  • Python Threading, loading one thread after another

    Hi, I'm working on a media player and am able to load in a single .wav and play it. As seen in the code below. foo = wx.FileDialog(self, message="Open a .wav file...", defaultDir=os.getcwd(), defaultFile="", style=wx.FD_MULTIPLE) foo.ShowModal() queue = foo.GetPaths() self.playing_thread = threading.Thread(target=self.playFile, args=(queue[0], 'msg')) self.playing_thread.start() But the problem is, when I try to make the above code into a loop for multiple .wav files. Such that while playing_thread.isActive == True, create and .start() the thread. Then if .isActive == False, pop queue[0] and load the next .wav file. Problem is, my UI will lock up and I'll have to terminate the program. Any ideas would be appreciated.

  • What should I do or learn to better prepare myself for a co-op position?

    I'm currently taking computer systems in a technical institute and I will start looking for a coop job by next September. Since summer vacation is only a few weeks away, I was wondering what I should learn or do to help me land a job and do well in it. I'm pretty sure I'm ahead of most of my classmates since I got around 1.5 years "head start." For now, I'm planning to learn how to use source control (git - for no reason really) and was actually thinking of learning Scheme through SICP and maybe build something nice with it at the end. On the other hand, I'm wondering if it's better to expand on what I know right now and I'm thinking of C++ since I enjoy it a lot more than others like Java. Can I get advice on this? thanks!

  • long waiting time in linking

    Hi, here is the situation. I am using visual studio 2005. the solution contains lots of projects, 34 projects in all, and the start up projects depends on others. then in linking part, it'll wait a long time before the real linking starts. I am pretty sure it's because of too many projects depended, as when I use a solution with 10 of the 34 projects(keep other projects as headers&libs), it'll start instantly. so any one has any idea that I can reduce the waiting time? thx.

  • Struggling to "clear" a CGLayer -- can it even be done?

    So I'm doing this repetitively - making a CGLayer, doing some processing, and then releasing it. This happens a lot in real time -- so surely there is a lot of overhead in making a whole new CGLayer each time? Surely it would be better to just keep lair around, and start fresh each time? However, I do not know any way, at all, to "erase" or "start from blank" a CGLayer?? Can anyone help on this? There is a function CGContextBeginPath(cc) but it's confusing: it seems to only clear out "that" path, it does not erase all of the CGLayer back to a blank canvas. how to return a CGLayer to a blank canvas????? Does anyone know?     How would one go about defining something like this in an xsd? <start> <request type="typeA"> <elementOnlyFoundInA /> </request> <request type="typeB"> <elementOnlyFoundInB /> </request> </start> I ran xsd.exe just to get an idea of what it might look like, but it does not appear recognize the relationships between the value of type and the contents of the request. Is it even possible to define contents based on an attribute like this in an xsd file?

    I was thinking about how to implement a process that gives the number of discrete intervals in time that occurred since it started. Am I losing accuracy here? How do I implement this without loss of accuracy after a while and after heavy client abuse. I'm trying to learn C# and my first project would be a program that starts the timer on a PC by clicking a button on another PC in the network. The problem is, I don't know where to start?     I am trying to make C# launch an application (in this case open office), and start sending that application keypresses such that it would appear as though someone is typing. So ideally, I would be able to send a running open office process the keypress for the letter "d", and open office would then type d on the paper. Can anyone give me direction as per how to go about this? I export the ggplot2 chart into ps file, and try to PostScriptTrace it as instructed in grImport, but it just keep giving me error of "Unrecoverable error, exit code 1". I already got the individual readings, I'm just not sure how to add them up.     I have an application which I'm adding pictures and these are automatically converted to binary and stored in a single file. how can I save several images, I keep in an XML file start and size of each set of refente to an image byte.   • PHP class referencing confusion across multiple files

    I have an index.php file that has 3 includes <?php require_once('mod.php'); $mod = new Mod(); require_once('start.php'); require_once('tools.php'); ....some code.... ?> I need to be able to reference the $mod object inside the start.php and tools.php. How do I pass that object to be referenced by those 2 other require files? Basically the mod.php is a class that has an array list generated in its __construct(). I want to use that array list data inside the startup.php and tools.php file but not sure how to pass in the existing one without calling "new" inside both of those files separately which doesn't do what I need since it resets everything.   • JPA GeneratedValue with GenerationType.TABLE does a big jump after jvm restart

    When I start my server and add an entry, the generated id will start with 1, 2, so on and so forth. After a restart, adding an entry would generate an id like 32,xxx. Another restart and adding of entry would generate an id like 65,xxx. I don't know why this is happening. Here's a snippet of the annotation I'm using for my id.   • Can I use GNU Screen completely transparently/automatically?

    Screen is amazing, of course, but I don't want to have to think about it. I often ssh to a machine, start doing a bunch of stuff, and then think "gosh, I wish I had thought to start a screen session before doing all that so I could reconnect to this from home later". I'd like to have screen automatically started whenever I log in to a machine. And when I get disconnected, I want to be able to immediately and simply reconnect without fussing with "screen -ls" and "screen -dr". I have a script that implements one solution to this problem which I'll post as an answer. I'm interested to see other approaches.

  • How to set up a different context to point to an external directory outside webapps Tomcat/Java

    Hi Folks, I am successful to map an external directory by creating an xml file like : <Context path="/uploads" docBase="C:\uploads\photos" crossContext="true"/> And I named this xml file as uploads.xml and saved under "#Tomcat\conf\Catalina\localhost" here # = Directory where Tomcat has been installed. And when I start Tomcat(5) from cammand line (batch file) i.e. startup.bat The images can be accessed normally like "http://localhost:8080/uploads/user1.png" It works. Actually I am using IntelliJ Idea 8 for devevelopment. When I start Tomcat from IntelliJ Idea, I am not able to access the context i.e. the images. "http://localhost:8080/uploads/user1.png" It shows "HTTP 400 Bad Request" The context path for my project is "http://localhost:8080/spark/" Any help or suggestion is needed at the earliest time.
