  • Login box not shown on Ubuntu

    Hi, I've installed Ubuntu 10.04 (64bit) as a guest OS in VirtualBox, using Windows7 Professional (64bit) as host. After Ubuntu install, I did installed Xfce4 (sudo apt-get install xfce4). Logged in using a Xfce session, and when I logged out, I couldn't see the login box anymore, only the regular gnome background from login screen. Then I restarted the virtual machine, and now I'm not able to see the login box anymore, only the gnome background. Does someone knows how to solve this? Thanks in advance

  • Windows 7 Enterprise MAK needs Reactivation?

    I have a VMware image that contains our "standard workstation" where I do a lot of testing. I used a Windows 7 Enterprise MAK key (from MSDN) for activation because the doc said that MAK keys don't have to be reactivated when the hardware changes. Activation was done with slmgr.vbs /ipk LICENSE-KEY slmgr.vbs /ato Now after some testing where the virtual hw was changed it says it "needs to activate because the hw has changed". What did I do wrong?

    I have used Disk2VHD to create a VHD of my old XP Laptop's boot drive. I would like to use it as an XP virtual machine on my new Win7 machine. I have tried doingit on a second XP machine and the VPC boots properly using that VHD but under Win7 I can't get it to act as the boot disk for the VPC. Any ideas? TIA J

    Hello, I have a Win 2008 R2 Data Center machine, and when I added the Hyper-V role, I got the following errors: 'Hypervisor' driver required by the Virtual Machine Management service is not installed or is disabled. Check your settings or try reinstalling the Hyper-V role. Hyper-V launch failed; Either VMX not present or not enabled in BIOS. ANy help would be appreciated as I am a n00b to the server world.   • Debian (wheezy) force cache to RAM

    I have Linux server running about 6 game servers. I have 3 GB total of RAM but I use only about 500 MB. Is there a way to cache one of my game servers (all the files - even not actually used maps etc. - about 1,5 GB) to RAM?   • How to setup Hadoop cluster so that it accepts mapreduce jobs from remote computers?

    There is a computer I use for Hadoop map/reduce testing. This computer runs 4 Linux virtual machines (using Oracle virtual box). Each of them has Cloudera with Hadoop (distribution c3u4) installed and serves as a node of Hadoop cluster. One of those 4 nodes is master node running namenode and jobtracker, others are slave nodes. Normally I use this cluster from local network for testing. However when I try to access it from another network I cannot send any jobs to it. The computer running Hadoop cluster has public IP and can be reached over internet for another services. For example I am able to get HDFS (namenode) administration site and map/reduce (jobtracker) administration site (on ports 50070 and 50030 respectively) from remote network. Also it is possible to use Hue. Ports 8020 and 8021 are both allowed. What is blocking my map/reduce job submits from reaching the cluster? Is there some setting that I must change first in order to be able to submit map/reduce jobs remotely?   • Hide usernames shown on Windows Server 2008 Remote Desktop login screen

    When I remote desktop to my Windows Server 2008 (a hosted virtual server) I see a login screen showing an icon for each user in the system. I can click on a user then enter a password and login. This is a terrible security oversight in my opinion as it gives anyone that might want to compromise my server a full list of valid usernames. Is there a way to revert to the old style of login screen requiring both username and password? Thanks

I want the machine to be snappy and responsive even when doing a reasonable amount of Development work.     I am trying to connect to a SonicWall VPN that requires the client to fetch IP addresses from the SonicWall DHCP server. I have tried to use Linux Openswan U2.6.22/K2.6.31-20-generic (netkey), and I connect fine, but the server fails the connection: IKE Responder: WAN GroupVPN policy does not allow static IP for Virtual Adapter. Anyone that can help me with this? I am at my wits end.

