• Can't connect to STunnel when it's running as a service

  I've got STunnel configured to proxy non SSL POP3 requests to GMail on port 111. This is working fine when STunnel is running as a desktop app, but when I run the STunnel service, I can't connect to port 111 on the machine (using Outlook Express for example). The Stunnel log file shows the port binding is succeeding, but it never sees a connection. There's something preventing the connection to that port when STunnel is running as a service? • Why does httpd handle requests for wrong hostnames in SSL mode?

However, also browsing to https://subdomain.example.com:10443/ (with DNS set) shows me the same pages (after SSL certificate warning). I would have expected the directive ServerName example.com:10443 to reject all connection attempts to other server names. How can I tell the virtual host not to serve requests for URLs other than the top-level one?

• Ubuntu 12.04, xbmc, opengl, intel motherboard

  I've got an HTPC that I built myself, with a Asus P5G41T-M Motherboard. It's got an on-board HDMI port, and I've been using that with no problems. I started out with Mythbuntu ( an older version ), and recently updated to 12.04.1 LTS without any issues. I've been thinking about trying out XBMC for a while, and I decided to give it a go. Unfortunately, I seem to be running into quite a few issues. I got XBMC installed from the repos without any issues, but when I try to run it from a console, a box pops up with the following: XBMC needs hardware accelerated OpenGL rendering. Install an appropriate graphics driver. • Server freezes at XX:25

  We've ordered a 50 euro/month server on hetzner.de, it has debian OS. The problem is that server is freezing in random time of the day and nothing appears in log. Only hardware reboot helps. No. theres no way to look in server's console right after when it freezes, sadly. Datacenter supporters do not really want to help about that. Server has been installed 30th july, times and dates of freezes are down there: 6 august, 0:25 18 august, 2:27 21 august, 1:25 26 august, 23:26. We decided that freezing around ??:25 isn't a hardware fault, and decided to reinstall the OS. Later, 31 august, our admin backed up all files, reinstalled Debian, and restored the backup. But then, 7 september, server went down again, at 5:05. We thought it was related to Anyone else experiencing high rates of Linux server crashes during a leap second day? and turned ntp off. But then the server went down twice again, 21 september, 17:29 and 24 september, 20:27. I called all linux admins I knew to help with solving it and they said everything is fine about configuring OS and it could be hardware only. But they dont know why it always freezes at XX:25-30. Maybe some of you know about something related to that?

  I am on CentOS 5.8 final I recently installed auditd via yum install audit however I am unable to start it. No matter what I do it appears to be disabled (I want to enable it). The configuration is set to enforced and the server has been rebooted many a time however sestatus still returns SELinux status: disabled. Can anyone shine some light on this problem? EDIT: I don't know if it is related but I noticed the following message appearing in my /var/log/messages Jun 10 16:25:22 s1 iscsid: iSCSI logger with pid=2056 started! • Navigating nested RDP sessions

  Often at work I have to RDP into one server in order to get to another. And no, there's no chance of the network getting sorted out such that I can connect to all machines directly :) I'm wondering if anyone has any good tips/tricks for working in this scenario. I tend to open RDP sessions full screen, so the way to get back to my desktop is to click the minimize or restore buttons on the toolbar the drops down from the top of the screen when you are using a full-screen RDP session. The problem is that when you log into A and then from there log into B, A's toolbar covers B's, so there's no easy way to get back to the desktop of A without logging out of B. At least as far as I can see. Maybe there's a keyboard shortcut that can pop you out of the innermost session? At the moment, I try to not use full screen mode on the nested session, but apart from having to remember to set that before I connect, it reduces the workspace and is something I'd like to avoid.

