• Debugging JuniperSetupClientInstaller.exe Problems

  I recently moved from Windows 7 to Windows 2008 server so I can run SharePoint on my physical machine and not through a VPC, so I've been trying to get everything re-installed on my system.  As part of that process, I tried re-establishing a connection back to one of client's corporate networks and their system prompted me to run JuniperSetupClientInstaller.exe.  Normally this runs, finishes, and you can connect to the VPN no problem.  This time, however, it failed.  Unfortunately, there were no error messages to let me know why - it just didn't work. I've had success running application in "compatability mode" so I gave that a shot - same problem.  But during the installation I noticed that JuniperSetupClientInstaller.exe unpacks a number of files into a directory (you can see the exact location in the details of the installer) and then runs a DIFFERENT application - JuniperSetupClient.exe.  If you navigate to that directory, you will see a text file named JuniperSetupClient.log that contains information about the setup process. In my case, I installed a SharePoint site on Port 3333 - which the Juniper software needs to communicate with the VPN.  There was a nice message in the log file saying the VPN software could not bind to port 3333 which quickly alerted me to the issue, and moving the site off that port number fixed the issue.  However, it would have been nice to had an error message of sorts because I spent a chunk of time futilely researching compatibility issues.

  Whenever I try to do anything at all that requires my password it returns this: u7ur7l3@ubuntu:~$ sudo sudo: /usr/lib/sudo/sudoers.so must be owned by uid 0 sudo: fatal error, unable to load plugins u7ur7l3@ubuntu:~$ So I can't install anything from the Software Center / package manager or run any commands in terminal that require my password. I can log in, but that's pretty much it. I accidentally changed the permissions of some files, then changed some more trying to fix it :/. Now I'm completely lost as to what to do. This is what happened when I tried to get sudo working again using pkexec: u7ur7l3@ubuntu:~$ pkexec chown root /usr/lib/sudo/sudoers.so Error getting authority: Error initializing authority: Error calling StartServiceByName for org.freedesktop.PolicyKit1: GDBus.Error:org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ExecFailed: Failed to execute program /usr/lib/dbus-1.0/dbus-daemon-launch-helper: Success u7ur7l3@ubuntu:~$ sudo ls sudo: /usr/lib/sudo/sudoers.so must be owned by uid 0 sudo: fatal error, unable to load plugins And to change permissions I was using Root Actions as a dolphin service/ plugin thing, so history doesn't show me the permission changes. I just realized that sounds don't work at all anymore. When I go into Phonon my default settings and playback devices aren't even there. Also I don't have the option to shutdown, I can only log out or leave.

• PostgreSQL service doesn't start on Windows 7

  (Not sure if this should be on Stack Overflow or Super User... please move if needed.) When I start the PostgreSQL service on Windows 7 x64, it immediately stops. When I check my log folder (C:\PostgreSQL\9.1\data\pg_log\), I see new but empty log files. The Event Viewer doesn't tell me anything other than the fact that the server did not respond. I've even tried turning off my firewall (I don't have any antivirus or anything else), but nothing helps. The setup works fine when I'm on Windows XP (32-bit) (same computer, different partition). I can't figure out what's wrong, even though I've tried tracing the system calls. Is PostgreSQL compatible with Windows 7 x64 at all? Any ideas what the issue might be? More info: This problem also happens at the end of installation -- the service starts, then stops immediately, before the installer can do anything. Installation log: Starting the database server... Like I said it appears all mail is getting passed through, but I hate seeing errors and it is confusing me as to why it would be attempting to connect to other machines as seen in the log.   I have troubles installing VC runtime libraries to be able to install SQL Server Compact Edition. The same problem causes also other apps to fail when installing, but I chose this one as a good representative example of my problem (and also it's provided by Microsoft, so "installation should work"). • Apache2 on Raspbian: Multiviews is enabled but not working

  I recently moved webserver, from a ubuntuserver set up by my brother (I have sudo) to a rasbianserver set up by my self. On the other server multiviews worked out of the box, but on the raspbian it does not seem to work althoug it seems to be enabled out of the box there as well. What I am trying to do is to get it to find my.doma.in/mobile.php when I enter my.doma.in/mobile in the adress field. • Random touchpad and keyboard freezes on new installation

  My touchpad and keyboard freeze up on my newly installed Ubuntu 10.10. They remain frozen until you shut down manually. No keys work, cursor doesn't move - it's like a screenshot. I was using Ubuntu 10.4 via wubi before on this Laptop where this problem never occurred. (I did not migrate wubi or upgrade to 10.10, it's a fresh start. 64-bit on Dell Studio, plenty of RAM, plenty of free space on partition etc.) I can't say there is a pattern yet, once it happened during the download of packages with the Update Manager, once it was just using Firefox, no other program running. In between these crashes the laptop was booted once, updates were installed etc., firefox was used and there weren't any problems. Both crashes should be in the attached kern.log and I noticed there were some error problems before the last crash (at the end, obviously). It seems the wireless was experiencing problems. This wasn't noticed on the user end, since the touchpad + keyboard were already frozen. kern.log: http://paste.ubuntu.com/552617/ How can the freezes be fixed? Edit: I will try Ctrl+Alt+F1 and then Ctrl+Alt+F7 when next freeze occurs, to see if it works again after this, as suggested here. But the keyboard seemed pretty frozen to me.

