  • Subtracting Delphi Time Ranges from a Date Range, Calculate Remaining Time

    I'm looking for an algorithm that will help calculate a workday working time length. It would have an input date range and then allow subtracting partially or completely intersecting time range slices from that date range and the result would be the number of minutes (or the fraction/multiple of a day) left in the original date range, after subtracting out the various non-working time slices. For Example: Input date range: 1/4/2010 11:21 am - 1/5/2010 3:00 pm Subtract out any partially or completely intersecting slices like this: Remove all day Sunday Non-Sundays remove 11:00 - 12:00 Non-Sundays remove time after 5:00 pm Non-Sundays remove time before 8:00 am Non-Sundays remove time 9:15 - 9:30 am Output: # of minutes left in the input date range I don't need anything overly-general. I could hardcode the rules to simplify the code. If anyone knows of sample code or a library/function somewhere, or has some pseudo-code ideas, I'd love something to start with. I didn't see anything in DateUtils, for example. Even a basic function that calculates the number of minutes of overlap in two date ranges to subtract out would be a good start.

  • Is there a quick way to build & install to iPhone (from XCode) without starting the app?

    In XCode, I can use CMD-R to run (or CMD-Y to debug), and my app will compile, install on the phone & start-up. (I've already prepped my phone & XCode so this part works as expected.) What I'd LIKE to do is type CMD-<something else> and have my program compile & install on the phone, but NOT start-up. I realize that I can just CMD-B to build, then go through some rigamarole to deploy, but I'm hoping one of you smart-folk can tell me the lazy-man's shortcut for all of this. Thanks!

  • How to develop a Jquery plugin to find the first child that match with a selector?

    I'm trying to make a Jquery plugin (findFirst()) to find the first child with a given characteristics (something in the middle of the find() and children() functions. For instance, given this markup: <div id="start"> <div> <span>Hello world</span> <ul class="valid-result"> ... </ul> <ul class="valid-result"> <li> <ul class="not-a-result"> ... </ul> </li> </ul> <div> <ul class="valid-result"> ... </ul> </div> </div> </div> If you ask for $("#start").findFirst('ul') it should return all ul lists that I have tagged with the valid-result class, but not the ul with class not-a-result. It is, this function has to find the first elements that matches with a given selector, but not the inner elements that match this selector. This is the first time I try to code a Jquery function, and what I've already read doesn't helps me too much with this. The function I have developed is this: jQuery.fn.findFirst = function (sel) { return this.map(function() { return $(this).children().map(function() { if ($(this).is(sel)) { return $(this); } else { return $(this).findFirst(sel); } }); }); } It works in the sense it tries to return the expected result, but the format it returns the result is very rare for me. I suppose the problem is something I don't understand about Jquery. Here you have the JFiddle where I'm testing. EDIT The expected result after $("#start").findFirst('ul') is a set with all UL that have the class 'valid-result' BUT it's not possible to use this class because it doesn't exist in a real case (it's just to try to explain the result). This is not equivalent to first(), because first returns only one element!

    Intro: EDIT: See solution at the bottom of this question (c++) I have a programming contest coming up in about half a week, and I've been prepping :) I found a bunch of questions from this canadian competition, they're great practice: http://cemc.math.uwaterloo.ca/contests/computing/2009/stage2/day1.pdf I'm looking at problem B ("Dinner"). Any idea where to start? I can't really think of anything besides the naive approach (ie. trying all permutations) which would take too long to be a valid answer. Btw, the language there says c++ and pascal I think, but i don't care what language you use - I mean really all I want is a hint as to the direction I should proceed in, and perhpas a short explanation to go along with it. It feels like I'm missing something obvious... Of course extended speculation is more than welcome, but I just wanted to clarify that I'm not looking for a full solution here :) Short version of the question: You have a binary string N of length 1-100 (in the question they use H's and G's instead of one's and 0's). You must remove all of the digits from it, in the least number of steps possible. In each step you may remove any number of adjacent digits so long as they are the same. That is, in each step you can remove any number of adjacent G's, or any number of adjacent H's, but you can't remove H's and G's in one step. Example: HHHGHHGHH Solution to the example: 1. HHGGHH (remove middle Hs) 2. HHHH (remove middle Gs) 3. Done (remove Hs) -->Would return '3' as the answer. Note that there can also be a limit placed on how large adjacent groups have to be when you remove them. For example it might say '2', and then you can't remove single digits (you'd have to remove pairs or larger groups at a time). Solution I took Mark Harrison's main algorithm, and Paradigm's grouping idea and used them to create the solution below.   • Which is more efficient regular expression?