  • Cannot run a VM with more than three network interfaces with KVM

    I'm running KVM on top of Ubuntu 10.10 Server I can create VM's (Virtual Machine) and network interfaces fine but I cannot seem to add more than three network interfaces. As soon as I have a VM with four network interfaces it gets stuck on startup at the starting SeaBIOS page with this message: Starting SeaBIOS (version pre-0.6.1-20100702_143500-palmer) So far I've verified this with two VM's, a Ubuntu 10.10 desktop and a Vyatta router. The specific network hardware I assign to the VM's doesn't seem to matter. I'm trying to have one bridged interface and three private networks using Vyatta to route between them. Does anyone know why I can't run a VM with more than three network interfaces? Edit: Additionally the KVM thread responsible for the specific VM hangs using ~100% CPU (i.e. one core).     This problem already has been described mutliple times in different mailing lists, but no solution has yet been published. My original setup is as follows (but in the mean time i have a simpler one on Windows 7): Ubuntu server with apache 2.2 and python 2.7 virutal python environment created with virtualenv installed babel, genshi and trac in this order using pip in the virtual environment Trac seems to run fine with tracd, but when visiting it through apache, i get the following error in an official trac error page: AttributeError: Cannot find an implementation of the "IRequestHandler" interface named "WikiModule" The stacktrace looks like this: Traceback (most recent call last): File "/srv/trac/python-environment/lib/python2.5/site-packages/Trac-0.13dev_r10668-py2.5.egg/trac/web/main.py",line 473, in _dispatch_request dispatcher.dispatch(req) File "/srv/trac/python-environment/lib/python2.5/site-packages/Trac-0.13dev_r10668-py2.5.egg/trac/web/main.py", line 154, in dispatch chosen_handler = self.default_handler File "/srv/trac/python-environment/lib/python2.5/site-packages/Trac-0.13dev_r10668-py2.5.egg/trac/config.py", line 691, in __get__ self.section, self.name)) AttributeError: Cannot find an implementation of the "IRequestHandler" interface named "WikiModule". Please update the option trac.default_handler in trac.ini. I already tried a lot to get down to the root of the problem, for me it looks as if all nativ trac components refuse to load. When one explicitely imports these components in the wsgi handler, some of them start to work somehow. Since i suspected the virtual environment, i dropped it, and manually copied all dependencies (babel, genshi, trac, ..) to one directory, and added this directory to system.path in the wsgi handler. I get exactly the same error. Since this setup is now independend from the environment, one can easily try it out on any other machine (windows or linux) running apache 2 and python 2.7. On my Windwos 7 machine, i got exactly the same problem. I zipped together the whole bundle, one can download it from http://www.xterity.de/tmp/trac-installation.zip .   • Juniper not working on Windows 8.1

    I recently upgrade my laptop to windows 8.1 and now I can't run the Juniper terminal to connect to the company VPN. At the moment to click on the virtual machine it launche the terminal and afetr a few seconds a messages popup appears saying: juniper terminal services client has stopped working When I had windows 8 I was able to run Juniper without any problem. But in Windows 8.1 seems there are compatibilities issues. Any suggestion, solution or workaround? Thanks in advance

    To cut the long story short, I've setup a Wamp server with local virtual host for domain like sample.dev, now I've bind my static IP and port 80 to my Apache and asked the client to make some changes in his hosts file and add x.x.x.x sample.dev , I've also configured my httpd virtual host like this : <VirtualHost *:80> ServerAlias sample.dev DocumentRoot 'webroot_directory' </VirtualHost> Client can reach to my web server using the direct access by ip address, but when he tries using the sample domain looks like he gets in to some infinite loop. The firewall is off too. What would be the problem?! Thanks.

When I try to ping the server from client computer A I get the following: PING 74.208.192.xxx ==> Ping fails PING 74.208.192.xxx:80 ==> Ping succeeds! From client computer B, BOTH the pings fail. PING 74.208.192.xxx ==> Ping fails PING 74.208.192.xxx:80 ==> Ping fails with a message "Ping request could not find host 74.208.192.xxx:80" Both clients A and B are on the same subnet. The server is outside (a virtual server hosted by an ISP) I have an ASP.NET application in a virtual directory on the server. In IE or firefox, if I enter http://74.208.192.xxx/subdir/subdir/../Default.aspx, it works from both the clients! The server has default firewall settings but web server enabled (Port 80 is open). From client A (note the different 'reply to' address when the ping succeeds. My main problem is I have a web service (asmx) file and the web service client program is not able to access it from client B, but able to access it from client A. I am trying to find out why and thought this ping issue may shed some light. I can ping yahoo.com both the computers.