• SQL Server crashes when remote query fails

  Setup: I have a linked server setup on SQL Server 2005 which is pointing to an Oracle DB. The linked server has RPC enabled. Problem: When a query throws an exception on the remote server (Oracle DB) the SQL Server instance crashes. The logs say that the crash was due to some problem with the RPC call. Is there a way in which I can prevent the entire server to collapse but also use RPC over my linked server. EDIT: Event Log SQL Server is terminating because of fatal exception c0000005. This error may be caused by an unhandled Win32 or C++ exception, or by an access violation encountered during exception handling. Check the SQL error log for any related stack dumps or messages. This exception forces SQL Server to shutdown. To recover from this error, restart the server (unless SQLAgent is configured to auto restart). • Can't connect to MySQL server on '127.0.0.1' + Postfix

  I just installed Postfix and configured it to use MySQL.   I have a custom daemon that is managed by upstart on my Ubuntu server. It works perfectly except that I need to capture (log) the daemon's output. The official stanzas page says that I can use console logged to do this, but what file does it log to? I've also read that console logged is no longer a valid stanza. I'm currently using 0.3.9 (Hardy) but will upgrade to 0.6.x (Lucid) in a few months. If console logged in fact won't work with later versions, what do I use instead?

So I download fiddler to valid the affinity with my server and i see i got two value of key ArrAffinity in my cookie. • Performing a silent install of JDeveloper

  Installing JDeveloper Now that you have downloaded the latest version of JDeveloper from: the Oracle technology network, you are almost ready to install it. The problem is that the GUI installer is not as accessible as it could be. However, there is an alternative called a silent install. To perform a silent install, follow these steps: Download the silent.xml file into the same folder as the JDeveloper installer. You can customize the silent.xml file by setting the folder where JDeveloper will be installed, and by setting the location where you have a 1.6 jdk installed with the accessbridge already configured. The defaults are: JDeveloper wil lbe installed at c:\jdev a jdk is installed at c:\jdk\1.6.0_25 (see instructions in the top of the silent.xml file). Open a command window and navigate to the folder where the JDeveloper installer and silent.xml files are located. Run the following command: jdevstudio11120install.exe -mode=silent -silent_xml=silent.xml -log=install.log Note: this assumes that you are installing JDeveloper 11.1.2.0.0. Change the above command to match the installer package you have. This command will start by extracting the archive then the oracle installer will launch, but you just have to wait until the command prompt returns and voila it will be installed. To run JDeveloper: Now you can use windows explorer to navigate to the %JDEV_HOME% as specified in the silent.xml file (c:\jdev unless you changed it)and drill down to: jdeveloper\jdev\bin and now you have a couple of choices. If you have a 32-bit jdk configured with the accessbridge, then run jdevw.exe, however, if you have a 64-bit jdk copnfigured with the accessbridge, you should run jdev64w.exe. • Troubleshooting Amazon EC2 reboot

  We've had a server (CentOS) running in EC2 for a few months. It had been going pretty smoothly until today when we got an alarm that the server was unavailable (HTTP service couldn't be reached). So I tried SSHing into the box but that timed out as well. I logged into the EC2 console and it said the instance was running and there wasn't anything in the system log. One odd thing I noticed is that even though we have an Elastic IP attached to it (which shows in the Elastic IP management area), the instance detail is not showing that there is an EIP associated with the instance. I looked through the message log and the last thing I see around the time we got our alert was the dhclient renewed the lease. I'm guessing there may have been some sort of issue with the networking. How might I check if that was the problem, or if there were any other issues that may have caused our instance to stop responding?

• SQL Server 2008 R2 Installation and the Phantom of SQL Server 2005 Express

  Today I’ve happy started to install SQL Server 2008R2 on my development machine, which has this software installed Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard SQL Server 2008 SP1 CU5 Visual Studio 2008 SP1 BOL October 2009 AdventuresWorks2008 Databases SR4 Visual Studio 2010 RTM So, all the basic standard stuff. SQL Server 2008 R2 installation went smooth ‘till somewhere in the middle, where the rule engine checks that software pre-requisite are satisfied before starting to copy files. Here I had this @][@@[?!?! error: “The SQL Server 2005 Express Tools are installed. To continue, remove the SQL Server 2005 Express Tools.” Fun enough, I don’t have and I’ve never had SQL Server 2005 Express on my machine. Armed with patience I analyzed the install log here C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\100\Setup Bootstrap\Log\yyyymmdd_hhmmss\Detail.txt and I’ve found that the rule “Sql2005SsmsExpressFacet” is the one in charge of this check and it look for existance of the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\ShellSEM (on x86) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Microsoft SQL Server\90\Tools\ShellSEM (on x64) In my registry I’ve found that key existsing, due to the installation of the uber-cool Red-Gate SQL Search. I removed the registry key and here it is! SQL Server 2008 R2 is installing while I’m writing this post. A note to Microsoft: can you please add more detailed information on the setup while such error happens. Just saying “you have SQL Server 2005 Express installed” is not enough. Please show us what the rule look for and why it has failed directly in the Detailed Report, so that we don’t have to spend time to look for the needle in the logs.
