• How do I update my servers' domain name for Reverse DNS?

  I'm updating my mail servers' rDNS and I think I have it all figured out except for one thing. When I installed my OS (Debian Etch), the installer asked me to enter the "domain name". Is the "domain name" updated by using the hostname command? If so, which config file(s) are updated when using the hostname command? If not, how do I change my servers' domain name? My current /etc/hosts: 127.0.0.1 localhost 67.228.178.164 mrspock.example-old.com mrspock My current /etc/hostname: mrspock $ hostname -f mrspock.example-old.com I need to update hostname -f to be mrspock.example-new.com.

• Thunderbird replacement with PGP support

  Is there any good Thunderbird replacement with full PGP support ? To be more exact replacement for (Thb +Enigmail this is the tandem Im using now) Best way would be if PGP would be built in into application. Commercial software is also fine :) excluding M$ software. What I need: - PGP support - application much more stable than Thunderbird, - support for Gmail out of the box including support for labels, - better search functionality (search in THB is far away from perfection), - cross platform (I should be able to run it on windows and Linux). So do you guys have an experience with other mail clients which have PGP support ?

• iOS calendar sync with Exchange 365

  I signed up for an Exchange 365 account with Microsoft Online. I followed the instructions to set up my iPhone to access my mail. However, I can't access the calendar function. When I go into the account settings screen on my iPhone, the options to turn on the calendar, contacts and reminders are missing! (See step 9 on this site to get an idea of what the dialog should look like). Anyone have an idea why those options are missing and how I could activate them? Thanks, Patrick

  I've an [email protected] email address which receives emails from clients and delivers it to various people within my company. However, since today I get the following bounce error message when sending an email to this address: Delivery to the following recipient failed permanently: [email protected] Technical details of permanent failure: Message rejected by Google Groups. Please visit http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=188131 to review our Bulk Email Senders Guidelines. The Bulk Senders Guidelines describe how to send out bulk emails. However, in my case I only receive one email and distribute it to a couple of people within my company. Same problem applies to the [email protected] email address which we use internally. Does anyone know how to resolve this issue? UPDATE: I just realized that emails coming from the outside and being sent to this address still work. It just seems to be emails coming from my domain. I found a solution and posted it below.

• What are the risks in putting website files in the "root" folder of a shared web hosting server?

  A site I've been asked to manage is hosted (shared) on GoDaddy, with this folder structure: / public_html public_ftp mail stats logs etc... However, the website files are stored in the / folder, and NOT in public_html. I'm not sure if this is how GoDaddy sets up their customers' accounts, or if the old web developer accidentally changed it from public_html to root. But when we call up GoDaddy to tell them to correct this (move files to public_html), they won't change it and insist that there is no security risk unless someone gets a hold of the FTP password. Is this true? (I have always read that website files should be inside public_html.) If not, where could this setting be changed? The .htaccess is empty.

• trigger script on postfix delivery errors

  I'm trying to get postfix to run a script on soft (4xx) and hard (5xx) delivery errors, but I'm not sure where to start. If I understand things correctly, I could insert (pipe-based) filters in the master.cf file, there's a whole 'milter' infrastructure available, an finally I suppose I could simply grep through the mail.info logs. So - any advice? Should I go the 'handle it via master.cf' route, and if so, what daemon should I intercept? 'bounce'? The grep-the-logs route is probably simplest, but I can't help but feel that there is a better way. Any advice appreciated!

  I manage a virtual office and our staff uses both SSH keys and passwords for authentication. If one of our staff forgets his password, is there a way to encrypt a temporary password using his public RSA ssh key so I can send it to him via e-mail? I've seen other questions related to this one, however the "answers" generally recommend against using the public/private SSH keys to perform general encryption/decryption and do not actually state if this is possible. I would like to know if it is indeed possible and what are the steps to encrypt and then decrypt the password.

• VMware postfix server drops connection

  Our physical server godzilla forwards mails to our virtuall VMware server b4. They are on the same net. Often connection drops, we can't ping godzilla with our b4. That means mails from godzilla won't reach b4 and the mails will be in handed into the mailq. Sometimes it takes some hours and the issue will auto fix itself, b4 will wake up and the mail will be delivered. Another thing if we remotely ssh into the b4, the b4 will wake up and and receive any mailq mails from godzilla and deliver them. netadmin@b4:/var/log$ arp -a ? • Is there a way to get the size of Outlook Calendar meeting items?

  In our Exchange environment, our company caps the size of an Exchange account at a certain size. That size is the sum of all the exchange related stuff stored on the server - includign both the Inbox and the Calendar. I can tell with the Mailbox properties, Folder Size... window that my Calendar is a good 50% of my account's footprint. Is there any way to get a more detailed view of what meetings in the Calendar are taking up the space? Given the general pattern of incoming mail, it's my belief that 2-5 meetings are responsible for 75% of the memory consumption... I just need to find which meetings are the problem... and with my current calendar, it's a bit like finding a needle in a haystack. Anyone got a trick for this?

• Outgoing email getting stuck in outbox and sent out multiple times.

