn off Global Menu and Overlay Scrollbars. I've had a quick search about the problem and there's an open bug report at Launchpad: overlay scrolling is broken in lazarus. So, is the problem related to "lib overlay scrollbar"? If it is, is there a solution via code, to avoid turning off both the Global Menu and Overlay Scrollbars? If NOT, is there anyone taking notice and fixing the issue? Many thanks, Gus

• Add api key to every request in ActiveResource

  I have 2 RESTful Rails apps I'm trying to make talk to each other. Both are written in Rails 3 (beta3 at the moment). The requests to the service will require the use an api key which is just a param that needs to be on every request. I can't seem to find any information on how to do this. You define the url the resource connects to via the site= method. There should be an equivalent query_params= method or similar. There is one good blog post I found related to this and it's from October 2008, so not exactly useful for Rails 3.

• C#: Recurrence Calandar issue of Lotus notes

  Hi all, I am creating a Recurrence pattern in calendar items. But there is a issue as before clicking "Save and Send Invitations" button of Lotus notes 8.5, i am able to view the "RepeatForUnit" field from document property and based on its value i am identifying the Recurrence type like (D: for daily, W: for Weekly, M: for monthly etc). But, After clicking on the "Save and Send Invitations" button, the Recurrence is getting saved but after that, i am unable to get the "RepeatForUnit" field in Document Properties. Kindly help me, how to identify the Recurrence type and the related fields. Note: I am using Domino.dll using C#.

  Hello All... I have Postcode in my large database, which contains values like SL5 9JH, LU1 3TQ etc. Now when I am pasting above postcode to maps.google.com it's pointing to a perfect location.. My requirement is like I want to pass post codes to maps.google.com and it should return a related latitude and longitude of that pointed location, that I want to store in my database. • Android: How to restore List data when pressing the "back" button?

  Hi there, My question is about restoring complex activity related data when coming back to the activity using the "back" button". Activity A has a ListView which is connected to ArrayAdapter serving as its data source - this happens in onCreate(). By default, if I move to activity B and press "back" to get back to activity A, does my list stay intact with all the data or do I just get visual "copy" of the screen but the data is lost? What can I do when more than activities are involved? Let's say activity A starts activity B which starts activity C and then I press "back" twice to get to A. How do I ensure the integrity of the A's data when it gets back to the foreground? PrefsManager does not seem to handle complex object very intuitively. Thanks, Rob

• Are C++ meta-templates required knowledge for programmers?

  In my experience Meta-templates are really fun (when your compilers are compliant), and can give good performance boosts, and luckily I'm surrounded by seasoned C++ programmers that also grok meta-templates, however occasionally a new developer arrives and can't make heads or tails of some of the meta-template tricks we use (mostly Andrei Alenxandrescu stuff), for a few weeks until he gets initiated appropriately. So I was wondering what's the situation for other C++ programmers out there? Should meta-template programming be something C++ programmers should be "required" to know (excluding entry level students of course), or not?   I'm translating an API from C to C#, and one of the functions allocates a number of related objects, some of which are optional. The C version accepts several pointer parameters which are used to return integer handles to the objects, and the caller can pass NULL for some of the pointers to avoid allocating those objects: void initialize(int *mainObjPtr, int *subObjPtr, int *anotherSubObjPtr); initialize(&mainObj, &subObj, NULL); For the C# version, the obvious translation would use out parameters instead of pointers: public static void Initialize(out int mainObj, out int subObj, out int anotherSubObj); ... but this leaves no way to indicate which objects are unwanted. Are there any well-known examples of C# APIs doing something similar that I could imitate? If not, any suggestions?

• Crashing the OS X Pasteboard

  I have an application that reads in text by emulating CMD-C copy commands and reading the pasteboard - unfortunately this the only way to achieve what I need. Occasionally, something goes wrong in execution (not sure yet if it's related to the copy command or not) and the app crashes. Once in a while, this has a knock on effect on the system-wide pasteboard - any other application that is running will crash if I attempt a copy, cut, or paste. Is there a robust way to handle this - something I should be doing with the NSPasteboard before exiting? Any information on what might be happening is appreciated. • Google Toolbox For Mac with Core Data on iPhone results in error

  I have set up my project for using Google Toolbox for Mac as described on official wiki. And everything is working as expected. For core data usage I have created a 'database' class that uses for final application SQLite storage (this is done based on Xcode template code). For unit tests I have created separate init method for 'database' to use in memory storage (storage url is [NSURL URLWithString:@"memory://store"] and type NSInMemoryStoreType). Without adding my model file (*.xcdatamodel) to unit tests target, test fail in expected place with message: executeFetchRequest:error: A fetch request must have an entity. If I add model file to the test target, then test is executed as expected (core data part looks OK), but after tests execution I get: RunIPhoneUnitTest.sh: line 123: 9487 Segmentation fault "$TARGET_BUILD_DIR/$EXECUTABLE_PATH" -RegisterForSystemEvents Command /bin/sh failed with exit code 139 This problem does not looks directly related to core data, but only happens if model file is added to target. Any pointers on resolving this issue would be appreciated!

• PHP variable passed to JasperServer for reports

  Is it possible to pass a variable from php to a report in JasperServer? For example, in my php application I keep the department_id stored in a session variable. I would like to pass the department_id over to my reports running on JasperServer and display the information appropriate for that department. in the iReport I have a query like: "SELECT * FROM employees WHERE department_id = $P{dept_id_from_php}", but I have to build a dropdown select list to pass the dept_id parameter. The end result is I would like the user logged into my PHP application to view the employee information that is related to the department the logged-in-user belongs to. I don't want to pass this over using the querystring because the user could just change the id in the querystring and have access to other departments information. Ideally I would like to only pass that parameter once, then reuse it in all the reports, like a global variable. Is this possible?

• Kubunutu/Windows 7 dual-boot and git

  I've been using Kubuntu and Windows 7 on my laptop for some time. Recently I also started using git to keep track of a project I'm working on. At first I thought I'd use the same git repo for editing from both Kubuntu and Win, but I soon discovered that committing changes on Win would make git on Kubuntu think all the files have changed since the last commit, although the change doesn't seem to be content related. The exactly same thing happens if I do a commit on Kubuntu and right after that do a git status on Win. I know I could use different repos for Kubuntu and Win and just merge them together when I'm done, but if anyone knows how I could use the same repo I would really appreciate the help.

• How do chains work in Rainbow tables?

  Hello, I was wondering if should one could explain in detail how chains work in rainbow tables as though you would a complete novice but with relevance to programming. I understand that a chain is 16 bytes long. 8 bytes mark the starting point and 8 mark the end. I also understand that in the filename we have the chain length i.e. 2400. Which means that between our starting point and end point in just 16 bytes we have 2400 possible clear texts? What? How does that work? in those 16 bytes how do i get my 2400 hashes and clear texts or am i miss understanding this? Your help is greatly appreciated. Thanks P.s. I have read the related papers and googled this topic a fair bit. I think im just missing something important to make these gears turn.

We have protocols like Modbus and Hart to handle the request and response between the application and devices. The question is related to managing the reference count of the channel. • Eclipse 3.5 Missing New Web Application option after installing Google App Engine plugin

  Hey all, I just used Eclipse 3.5 to install the Google App Engine plug in. The plug in is showed as installed in the update manager. However, I am not seeing the option to "New Web Application Project" (http://code.google.com/appengine/docs/java/tools/eclipse.html). I also don't see anything Google related when I type Google into the search bar under Windows Preferences. There were no errors at the time of installation, and I was asked if I wanted to restart Eclipse, clicked yes, and it restarted accordingly. Am I missing something?