• Cannot re-install Ubuntu 12.04 via USB (USB booting issue)

  I've read the previous questions related to my same problem regarding the USB not booting issue and have tried everything from what was replied in those post's but still no luck. I will tell you everything I have done so far (If it helps in any way...) 1) Previously I had Windows 7 running on my laptop, where I downloaded the official torrent ISO (i386 desktop) and using Unetbootin I made a bootable USB 2) Restarted the laptop with the USB connected and IT BOOTED, then I installed it on my HDD(Internal) replacing my Windows 7 3) After installing it restarted and I took some time to explore Ubuntu after the log in, then went online and followed some website for the things to do after installing Ubuntu 12.04.....and then there were errors while installing some softwares and plug-ins. The error asked me to check if i was connected to the Internet properly....while I was surfing facebook good as always on an open Firefox. The same error comes when installing Ubuntu one. 4) so I decided to re-install Ubuntu thinking I had done something wrong during the installation (I'm installing from the same USB)...and it didn't boot. I checked the boot priority and it was/is set in USB first (as always). To say in detail what happens is when I restart the USB light flashes at start, later on stops and in the screen the installed Ubuntu 12.04 loads up for me to log in (meaning it's not booting from the USB). By reading you can see that I haven't done much and I honestly didn't even touch the system settings to mess things up. As I have mentioned above I've tried everything in the previous post's in this related topic and it didn't work so I'm hoping for a new solution as a reply. Thanks in advance :) Edited: I wanted to add this I want to clean install instead of solving errors so please give a step by step guide. thanks for any help :)

• restricting access only through domains on nginx on virtual hosts

My problem is that when i try to access the user using the IP address i get one of the sites in the virtual hosts too.. Although i disabled the default (removed the symbolic link) from sites-enabled folder but still not solved it for me. any suggestions?

• ubuntu 12.04 not responding after software update

  Yesterday, I did a software update and since then the system became unusable. To be more precise, I login and then I see only the background image without any bars, images etc.. This happened after updating the system. Please find here the relevant part /var/log/apt/history.log. I'm running 64 bit 12.04 distribution on nVidia. The 2-3 first restarts after the upgrade it was complaining about compiz/unity crashes and then the situation is as described above. I would be the most grateful of you could help me on this. • crontab not executing all lines

  I have a sudo crontab like this to sync time: # m h dom mow dow command 0 6 * * * ntpdate 10.3.3.3 >> /var/mylog/ntp.log 0 7 * * * /var/mylog/backup.sh >> /var/mylog/backup.log The problem I am having is that the first line (ntpdate) never seems to execute. If I run it manually with sudo that line works. cron does run the backup.sh at the 7, but it never executes then ntp sync at 6. The syslog doesn't seem to show anything. System is Ubuntu 10.04 LTS.

• Management Reporter Installation – Lessons Learned Part II - Dynamics GP

  After feeling pretty good about my deployment skills of Management Reporter for Dynamics GP a few weeks ago, I ran into two additional lessons learned that I wanted to share. First, on another new deployment, I got the error shown below which says “An error occurred while creating the database.  View the installation log for additional information.”  This problem initially pointed me to KB 2406948 which did not provide resolution. After several hours of troubleshooting, I found there is an issue if the defaults database locations in SQL Server are set to the root of a drive. You will want to set the default to something like the following to get it installed; C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL10.MSSQLSERVER\MSSQL\DATA.  My default database locations for the data and log files were indeed sitting on the H:\ and I:\ drives. To change this property in your SQL Server Instance you need to open SQL Server Management Studio, right click on the server, and choose properties and then database settings. When I initially got the error, I briefly considered creating the ManagementReporter database by hand, but experience tells me that would have created more headaches down the road. The second problem I ran into with this particular deployment of Management Reporter happened when I started the FRx conversion utility.  The errors reads “The ‘Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0’ provider is not registered on the local machine. I had a suspicion that this error was related to the fact FRx uses outdated technology and I happened to be on a new install of Server 2008 R2.  A knowledge base search quickly pointed me to KB 2102486. • Website requests not reaching IIS?