  I have someone with 3 accounts on Outlook - one of them is giving trouble, in that when sending mail from it, it gets stuck in the outbox, saying it hasn't sent yet. When it finally does send off, he gets reports that about 10 copies have been received. The webmail associated with that account works fine, which means the hosting company (Godaddy) hasn't been helpful in solving this problem. It seems to be an Outlook issue. The other two email accounts (one of which is also a Godaddy email), work normally.

  I have a system to handle Applications online and a different system to send SMS/Email notifications to applicants on completion using web services. I can't guarantee the availability of the SMS/Email gateway. Option 1 After an application is complete, place a message on a JMS queue. A Message Driven bean receives the message and make a call for the web service, if it fails leave the message on the queue. I suspect (please correct if incorrect) that if the gate way is offline the continuosly try to send the message which might use up valuable resources. Can the above option be refined are are there any other messaging strategies that can be used?

  Is it possible to create a script/live distro that replaces some system32 files? To explain it a bit more in details: There is a company that has multiple computers (think in 100/1000's) and they all are missing the same system32 files since the company's software removed it. The systems are distributed all over the world and are managed by "normal" people who don't have any knowledge about computers. I want to create a usb stick that i can mail to all those people which contains a script that executes when you boot the usb. this script should replace the missing system32 files without any user input is this possible, and if so how could i manage this?

• Can Exchange be configured to populate a text/plain part of a meeting invite?

  I work in an environment where some people are using Microsoft Exchange and some people are not. The meeting invitations sent out by Exchange include a text/calendar attachment with the meeting information in iCal format. They also include an empty text/plain and an empty text/html part. Is there any way to configure Exchange such that it will populate either (or both!) the text/plain or the text/html part with a human-readable version of the meeting summary? This would help out people using mail clients that do not have native support for text/calendar attachments.

I have created an application that allows my clients to accept online donations and what I want to do is take % percent of that transaction off the top. The problems I have run into are: Authroize does not allow me to take on an additional fee that is paid out to my account I could run a report every month on all my clients transactions to determine what they owe but this is less than ideal All of the companies I looked at do not allow for aggregation where by all of the donation systems pay into my account then I remit payment to my clients Does anyone know of a company that allows for this or is my only option here going to be to setup my own Payment Gateway or is there a simpler solution?

  How do I go about debugging a networking problem where the office printer is shared off a Windows XP PC and is very slow from me to access? Print/changing any settings can take several minutes and applications often display "Not Responding" in this time. My machine is a Windows Vista PC.   Good afternoon; I don't know much about sendmail, so this may be fairly easy for those of you more experienced with it. We have an account, "[email protected]", sending reports to various groups. From time to time an undeliverable message will be sent back to "[email protected]". We'd like for those undeliverable messages to be rerouted, or bounced, from "[email protected]" to a group of our choosing. To carve out a scenario for clarity: [email protected] sends a report to [email protected] and [email protected] [email protected] has someone who's mail account no longer exists, triggering an undeliverable message being sent back to [email protected] Rather than having the undeliverable message sit in [email protected]'s Inbox, we'd like for it to be automatically rerouted/bounced to an admin group, [email protected] So I guess a "rule" of sorts. I've come across this solution: Sendmail : ignore local delivery But I don't know enough about sendmail to know if this is what will fit this situation. Any help is greatly appreciated.

  Please dont laugh . Over the past 15 years or so I've written all the software that runs my medical practice in D5. Last week when I went to DelphiArea to update a component I got attacked and my disk became unbootable/unrecoverable. I have my original D5p disk and all the components backed up but I want to migrate to W7. I don't care if my delphi apps look like vista/7, I just want to be able to install it and code on the machine again for maintenance purposes. 1) are there any tricks to install D5 so it works in W7? 2) is using a vm program really the only/best way? if so, which is suggested.   I only want to accpet email from two addresses, the rest I want to delete immediately, unseen. I know how to make fileers and I can whitelist those two addresses. If I make 3 filter, in this order; 1) from [email protected] move to inbox, never mark as spam 2) from [email protected] move to inbox, never mark as spam 3) from *@*.* delete immediately, never move to trash can I be guaranteed that that will do what I want? For instance, can I be sure that the filters are executed in that order? I dont want to lose amy mail from those two adresses.

  Hi, i came accross with a peculiar issue on my mobile site. some phones/gateways sends form post data as url encoded and a text such as "hey how are you?" in a form with method post stored in the db as "hey+how+are+you%3f" This is not the issue with many browsers but one single network from USA called Metro. I notice different phone models acting same way so i assue this is an issue with proxy/gateway. would simply putting _msg = HttpUtility.UrlDecode(_msg); solve my problem? any other suggestions? • HTTP, HTTPS and FTP is not working but SMTP and IMAP are working.

  Yesterday on a computer of a friend a strange thing happened. after booting the ports fo http, https and ftp are closed but e-mail is still working. in the control panel the windows firewall seems active even if he tries to deactivate it. I have a suspision that it is the faul of norton internet security 2010, we have tried to uninstall it, but the uninstallation did not work. when using the removal tool from symantec it just goes to 23% and then it crashes. the process ccSvcHst.exe is still running. How can I safely remove the rest of Norton Internet Security? Edit: Norton Internet Security 2010 is sucesfully removed, but still no connectivity...
