    I AM GETTING THE FOLLOWING ERROR IN A VERY SIMPLE CLASS LIBRARY: Error 1 Unable to copy file "obj\Debug\SMIT.SysAdmin.BusinessLayer.Resources.resources" to "obj\Debug\SMIT.SysAdmin.BusinessLayer.SMIT.SysAdmin.BusinessLayer.Resources.resources". Could not find file 'obj\Debug\SMIT.SysAdmin.BusinessLayer.Resources.resources'. SMIT.SysAdmin.BusinessLayer Going to the Project Properties-Resource tab, I see that I defined do resources. Still, I tried to delete the resource file and recreate by going to the resource tab. When I recompile, I still get the same error. Why is it even looking for a resource file? I define no resources on teh project properties tab and added no new resource file items. Any suggestions of things to try? Update: I found the missing file in an old backup. I copied it to the location where the compiler expected it, and then successfully recompiled the project that previously had compile time errors. However, when I rebuild the entire solution, it deletes the file that I previously restored and I'm back to where I started. My solution contains several projects (maybe 10 or so). Could VS 2005 be having a problem determining dependencies and the proper order to compile these projects?

  • Locating binding errors

    I'm dealing with a large WPF application that is outputting a large number of binding errors. A typical error looks like this: System.Windows.Data Error: 4 : Cannot find source for binding with reference 'RelativeSource FindAncestor, AncestorType='System.Windows.Controls.ItemsControl', AncestorLevel='1''. BindingExpression:Path=HorizontalContentAlignment; DataItem=null; target element is 'MenuItem' (Name=''); target property is 'HorizontalContentAlignment' (type 'HorizontalAlignment') Problem is I don't know where in the app this is coming from. Searching the entire solution for AncestorType={x:Type ItemsControl} doesn't necessary help since I still don't know which result is the culprit. I've tried setting PresentationTraceSources.DataBindingSource.Switch.Level = SourceLevels.All; but the extra information doesn't help locate the problematic bindings. File names and line numbers is really what I need. Is there anyway to get this information?

  • Winforms: Enabling Localization by default (enforcing a project/solution policy)

    Is there an easy way to set the Localizable property to true for newly created usercontrols / forms? The scope of the setting should ideally be a solution or a project. In other words I want to say that this project/solution should be localizable, and then if I add a new form or control VS should automatically set the property to true. Edit: Although custom templates are possible, in a larger team they might not be always used. So it's more about enforcing a policy, ensuring that the team members do not ommit to set the property for the projects/solutions where it is a requirement that all forms/controls containing text resources should be localizable. Note: Team Foundation Server is not an Option.

    I´m trying out entity framework included in VS2010 but ´ve hit a problem with my database/model generated from the graphical interface.   • Crazy VS Designer Errors

    Here's a strange one. After renaming a class, one of my forms began giving me errors in the designer, refusing to open. Funny thing is, the form worked just fine when I ran the program. I began reverting my changes to deduce the problem. I have now reverted completely back to the last commit - in which I know the form was working in the designer - cleaned the solution, and deleted the bin/ and obj/ folders, as well as the *.suo file for good measure. The form still does not display in designer. Here are the errors it gives: Could not find 'MyNamespace.MyControl'. Please make sure that the assembly that contains this type is referenced. If this type is a part of your development project, make sure that the project has been successfully built. The variable 'myControl1' is either undeclared or was never assigned. The variable is both declared and assigned, and MyControl builds fine (again, the form works fine when the program is actually run). Stranger still, if I try to create a new form and drag a MyControl onto it, I get this Entity-Framework error: Failed to create component 'MyControl'. The error message follows: 'System.ArgumentException: The specified named connection is either not found in the configuration, not intended to be used with the EntityClient provider, or not valid. at System.Data.EntityClient.EntityConnection.ChangeConnectionString(String newConnectionString) at System.Data.EntityClient.EntityConnection..ctor(String connectionString) at System.Data.Objects.ObjectContect.CreateEntityConnection(String connectionString) etc. etc. There is nothing wrong with my connection string: it worked before, and, again, it works when I actually run the program (the control already exists on the old form from the previous commit). Any ideas whatsoever? I am completely at a loss.   • One Model to Rule Them All - VS2010 UML, ADO.NET Entity Data Model, and T4

    I worked on a fairly large project a while back where we modeled the classes in Enterprise Architect and generated the (partial) POCO classes (complete with model-driven business rule validations), persistence (NHibernate mapping file) and DDL. Based on certain model attributes we could flag alternate generation strategies or indicate that a particular portion would be entirely hand-coded. There was a good deal of initial investment, but it paid large dividends over the lifetime of a 15 developer, 3 year project. I'm investigating doing something similar with the current Microsoft technology stack. The place I'm stuck is that class modeling is done with the VS 2010 UML tools, but logical data modeling is done with Entity Data Modeler. Is it a reasonable path to use VS 2010 UML as the "single source of truth" and code generate the edmx files based on the class model? That's the inverse of the common path to create the entity model and use a POCO generator to generate classes. However, a good class model can be used to generate much more than just the properties so I tend to view it as a better choice than the entity model.