  To start off with a confession, I am not a server admin - just a developer tasked with getting to the root of a problem. Please be gentle! I have an intranet ASP.NET website running in IIS on a virtual machine. The website is not accessed very often (the last IIS log file was modified nearly six months ago). Both the IP address and Host header value are now failing to return the website, and the IIS log still doesn't show any more recent activity. The virtual machine was moved to a different physical location a few months ago, and the IP address for it has changed. Could this be what has broken access to the site? What else should I be checking to solve this? I don't have totally unrestricted access to the building's network settings, structures, etc. I would be grateful for any advice, even if I can't use it myself it'll improve my knowledge of what's going on behind the scenes!

• keyboard mappings are totally screwed after updating to kde4

  I recently upgraded from KDE 3.5 to KDE 4, and I have been having weird issues with my keyboard. In one of the virtual consoles e.g. when I press ctrl + alt 1 , I can type perfectly, but in KDE, several of the number keys don't work, the left and right arrows don't work either. I'm slowly beginning to wade through the mountains of documentation about the X keyboard model, but there has to be a better way. Does anyone no what it is? Edit: 1234567890 ! after deleting the entire .kde folder. but only until I change the Keyboard settings from the "system settings" applet, then its hosed full time. Regardless of what I set the settings too. (restore to default settings doesn't) 2nd Edit: I'm using Gentoo AMD64, I was upgrading from KDE 3.5 KDE 4.2. I think I had manual settings before, although I didn't change anything. I was originally running KDE without HAL until that stop working a year or so ago. • Filemaker 10 Advanced sending email via script & SMTP

  We are using a windows server box to run the databases but we have found via the headers that the emails are send from the local workstation. We have moved to a new email system and have set up a local linux server to securely send email out of our network to devices that do not support new protocols and encryption. But once we set up the script in filemaker 10 advanced (the local machine os x) we set it to the ip of our local box with no authentication but it does not send out an email. It creates a connection we see in the logs on the linux box but nothing more, additionally you can start a telnet connection with no issues. We have also made sure that there are no additional issue that we can see in our firewall policies. Any ideas where we should start? Does Filemaker 10 advanced log errors anywhere because I could not find any log files.

• Remote reboot over ssh does not restart

  I would like to remotely reboot my Ubuntu 12.04 LTS server via ssh. I do sudo reboot and I loose connection and the server connection does not reappear. It does not ping. When I go the the physical computer with a screen attached I see a black screen and hear that the server is still on. I do a hard power off (press power on button for a few seconds) and the server halts. After I press power on the server boots with no problem. As far as I remember the remote reboot has previously worked on that server. I wonder if sudo reboot & will help? I suppose I could also try sudo shutdown -r and see if that does any difference. I have listed an excerpt of /etc/log/syslog below. The last thing it records is the stopping of the logging. • Hanging page loads every n loads

  Hi Guys I recently moved my site to a new server (Apache 2, PHP5, MySQL5). The site is an Invision based forum. Every few posts / topics it just hangs. The data has been written because if you stop and reload, the post / thread is there. I thought it was a write issue initially, but nope. So, the data is written but the page load never completes. It doesn't leave the page where the data has been input. Whats the best way to trouble shoot this issue? The only thing I have done recently is reduce my MySQL timeouts, but I can't see that being an issue as the values are still big enough and there are no mentions of timeouts in the MySQL log. (For the record there is nothing in PHP's error log either) Thanks in advance!

• Sporadic '.Xauthority not writable, changes will be ignored' going from OSX -> Linux

  Every now and then when users SSH from their OS X (Snow Leopard) workstation to one of our Linux hosts they receive the message: /usr/bin/xauth: ~/.Xauthority not writable, changes will be ignored Of course, their X forwarded applications will not work at this point. However, if they log out and log right back in again they do not get the message and everything works as expected. On their Mac they get their home directory via AFP. The Linux machines get it via NFS. Any ideas on what could be going on here?

• subdomain/virtualhost problem on unix + apache

  Hello, I'm having a strangely difficult time setting up a subdomain (x.example.com). The main site works fine, but I get 404 errors attempting to hit x.example.com no matter how I set up the VirtualHost config.
