  • High CPU usage - symptoms moving from server to server after bouncing

    First off, I apologize if I didn't include enough information to properly troubleshoot this issue. This sort of thing isn't my specialty, so it is a learning process. If there's something I need to provide, please let me know and I'll be happy to do what I can. The images associated with my question are at the bottom of this post. We are dealing with a clustered environment of four WebLogic 9.2 Java application servers. The cluster utilizes a round-robin load algorithm. Other details include: Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_12-b04) BEA JRockit(R) (build R27.4.0-90_CR352234-91983-1.5.0_12-20071115-1605-linux-x86_64, compiled mode) Basically, I started looking at the servers' performance because our customers are seeing lots of lag at various times of the day. Our servers should easily handle the loads they are given, so it's not clear what's going on. Using HP Performance Manager, I generated some graphs that indicate that the CPU usage is completely out of whack. It seems that, at any given point, one or more of the servers has a CPU utilization of over 50%. I know this isn't particularly high, but I would say it is a red flag based on the CPU utilization of the other servers in the WebLogic cluster. Interesting things to note: The high CPU utilization was occurring only on server02 for several weeks. The server crashed (extremely rare; we are not sure if it's related to this) and upon starting it back up, the CPU utilization was normal on all 4 servers. We restarted all 4 managed servers and the application server (on server01) yesterday, on 2/28. As you can see, server03 and server04 picked up the behavior that was seen on server02 before. The CPU utilization is a Java process owned by the application user (appown). The number of transactions is consistent across all servers. It doesn't seem like any one server is actually handling more than another. If anyone has any ideas or can at least point me in the right direction, that would be great.     The other day I have noticed that there are 3 screws missing from the bottom of my 3 month old HP Pavilion dv7t-7000 laptop. This is causing me various problems such as an unstable screen, and who knows what else soon. My laptop is still under the basic warranty, however, I live outside the USA where I purchased it.   • Log ports opened by an application

    I'm searching for something like: tcpdump -p PID # But tcpdump does not know the PID or lsof -i --continuous # But lsof just runs and exits, no «live logging» to log which connections an application opens. In my case, I want to find out to which port git connects when committing. This happens in a fraction of a second, so I cannot use lsof. If there is a lot of traffic, filtering by PID or process name would be useful.

  • SNMP HOSTMIB.MIB not loading?

    Forgive me if the answer is something glaringly obvious but I just can't seem to get access to any OIDs under the HOST branch in SNMP. I've used an SNMP browser to inspect a few of my systems and none of them show a HOST branch under ISO.ORG.DOD.INTERNET.MGMT.MIB-2. Any thoughts as to why? I'm looking to monitor a few computer's hardware resources via SNMP and unfortuantely all such OIDs live under the missing HOST branch, Any thoughts?

    I've just started using selinux in the last 6 months and am getting to grips with it. However, using sealert on a new CENTOS 6 server, Im not getting the level of detail I was with CENTOS 5. To illustrate: Running sealert -a /var/log/audit/audit.log On CENTOS 5 I get: Summary: SELinux is preventing postdrop (postfix_postdrop_t) "getattr" to /var/log/httpd/error_log (httpd_log_t). Detailed Description: SELinux denied access requested by postdrop. It is not expected that this access is required by postdrop and this access may signal an intrusion attempt. It is also possible that the specific version or configuration of the application is causing it to require additional access. Allowing Access: Sometimes labeling problems can cause SELinux denials. You could try to restore the default system file context for /var/log/httpd/error_log, restorecon -v '/var/log/httpd/error_log' If this does not work, there is currently no automatic way to allow this access.     I'm testing Windows 8 RP. Installed tens of apps from market. What I wanna know is, is there any way to save (or maybe sync with Windows Live account) installed app list, and install these saved applications in future - RTM version of OS? I mean, somehing like on Apples' devices - icloud features function that I'm talking about. You can install apps on iPhone and sync with iCloud account. Then you can re-install these apps on another device, which signed in with your login into icloud.

  • Exchange 2003 mailbox migrated to 2010 not showing up in Address book

    I have migrated about 45 mailboxes at this point from our single instance of Exchange 2003 to a High Availability Exchange 2010 environment successfully. However one mailbox moved successfully and the user is able to send and receive e-mail internally and externally with no problems but they do not show up in the Global Address List. The OAB is owned by an Exchange 2010 mailbox server. What am I missing?

    Is there a way to simulate a malfunctioning device or a faulty cable in a FC SAN network? edit: I know shutting down a port on a switch is an option, I'd like to simulate high error rates though. In an ethernet network it would be a simple case of adding a transparent bridge that discards a given percent of the packets, but I have absolutely no idea how to tackle that in an Fibre Channel environment...

  • migrating innodb ib* files to different server and distribution.

    One of our customers had a break in on an old centos 4.4 machine, so I booted a debian live cd and copied the whole /var/lib/mysql. I then, on a new debian, copied the desired database and ibdata+iblogfiles, and removed the "autoextend" bits from my.cnf - restarted mysql. But I get 'Incorrect information in file'. Paths are the same as the old centos server, and permissions and ownership is correct. What am I missing?

  • Are Noise-Canceling headphones effective?

    I work in a pretty noisy environment, lots of noise near me like the TV and people yelling and talking in really loud voices. It makes it really hard to concentrate and since I can't really move my PC to another part of the house I was thinking of getting a decent pair of noise-canceling headphones. I've never owned or used a pair before so I wanted to ask, do they block outside noise completely? As in, I'll hear nothing but silence as long as I'm wearing them?

What we want is that HQ to be able to see the live/recorded videos of each remote site and including itself.     I have been wanting to experiment with Windows clustering systems in my spare time, so I need a free, preferably open source, iSCSI Target that can support 2k3 and 2k8 fail-over and possibly High availability clustering. I have tried the ubuntu iscsi target package in a vmware environment, but it fails at the 2k8 tests. In simple terms I want to build a "Poor man's San" for windows and have it be able to do more than just be drives.

    I am trying to use a Drive Maps GPO on Server 2012 - User Configuration - Preferences - Windows Settings - Drive Maps. Problem is I want to map a drive to D: but this is automatically assigned to the DVD drive. Question is can I prevent D: being used as the next drive letter when Windows 8 boots up? I seem to recall in early version of Windows, or maybe it was Novell, a first_drive environment variable for this purpose.

    We have several different environments (developer dekstop, integration, QA, prod) which should have slightly different variants of the same httpd.conf file. As an example, the httpd.conf file configures that httpd should act as a reverse proxy and proxy certain URLs to Jetty, but the hostname of the Jetty instance is different in each environment. Is there a recommended practice for mangaging these kinds of differences? I looked around the apache documentation for the httpd.conf file and I didn't see anything that does what I need.