    Ok I'm very new to databases and C# in general, but I'm using a piece of code that exports dataset data to an Excel file, and its taking issue with the date/time format. I'm using the MySQL connector so the rowtype is MySql.Data.Types.MySqlDateTime. Is there any quick way to convert it into System.DateTime so I can slot it straight into the case statement? Here's a link to the code I used, I copied it verbatim so I've not copied and pasted it here.   • Using Dynamics AX's Business Conectors to Generate Sales Orders

    So, just like the title says, I need to create an application that gets data from another Database, and shoves it through Dynamics AX's throat. This data comes from a portal, not Enterprise Portal, but a PHP one. It stores some data from the order in a separate database. So as said, I need to 'import' that to AX, creating the sales orders with the data I have from the other database. Also I'd like some references on Business Conector too, does it handle all those RECIDS and references that AX uses for me? Thanks in advance. EDIT: OK, I'm able to insert records in AX's database, theres just one problem. I can't generate the internal ID. Like, the 'AccountNum' field for the CustTable. Is there a way to capture it from business connector?

    I am using the VSSConveter.exe tool to import from VSS6 (using 2005 ide) to TFS2008. I have run analyze (no errors) and migrate WITH a user mapping file (containg the vss/domain user mappings) I would like to persist in tfs the check-in user of the file, currently the check-in user for all versions of file shows as admin (the account im running the import with), the origional check-in user is appended to the check-in comment. For example:- TestFile.aspx in VSS Check in ver: 1 - User:Adam - Comment:TEST1 Check in ver: 2 - User:James - Comment:TEST2 Check in ver: 3 - User:Joel - Comment:TEST2 After import into TFS Check in ver: 1 - User:mydomain\Admin - Comment:TEST1 (Commited by Adam) Check in ver: 2 - User:mydomain\Admin - Comment:TEST2 (Commited by James) Check in ver: 3 - User:mydomain\Admin - Comment:TEST2 (Commited by Joel) In TFS I want the user to show as the correct domain user as configured in my user mapping file. Is this possible, or is this just how the VSSConverter program works?

  • MS Access 2003 - Unbound Form uses INSERT statement to save to table; what about subforms?

    So I have an unbound form that I use to save data to a table on button click. Is there a way I can have subforms for entry that will allow me to save data to the table within that same button click? Basically I want to add more entry options for the user, and while I know other ways to do it, I am particularly curious about doing it this way (if it can be done). So lets say the 'parent form' is frmMain. And there are two child forms "sub1" and "sub2". Just for example sake lets say on frmMain there are two text boxes: txtTitle & txtAuthor. sub1 and sub2 both have a text Box on them that represent something like prices. The idea is Title & author of a book, and then a price at each store (simplified). I tried this and got an "Access cannot find the form "" ". I think I can pretty much see why on this approach too, because when I click the button that calls the new sub form into the parent form, the values that were just entered are not held/saved as sub1 closes and sub2 opens. I should mention that the idea above is not intended to be a one or the other approach, rather both sub forms used everytime. so this is an example. i want to use this method (if possible) to have about 7 different sub form choices in one form, and be able to save to a table via a SQL statement. I realize that there may be better ways, but I am just wondering if I can get there with this approach out of curiousity. Thanks as always!

    I have a 3rd party DLL that I am trying to use in a win32 C++ application. The DLL alone is all that I have. I believe this library is written in C and I assume is not exposed to COM. Is LoadLibrary() the function must commonly used for this task in Windows? If so can someone provide me with an example of how it is used? I created a blank win32 in VS so I don't have any of the windows specific headers included etc. Thanks!

    Hello, It is possible to create an instance of a C# class within a aspx.vb codebehind file? When I try this within the Page_Load event: Dim oFlow As New Flow(HttpContext.Current.Request) I get the Type 'Flow' is not defined.   • Intellisense in header files

    I just right now "migrated" from C# to C++/CLR. First I was annoyed, that I had to write all class' declarations twice (into .h and .cpp). Then I figured out, that I could place the code also into the h-files - it compiles at least. Well, I deleted all cpp's of my classes and now I realized, VS won't give me any Intellisense when I work on my h-files. I guess I should not place my code in the hfiles (the code won't be reused in other projects for sure), but I find it terrible to adjust all method declarations at two places... Plus I have to switch back and forth to see what modifier my method etc. and it is not nicely all in one place like in C# (with it's pros and cons). I'm sorry this is a newbie question, but I just wanted to make sure that there isn't any possibility to enable intellisense for hfiles. Or at least to learn, that I am completely on the wrong path...   • Over-enthusiastic Intellisense in VS2010 - can I tweak it?

    Since I have upgraded from VS2008 to VS2010, I've been having an increasingly infuriating battle with the Intellisense. For example, when specifying CSS styles, when I press Enter to start an new line, Intellisense (appropriately) lists available Styles to me. And if I select color and then type ':', it presents a list of color presets - often helpful. However, if I type in a space (I like them for readability) or if I type '#' to enter RGB values, it selected the default Intellisense selection, in this case inherits. Another example is in an ASP.NET page - say I am concatenating strings, I type myString =, I get an Intellisense pop-up. If I type space or '"' (to enter a literal) or '.' (so select a property or method within a WITH block), the Intellisense selects the first entry in the list. I can dismiss the Intellisense pop-ups with escape but it makes it incredibly slow to code. This behaviour is different to my VS2008 set-up. I can't seem to find any way to configure Intellisense to behave differently... I really only want it to select and Intellisense entry when I type or ... at least, certainly not when I type '"' or ' ' or '.'!

  • silverlight 3 navigation page not availble in VS as item to add

    I've recently upgraded my computer from Vista Home Premium 64-bit to Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit. I've re-installed VS 2008 web express, and re-installed all the silver light sdk's, tools, etc. But now when I want to add a Silverlight Navigation Page, it is not avialble to me in the list of items that can be added. The navigation dll is installed, as my project existed before the OS upgrade. The program still runs just fine as is, but I want to add another navigation page item to the project, and I'm stumped for how to do it. Any ideas? Thanks, Steve
