  • File Not Found error launching Guest OS in a non-administrator user account

    Hi, I am running Fusion 2.0.6 (196839) on an iMac running 10.6.2 with 3 user accounts (1 Administrator). I have Fusion set up to share the Guest OS, and it's been working splendidly for nearly a year. Within the Guest OS (Windows XP PRO), there are also 3 user accounts (1 Administrator). Last night I went to back up my VM to an external drive, and to minimize the file size and transfer time, I deleted all Snapshots but the most-recent one. I then backed up the VM externally (28.23 GB). Today, one of my users tried to launch the Guest OS from within her user account, and received the following error message: "File Not Found: Windows XP Pro-000006.vmdk "This file is required to power on this virtual machine. If this file was moved, please provide its new location." My two choices are Cancel and Browse. When I browse, I can locate the Windows XP Pro-000006.vmdk file, which appears to be contained within the VM file (Windows XP Pro.vmwarevm). However, it still won't launch from a non-Admin user account. If I view the package contents of the VM file from the user account, the above file is present and appears to be created upon each launch of the Guest OS. If I go back to my Administrator account on the Mac and then launch Fusion, the Guest OS works perfectly for all 3 user accounts within XP Pro. I have tried to delete the Guest OS from Fusion's Library within the problem user account, then re-connect it to that Library, but the result is the same. The Guest OS data integrity is 100% -- but is accessible only from the OS X Administrator account. This problem only surfaced after deleting several older Snapshots. Again, the data is there, the Guest OS powers up normally in the Mac's Administrator account, but persistently returns the above error when attempting to power on from a non-Admin account on the Mac. I'm not sure how this is affecting the error, but when I look at Hard Disk Settings, the "unable-to-locate" file is the filename of the virtual HD. I don't want to make any changes to my (working) VM without any advice from the knowledgeable people on this forum. Any help will be greatly appreciated, thanks!

    How do you setup a single Apache2 config to host multiple HTTPS sites each on their own IP address? There will also be multiple HTTP sites on just a single IP address. I do not want to use Server Name Indication (SNI) as described here, and I'm only concerned with the important top-level Apache directives. That is, I just need to know the skeleton of how my config should look. The basic setup looks like this: Hosted on 1.1.1.1:80 (HTTP) - example.com - example.net - example.org Hosted on 2.2.2.2:443 (HTTPS) - secure.com Hosted on 3.3.3.3:443 (HTTPS) - secure.net Hosted on 4.4.4.4:443 (HTTPS) - secure.org And here are the important config directives I have so far, which is the closest I've come to a working iteration, but still no dice. I know I'm close, just need a little push in the right direction.   • cPanel WHM virtualhost sample

    Hi, Could anyone possible post a virtual host sample from a working httpd server, if possible with the most features enabled (like suPHP, suExec, php directives such as engine on off and others) ? The reason is that i wanted to see how it is formarted, and built per vhost... it's been a long time i dont use cPanel nor have it available so i can't really get it, i've been googling for it but havent found it at all. In attempting to troubleshoot, I used Ctrl-Alt-F1 to check out the first virtual terminal.     I have SQL Server 2008 Express running on Hyper-V based virtual machine with two vCPU-s. I've just been reading up on SQL Server 2012 Express and noticed that it's CPU is "Limited to lesser of 1 Socket or 4 cores" (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc645993(v=SQL.110).aspx) My question is how do the SQL Server 2012 limits on CPUs/Cores translate into vCPU-s? Are they "processors" or are they "cores"?

    Hey, I have obtained an SSL certificate by Thawte for domain.com Now my infrastructure changed due to heavy load I have mx.domain.com as SMTP relay storage.domain.com as Mail-Storage and domain.com pointing at Web-Server Every server is hosted on another dedicated/virtual server with individual IP. I do not want to put the Web-Server on the Mail-Storage for security reasons but I do want to use my SSL-Certificate for the Mail-Storage(POP3S/IMAPS). Is that possible or how do I solve that issue?

  • Is there Powershell way to re-apply a restored password for the IIS IUSR account?

    On one of our IIS web servers the IUSR account suddenly expired or got corrupted, I recovered the password from the IIS metabase (using Cscript adsutil.vbs get w3svc\anonymoususerpass after switching IsSecureProperty = False). I then reset the password accordingly. Now I have to re-key that password on the Directory Security tab of all virtual directories (for the anonymous account) of all web sites on that server. Is there a way to automate this using Powershell? (I have searched so far in vain)

I would like to use deduplication feature in WSS (Single Instance Storage) for hosting data for our external FTP server.The idea is to use NFS server on WSS as datastore for Linux FTP server located in DMZ and CIFS services for servers in LAN. Using Celerra fileserver I was able to create multiple instances of fileservers with multiple virtual interfaces and separate filesystems so all data and networks would be separated. Would it be possible to do something similiar on WSS?

    I am trying to get a Antivirus server for my Virtual Private Server that has Windows Server 2008 R2 x64 1.5 GB RAM and 40 GB HD. I see people have suggested for NOD32 or Kaspersky but they are not offering Internet security for one server in business edition (it starts with at least 5 PC) and they says I can't install home edition on my VPS as this is for business purpose. Is there any good antivirus/internet security program that I can buy for my single VPS? Any suggestion will help me. Thanks

    I installed and configured Apache Mobile Filter module for Apache to redirect users to mobile version of our website, depending on their user agents. I configured the module to use WURFL. But as soon as I start Apache it hogs a large amount of memory (without any in-coming web requests): Resident Memory: 300 to 400 MB Virtual Memory: 300 to 650 MB Without this module, Apache was consuming much lesser memory (4 to 10 MB). What could be the reason here?

(64K, 128K etc) enabled "adaptive read ahead, write-back" on PERC 6i 90% VMs on server are Windows (2008, 2003, Vista etc, SQL 2005 etc) i have read that smaller stipes are good for writes and larger for reads. Since this is virtual env, not sure whats good.

    I would like my TrueCrypt virtual drive to act as a newly inserted USB drive or CD/DVD by executing commands in the partition's autorun.inf file.     With URxvt and xterm it is possible to use a virtual terminal supporting 256 colors instead of only eight. Since my Intel GMA graphics card is well-supported by the KMS framebuffer driver, I am exclusively working on the TTY. Unfortunately it only supports eight colors although with MPlayer (-vo fbdev/fbdev2) and other framebuffer tools far more can be addressed. Is there a way to tell the TTY to use more than eight colors?

  • xp mode in Windows 7 - capture mouse?

    I'm running Windows 7 but it doesn't quite work right with Starcraft. (Colors are messed up). So I installed Windows XP Mode and I can get it to play starcraft but it changes the resolution to 640x480 and it does not stretch - so it's running in a tiny window in the middle of my screen. (If I resize the VM then the screen either goes blank, or it doesn't resize the contents) Also the mouse isn't captured - the mouse can go inside/outside the virtual pc easily, and it should get stuck on the edges.

  • Do I dare clicking Delete Volume instead of Delete Partition?

    I have a VMWare machine with one VM. That VM has a virtual disk which in windows is configured with two partitions and then a lot of slack space, as illustrated here: http://piclair.com/q8g5s What I want to do is delete the partition of 639 GB. However, since it's a dynamic disk, the right menu item says "Delete Volume" instead of "Delete Partition" (when I right click the 639GB space). My question is weather I dare to use "Delete Volume". I have read doing stuff like this on a dynamic volume can cause other partitions/volumes to go corrupt.