    I'm parsing some big log files and have some very simple string matches for example if(m/Some String Pattern/o){ #Do something } It seems simple enough but in fact most of the matches I have could be against the start of the line, but the match would be "longer" for example if(m/^Initial static string that matches Some String Pattern/o){ #Do something } Obviously this is a longer regular expression and so more work to match. However I can use the start of line anchor which would allow an expression to be discarded as a failed match sooner. It is my hunch that the latter would be more efficient. Can any one back me up/shoot me down :-)

So in order to apply thames or colour schemes what should i do?     In my C# application i need to trigger some events when a VLC player (preferably) starts playback (a play button is pressed in VLC for example).Tried Windows Media Player classic with Microsoft Spy++ and observed messages that are sent when playback starts\repeats but i don't know how i could "catch" those messages in my C# code.So my question: is there any way to hook up to event in VLC (or WMP) and get notified about playback status (play, stop, start of repeat). My goal is to create a C# function that waits for start of playback event in player and then triggers some actions in my application (this should also happen when playback ends and starts repeating). What approach should i take here? Just to clearify: I don't want to embedded a new instance of VLC in my app, but instead control/read the "real" full version of VLC, started seperatly by the user

  • Best way to identify and dispose locked thread in java.

    I have to call a function 3rd party module on a new thread. From what I've seen, the call either completes quickly if everything went well or it just hangs for ever locking up the thread. What's a good way to start the thread and make the call and wait for a few secs and if the thread is still alive, then assuming it's locked up, kill (or stop or abandon) the thread without using any deprecated methods. I have something like this for now, but I'm not sure if this is the best way to do it and I want to avoid calling Thread.stop() as it's deprecated.   • Should I use C++0x Features Now?

    With the official release of VS 2010, is it safe for me to start using the partially-implemented C++0x feature set in my new code? The features that are of interest to me right now are both implemented by VC++ 2010 and recent versions of GCC. These are the only two that I have to support. In terms of the "safety" mentioned in the first sentence: can I start using these features (e.g., lambda functions) and still be guaranteed that my code will compile in 10 years on a compiler that properly conforms to C++0x when it is officially released? I guess I'm asking if there is any chance that VC++ 2010 or GCC will end up like VC++ 6; it was released before the language was officially standardized and consequently allowed grossly ill-formed code to compile. After all, Microsoft does say that "10 is the new 6". ;)

  • What sort of object is this and how to use it?

There are 3 main sections and 4 sub-parts consisting of "issuedTime" "text" "url" and "validToTime", how do you start to convert this to an object? If there was only 1 main section, it would be fairly simple to do however with 3 main parts and no identification for each main section has me scratching my head as where to start. Of course, i will not publish all this pages at the same time, but i'm looking for infos on how much pages should i start with without going to the sandbox.     I've worked a little bit with masks in AS3 but I'm not sure how I can do this with masks. I have two swf files that I have imported onto the Library as MC's with class names. One of the files is the start image and the other is the end image. The transition is a slide transition from the start image to the end image. You can think of the transition like in this example. But is it possible to do a slide transition like this using two swf's and "slide transitioning" between them?

Every variable I want available to all functions in my program I have to put a "static" in front of and also every function. What I'd like to know is how to avoid this, if possible? Also, small side question: creating public variables inside functions?   • What should I do to practice?

    I start a year long industrial placement in September where i will be coding in Java predominantly. I am going to use the summer to brush up on my Java as in year one of the degree Java was the main language taught for OOP modules. However this year i have had no Java exposure except for an algorithms module, which was one of eight, so as you can see i am probably getting really rusty!. What i wanted to know is, how does the "real world" java programming differ from university coding and what do you suggest i brush up on that would be different to my normal workings. As a start I definitely need to get familiar with a professional IDE like NetBeans, opposed to having used BlueJ throughout but more specifically what coding practices should I get more familiar with. I appreciate they wont expect me to be a qualified full developer and will give me time, but I would like to hit the ground running as it were, with me having full hopes to secure a permanent position after I finish my degree.

It seems that before I can start implementing this new technology into a web application of mine I need to have a web server which supports it. Does this involve downloading something and installing it on the said server? Is there more than one available? If so where do I find these? I already have experience with JavaScript and html/css of course, Are there any other languages I will need to learn to start using web sockets? Any additional information that you think I might need to know would be appreciated.

  • TimeOuts with HttpWebRequest when running Selenium concurrently in .NET

    I have a download worker that uses ThreadPool-threads to download files. After enhancing these to apply some Selenium tests to the downloaded files, I am constantly experiencing TimeOut-exceptions with the file downloaders and delays running the Selenium tests. More precisely: When the program starts, the download threads start downloading and a couple of pages are seamlessly processed via Selenium Shortly after, the first download threads start throwing TimeOut exceptions from HttpWebRequest. At the same time, commands stop flowing to Selenium (as observed in the SeleniumRC log), but the thread running Selenium is not getting any exception This situation holds as long as there are entries in the download list: new download threads are being started and terminate after receiving TimeOuts (without trying to lock Selenium) As soon as no more download threads are being started, Selenium starts receiving commands again and the threads waiting for the lock are processed sequentially as designed Now here's the download code: HttpWebRequest request = null; WebResponse response = null; Stream stream = null; StreamReader sr = null; try { request = (HttpWebRequest) WebRequest.Create(uri); request.ServicePoint.ConnectionLimit = MAX_CONNECTIONS_PER_HOST; response = request.GetResponse(); stream = response.GetResponseStream(); // Read the stream... } finally { if (request != null) request.Abort(); if (response != null) response.Close(); if (stream != null) { stream.Close(); stream.Dispose(); } if (sr != null) { sr.Close(); sr.Dispose(); } } And this is how Selenium is used afterwards in the same thread: lock(SeleniumLock) { selenium.Open(url); // Run some Selenium commands, but no selenium.stop() } Where selenium is a static variable that is initialized in the static constructor of the class (via selenium.start()). I assume I am running into the CLR connection limit, so I added these lines during initalization: ThreadPool.GetMaxThreads (out maxWorkerThreads, out maxCompletionPortThreads); HttpUtility.MAX_CONNECTIONS_PER_HOST = maxWorkerThreads; System.Net.ServicePointManager.DefaultConnectionLimit = maxWorkerThreads + 1; The + 1 is for the connection to the SeleniumRC, due to my guess that the Selenium client code also uses HttpWebRequest. It seems like I'm still running into some kind of deadlock - although the threads waiting for the Selenium lock do not hold any resources. Any ideas on how to get this working?

It looks like there are beginTransaction() and commit() methods - so I'm not sure are these just convenience wrappers around staright SQL? or are they doing some more job behind the doors?   • Checking if parsed date is within a date range

    So I am using a scripting language with c++-like syntax, and I am trying to think of the best way to check if a date is within range. The problem I am running into is that if the current day is in a new month, the check is failing. Here is what my code looks like: if(iMonth >= iStartMonth && iMonth <= iEndMonth) { if(iDay >= iStartDay && iDay <= iEndDay) { if(iYear >= iStartYear && iYear <= iEndYear) { bEnabled = true; return; When I have something like this: Start date: 3 27 2010 End Date: 4 15 2010 Current Date: 3 31 2010 The day check fails because if (iDay <= iEndDay) does not pass. The scripting language doesn't have a lot of time related functions, and I can't compare timestamps because I'm allowing users to put like "03:27:2010" and "04:15:2010" as start/end dates in a config file. I'm assuming I am just not thinking straight and missing an easy fix.
